Honestly, that will be one of the best things about the Cubs winning. No more goats, Bartman, 1945, 1908, etc. That BS was played out a long time ago. Glad it’s finally put to rest.

    • CanadaBear

One of the SB’s the Raiders won back in the day, TV was set up in the locker room and just before the players came around the corner to the room somebody yelled plain as day, “We kicked the fucking shit out of those cocksuckers”.

      • Scharfinator

There’s another clip from a while ago… I think the Chiefs? They just blatantly show football player dick in the background – it’s pretty fucking funny.

I was watching the Raiders SB at my folks house. My dad and I burst out laughing and my mom made us both feel about 10 years old with a withering look.

    Nice win.

Do you guys know they intentionally walk the best hitters in baseball?!

        nope

Did you know that some QBs intentionally don’t throw to receivers covered by the best CBs in football?

Did you know that teams will intentionally punt out of bounds or short when facing the best returners in football?

Did you know that teams go into prevent D at the end of games?

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Lol. And to think that all this time, nobody realized it was to make games more exciting.

        • AlbertInTucson

I prefer the Bears “Prevent Offense” we saw Monday night.

Take the ball with about 6 minutes left and give it back on the opponent on their 1 with 4 seconds left.

          That is the real “Prevent”.

      • MB30SD

not at ALL the same thing. and disagree with the QB one. if the dude is open, he’ll get the ball.

I was trying to think of an analagous situation in football and I couldn’t come up with one… a reasonable one at least. smhayb

The not kicking to Hester is a good one.

          • MB30SD

yes, similar, but you still have to kick it and as we saw in our game or the giants/eagles game, it’s not totally the same.

        • Huge Bears Penis

what about an intentional safety or intentionally letting the other team score?

Belichick order a safety -sorry could not find video

          • Or how about teams kneeling like pussies in victory formation, or defenses just allowing them to kneel- waiving the white flag!?

            Well, unless you’re Coach Schiano

            http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000104906/No-victory-formation-for-Schiano

          • Huge Bears Penis

I hate kneel downs, especially going into halftime.

          • MB30SD

yeah, those two were the first ones I thought of, but that’s more about timing right? Let’s give them the two so we can get the ball back and try to score… and the extra 2 won’t stop us from winning if we get a TD so why not.

Not that same thing as intentionally not playing the game you’re all playing because that person is really good and could score.

There’s nothing really 100% analogous in football. I know it’s part of the game, and I know it’s normal and accepted… I’m just saying as a baseball outside it looks really shitty and seems totally pussy. I’d be pissed if I was the stud not getting a chance to go yard for my team at every bat like erraone else. It’s successism I tell you!!

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

It was part of the script?

    • AlbertInTucson

      Pick your poison.

They wanted to set up the DP or a force at third but walked Rizzo to get to the hottest hitter in the series.

      • MB30SD

I know. I HATE that rule. you should never be allowed to just not pitch to certain guys. total bullshit.

        • willbest

          How could you enforce it?

          • MB30SD

            easy dude, no intentional walking.

          • willbest

But you can intentionally walk somebody without stepping off to the side. You can hit the batter for example.

          • MB30SD

sure, can’t rule all that shit out… but having the catcher stand up and walk a few steps to the side is bullshit. I don’t mind if you’re trying to walk a guy, and at least he has the opty to step into it and smack it… or have the catcher drop a way outside ball and have someone come in.

it’s the intentional way it’s done that sticks in my craw I guess.

On that note, I always wondered why batters don’t wait and then when he lobs it to the catcher standing there and then jump over and try to smash it. I would just as a fuck you.

          • Huge Bears Penis

Batters must remain in the box so can not cross over home plate. This situation can always happen.

There were a couple pitches last night that were a little close and was surprised the batter did not at least think of swinging.

I’m in my 60’s and been a Cubs fan forever. All I can say is SWEET! I don’t care about hockey enough to get that excited about the Blackhawks championships, I hate basketball, I like the Sox but nothing like the Cubs and of course The Beloved. Up until last night the Bears won when I was not quite a teenager and again in 86, That’s it for championships in my lifetime, until now. Love it!

    • Huge Bears Penis

you live in Canada… I don’t think it is allowed not to care about hockey.

      • CanadaBear

I don’t freely admit that up here! I like it and will watch it but it just doesn’t move me like baseball and pro football. I didn’t move to Canada until I was in my late 40’s. Even though I’m a Canadian citizen (dual) all my Canadian friends refer to me as a Yankee, and they blame me for everything they don’t like about the States. Gotta love your friends!

        • Huge Bears Penis

When you were applying for Canadian citizenship, did you have to take a class? Maybe forced to watch a video on how to be Canadian?

          • CanadaBear

Actually you have to take a written test. Mostly civics and history. I was going to study for it when I read that if you were 55 or older you didn’t have to take the test. I was and I stopped reading immediately!

          • AlbertInTucson

Do you have to learn the French Version of “OH CANADA”.

When you translate that, it’s almost two different anthems.

          • CanadaBear

It was funny at the citizenship ceremony the judge had to perform it in both languages and we were supposed to repeat after her. Being a good Alberta girl, the judge’s French was non-existent and she mumbled through it. So did all the non-French speakers. My wife (from Montreal) thought it was hilarious.

But he grew up in a farm, and was part polish too. Don’t know if that cancels out the French part, but even he admitted Quebecois are wilder than than typical Canadians.

Well done Cubbies. Foreshadowing a Superbowl no doubt.

How does a White Sox fan view all this?

    • CanadaBear

They won in ’05 so they’re good (spoken like a Cubs fan). It’s like anything else, the dickhead Sox fans will be put out and act like jagoffs. Most will be semi-happy for their friends that are Cubs fans.

    • Goin to Hell with Pernell (GP)

My ex, the kids mother, has a live in boyfriend now and hardcore Sox fan. He seems kind of a dick.

Anyhow, he didn’t watch the Series. Fuck that guy.

      • CanadaBear

I never got that Sox/Cubs rivalry. I was always happy for Sox fans when they won. I guess it helps if some of your friends growing up are Sox fans.

        • Goin to Hell with Pernell (GP)

I bought my kids Cubs hats last week and last night I took them to Harry Carey’s in the burbs and they had a nice dinner and watched the first two innings before taking them home. They liked that.

I’ve been divorced from their mom for a decade now. The decade has not been kind to her. She’s put on weight and looks pretty shit. So she has glommed onto the little turd, which is fine and all, but all he ever wants to do is go to Sox games. That’s all he ever takes the kids to: Sox games. No Hawks, no other activities. Sox games. he has a Sox license plate and is generally Sox guy.

I grew up on the Southside and I have been Cubs fan since WGN and Brickhouse days. I took a ton of shit as a kid for being a Cubs fan. I wore a Cubs shirt to a restaurant down in Tinley Park and the waiter said to me, this was a couple years ago, he said – somewhat jokingly but kind of in a dick way – “we don’t serve Cubs fans here.” I think he expected me to take it. I got up and said “fuck you” and walked out of the place. I hate that crosstown crap.

I was on the Metra one night after a crosstown and a Cubs fan and Sox fan were sitting on the train upper deck across from each other, drunk as fuck, jawing at each other. They try and take swings at each other ACROSS the top of the car, one guy steps on the luggage rack thing and tries to cross the top of the car, he slips and comes crashing down in the aisle. I laughed my ass off, even though I think the asswipe broke his ankle. So stupid.

So if southsider doesn’t like this, then fuck southsider. I put up with a lot of shit watching WGN as a kid.

          • CanadaBear

Drunks, whatta ya gonna do? Not growing up in the city helps with my Pollyanna ‘tude towards the Sox. I think it’s like anything, if someone’s an asshole it doesn’t make any difference what you’re talking about they will still be assholes.

I was in the Centerfield bleachers with Harry the first time he did a game from there.

Lest anyone forget, that happened at Comiskey Park.

          • CanadaBear

My brother-in-law and I were at Comiskey once when Harry was in the bleachers with us. He was just a few rows away. They brought up a cooler about the size of a coffin and people around Harry were joining in. Unfortunately we were too far away for that. They refilled it about halfway through the game. I saw Harry drink a ton that game. Only an alcoholic could drink like that and still function like there was nothing wrong.

          • AlbertInTucson

For sure. Harry killed a LOT of brain cells long before his stroke.

It’s seriously retarded for the amount of trolling and shit talking that goes on when these two teams have virtually no impact on each other.

As a die hard Cubs fan, I still celebrated the Sox win in 05. Ain’t got the time to waste to be an asshole and negative about that to others happiness.

I may be biased, but I have a hard time actually seeing other Cubs fans being a jerk or ass to Whie Sox fans as bad as it is on the flip side. You can just feel the negative energy ooze off of Sox fans much more than Cubs fans.

          • Think it has to do a bit with class warfare.

Cub fans are seen as aristocratic pricks
Sox fans are seen as glock carrying plebes.

      • SC Dave

Don’t know if you saw the snippet I posted from that Trib article, but he may do exactly that. To repeat the Trib stuff I posted:

        ===
Epstein, then the Red Sox’s general manager, said fans have thanked him almost every day since 2004 for “what it meant to their family” and those who didn’t live long enough to see it happen.

“That really resonated,” he said last year. “More than anything else, that feeling influenced my decision to come to Chicago, because that was the one place in the world where you could experience something that meaningful again and play a small part in contributing to something that meaningful.”
        ===

What an unimaginably great drug. If Theo goes for it in Cleveland, I would not be surprised one iota.

We can evaluate the 2015 draft pretty well Jeff
    #1 – mega bust
#2 – talent, but brittle (aka not a stud)
    #3 – bust
    #4 – JAG at best
    #5 – serviceable starter
    #6 – Gone

    • willbest

In fact, his 2015 was rather a shit year from an FA perspective too

      Nanny – broken
      Rolle – broken
      Royal – broken
      Ducasse – awful
      McDonald – scandal
      Montgomery – broken
      Porter – serviceable starter
      Acho – solid role player

      • Johnnywad

Horse shit. McPhee, Royal, Porter and Acho is a really good FA year when you consider the roster at the time. No mega contract, but good to better than good starters. Current injuries don’t mean the decision was bad. The two are exclusive unless you pay an oft injured vet a huge sum. Pace’s first two FA seasons have been very strong.

        • willbest

By that logic the Jared Allen signing was a good one.

          • McPhee is effective when in.

            Allen was NOT (and miscast)

          • willbest

Allen would have been fine except he spent 3-4 weeks down with pneumonia and getting back up to weight. At which point every player had quit. Of course with the 2015 transition to the 3-4, yeah he didn’t belong here. But you can’t hold pneumonia against him.

          • willbest

            Just looked this up

            2014 Allen – 5.5 sacks, 4 PDs, 2 FF, 2 FR, 37 tckls, 18 assist in 15 games
            2015 McPhee – 6 sacks, 3 PDs, 1 INT, 1 FF, 42 tckls, 11 assists in 14 games

So pretty much the same effectiveness. Although we paid Allen a lot more.

          • McPhee was playing with a bum knee or whatever for half those games and still made more of an impact, and costed less.

Unless McPhee gets hurt again, NO ONE is going to argue that Old Mullet man deal is comparable to Mcphee.

          • willbest

And Allen lost 25 pounds in 10 days. Don’t pretend McPhee has an injury excuse and Allen doesn’t.

          • So you are arguing that the Allen signing is equal to or better than the McPhee signing, is that what you’re trying to argue?

Allen played a lil better once he regained, but he still wasn’t as good as Mcphee on a bum knee.

McPhee also blocked a kick to hand us a win, which you didn’t mention in the stats.

          • willbest

My point is they are all bad contracts because I am viewing all of them with hindsight. I was told I can’t do that that the contract needs to be judged at the time of signing. To which the answer is they are all good signings. That doesn’t sit well so the new split the baby appears to be Allen’s contract was bad because he played average, and McPhee/Royal get a pass until they are no longer bears.

Now a bet that results in a bad outcome is objectively bad. The Bears are worse off for the loss. That doesn’t make the bet itself bad, for that you would need to know the risk/reward.

          • Johnnywad

Listen here Mr. Counseler, you are free to view them in whatever tense you like. Royal and McPhee are at done yet and they are not old as balls. To say they “were” bad contracts because they are currently injured, doesn’t wash. They’re not done yet. And their performance has met their contract value to date when healthy. They may go in to play many more games and kick more ass.

With regard to the signings and injury status, every player in the league is subject to injury and thereby a risk. But there is a definite distinction between, say a Sam Bradford/Kevin White type, whose time in the league is largely spent on IR to date, and players like Eddie Royal and Pernell McPhee who have spent most of their time on the field. Neither of those two players had exhibited any real history of injury, so to hang their injuries around Pace’s neck and say he blew it, is wrong. He made good decisions leading to the signings. Now, for example, if he were to offer a player like Kevin White an extension given his history, that’s a bad decision/bet. Kevin White may go on to have ten great seasons and be a five time Pro Bowler. But that doesn’t mean it was a good bet. It was a long shot, and Pace got very lucky in that scenario.

          • CanadaBear

            But that fuckin’ awareness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • Johnnywad

No he wasn’t. He had nothing left and had already showed that. No team even wanted him. His signing is nothing at all like the others. I’m missing your point.

          • willbest

Now you are just trolling. The year before he became a bear he had 11.5 sacks, 33 tackles, 19 assists, 6 passes defensed, and 2 forced fumbles. Oh and he hadn’t missed a game in 6 years. He was cut by Minny because he was 31 and they didn’t want (or couldn’t afford) to pay him $14.5 million

          • Johnnywad

I’m not. But whatever. Nobody wanted the guy. He took forever to sign a deal.

Aside from that, I am missing your connection between Pace’s Free Agents and Allen according to my logic.

          • willbest

We signed him on Mar 26th hardly forever. And it was an unusual class where Demarcus Ware and Julius Peppers were both available. He was signed about 10 days after those two were signed.

Nanny, Allen, and Royal were all signed and paid based on their performance, and all of them underperformed due to injuries.

          • Johnnywad

No. Allen underperformed. McPhee and Royal are still here. And have been pretty good when healthy. They can still play well. They have time. BECAUSE they have injuries doesn’t mean the decision was bad. They had proven history otherwise.

It reminds me of a friend of mine that claims any bet you lose is a bad one. That simply isn’t correct. If the data suggests you’re taking a good risk, and the value is there, it’s a good bet. McPhee and Royal were good bets. Allen’s age alone suggested he was possibly a bad bet. The two scenarios are entirely different. We’re just going to disagree.

        • Yeah, neither McPhee or Royal had inj histories, if I remember correctly.

          • willbest

It bears mentioning the reason McPhee is currently broken has everything to do with Pace’s management of the roster last year. Unless you want to argue that he doesn’t control if and when a player goes to IR.

          • Johnnywad

Royal averaged 14 games a season before becoming a Bear. Not too shabby for a wide receiver. McPhee averaged 15 games a season before becoming a Bear. He played on 14 last year. But that was stupid. So both players were proven as durable and talented and came with a fair price tag. Good pick ups in my book.

Actually #3 is an unknown. Too early to label bust, but he is tending that direction.

      • willbest

I guess he will make a cheap serviceable backup for the rest of his rookie contract. But he isn’t going to break into the front 3, unless they kick Long out to tackle again.

    • So one injury has made Goldman brittle? And it’s way too early to say White is a bust.

Right now it’s a 2-man draft, with Goldman and Amos. Let’s see if White can become something. 3 starters from a draft is solid.

      • willbest

White is a bust because he has played 3 NFL games in 2 years, and has brittle bones.

Goldman has 2 ankle injuries within a 9 month period.

        • AlbertInTucson

Yeah, I thought Goldman missed games LAST season, too.

    • Realistically, 2 starters and 1 stud is the aim in any draft.

We got two starters in Goldman and Amos.

White was supposed to be our stud, though that looks really shaky right about now.

Getting a starting S that doesn’t leave players wide open, take wrong angle, get dragged 5 yards, or shoulder popped every quarter is a BIG coup by me.

He’s a SS. Not many of them are ballhawks. Just need to pair him with a Berry type (who might become an FA next year).

Goldman was solid when in, with the possibility of becoming special.

That’s not shabby, in my book.

      • willbest

I am licking my chops on Berry. He is playing on the tag this year too. Its unlikely he gets tagged again.

        • No way Berry gets tagged again, and from what I hear, he’s a bit pissed the Chiefs didn’t re-sign him, esp after all he went through with the cancer.

He would be perfect for us – but no doubt he’ll cost an arm and leg.

Its not a clear cut situation. For starters, the Brits still pretend that the ultimate authority on everything comes from Lizzy II, and that they are just borrowed from her, or agreed to by her. The Prime Minister was using the Crown’s prerogative for skipping Parliament, and as I am not a scholar of English law, I don’t know how sweeping that power is, but its not brightly spelled out the way something like the EC is.

The reason she was doing this in the first place was to a) speed up the process; and b) avoid giving the Remains the ability to sabotage every aspect of leaving.

  • 100%. Pace seems to have draft approach. Take shots on athletes with
high ceilings in round one and then sturdy, sturdy, sturdy after that. – Jeff

Said this a while ago, and releayed from Hub who wrote a good article on it like in April.

    Most GMs want

    “Athletes” (SPAQRQ, etc)
    “Players”

Hub was the first to point out that Pace might be a hybrid.

Gamble on the insane athlete with major upside in the first.

The rest, BPA. (Whitehair is a classic example. Everyone was screaming “Dline!” Yonny almost thru his Tradewind at the TV when we got Whitehair)

Don’t know if this applies to QBs, but worth considering in next year’s draft.

    • MB30SD

      • Have to wait in see. I like seeing how the top QBs perform in must win games or bowl games.

Anyone can throw for 500 yds while sniffing panties.

It’s a lil different when playing in a hostile must win environment.

Also, always surprise prospects emerge. Around this time last year, Wentz wasn’t even ranked I don’t think.

Kiper mentioned some QB I never even heard of the other night.

        Have to wait and see.

Also, it really looks like we’re going to be drafting #3 at best, most likely 5-6.

Moving up might be too prohibitive, in which case, we might have to hope for a Carr at the top of the 2nd.

            Yes, I did.

My mind is full of that stuff.

            hooker – Online Etymology Dictionary
            http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=hooker
Meaning “prostitute” (by 1845) often is traced to the disreputable morals of the Army of the Potomac (American Civil War) under the tenure of Gen. “Fighting Joe” Hooker (early 1863), and the word might have been popularized by this association at that time (though evidence is wanting)

    • I was JUST thinking about this.

I mean, I don’t think I’ve EVER seen such a mismanaged game ON ANY LEVEL, from my little league days, to watching World Series.

Maddon Homered into that championship big time.

      • Goin to Hell with Pernell (GP)

If Bass doesn’t BARELY make that solo shot, the game is tied again due to Chapman being gassed out. It was a crazy ass game.

        • Anyone can go back and read in real time what me, Will and anyone with half a brain thought (Data on Twitter for instance).

Like, WHY pull Hendricks when he was looking like a stone cold killa?
WHY put in Lester with guys on base when he said he wouldnt?
WHY did he put Chapman in the night b4, esp in that last inning? (And Smoltz at that time said those innings do wear a pitcher out, esp one that relies on heat)

Some even question leaving Chapman in after it was obvious he didn’t have it.

The players bailed out Maddon BIG TIME.

Supposedly, when the rain delay happened, they met in the locker room and said, “fuck this. We’re not losing”

That had nothing to do with Maddon.

          • Goin to Hell with Pernell (GP)

The pitch count with Chapman and pulling Hendricks were the offenses that will get a lot of scrutiny. Lester said, right as the reporter got to him after the game, he said he hopes he never has to go in with men on base in relief ever again. That it freaked him out badly. And you could see, once he got his own inning, he stablized and righted his ship. But getting inherited runners freaked him out badly and luckily Bass was there for him to keep that inning in tact.

When Bass took a concussion shot to the mask, I was sure the Billy Goat had come to Cleveland. That was very nearly a cursed inning. Cleveland had the game in their hand at that point and could not close it out.

          • Yeah, like LITERALLY the only one of the 3 catcher he carried that couldn’t get to that infield hit was Ross (esp cold). Then he throws it wide to first, and it’s like, WTF the goat!

But then Ross hits that homer and reshifts momentum.

It’s like for every fuck up Maddon did, the player would play harder.

          • Cormonster

Where does the Bass nickname come from? Hadn’t hear that before.

    • willbest

Maddon wasn’t the only one making multiple mistakes though. Baez had 3. And even Maddon rallied in the 10th. If he didn’t pinch run for Kyle, he would be on first (or worse thrown out has he lumbered back there), and the Indians would have never intentionally walked Rizzo and who knows how it turns out at that point. And Edwards pitched 2 strong outs and got the hook when he got out of hand and Montegormy didn’t let the moment get to him.

      • I think most of those decisions you mentioned were no brainers though.
Of course you pinch run for slow ass in that moment. And of course you pull the 12 year old who looks nervous in that situation.

But in some ways, this is as bad as Lovie vs Colts, except the players bailed Maddon out.

It would’ve been like Hester running another one back, and maybe the D getting a pick 6 to win that SB in spite of horrendous in game decisions.

That’s the way I see it, and judging from many “experts” and die hards, I’m not alone.

        • willbest

Letting Hendricks finish his innning and Lester finish his seemed like no brainers too, but in any case he stopped shooting himself in the foot (and the team with him). And getting Kyle out of there made sense, but I am not familiar enough with the Cubs bullpen or the batters they were facing in the 10th to make those decisions. And they ended up being the right ones.

          • BillW

I have to go back to check but I think he didn’t let Lester finish that inning because there was a man on. His completely inability to throw to a base is weird but had to be accounted for.

          • willbest

Its fucked up for somebody you are paying $25 million to work once every 6 days for half a year.

          • They ended up being the right ones in that sense that they won (barely) but I attribute that more to the batters coming through.

This game could’ve easily ended with the Cubs cruising to a 7-2 win in 9 innings if not for Maddon mismanaging.

In some ways, this game 7 reminds me of another epic chicago victory.

            The Bears-Cards comeback.

No one is ever gonna say, “Wow. Lovie coached his ass off for that one!””

    • burntorangenavyblue

Except they will never look back thinking that because you also have to give them credit to the part where they DID earn it.

Some people may talk about some of the questionable gaffes, but in the grand scheme of things, they WON.

The historical gaffes are only obsessed about if a LOSS occurred. In this instance, the players just played their hearts out to get the win.

    • BillW

The only two decisions (and they were huge) that I questioned was Chapman at all in game 6 (with such a big lead) and pulling Hendricks so early.

In football terms, he was playing not to lose, and we all know how often that backfires.

      • pulling both Hendricks and Lester when he should have let them finish the inning. They were both one out away and had a man on 1st who got there without them looking bad (questionable walk call and infield single). They were both rolling and seemed to have plenty left to finish that inning.

Then you’re bringing Lester and Chapman both in for fresh innings, where they are more comfortable and pitch much better.

        • BillW

This is a football board so maybe I shouldn’t mention this here – but speaking of that missed walk call –
I’d sure like to see the introduction of electronic called balls / strikes. I’ve never been a fan of anything in sports that includes the concept “the mistakes even themselves out”. Because it’s usually the situation they occur and not the number of them that matters.

          • Robo umps calling balls and strikes should 100% be a thing. Just have umps for safe/out calls (reviewable), balks, etc. The things you need a person for.

          • The stats say that umps get the call wrong around 15% of the time (http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/1/27/5341676/how-well-do-umpires-call-balls-and-strikes).

It’s absurd that baseball is ok with that when they have the easy ability to make that 100%.

          • BillW

Glad to see another stat-head agree with me. My older son was getting sick of hearing me talk about this through the playoffs. I found it telling that Fox rarely even showed the pitch track thing. I suspect that was part of the contract – because if the 15% held up in the WS, it would be embarrassing at best for MLB.

          • Strike zone was everywhere last night. Even my step dad who never watches baseball asked, “Did the strikezone change?”

Seems like tech can solve that easily, as well as foul ball calls.

          • AlbertInTucson

            Couldn’t agree more.

This “Strike zone based upon who is behind the plate that game” is utter BS.

    • CanadaBear

I didn’t have a big issue with game 6 because when he brought him in it was a crucial time in the game. He definitely fucked up not having somebody warming up the instant Rizzo hit that bomb. Last night I thought he pulled Hendricks too early, pulled Lester too early and left Chapman in too long but I watched a lot of games this year and overall Maddon was great. Not to mention he had a plan to rest people and it worked. No doubt he over managed that last game (Baez bunting, smfh).

          • MB30SD

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

What’s the difference between Jewish and Jew?

          • MB30SD

like the diff between calling a black guy a black guy and the n-word

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Black or blackish?

          • MB30SD

            both?

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

            Lol

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

I have such a dark skin tone that one could say I’m blackish. No?

          • MB30SD

um, not in the pics I’ve seen dude.

But, I always joke around that I’m African… from the waist down.

Which is true, since all of me is african.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Haha. When I was a kid hitting the beach, I was very blackish.

          • MB30SD

            ahhhh… durban I assume. hahaha

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

I almost drowned in Cape Town once. Killer undercurrent. The harder I tried reaching the shore, the further out I got.

          • MB30SD

if the current don’t getcha the fucking freezing water and/or GWS will!

I’ve surfed at Jeffries and cape st. francis three times, but never in CT. Too sharky… it’s all too sharky, not surfing when I go home again. I’m way too puss.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Lifeguards saved my butt. Man was I happy to see them pull me into their row boat.

          • MB30SD

            smh

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

I was spent by the time they reached me. I had to have been 8 or 9.

          • MB30SD

            pussy hahahahaha

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yeah man, my Mom made me wear those arm floaties after that. Hahaha

          • AlbertInTucson

Those arm floaties are despised by lifeguards and firefighters.

They would like to see them banned.

          • Really? Never knew that. Why?

I know during WW2 a lot of sailors jumping off burning ships would snap their necks cuz of the water rushing up their helmets as they fell into the ocean.

And the ones who survived had to fight off sharks!

          • AlbertInTucson

They are not recognized as a proper safety flotation device.

We do a drive every summer to get parent to sign their kids up for swim lessons and the firefighters and lifeguards say those things are not safe for kids.

Arizona is one of the leading states for kids drowning.

Lots of swimming pools out here.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Why firefighter? I can understand the lifegaurds.

          • AlbertInTucson

There’s nothing they hate more than having to respond to a child drowning call.

          • Sauron’s right eyeball

Surfings for pussies. Never surfed a day in my life. Hahaha

          • MB30SD

hahahaha, try it, promise you won’t say that after. Sports have always come pretty easily for me, but man, surfing is the hardest thing you’ll ever do.

    • willbest

Chris Pratt, Evans, Pine, Helmsworth … apparently it helps to be a Chris if you want to make it in big budget Hollywood movies these days.

      • MB30SD

hemsworth is dreamy. If I was that dude, no 23-36 year old 9+s would be safe. NONE!

        • willbest

Why wouldn’t they be safe? You a choker? raw dogging with syphilis?

You want to see a travesty of a man not living it up to his full sexual potential? Kris Bryant’s fiancee

          http://pbs.twimg.com/media/CDN5WCdVIAA9DQ8.jpg

She got her hooks in him back when they were 16. so Kudos for her and hell if it keeps him winning NL MVPs I won’t complain as a fan. But as a man, I feel its Derek Jeter responsibility to write a how-to book for pro-athletes.

          • MB30SD

            all of the above?

Yikes! duuuuuuuuuude! poor fool. How old is he 24? He’s going to look back when he’s writing her that triple digit million check and weep. On the otherhand, 6s work a LOT harder… right butch (I wouldn’t know…ok, maybe once or thrice. hee hee)?!

            Ditto for fucking federer: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/11/17/1416239802460_Image_galleryImage_Swiss_tennis_player_Roger.JPG

            Yeesh

          • CanadaBear

Not that I have any idea because I don’t follow it but the little I know, Jeter’s reign will be hard to top as far as top shelf women forever. Then he retired and married the last one.

Have to say I do wonder how much longform sportswriting is only consumed by other sports writers.

The ratings the HBO show of erstwhile writer / ESPN contributor, Bill Simmons, aren’t even good enough to be described as “terrible”.

    • Mormon Taco Ninja (GP)

I thought Any Given Wednesday would be good. It’s not.

      • CanadaBear

Last night’s show sucked ass. I’ve seen a few of them and if the guests are good the show is. Otherwise, not so much. He had Gretzky and Bill Burr on together and it was fantastic. Bill Burr was as funny as you would expect (huge hockey fan) and The Great One was laughing his ass off and telling funny stories.

This might end up being crappy but it might be good. Interesting to all of us if it is good.

  • Huge Bears Penis

I am watching the Thursday night game, and the announcers just said they have a problem reading the numbers on TB players because of the color rush designs. I hope the NFL is spending the millions Nike gave them to do this to the uniforms on something good, like cocaine and hookers.

    • CanadaBear

I don’t get this at all. I get throwback jerseys for merch but nobody is buying the pants. No matter what uni it’s just too much of one color.

      • Huge Bears Penis

Thursday night games are usually hard to watch to begin with, so might as well make the uniforms visually unappealing also.

    • TB unis look like digital clocks

  • Gabriel is fast.

That’s what we need. A 4.28 speedster returning and pitching in on O.

    Browns-Ravens next Thursday.

Who in the NFL scheduling office thought that would be a good game to feature in week 10?

    Whomever it was, you’re fired.

    • willbest

Keep in mind that ESPN, NBC, NFLN, have to fight with Fox and CBS. They can’t just poach all the best games. And the NFL does have a legitimate interest in putting every team in a national game once or twice a year just to provide everybody with an opportunity to see them. Plus, you never really know who is going to have a Cinderella season. The Panthers are 2-5 while the Raiders are 6-2

      • AlbertInTucson

Who didnt know the Browns would suck by week 10?

        • willbest

Well they make the schedule in like July.

          • beninnorcal

I think you missed Al’s joke. The Brown’s suck regardless of what week it is.

          • AlbertInTucson

July. Everybody knew the Browns were, at best, a 4-5 win team in July.

  • MB30SD

What?!? I can get my brother one too!!??

Tell me why I love this commercial so much: https://ispot.tv/a/AKTb

  • AlbertInTucson

Damn. Got 14 points out of Ryan tonight which is good for our league, but 6 more passing yards would have given me another point.

And in our league, 1 point can often make a difference.
