On this NFL season’s first day,
To JJ Watt, I would like to say,
At home would be a better place to stay,
Then failing against them Bears to make the play..
    Bear down

Trouble sleeping tonight, and a new thread. Hopefully back to sleep.

    • 505Bears

I’ve been up since 6 est

  • Irish Sweetness

Dowell Loggains is the man on view tonight for me. We can run the ball with Howard. We know this. Meredith has been excellent … hope we see more of him. Hope the first play is a playaction go route to Kevin down the sideline …. hope we wreak havoc on defense …. hope Cutty is excellent … hope … hope.

    Money.

Bears +6 v HOU. The beloved will run and stop the run, and maim and decimate. Hall and Glenn will be near perfect.

JAX +5.5 (over GB) Lions and Bears to start with road wins. Rocky roads for Minny and GB.

TEN +2.5 (over MIN) Derrick Henry.

    • GPLDAN

Meredith has been excellent … hope we see more of him

I could really go the whole fucking game, Irish, and not see Cam Meredith and be oh-fuckin-kay with that.

      • Irish Sweetness

If we didn’t throw a pass and won in a 3-0 defensive epic, I’d be delirious.

        Conor Barth the MVP.

      • I wanna see fucking Royal do something besides be inj.

    • Frodo’s Missing Finger

Wait. Where’s the LOTR pun/joke in your post?

Other than that Frodo was pretty much an orphan?

Just think, when Gollum died he had 11 fingers. Just like Houston has 11 men on offense when they get killed by the Bears?

      • Scharfinator

INTO THE FIRES OF MOUNT DOOM WITH THEM

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

Frodo’s damn lucky the only thing he lost was a finger but yes, thank you for pointing that out. 7-11 Bears.

    Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead!
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man,
    As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, conjure up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favoured rage:
    Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let it pry through the portage of the head,
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o’erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O’erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill’d with the wild and wasteful ocean.
    Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide;
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English,
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought,
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument.
Dishonour not your mothers: now attest,
That those whom you call’d fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture: let us swear
    That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:
Follow your spirit; and upon this charge,
Cry ‘God for Halas! Ginny! and Chicago!’

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

      Thanks for the honorable mention.

  • Captain Obvious

Here’s all I want out of the game:

Cutler-to-White for at least 1 highlight reel TD.
Langford/Howard carrying and catching the ball well.
No stupidity on the first offensive possession.
No garbage sacks or blown O-line assignments.
    No shanked FG.

Defense plays tough against the run.
    Defense gets a couple sacks.

    No injuries to key personnel.

W/L? I don’t care so much about that. Just give me my list above, and I’m happy.

    • willbest

I would rather win ugly than lose prettily. Pretty is for October on. September is mostly pre-season quality games that count.

4 hours to Kap-watch. I’m tuning into that just for the anthem.

    • Johnnywad

Why? He’s just going to kneel again. Big deal.

He seems like an asshole to me. If he really wants to help solve the problem, perhaps he could actually do something about it. Taking a knee doesn’t do anything. Awareness isn’t the problem. Lack of action within the communities most effected by the problem, is the problem. So go ahead Kap, roll your sleeves up. Get involved. All he’s doing now is kneeling a minute and then back to the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Fuck him, and Marshall, and Rapinoe, and the rest of them.

      • Huge Bears Penis

don’t for get the $1mill he said he was going to donate, and the fact he got York to also donate $1mill, I am guessing more so a PR move for York. I agree the lack of action within communities is an issue, but sometime those communities don’t have resources to take the necessary actions. Also, awareness is always a problem, otherwise there would be no need for all the charities to have fundraisers and advertising to bring the issues of any problem to the forefront.

        • Johnnywad

I stand corrected. I hadn’t heard he was following through with a donation and more. A million plus the match from the Niners is putting your money where your mouth is. Good for him.

        • willbest

Awareness? If I am to believe Kaep and BLM the problem is over policing. Of course, since I can pull up FBI crime stats on my I own, I know that black communities spend 90%+ of the time killing themselves. He isn’t bringing awareness to the problem. The whole movement is looking for somebody else to blame than the people actually doing the killing.

And every city they work their magic has gotten worse, not better. Why? Because the police stop doing anything except responding to calls. So yeah the black guy minding his own business on the street doesn’t get bothered anymore, but neither does the group loitering around harassing rival gang members and little Jada who is just watching TV in the nearby house takes a stray one through the window because somebody was disrespecting somebody else.

          • Huge Bears Penis

well it is evident that you have probably only glossed over the BLM goals. While they do have problems with how black communities are policed it is not their only issue. As for the 90%+ of black on black killing stat you like to bring up it is just a stat you are trying to use to dismiss the movement. Here is a stat for you from the same FBI crime stats, 80%+ of white people killed are killed by white people. So it doesn’t matter who is killing who it is just a stat. Also change does not happen overnight, sometimes things get worse before they get better, because there will always be opposition to change. Maybe you should take some of the time you use to find stats to dismiss the issues and actually use the time to learn about the issues or find out what you can do to help.

Should be interesting today. Whitehair’s first game is against Vince Wolfork at NT. Welcome to the NFL kid. If the Bears OL is successful today the Beloved have a decent chance of winning. I don’t see it but that’s why they play the games. Watt, Merciless and Clowney had 1 less sack than the entire Bears roster last year. If Watt is anywhere close to 100% it looks grim. Bear the fuck down!

    • Huge Bears Penis

Is Whitehair starting? I hadn’t seen any news on that.

      • willbest

My blood pressure didn’t need that kind of hit this early in the morning.

        • Big Mike

This will make you feel even worse.
Long tore his labrum last month and practiced this past week in a
limited fashion for the first time in three weeks. The injury is
expected to impact Long’s performance this season, where it will be more
difficult for him to rely on his strength. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17519458/chicago-bears-guard-kyle-long-play-season-torn-labrum-left-shoulder

          • willbest

That does make me feel worse because apparently gimpy Long is better than WH. I would think WH, Lars, Sitton would be the go-to on this one.

Incidentally, that sort of explains why Long’s deal seems team friendly.

          • Big Mike

Long is an all pro. Playing through a labrum tear is a question of pain management. Wouldn’t you think they are giving Long the benefit of the doubt and letting him play. See where he is? Not a vote of no confidence in Whitehair, just saying go get’em Kyle.

          • Johnnywad

Perhaps it’s more a case of 70% Long, WH, Sitton is better than 100% WH, Larsen, Sitton.

          • TomC

Yeah, just read that and threw up in my mouth a little.

          • Big Mike

            Damn

Sent from Gmail on my iPhone

      • CanadaBear

Nothing official but everything I’ve read said they expect him to start.

    • willbest

I know Watt plays wherever Watt wants, but isn’t he usually on the guard or tackle.

      • CanadaBear

Usually. Like you said, he moves all over. In a standard set Wilfork is the NT.

        • willbest

Wilfork is less of a concern. He is 34, not 29.

          • CanadaBear

I’m more worried about stunts. If the Bears OL can handle that, who knows? I’m afraid they screw it up a couple of times and some extremely large man gets a free run or two at Cutler. I agree that Watt is more of a concern than Wilfork but he’s been all-pro plenty of times so it looks like a long day for Cody.

          • Big Mike

Long tore his labrum last month and practiced this past week in a
limited fashion for the first time in three weeks. The injury is
expected to impact Long’s performance this season, where it will be more
difficult for him to rely on his strength.

          • CanadaBear

I was trying not to be Debby Downer. I hope Kyle makes it through the season but those shoulder injuries for OLmen is a bad, bad thing.

          • Big Mike

I have no idea how he can play like that. Absolutely none. It won’t heal, he’ll need surgery the day after the season ends. That’s a gut punch. It’s like playing with .75 arms. not to mention the pain.

          • willbest

Why wouldn’t the bears protect their investment. If WH is what you say he is, he should be out there instead. Shut Long down for a couple more weeks rather than lose him for the season on reinjury.

          • CanadaBear

I think it would take months to heal up properly if surgery wasn’t needed. Pretty sure he will end up having surgery at some point.

          • Big Mike

I don’t disagree with the idea of Whitehair getting in to play for Long. Depends on how effective Long can be, or if his rotator cuff gets loose because of the labrum tear.

          • CanadaBear

That’s where I’ve been at with it but the media acts like it doesn’t matter. I just hope he doesn’t do any permanent damage by still playing. They said the same thing about McPhee last year (can still play and it won’t make it any worse) and that was a huge lie.

    • I feel a helluva a lot better knowing Whitehair, the best Oline prospect of the draft, is flanked by two PBers on each side.

If ANY team is prepared to take on Watt, it’s us. He’s not a speed rusher, so likely he’s not looping around or OTs, which means, he’s gotta go into the teeth of our big boys.

If anything, I’d be more worried about Clowney speed rushing around Massie, but hey, we can always chip if that becomes a problem.

      • CanadaBear

Same with Merciless. It’s going to be a helluva test.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Whitehair is starting at center?

        • CanadaBear

Pretty sure. Won’t know until game time (thanks Fox) but everything I read said he’s starting at center.

  • Scharfinator

Beyond the Bears game, I also will be keeping an eye on the Jets. I want to see how Matty and Brandon fair.

          • Big Mike

Amen. Preach! I was playing. I’m very interested to see how they do. More curious than concerned. Damn.. I’ve got to cut grass before I can settle into the cave. Have a great day.

          • MB30SD

Cut grass?!?!?! Isn’t that what a landscaping company is for… fuck dat noise.

            Enjoy my man

          • Big Mike

You get a bit older and its about doing things because you’re happy you can do them. Rough 2nd half. Texans have a top 5 defense. Bears couldn’t match up. Lots of reasons. Mostly they just aren’t there yet.

      • Scharfinator

        🙁

        • MB30SD

I still loves you maings, just don’t give a fuck about some player not on my team. AND FUCK THE JETS WHILE I’M AT IT!

…whoops. damn phone… but i guess it works anyway

  • Big Mike

So here we go. A few things to remember
    – a loss in September, no big deal. But beating the Texans would be.
    – we are all Bears fans here and all hope for the best inspite of our different insights
    – Fuck the Packers
    – It’s a game.

    • CanadaBear

I’ve gotta get my blog fix in early. If today is like most game days, I won’t last long on here once the game starts. Maybe with it being a new season it won’t be so brutal on here but I remain skeptical.

    27-10 bears

  • On the flip side

Texans declared Will Fuller (hamstring) and J.J. Watt (back) active for Week 1 against the Bears.
Both players were expected to play. Fuller lit up the
preseason, but he is tough to trust as anything more than aboom-or-bust
WR4 as the low-volume complement to Nuk Hopkins. The Texans might try
to limit Watt, he hassaid he wants to play every snap. Houston declared
QB Brandon Weeden, WR Keith Mumphery, S K.J.Dillon, OLB Brennan
Scarlett, LT Duane Brown, OG Oday Aboushi, and DE Joel Heath inactive
    for Week 1.

    • If we can’t get a pass rush on a backup LT, back up C (their predicted starter went down for season), and gimpy RT, then we’re fucked.

    • Irish Sweetness

I’m hoping for a big game from Hall and Glenn at corner. No fly zone. Crushing coverage sacks. Sheer brutality in the trenches. Proper fucking war.

  • PaceBot 2000

Oh that was a real bad snap

  • willbest

This not stopping the run is troubling

    • Irish Sweetness

That’s on Fangio. They’re running through zone prevent.

  • RenoBear

Wow. Eyes on the ball the whole time. It’s a beautiful thing

  • PaceBot 2000

Cm on boys need a big 3rd down stop

  • Irish Sweetness

Jacoby Glenn Johnny on the spot.

  • Irish Sweetness

    The following people are gay:

    Cody Whitehair.

    • RenoBear

C’mon Irish. It’s a bad snap. First game dude

      • Irish Sweetness

He can’t snap in any game dude. Brutal in PS, brutal now. He might be a good guard but he sucks balls at snapping. Cost us already.

  • BearDown100393

    Jax tied the game.

  • 505Bears

    Cody ballhair Damn it

  • willbest

    The 5th? I love that

  • Johnnywad

Run D not as sharp as I expected but man can our LBs cover. Fun.

    • That inside doesn’t look stout. Goldman supposed to dominate, but there have been some lanes open.

Our LB coverage has looked ok thus far. Let’s hope it stays that way

      • Irish Sweetness

Know who dominated every little snap he saw in PS?

He’s not even a Bear now.

        • willbest

          Against second string

  • PaceBot 2000

Nothing worse than a penalty on a kickoff return that didn’t need to be returned.

    • willbest

I can think of a lot worse things

      • BearDown100393

        A fumble

        • willbest

          Caleb Haine as your backup

  • Irish Sweetness

They’re spotting you 25 yards Deonte!!

  • 505Bears

    Espn is down? Ugh

    • willbest

Yeah I would be pissed if I were an insider

  • PaceBot 2000

Hate starting on the fucking 10

    • 505Bears

      90 yard drive

    • willbest

Now you are on the 19

  • Irish Sweetness

    Oh Cutty.

  • Irish Sweetness

Let’s get Howard in there and get serious. Unrein at FB.

  • SC Dave

    Cutler!

  • RenoBear

    God Wilfork is a FATASS

    • willbest

His retirement will not be easy

      • RenoBear

        Hahaha… This is true

    • Irish Sweetness

      It’s all about COMPETIN’!

    • 505Bears

      He rocks those overalls

  • PaceBot 2000

Need pts on this drive boys.

  • Johnnywad

Irish Cody just stood up Vince Wilfork by himself.

    • willbest

      Heh

    • Irish Sweetness

Oh he can block. No question.

  • Irish Sweetness

Watt has beaten neither Massie nor Sitton one on one. Nice.

  • PaceBot 2000

I love momentum killing commercial breaks for no reason.
    Actually this was a timeout…

    • Irish Sweetness

Missing a play because they’re watching the fucking replay is worse.

  • 505Bears

    Oh sitton….you beautiful beast

    • Irish Sweetness

And he has long hair and a beard.
      (swoon)

  • willbest

I will take the cheerleader on the right

    • 505Bears

      Houston breeds some gorgeous ladies

  • willbest

    Cut him!

  • Irish Sweetness

So Fox is playing the backs in series, not caring about situation.

    • willbest

No doubt, where was the triple back package

      • Irish Sweetness

On 3rd and 1 Jordan Howard should be in there no matter what time it is on the clock I mean, not just the sprite whose currently in.

  • PaceBot 2000

    Ouch massie

  • Irish Sweetness

Yup. Speed rushers. Massie can’t do it.

    • Yeah, I was worried more about speed rushers around the corner than the Watt in the middle.

If Massie sucks more, move Whitehair over to RT and Larsen at C

  • 505Bears

    Run it…ugh

  • PaceBot 2000

Gotta pound the rock on 3rd and short. Sometimes I feel like coaches overthink shit.

    • Irish Sweetness

Fuckin A. Unrein and Howard I-formation, run behind Kyle Long. This shit isn’t hard.

      • willbest

        Lasike is the FB

    • #birdCaged

      • 505Bears

        Feather boa?

  • 505Bears

Um, you have about 20 million locked up on the inside…run it!!

  • PaceBot 2000

    Big stop here

  • Irish Sweetness

    Is Fangio blitzing at all?

    • beninnorcal

      Not really

  • beninnorcal

    Shit

  • chitownproud85

Bears D = zero pressure so far. Hasnt cost us yet in a big way, but still…noticeable

  • beninnorcal

Looks like Jones-Quartay has a hammy

  • PaceBot 2000

Huge stop here must get off field

  • willbest

Irish’s man crush on Sanu. 3 for 68 and a TD

  • BearDown100393

    Jones-Forte? JFC…..

    • willbest

I don’t know. It’s their job but it’s a lot of names to keep straight

      • BearDown100393

        2nd time he’s said it.

  • beninnorcal

    That was a nice catch

  • beninnorcal

Our D is going to wear down way before theirs at this pace

  • PaceBot 2000

    Can’t get off field. Concerning.

  • Irish Sweetness

    A-GAP.

  • willbest

Forte has 70 yards from scrimmage

  • willbest

    Damn

  • willbest

    Chargers are en fuego

  • Can’t really stop Hopkins.
I’m more worried about our lack of pass rush

    • willbest

      Considering their line… Yeah

  • 505Bears

    Need 3 before half

  • SC Dave

    That looks a #1

  • PaceBot 2000

    Long hurt.

    • willbest

      For a month now

    • beninnorcal

      out?

      • PaceBot 2000

        Just tweaked his hurt shoulder.

        • beninnorcal

          Well fuck.

    • 505Bears

      Nooooo

  • BearDown100393

Jax up by 3, Tenn up by 9

  • willbest

    Dammit white

  • beninnorcal

Well it was a fun start. But that 4 and 1 stop by Houston seems to have changed everything.

    • 505Bears

Just have to hold…we get the kickoff

  • BearDown100393

    Is Willie Young activated?

    • willbest

      Yes

  • willbest

    There we go

  • beninnorcal

    Well they blitzed

  • 505Bears

    Get 3

  • BearDown100393

The return game is absolutely brutal.

  • willbest

    Damn flag

  • 505Bears

    I’ll take 10-7 at half

  • PaceBot 2000

    Ok kneel now

  • beninnorcal

Looks like Long is still in tho

  • BearDown100393

    That wasn’t a penalty.

  • willbest

    Jeffery

  • beninnorcal

    Fuck yeah!!!!!!!

  • SC Dave

That guys looks like a #1

    • BearDown100393

      All Pro

    • beninnorcal

I really don’t wanna see him go

  • beninnorcal

Thank god Jay actually under threw there

  • beninnorcal

    We need this fg

  • willbest

    Kick it

  • 505Bears

    Jeffery!!!

  • PaceBot 2000

    Kick now

  • beninnorcal

    Take the 3

  • 505Bears

    Pay the man!!

    • beninnorcal

      I approve this message

  • willbest

Get 3 take the momentum to the 2nd

  • PaceBot 2000

    Kick now damnit

  • beninnorcal

    no sack pleez

  • 505Bears

    Take 3

  • beninnorcal

They don’t trust barth from like 27 yds?

    • 505Bears

They could sign me for $50/hr to kick 30 yd fgs

  • PaceBot 2000

Kick it now. Fucking coaches. Almost nothing good can happen here.
    Except that.

    • Johnnywad

      hahahahaha

      • PaceBot 2000

        Gun. Slinger.

  • willbest

    Nathan Lane!!!

  • 505Bears

    Wtf?! Kick it!!

    • Irish Sweetness

      Believe in your QB bro.

  • BearDown100393

Good for #BirdCage and the offense. That took guts.

  • Irish Sweetness

Jay Cutler is the fucking man.

  • SC Dave

    Way to go, Jay!!

  • beninnorcal

    That looked and felt nice

  • 505Bears

    I’m lagging apparently

  • beninnorcal

    What a drive

  • beninnorcal

‘Ole smokin Jay’s still has the arm.

  • 505Bears

    Wow..just wow

  • Shady

    Unleash the dragon.

  • CanadaBear

7 seconds left in the half. WHat a kick in the nuts!!!!!!!!!! Go Bears!!!!!!!!

  • Irish Sweetness

Really the only stutter was the snap on 4th and 1. Cutty showing some balls, OL doing well. I like.

    More interceptions please.

  • GPLDAN

    Helluva half of football

    • beninnorcal

Great start, shaky middle, brilliant finish.

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

      The worm has turned

  • BearDown100393

Banged up Watt is just average.

  • 505Bears

    Handjobs all around haha!!

  • willbest

The only problem is Jeff’s monday’s post will be all about how PS doesn’t mean dick (unless you are Gould).

    • CanadaBear

If the Beloved win I’ll happily eat crow. I agree to a point about PS but when you lay 2 monumental eggs …

      • Big Mike

More proof preseason doesn’t matter. Now the varsity is dressed.

        • SC Dave

          Game is only half over

    • Dunno. I see some carry over like not being able to stuff the middle.

      Not getting a pass rush.

Being able to run the ball. Alshon looking good. White looking iffy. etc

      • willbest

I see the same thing. But winning blinds people to a lot of sins. And so it will be tomorrow.

  • PaceBot 2000

Royal. Good to have you back sir. You’re no DA or Roy Williams but I guess we will keep you around.

  • Irish Sweetness

AP on 2 yards a carry. Sweet.

    • willbest

Lamar Miller is crushing us though, he is around 7 yards a carry. And Ozzie popped one off for like 15 himself.

    • BerwynBomber

And the Cheese with their hands full in JAX. Their D apparently get off the field.

  • Man, I was this close to drafting Alshon too.

    Quick strike offense.

I know we want to grind it out, but is it more, or does the O look sharper in 2 min drill, going back to last season?

  • BerwynBomber

Cutty and Alshon looking all-pro in the first half. Royal finally paying dividends. Porter playing tremendous even if he couldn’t stop their TD. O-line doing the job.

Also the gods are smiling down upon us. That drop by Fuller was HUGE.

    • willbest

As big as the drop by whitehair for game momentum.

      • BerwynBomber

Was it on Whitehair? I couldn’t tell. Kinda wonder if we would have gotten it anyway. Plus, Jay have never liked the sneak. He never did them under Lovie and Trestman.

      • Big Mike

        bears!

      • SC Dave

        Thumb down

    • PaceBot 2000

      Yuge

    • SC Dave

      Awesome summary, BB

      • BerwynBomber

        Gracias SCD

  • Johnnywad

Its only one half of football, but Loggains is nothing like Gase at all. This looks like a modern NFL offense.

    • willbest

Definitely not conservative there at the end of the half like I expected.

  • PaceBot 2000

I just found a great location for the steakhouse.

  • Johnnywad

    Hey coach, talk to Thompson.

  • 505Bears

    Let’s go!!

  • BerwynBomber

    Ugh …

    • willbest

Not signing Jeffery is looking a lot more risky

      • Johnnywad

Jeffrey will be a Bear barring another string of soft tissue injuries. Let’s give White more than a half of football before deciding what he is.

      • Huge Bears Penis

are you drinking? if so maybe you should stop for a little while.

      • Irish Sweetness

Meredith is good. Royal and Bellamy are solid. Draft another if AJ walks.

  • 505Bears

    White..not ready

    • BearDown100393

      He. just. stood. there.

      • PaceBot 2000

Coaches over thinking. Give him set routes and easier touches until he knows what he’s doing.

        • 505Bears

          Fly routes and screens

  • BerwynBomber

D bails us out there …

  • SC Dave

    Good job, d!!

  • PaceBot 2000

Floyd came in hot on that one

  • 505Bears

    Pretty boy floyd!!

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

Yonny deserves a shot of tradewinds for losing his nerve before the half. Have you found your see legs yet boyo?

    • PaceBot 2000

      Lol

  • chitownproud85

Defense is certainly lying it out there. Kevin officially “owes one”, so i hope he plans to show us a little something.

  • Johnnywad

    Thanks coach

  • Irish Sweetness

    25 yard line. Thank you.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Bring in Howard already

  • Irish Sweetness

    Vince will pick one off.

  • Irish Sweetness

Roughing the kicker. Fucking Roughing the kicker

  • Irish Sweetness

Honestly, I would pull Kevin and put Cam in .. .except he’s not dressed in this universe.

    • willbest

      Inactive your crush is

      • Irish Sweetness

In my universe he’d be starting. Best receiver in PS.

  • We need to establish the run and stop it.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Howard. Langford can’t run rough.

      • 505Bears

No way, i have langford in fantasy haha

        • Irish Sweetness

          Stealing TDs he is!

  • 505Bears

    Once again, come on D

  • PaceBot 2000

    Yuge.

  • Irish Sweetness

Porter is toast tonight. Get Hall in there now.

    • willbest

      Porter has an int

      • Irish Sweetness

He gets beat deep, no speed. Liability. Hall sticks to them. H + G were our best two revelations in PS for me. They should be starting together, use Porter as a Nickel.

    • Our CBs will keep struggling w/out pass rush.

      • Irish Sweetness

Our rooks were shutting down guys like Josh Norman a couple of weeks ago, Porter’s not fit.

        • willbest

The rooks don’t get their head around

  • 505Bears

Offense needs to help out the D….

  • establish the run!

We paid that interior a lot, and if Leno pans out, it’ll be even more.

This is where that investment must pay off

    • Sauron’s right eyeball

Can’t get too predicable. I’d like to see Cutty go deep.

    • willbest

      We run it pretty good

      • we did well with those stretch runs in the PS

Maybe do some more of those, let Langford decide which lane to hit

  • PaceBot 2000

Short pass to Miller coming up. Then alshon time.

  • 505Bears

    Run the ball!!!

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

    Eyed go for it here.

  • Fuck. 3rd and short and throw again! WTF

  • beninnorcal

    That call was bullshit

  • all u have to do is get Auto Parts about the 40 for him to pin them

  • beninnorcal

    Floyd!!!!

  • wow. Floyd looped around nice.

  • beninnorcal

    Crowd is quiet

  • Jack Lacan

Went outside to transfer my lures from one Plano box to another and return to find the Bears remain
    WINNING…
    Toldja…

  • beninnorcal

    Lechler can boot it

    • willbest

I am jealous of pretty much every teams punter we face

  • BerwynBomber

    Our D is stout.

And I have no idea what game Blogfather is watching. We have a disruptive pass rush virtually every time Osweiler drops back.

    • pass rush is beginning to get there.

    • willbest

I don’t know what game you are watching but the Texans are 6 of 12 on 3rd down to our 2 of 7

      • BerwynBomber

What’s that have to do with the pass rush? How many conversions have been runs?

  • Johnnywad

Glenn appears to be a better DB than Fuller. Certainly a better athlete at the point of the catch.

  • Jack Lacan

An Osweiler is a giant rodent – common to Key West — see novel Razor Girl by Carl Hiassen.

  • Jack Lacan

I’m going to Jewels as we say on the South Side….and will return to find them
    WINNING…

    • 505Bears

      Don’t get shot

      • Jack Lacan

        Thanks – since I’m 76 years old I’m now bullet proof…
        and I’m in self-preservation mode…

  • SC Dave

    Ok Alshon, don’t get mad.

    Get even

  • Oh alshon

  • willbest

Raiders… You are not doing what I predicted you to do

  • Sauron’s right eyeball

Forte’s having a day against the Bengals.

  • chitownproud85

Bears look like a team that WANTS to win, but isnt READY to win. Texans have left this one wide open for the Bears to “steal” it, and they just cant make the plays. The 2nd half offense has been atrocious offensively.

  • why are we only rushing 3?

  • 505Bears

    Need stickem

  • Jack Lacan

Texan half-time adjustments — now we have a second half plan – right?

  • willbest

    AP 12 rushes for 24 yards…

  • 505Bears

Love our D. Offense, needs to step up

  • BerwynBomber

Doesn’t Brian Cushing get injured every year in the first couple games of the season?

  • beninnorcal

Nice stop, I bet they go for it though

  • willbest

    Bullshit

  • beninnorcal

    That was a shit spot

  • beninnorcal

    He was short

  • challenge that shit!

  • willbest

Oz looks like a poor mans cutler

  • PaceBot 2000

That was not a fucking first down. Game changing fuck up.

    • Irish Sweetness

The ‘penalty’ on Zach Miller Miller too.

  • 505Bears

Cutler td to jeffrey with 20 seconds left to win…..mark it

    • Irish Sweetness

      White owes us one.

      • 505Bears

        White is still green

  • Irish Sweetness

    Come on Hall. Pick one.

  • beninnorcal

    Fuck.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Wow.

  • why didn’t Fox challenge the 1st down?

    Oh yeah, albino lovie

  • BerwynBomber

Gutsy play call by HOU. Wonder if our D might start tiring. Seems like they’ve been on the field the entire second half.

    • SC Dave

Actually, most of the game. 18+ min in first half

  • Huge Bears Penis

    start kneeling them damn kickoffs!

  • Irish Sweetness

    25 YARDS!!! IT’S FREE !!!! WHY?????

  • willbest

So the not scoring in the 3rd carried over from last season

  • BearDown100393

Special teams is killing the offense. Bears routinely starting 5-8 yards behind the 25.

  • SC Dave

    Langford continues to not impress

Edit: although his pass blocking has been ok

  • Irish Sweetness

Hurry Up and screens will kill these guys.

  • SC Dave

    Desperately need a stop.

  • BearDown100393

Leno owes Cutler a steak dinner.

  • 505Bears

    Leno sucks

    • willbest

      And yet, best tackle

  • SC Dave

The biggest problem today has been not taking touchbacks

  • 505Bears

    Remember my prediction though

  • PaceBot 2000

Loggins run a fucking crossing route. Are you trying to win a bet?

  • willbest

    Your guy irish

  • BearDown100393

    Kill shot.

  • willbest

It doesn’t matter. Fox wanted a breather and just threw the flag for the fuck of it

    • He should’ve challenged the damn 1st down

      • willbest

Ball spots suck. That is why there should be a chip in the ball

        • yeah, but that was sorta obvious. It was by like a yard.
At least it would’ve stopped the clock and help the D recompose.

  • Getting BirdCaged

    • 505Bears

      Feather boa

  • 505Bears

Cutler needs to be cutler now

    • SC Dave

      This. Come on Jay

  • BearDown100393

Bears offense sputtered after Jeffery’s drop.

  • PaceBot 2000

    Uninspiring loggins. Uninspiring.

  • willbest

    Wentz a having a decent game 19/32 for 250ish and 2 tds

  • beninnorcal

All good. On to next week. This was one of the shittier matchups this year. The Bears showed some signs. Tough loss.

    • BearDown100393

      This ain’t over.

      • beninnorcal

It’s over, I won’t let it ruin the rest of my Sunday though.

    • 505Bears

      Don’t give up

  • beninnorcal

Osweiler also played a much better game than I expected

    • willbest

He is getting time to throw, he is playing about like he did last year

  • Sactowns#1

Fox is clearly even worse than Lovey at challenges. Doesn’t challenge a clearly bad spot. Challenges a clear catch.

    • beninnorcal

Can you challenge a spot? The Bears just got jobbed there.

      • willbest

Yes but it’s hard as hell

      • CanadaBear

        Pretty sure you can.

      • BearDown100393

        Yes

  • 505Bears

Need a quick 6…that’s what i tell Vegas strippers haha

  • PaceBot 2000

Loggins, it’s not a crime to use your offensive weapons.
There is no law against using Royal as a fucking slot receiver to run high percentage slot receiver routes.
It is ok to use white on screens.
Your tight end in fact exists.

    • willbest

      Miller is blocking

  • SC Dave

Woot! Made the 25! At least almost.

    • beninnorcal

      Baby steps

  • 505Bears

I think bears need to throw more going forward

  • willbest

    Jesus cutler

  • 505Bears

Who’s going to the colts game?

  • BearDown100393

    Cutler’s hurting.

    • SC Dave

Since that helmet to the ribs in Q2

  • BearDown100393

    Defense needs a pic.

    • willbest

      The runs and a punt

  • Sactowns#1

I hate to say it, but as long as the Bears have Cutler this is what our games will look like. Sad day.

    • beninnorcal

You are putting this game on Cutler?

    • willbest

      As opposed to Oz?

    • PaceBot 2000

      I’m confused.

      • Huge Bears Penis

        I 2nd that.

        • SC Dave

          3rd

    • Irish Sweetness

Nah, Sac, our line was up against it today. He was money with time.

Langford is averaging 3.3 yards per carry. This is on the line

    • Sactowns#1

I think upon review you will see Jay holding tha ball far too long and taking needless sacks.

      • I saw that too. He doesn’t seem to climb the pocket to buy that extra second.

He’s been up and down today.

    • beninnorcal

I saw several un-blocked rushers come his way in this game, resulting in big sacks. The line started off pretty good, but ultimately failed.

  • 505Bears

    Whose wife is singing? Fuck!!

  • still can’t block the stunts…like in PS

    • Irish Sweetness

      Whitehair. Straight up the middle.

  • RenoBear

This leaves with a gross lovie flashback of zero halftime adjustments and just getting flat out smoked in the second half. Fucking gross

    • beninnorcal

      I can’t argue with this.

    • SC Dave

This, and the Texans are making plays and we are not.

  • 505Bears

    Pack 1-0 bears 0-1 fuck

  • SC Dave

Although he has actually played really well, I do think that Jay misses his #22 safety blanket

    • BearDown100393

Matt has 96 yards and counting.

      • SC Dave

        I assume you mean rushino
He was near or over 100 from scrimmage in the first half

          Yep rushing.

          • CanadaBear

Birdcage simply stopped using any creativity after the half.

  • beninnorcal

Bears 2nd half offense looked like Hillary trying to stand up on her own. Sad.

  • Irish Sweetness

    Believe.

  • beninnorcal

Don’t care, I had this one as an L. They’ll live and learn. Plenty of better matchups on their schedule.

    • 505Bears

I like the D….i think they can pass more

      • SC Dave

There will be a lot to learn from film this week

      • beninnorcal

I thought they passed too much and didn’t try establishing the ground game til too late.

        • CanadaBear

Pretty tough to do with Langford consistently getting 2-3 yds/carry.

          • beninnorcal

True, but they didn’t give him many chances early.

  • willbest

    That was game

We got this. Long TD to Miller, onside recovery. Fg for the win

  • Sactowns#1

How about that Kevin White? Lol

  • AlbertInTucson

I left the bar when the Bears gave the ball back with %;24 to go down 9 with only 2 timeouts left.

I figured if THEY were going to punt, so was I.

BTW, Who thought that challenge was a good idea?

    • willbest

      It was just a timeout

      • AlbertInTucson

Pissed away timeout on an ignorant challenege.

They challenged the catch when there was never any evidence that remotely suggested it wasn’t a catch.

  • beninnorcal

I guess this is where the bad spot killed the Bears. The difference between a 9 point game vs 4 with 2 min left.

  • junk time

  • 5 sacks, 2 were on cutty, this one is more desperation mode

So the Baby Bears almost pulled one off. Not ashamed of this loss. We will get better and the Bears just lost to what will be a division winning team. This team will get better every week.

    • willbest

I am… whatever they had in the first half they lost. Houston figured out how to beat their protection, and they couldn’t adjust.

      • Sauron’s right eyeball

The game could have been won with better coaching? Yes. Loggains first year as an OC with Foxy coaching him up? These kind of games will happen. Eye expect improvement next week. Or else.

  • BerwynBomber

Admirable effort. D played well most of the game — Fangio’s unit looks impressive — O played well for a half (then disappeared). Anyway, that was a playoff-caliber team on their home turf and we hung right with them. Next three are definitely winnable.

Btw, I thought Osweiler kept us in the game the last half of the fourth quarter. He kept going for the homerun ball when a couple of first downs would have ended our day sooner.

Game ball to Porter. Freeman, Trevaithan and Floyd played well too.

    • GPLDAN

Game turned when they went for it on 4th and Whitehair blew it

      • BerwynBomber

I didn’t like not kicking there to begin with. A 47 yarder is makeable. Take the three. Would have put us up two scores too.

        • they also failed to try a 54 yarder later in the game, and punted inside the 40 instead of going for 2. So much trust in the K they just had to have who can only kick inside of 40 yards. Sigh.

          • GPLDAN

THe guy the Saints kept just missed a 60 yarder, indoors

NO wastes another HoF game by Brees. Nothing new there.

P.S. Is Sean Payton really all that as an HC?

    • Porter was awful. He got beat for three TD. Fuller burned him at the end of the first half (when he should be happy to give up anything but over the top) and dropped a 90 yard gimme. Hopkins dropped an uncontested one in the end zone in the first half (when the refs called a BS OPI on him) and then another one uncontested in the end zone in the 4th quarter right before HOU kicked a FG to take the lead.

Whee, he had one early INT. He then proceeded to get beat like he stole something for the last 3.5 quarters.

  • Takeaways:

About what we should have expected, no? Things that were noticeably disappointing to me:

    1) Front 7 was worse than I expected. Very little pressure, and gashed by run D whole first half (fixed that in 2nd half at least).
    2) Run blocking was worse than I had hoped for. That’s supposed to be the strength of this line. If the offense can’t establish the run they’re going to really struggle this year.
    3) I didn’t expect greatness from Kevin White, but something resembling competence would be nice. I’ve said for months I wanted to see him be a capable WR2 this year. Felt that was a reasonable hope/expectation. He was nothing like that today.
    4) Offensive play calling was shit. No adjustment for bad pass blocking, no counter once Houston doubled Alshon and took him out of the game in the 2nd half. Didn’t use Kevin White correctly. See how Houston used Will Fuller? That’s what Kevin White should be doing. Only go routes, screens, and curls. Take advantage of the great size/speed combo while he learns how to play the position at the NFL level. Instead they put him on a variety of complicated routes that ended in disaster and destroyed his confidence. Well done.

Other issues were what we expected coming in. OTs are bad (goodness gracious Bobby Massie), secondary is bad.

    • BerwynBomber

We had two sacks and a half-dozen solid pressures (if not more). Miller gashed us the first half but he had 20-30 yards on a few third and forever plays; i.e., empty calorie yards.

Story of the game was our O completely disappeared in the second half.

      • outside of a few plays Osweiler had all day to throw. Pass rush was not nearly good enough.

        • BerwynBomber

Again, story of the game was the O played only a half. The D did enough but eventually got gassed, IMV.

  • GPLDAN

Guys watching the All-22 are saying that the Texans came out in the 2nd half and boxed down on Jeffery. They made White try and beat them with press coverage by Joseph. He couldn’t do shit.

    • willbest

That is what I would have done. And I presume Miller was kept in to block pretty much the whole time.

    • Jeffery had 105 yards in the first half and 0 catches in the 2nd. They obviously made stopping him their priority.

Which is smart, because here’s a dirty little secret: he’s the only offensive playmaker the Bears have. The other 3 they had have all been sent packing the last 2 offseasons (all for good reason, but still hurts).

      • GPLDAN

It’s tough to say, but Zach Miller is nothing. He’s got nothing.

        • Miller is a nice solid complementary piece. Same for Royal. And Langford at this point.

        • BearDown100393

          Wasn’t given much.

        • Sauron’s right eyeball

          Olson lite?

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, that makes sense. And let’s be honest, it ain’t just on White. Considering this team once had BMarsh, Alshon, Uni and Forte running patterns, wouldn’t any team in the league with a clue double on Alshon?

  • willbest

I will try to give White the benefit of the doubt. Not every rookie can be Cooper or Benjiman or ODB or one of the other polished receivers. But its going to be difficult to refrain from opening up the 2015 draft and seeing what could have been this week.

    • BerwynBomber

I think it’s more about not having Forte, BMarsh, and Uni catching passes anymore. We should adjust/adapt but those guys were real threats. We might have had the best collection of playmakers in the league a couple/few years ago.

  • 505Bears

Bears D…good..offense needs to pass the ball more

  • Positives:
    1) Alshon is really good, and still healthy.
    2) The new ILB showed up. 28 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 QB hit. Solid in pass coverage. Their impact was noticeable in a good way. First time we’ve been able to say that about off-ball LBs since 2012.
    3) Not a bad debut for Leonard Floyd. Made a couple plays after a slow start.
    4) Nobody got seriously hurt today, per Fox. Everybody dinged up came back into the game. Somehow Cutler stayed healthy through that beating.
    5) Outside of a few shaky snaps, I thought Whitehair had a good day. The interior of that OL is gonna be awesome once they get some experience together and sort out miscommunications.

    • BerwynBomber

Agreed on all. Very positive after a loss. Well about as positive as one can be after a loss.

      We should be fine.

Sitton-Whitehair-Long is a nice interior A. They really out physicalled the most physical down lineman in the NFL early on.

      • willbest

He got a pressure on Oz that resulted in a bad throw. So it was at least once.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Negatives:

      1. We do not have a competent caller at Center. He can’t call protections yet – Cutty nearly got killed today. Larsen to start. Whitehair to back up Long and Sitton at guard. Activate Kush.

      2. Porter is toast on deep balls. Hall should start at CB, Porter to Nickel.

      3. Kevin White needs to make way for some Cameron Meredith.

      4. Langford just gets rag-dolled in the middle. No Jordan Howard tonight?

      5. Defense I liked for the most part, we were hog-tied by some dumb calls and the fumbled snap.

      • GPLDAN

        Irish –

NOW…. NOW I am ready for some Cameron Meredith.

        • PaceBot 2000

          Lol

      • BerwynBomber

Porter played a ton better than you’re giving him credit for.

        • willbest

You know Irish. He rides his preseason heroes hard and dirty if they find their way to the bottom of the 53.

        • No he did not. He had the one INT early. Then he proceeded to get beat like he stole something for 3.5 quarters.

In the 2nd quarter, he got toasted by Hopkins for a TD, only Hopkins dropped it uncontested (would have been called back on a BS OPI anyway).

With about 90 seconds left in the 1st half and HOU backed up at their own 10 yard line, he got burned by a rookie for a 90 yard TD. Luckily for him, the rookie dropped it when nobody was within 5 yards of him.

In the 4th quarter he got burned by Hopkins AGAIN for a 20ish yard TD. But Hopkins saw it bounce off his hands while Porter was 5 yards away and HOU kicked a FG to score the winning points.

He also gave up several big completions. He was terrible, just like he was terrible for the last 5-6 games of last year, and pretty much the previous 4 years before that save for that one flukey 8 game stretch at the start of last year that made Bears fans think he’s not a shitty CB.

          • Huge Bears Penis

A lot of CBs have gotten and will continue to get burned by Hopkins. This statement is in no way defending Porter. Just saying it, but i think he sucks too.

      • Cutler getting killed wasn’t on Whitehair. It was a combo of terrible OT play (esp. from Massie) and play calls that didn’t adjust for said terrible OT play.

When Fuller is healthy he should replace Porter. Glenn is better (but not good. He gives way too big of a cushion).

Langford got 21/22 RB touches/targets. It’s his job for now. He ran hard, and through contact better than last year, but sure seems like JAG to me. And he wasn’t involved at all in the passing game, which says to me he’s not going to be a threat there. That’s where the Bears miss Forte the most.

    • SC Dave

Especially positive on #3, since we did not know what to expect. Floyd good made up for White nothing

      • willbest

Its still disappointing to not have at least something exceptional between the two top 10 draft picks.

        • SC Dave

Floyd showed promise tho, Will. White looked like nothing.

Alshon, on the other hand, is a #1. As I have said for a long time. The dude can play.

I was disappointed Jay shunned him after a single drop.

          • it wasn’t a single drop. He had a drop in the 1st half, and then was responsible for an INT in the 2nd. And he still got 3 more targets after that, which almost resulted in another INT because he ran the wrong route.

White actually led the team in targets with 7. Royal and Alshon both had 6. Though to be fair 3 of White’s 7 came on the last drive, when they were probably deliberately going to him to build his confidence.

          • willbest

Yeah, I called them pre-season reps, since he was only targeted like 5 times in the PS.

          • Scharfinator

I think Dave was saying Alshon got shunned after a drop. I think we all understand why Jay was shy with White after he ran wrong/gave up on the route for the INT.

          • Alshon didn’t get shunned. He got shut down by constant extra attention from HOU. It’s like how teams treated Marshall in 2012.

We know you’re really good, so we’re gonna throw everything we have at you and dare somebody else to beat us. Betcha they can’t do it.

          • Scharfinator

I’m curious why they didn’t in the first half.

          • willbest

Because White hadn’t demonstrated himself a liability yet!

Really though its a matter of not committing more resources than you have to.

  • My #1 worry. Chaz Bono Lane

    Fucking Birdcaged.

If we can’t run, then go quicktempo aerial assault.

We don’t have Mariani/Bellamy combo out there.

Alshon, White, Royal, Miller and Langford from backfield should be enough.

The Pats would score 50 points every game with those guys, even with Garrapolo

    Fuck.

And Albino Lovie strikes again. That was an OBVIOUS challenge.

If they lose, at least it slows down momentum and allows D to rest.

That was game cuz we knew BirdCage was happening.

  • GPLDAN

Ha ha ha. Blair Walsh shanked another FG today. Hub is on the radio saying his sources tell him Robbie Gould is about to become a Viking.

    • willbest

Yes… that was the weak link on the field for them today. Not the RB averaging 1.5 yards a carry, or the QB that couldn’t get the ball into the red zone.

      • SC Dave

        Except they won, right?

        It’s a team game.

        • willbest

They did. The kicker was 4 of 6, and the defense had two scores and basically just shut down the titans.

  • willbest

Wow how did the Chargers blow that lead, and the Saints.. apparently the Bears aren’t the only team in the league that thought football games were only going to be 30 minutes long this year.

    • That Saints game was gonna be a shoot out no matter what. That’s why Del Rio went for the 2 instead of tying it with a FG.

      That’s balls right there

Chargers being chargers. Not surprised. Keenan Allen done for season by most accounts.

      • willbest

Really? So my flier on Travis Benjamin is already going to pay off?

      • SC Dave

This. I thought it was great going from the win on the road.

      • BerwynBomber

Raiders O will win very few shootouts. A lot of that is just a historically bad D.

        • That Raider O is aggressive.
Cooper is Cooper, but ppl often overlook Crabtree who almost racked up the same stats as him
Their RBs are good too, and improved Oline.

They’ll put up points, and they’ll need too cuz that Raider D looks horrible, which is surprising.

          • BerwynBomber

We’ll see. The OAK O wasn’t all that and a bag of chips last year.

And statistically, the Saints D was as bad as ours the second year of Trestman. Nothing today convinces me they’re much improved.

    • BerwynBomber

Saints have no defense. They gave up 35 to the Raiders. On their home turf.

Brees will lead the league in passing efficiency and production after W1 but it is the same old story for NO.

  • BerwynBomber

Btw, Fox deserves some heat for that 4th and 1 in the first half that resulted in the fumble. A very questionable decision even before the play occurred. A 47 yarder — in HOU no less/not exactly a kicker’s hell — would have put us up two scores there.

I say you take the points.

    • willbest

I am pretty sure the stat guys say its always better to go for it on 4th and 1. Like even on your own 40.

      • BerwynBomber

Even when points are potentially taken off the board?

        • willbest

Yeah. Because kicking a 47 yard FG isn’t 3 points. It would be consider 2.4 points. So what is your expected gain going for it on 4th and 1? Its the chance at 7 points, plus the continued option of kicking the FG less all the bad things. We just had bad things.

And to drive that point home. If Fox had listened to us and taken the points his best case scenario going into the half was then 13-10 and he went in 14-10 because he went for it both times.

          • BerwynBomber

One decision doesn’t excuse the other.

Anyway, there is no guarantee you net 7 pts even if you make that first down. You very well might be kicking a FG four plays later.

Again, I kick the 47 yarder there, especially in a stadium like HOU.

          • willbest

No its not 7 points. Say you are on 4th and 1 on the opponents 20 yard line. So if you kick a FG your expected points with a 98% kick pct would be meaning 2.94 points. But if you opt to go for the conversations you can expect to get 4.6 points out of the drive (I made that number up, I would have to find the article on it).

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, you would because it sounds a bit dubious.

          • willbest

Here is one analysis of it

            As a rule of thumb:

On fourth-and-1, go for it any place on the field where that is possible, starting at your 9-yard line.

On fourth-and-2, go for it everywhere beyond your 28-yard line.

On fourth-and-3, go for it almost everywhere beyond your 40.”

            http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/05/upshot/4th-down-when-to-go-for-it-and-why.html

          • Scharfinator

What is the expected points at going for it at 4th and 1 on the 47? You can’t cite the adjusted score probability for one play and not another. That’s some bullshit statistics.

          • willbest

I don’t have it, there was an article on it a while back but the conclusion was pretty much you should always go for it on 4th and 1.

    • Agreed 100%. And they should have gone for it on 4th and 2 from the 39 in the 2nd half instead of punting if they don’t trust their K to kick a 57 yarder in ideal conditions.

  • SC Dave

I laugh at the fantasy assholes who suggested leaving Forte on the bench. So.even people never learn.

    • I made sure to target him in draft esp after their other HB went down.

      He’s just steady-eddie.

His floor is 20 touches, 80 yds, 25 rec yds

      Hopefully the TDs will come.

      High end RB#2

    • BerwynBomber

Nothing new. Monuments are erected weekly for Peanut on this site. Forte? Yeah, solid back but wasn’t much on short yardage. That seems about the gist.

      • SC Dave

155 yards from scrimmage. BB. Did anyone on the Bears do that today?

        • Johnnywad

Jesus Dave. The Bears played the Texans. The Jets played who? You think that’s a proper way to look at it?

          • BerwynBomber

Cincy. They got a pretty good D last I looked.

Btw, I’m not one to lament Matty moving on, but I don’t think he was ever much appreciated on this site. No biggie but it was noticeable.

          • SC Dave

Facts are stubborn things. And actually, if some attempts been made to throw the ball to Alshon after his drop, he may have done it.

            But see that first sentence.

          • Scharfinator

What? Houston was 9-7 (313 points against) last year and Cincy was 12-4 (279 points against). Seems clear who the better team was in 2015 (hard to say with only one game in 2016).

          • willbest

Cincy lost some people I believe.

          • Johnnywad

It’s not my analysis, but many folks suggest the Texans D may be the best in the league this year. They also played last season without a quarterback. So the points and yardage stats from a season ago are tough to really decipher with respect to today.

My larger point, is that using the fact that Forte had a big day for another team, against another team, and no Bears player did, in this game, against this team, as further proof that Forte should still be a Bear, doesn’t hold water. The two aren’t related.

Forte’s career speaks for itself. He’s damn good. He may still be damn good another season or two. But I totally understand the reasoning behind letting him go. 16 games will tell us whether it was a long term mistake or not.

  • Scharfinator

Overall, a tough loss but not an embarrassing loss. The D looks better than last year. I like that.

I’m not sure what the fuck we were doing rolling over at the 2 minute warning. I understand it is a two score game and I understand it is unlikely to pull out a win. BUT WE WERE WALKING TO THE FUCKING LINE WHILE THE CLOCK RAN! The only reasoning I could understand is that Fox said to hang it up because it is early in the season and no one should get hurt….

I do wonder how bad we will miss this later on, a potential W because we decided to roll over when we are hunting for a wild card berth.

    • willbest

The loss was tough because it just stopped and there was no answer. So either they aren’t conditioned, or their schemes are weak and they can’t adjust.

    • SC Dave

Especially after Cutler spent so much of the second half getting beat up. Maybe Jay-health was the point of dialing it in?

  • Jack Lacan

Look we can still go – 15 and 1…
I’d be into the Xanax if we’d lost 33-0 or just got stomped.
These Bears have (dare I say it) potential. We will survive…
    Go Bears…

    • SC Dave

Yup. The sky is still up.

  • PaceBot 2000

The phenomenon that is know as getting Birdcaged…….

When your #1 has no catches in the 2nd half.
    #Birdcaged
When you don’t give your #7 WR draft pick any routes that can showcase his skillset.
    #Birdcaged
When you don’t run plays that stress the opposing LB’s and DB’s by making them actually run laterally.
    #Birdcaged
When you consistently can’t convert 3rd and short and refuse to use your FB, DT/FB, TE or Slot WR
    #Birdcaged
When you don’t adapt to the opposing D completely figuring out your protections.
    #Birdcaged
When the opposing rookie 1st round pick torches you for 110yd+ running routes he’s accustomed to and you do the complete opposite to your own 1st round pick WR.
    #Birdcaged

    • SC Dave

      The White apologies have begun.

      • BerwynBomber

Not really. I think it is more of matter of people saying it is only 1 game and the dude’s very first.

        • Scharfinator

Versus their first round rooking with 100 yards+ and a TD? Hard to excuse a guy who has had mental reps for a year when you see that…

          • willbest

More than that, he got 3-4 weeks of practice with the team coming off the PUP last season before they moved him to IR. He should know his routes.

          • He had 1 year as a starter in NCAA. He was always going to be an incredibly raw WR with outstanding physical skills. His size/speed combo is rare, but it takes time to put it together.

Until he’s ready to be a full NFL WR, he should be used like the Texans used Will Fuller today. Three routes:
            1) Go deep. Make them respect your speed.
            2) Curls. When they give a big cushion because of your speed, you get an easy 8-10 yards.
            3) Screens. Get the ball in your hands to see if you can use that size and speed to earn some yards.

That’s all Will Fuller did today, and it got him 100 yards, a TD, and tons of confidence. If he hadn’t dropped a gimme right before halftime, he would have had 200 yards and 2 TDs running three simple routes.

Instead the Bears have White running option routes when he doesn’t know how to read the defense and adjust accordingly. Go long, curl back short, or get it behind the line. That’s all you need to do to make defenses respect you.

          • As a former WR, you can add a few more.

            The slant
            Out

I also see no reason he can’t run a post and corner post

            yes, def no option routes.

            But It’s not rocket science

          • Scharfinator

            Amen.

    • I never understood why fans just assumed Gase leaving was no biggie, that Loggains would just step in and keep the train chugging.

First off, it’s not as if Gase’s O last season was the greatest show on turf.

Then, if Loggains’ was so good, why didn’t Gase just take him with and make him the Fins O (it would’ve been a promotion either way, maybe throw in part HC into the title).

Loggains has never proven squat besides being chummy with Cutty.

Being so limp with our talent is foreboding.

      #IncompetentConsistency

      • willbest

Loggains on the one hand seems more aggressive than Gase, and on the other seems to have less vision.

      • Fox has a history of having excellent coordinators. It’s his biggest strength as a coach by far. He surrounds himself with good people. Long track record of it. I trust his judgment there very well.

But Loggains gets an F for today.

  • Huge Bears Penis

Does Dallas ever have a home field advantage? Watching the Dallas/NYG game in Dallas, pretty loud contingency of Giants fans.

  • BerwynBomber

Did not expect this from DET. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain it in the second half.

    • IND D is mediocre at best and missing their top 3 CBs.

      • Huge Bears Penis

IND Oline is mediocre at best also in both run and pass blocking.

        • SC Dave

          Bad (for) Luck

not sure Luck will make it through the season healthy.

            Agreed, sadly. Poor bastard.

          • willbest

In point of fact he is a rich fucker.

        • That GM should have been fired years ago. He’s done one good thing in his career and that’s luck into the 1st overall pick in a draft with the most hyped QB prospect in 20 years.

          • Huge Bears Penis

I am pretty sure the reason Indy’s GM hasn’t been fired yet is because he supplying the owner with pills.

    • BerwynBomber

And just like that IND goes 80 years in a minute with no TOs to cut into the lead.

      • willbest

And that is why luck gets paid what he does. But they should invest in keeping him upright.

  • SC Dave

We’re okay, gang. Tho our only chance for revenge is if them bitches get to the Super Bowl

  • Huge Bears Penis

White seems to still be playing with a college mentality. Look at the interception when he stopped his route. He stood and watched it get intercepted but did not run over and tag the player down. He just stood there and watch like he expected the play to be over because the DB went to the ground.

    • SC Dave

That, if true, tells me he does not have the one essential of being a professional football star -> brains.

      • Huge Bears Penis

I would not go that far yet. There have been plenty of receivers that have made college type mistakes like catching a ball while going to the ground then drop/spike/spin the ball without being touched down, only to have the other team recover it. I want to say D Bryant did it his rookie year.

        • SC Dave

Is D Bryant known for brains? 🙂

Years ago I remember coming out of Soldier Field listening to sarcastic Bears fans saying – well at least we beat the Eagles.
    There you have it.

    • Huge Bears Penis

might as well pack it in then.

      • willbest

Yes I can see where my comment could be construed as going full Blackhawks63

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, can’t say I saw that coming. Thought all four NFCN teams would have a tough time of it.

MIN probably had the weakest opponent but I thought the S. Hill (on the road) factor would doom them.

Oh well. We did play the toughest team, though JAX might be spunky this year and Luck can always keep IND in it.

      • madscout12

We get to play all 6 of teams involved in games against our division rivals. We should roll the Titans, Colts, and Lions. We should beat the Vikes. The pack always play tough, and I feel less confident in beating the Jags now. All told, against those opponents, we should come away 6-3 if we play to the level we can play to. Probably 5-4.

        • With Birdcage and questionable pass rush, we’re not rolling anyone this year. We’d be lucky to squeak out 8 wins.

          • madscout12

Nah. I think the Texans are going to be one of the best teams in the NFL this year. My point is that we just played one of the two worst teams on our schedule away. Things will get better, if the above mentioned run stuffing improves.

        • Johnnywad

Who the hell knows? I thought the Bears were gonna roll today after the first half. Then pffffffffttt.

        • BerwynBomber

Mostly agree but DET might be a tougher than first thought. Yeah, they lost Megatron but their team might be a little better overall. If nothing else, they go D. Levy back. And remember, they beat us twice last year.

          • madscout12

They beat us with Alshon out, and they “beat” us at home with one of the worst called games I’ve ever seen. And INDY’s D SUCKS. SUCKS. And their O-Line. And INDY hung 15 unanswered to come back in the 2nd half.

We just need some confidence, and Philly and Dallas are the teams to give it to us.

  • BearDown100393

    15-1

  • CanadaBear

    When I think of the Chicago media I think of this guy. The rest of the piece is pretty much what happened during the game and then this;

But for Chicago’s offense to truly thrive, Cutler needs to trust all his receivers.

White is here to stay. The former seventh overall pick is the Bears’ future. He is supposed to be a centerpiece moving forward to justify the draft selection.

Cutler, 33, played fairly well behind poor protection on Sunday, but the guaranteed portion of his contract expires after the season.

If push comes to shove, it’s not a stretch to think the Bears will support White, even though Cutler is the quarterback. That is why Cutler and White’s relationship is of the highest importance.

    • willbest

Last I checked Cutler has 5 years left on his contract (including 16) and White only has 3. Further, last I checked there were only about a dozen QBs clearly better than Cutler, but a hundred or so WR that are clearly better than white.

Lastly it doesn’t matter if Cutler names him the godfather to his next child if he isn’t going to run the right routes.

Cutler will throw it anywhere his OC tells him to. It’s on Nathan Lane and Fox to design and call plays that put White in a position to succeed, but for the moment White is a JAG. And he will be that way until he demonstrates the ability to do something Wilson can’t do.

    • madscout12

Dickerson has always hated Cutler. He’s generally a good beat writer, but just ignore the stupid Cutler comments.

    • BearDown100393

Kevin White’s day – 2 drops, quits on a route causing an interception and flagged for a false start. Push comes to shove? #Dickhead

    • his headline was “Cutler and White on different page.”

Not “White can’t run routes.” or “White has a terrible day.”

has to throw Cutler in there like it’s his fault too.

      • Johnnywad

White didn’t even look fast today. You’d at least think he’d jump off the screen that way. But nothing. He’s clearly not ready.

        • BearDown100393

          He has a leg.

  • BuddhaJoe

    The Fuck Yous for today:

1: Fuck you Loggains: His predictable play calling sucked and the Texans clearly knew where to be on almost every play in the 2nd half (not hard since my idiot ass guessed run/pass on 80%)

2: Fuck you O-line: Gotta give Cutty time and in the 2nd half they failed miserably.

3: Fuck you Kevin White: The only impact you made was quitting on a route and causing the only interception of the day.

4: Fuck you D: For every good play you had, you made up for it by a massive fail. A gump like Osweiler shouldnt have 4 seconds a play to throw the ball, and you let a guy who averaged 15 touches a game in his career rush for over 100 yards.

All that said nobody expected us to win this game so hopefully it’s just a learning experience. 15 to go.

    • willbest

In Lamar Miller’s defense Miami hated him for some unknown reason and under utilized him.

      So many fucks given

      • BuddhaJoe

Could’ve been a couple more but the beers started working and I’m out of fucks to give and now I’m tired and content. That was just my rant.

  • madscout12

I’m happy it wasn’t a blow-out. It easily could have been with how many times our CBs got beat.

It really came down to a few plays, and we were in position twice to put them away and didn’t.
    4th and 1 – bad snap
    Beginning 2nd Half – INT
Key stop on 3rd and 1 – bad call gives them the 1st and they promptly score.

I think if any of the above go the bear’s way, we had a shot. Also, if we don’t disappear in the 2nd Half on O, we hang with them.

GB doesn’t have a D line like that. Det sure as hell doesn’t. Minny might.
Nobody in the NFC East has a D-line like that.
Nobody else in the AFC South has a D-Line like that.
    TB and SF don’t.
So the inability to block and run the ball doesn’t concern me as much.

On D, we just couldn’t stop the run. That’s disconcerting given that their line aren’t world beaters. Let’s hope that doesn’t continue against the Iggles.

    • They were playing with a backup LT, C, and gimpy RT

And Miller will be lucky to make 1 PB in his life.

We simply need more talent on the Dline.

      • madscout12

Especially since we specifically signed a monster up front to fix just that problem. That shit needs fixing like yesterday.

        • Hicks was the 4th DT in NE’s rotation last year. He played less than half the snaps.

He wasn’t signed to be a monster. That’s why his contract is about 10% of the guaranteed $$ of Malik Jackson’s.

The monsters need to be Goldman and Bullard. This is a team that’s a year away from contending, and this year is all about getting those young guys to step up and become the studs.

If they want to win big in the next few years, their biggest playmakers have to be one of the RBs, White, Jeffery, Floyd, Goldman, Bullard, and somebody from the secondary has to emerge. And the young OL needs to gel into a real strength. They can replace Massie next year and have a damn good OL, IMO. If Leno’s your worst starter that’s a good line.

    • BerwynBomber

Though Miller did chalk up some garbage yards. There were at least two if not three carries where he gained substantial yardage on third and forever downs.

Also, HOU shot themselves in the foot a couple of times in the RZ with penalties and Fuller’s drop in the first half really turned the end of it in our favor.

      • willbest

3 plays go our way we win. 3 plays don’t and we lose by 20

        • madscout12

One of those plays directly lead to 7 points instead of a probable 3. One of those plays completely swung momentum. And the last lead to a TD that they wouldn’t have had. That’s at least 11 points by my count, maybe more. And that’s with the shit show we had on O in the 2nd half and not being able to stop the run all day.

        • BerwynBomber

Agreed and don’t forget Cutty’s first pass of the game, which was arguably his worst play all day. If a Tracy Porter-type is defending that play, we may have been down 7-0.

Bottom line, the final score was probably indicative of the difference between the two teams.

  • I never get why HCs do that.

They could’ve called a TO (they had 3 of them) at 2:35 and saved 40 seconds.

Instead, the Cards let the clock run, they get at it 1:50.

    • madscout12

Then you don’t feel like you have to air it out 3 times in a row.

  • BillW

Didn’t catch the game. Going to be that way frequenly. Anxious to read comments tomorrow after the sting wears off.

    Uninformed thoughts:
    1. ‘Birdcage’ have a bad 2nd half? Couldn’t adjust to what may have been Denver adjustments?
    2. Line obviously needs time to get used to each other. No surprise they had a rough first game considering it was against a stellar d
    3. Sounds like legit concern on white. Injuries can’t excuse running the wrong route
    4. Albino Lovie again? Got to live with it. Some people think he’s a caretaker anyway (as opposed to a cryptkeeper)
    5. Biggsy is worrying me. His article tonight had a tone that was more Haugh.

  • GPLDAN

The OPI on Zach Miller that pulled back the big screen gain by Langford is the shittest, most Texan homefield bullshit call I have seen against a team in a long while.

It turned out not to matter on that drive, but that was a terrible call, and really the kind of call the Bears seem to get on the road.

    • It was total BS.

    • madscout12

I’m tired of seeing benefit of the doubt spots for literally EVERY OTHER TEAM. Did Cutty make it? No, but I bet if it is Brady, Houston has to challenge. And fucking OsweilerIdon’tcarehowtospellhisname wasn’t even fucking close.

      • BuddhaJoe

That wouldn’t have bothered me so much if he hadn’t made one of the dumbest challenges I’d ever seen and wasted a timeout that might have been useful later. Like, you let that one go then waste it on a completely obvious catch later, c’mon.

They do that, but earlier, they preferred keeping the TOs till after the 2 min warning.

    • AlbertInTucson

Actually, I think it’s pretty shrewd.

There are other was to stop the clock when you have the ball but, once those seconds have ticked off the clock, they are gone and you cannot get them back.

He’s assuming the New England foield goal and wants to give his guys as much time as possible on the clock.

      • AlbertInTucson

By taking those 2 TOs, the cards goit the ball with 3:39 left instead of maybe 2:28 or so.

Would you rather have 2 TOs or an extra 1:10 or so?

        I’ll take the extra time.

        • If they didn’t stop Garrapolo (and it was close) then it would’ve been a diff story.

Not sure if I dislike the call.

But odd. They have a good D so I guess he felt comfortable getting a stop there

This ain’t the Bears. Arians had justifiable faith in his defense.

If they didn’t stop them, it would have been moot.

Pats would have run the clock down and kicked as time expired.

          • BerwynBomber

It was odd but it worked out for Arians. And as much as Belichick outcoached him, the hoodie had some clock management issues the last minute and a half of the game which were nearly Andy Reid-like. They should have gotten the ball back with 50+ seconds instead of 35. Of course the FG miss made it moot anyway, but NE squandered 20 seconds of clock.

  • BerwynBomber

Garappolo had played excellently. Heckuva game.

    • BearDown100393

      McDaniels ain’t #BirdCage

  • AlbertInTucson

Now he’s put the screws to the Pats and Belicheat is trying to save some time.

  • willbest

Apparently the pats didn’t want those 15 seconds

  • AlbertInTucson

    Rookie long-snapper. Goodnight, folks.

  • willbest

    QB controversy!!

    • haha

As in, who’s gonna be the idiot to trade for Garap after 4 games?

      • BearDown100393

        Cleveland once RGIII goes down

      • AlbertInTucson

In our league it was a choice you needn’t make. “Team QBs”. You get Jimmy AND you get Tommy when he comes back.

  • better lucky than good, but sometimes helps to be both.

    Freaking Pats.

  • BerwynBomber

Belichick once went 11-4 with Matt Cassel as a starter. At the time Cassel had not started a game since high school.

    • They got lucky tonight. Bad long snap.

      Game over.

Garapolo looks like he can start in the league though.

So far. Then again, teams don’t have tape on him yet.

      • BerwynBomber

And Belichick already has the 25 yard touchback thing figured out. I would not be shocked if he is only HC who thought that far ahead.

Though obviously they all will by W2.

        • I seriously thought every team would pooch it like that with the new KO rule.

I even thought that maybe we let Gould go cuz we wanted to try it.

          Guess not.

          • BerwynBomber

I honestly didn’t think of it till I saw NE employ the strategy. Bully for you being on top of things.

    • TBC

Actually cassell went 10-5. The patriots won that week 1 game against the Chiefs. They finished 11-5

“Luck is the residue of desire” – John Milton.

    Maybe..

But sometimes, it’s the residue of having a rookie long snapper.

    • BerwynBomber

And sometimes you get outcoached by a team missing its two best O players.

      • AlbertInTucson

I believe that falls into Mr. Milton’s definition.

  • MB30SD

I continue to maintain that Edelman is the engine of that o man. Dude is a possession machine

    • Jes.

Although Fitzy is a beast too, and I’m glad I started him over Edleman tonight.

      • AlbertInTucson

That was a SICK TD catch for Fitzgerald.

      • That Guy

I hate the ESPN app. Figured I’d take a quick glance at the lineup this morning on my phone instead of the cpu. No mention that Chris Ivory was hospitalized and a last minute scratch. Then the app crashed. I’m taking it off my phone tonight. I’ll roll old school on the desktop.

I left my two SD running backs on the bench to see which one would be the better starting option. Turns out they both put up 20+ Not to mention Luck dropping 40 points.

Such is the fickle world of fantasy football.

      • Irish Sweetness

He’s on nearly every one of my teams. Baller. Everyone went to sleep on Fitzy, you could pick him up in the sixth round this year.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Won MY FF opener.

Played Gostkowski but but benched Blount just before the morning games started.

Switched him out for DeMarco Murray.

    • AlbertInTucson

Of course, I also played Coby Fleener instead of Doug Baldwin.

Fortunately, THAT didn’t bite me in the ass.

More often that not, last minute switches have blown up in my face.

      • Irish Sweetness

Dude. Doug had 14 TDs last year!

    • Irish Sweetness

I’ll just have my coffee and check how my 36 teams did.

  • BerwynBomber

A couple of the offensive positives today — and there were not many — were that a) Alshon looked like a Pro Bowler in the first half, and b) Royal actually contributed.

It will suck ass if White proves to be a bit of a bust, but if we can get Alshon and Royal going (and keep them healthy) the wideouts should be in decent shape.

Don’t know what happened to the O-line in the second half but they looked like a different unit after the first half.

  • Irish Sweetness

I just got free HD streaming access to any game ever … live or whenever!! For being poor!!

Thank you HeHe streams!!! Happiness is …

I’m off to dissect the harassment of Jay Cutler.

    Send in Mr. Whitehair …

  • Irish Sweetness

    Thoughts on the first half:

    1. If we judge the offense on its first possession, we can be pretty good.

    2. Kevin White’s body tells you where he’s going before he makes his break. His routes aren’t seamless. Left Cutty hanging out to dry for the INT. Cameron Meredith needs to be introduced in his place. Keep White for screens and go routes.

    3. I got some stick for saying if Cody started at center we’d lose/ Look at what happened with less than 3 minutes to go in the first. Cody muffs the snap. We were already in FG range. If Ted Larsen is in there that doesn’t happen, we get the required few inches (hopefully) and then have a good chance at 7 points. We come away from the drive between 10-14 points to nothing. That’s on Cody. Decent blocker who can’t call the protections or snap the ball consistently. He’s not ready to play Center. We blocked a FG that went through. Game could have gone either way for us but it’s those plays that can turn a game like that, and it was done early. That’s a different ballgame right there if you go up two TDs.

    4. Jordan Howard must be used. He brings a dimension that Langford doesn’t have he can catch the ball – so you don’t lose that when he’s on the field.

    5. Time will probably show that the Houston defense is pretty good. Clowney and Watt are on that line. Kyle was chewing him out on the sideline bigtime. First two picks next year? OTs.

    6. Massie is fine in run blocking and dealing with bull rushes in pass pro, but man is he useless against speed rushers.

    7. Vic Fangio has no balls. No balls.

    8. Defense is about Pressure, Vic. Capital ‘P’. You have NO balls.

    9. The players on D are fine. Bar the guy that just came off the bench. Porter isn’t quick enough to play press. Deiondre Hall is, and he can play press really well. Porter to nickel and Hall/Glenn get the nod at CB. He made a great pick. He gave up a lot through the air, dude was beaten like a drum.

    10. Adrian Amos is not making many mistakes but a lot of tackles.

    11. Danny Trevathan is really good when rushing the passer. Freeman looks great in coverage.

    12. Jay’s first half? Hurried but mostly very good. One very low pass to White. Another could have been picked …. but he was money.

    Second Half:

    13. When Cutty has time to throw, he’s money. Crennel was blitzing the shit out of him on third down because we din’t

make the respect the run. We need Howard in there to do that.

    14. Watching Massie with the speed rushers is like watching Omiyale or Webb. We are in trouble at RT. Or rather Jay is.

    15. The second half was about Jay getting beaten up.

    Things that could bring hope:

    * Cutty won’t face that defense every week. If he has AJ, RoyaL & Cam, he’ll be fine.

    * Somebody in their infinite wisdom might put Larsen back at Center and keep Whitehair as the backup guard.

    * We might see some Jordan Howard, who is a better weapon than Langford IMO. I think he looks faster, and he’s obviously bigger and stronger. He catches the ball. Play him.

    * The eventual return of Nanny McPhee!

    • Bender McLugh

agreed on all points but Cody. I thought he played incredibly well against that defensive front.
