    Konichiwa Bitches.

So many to choose from. All to be worked out in the offseason of ultimate hope!

    • Bear Down in Tampa

You beat me to it you magnificent bastard!

  • Bear Down in Tampa

Kyle Fuller and the lack of talent in the secondary have to go together right?

    • MB30SD

      you magnificent bastard!

Can I ask for a second good young safety!? Too much to ask… we are the bears after all.

    • DaBearsBlog

No because Fuller is supposed to be good. The other are not.

    • TheBigCheesy

All zips are zoodles, but not all zoodles are zips.

  • As much as I wanted to select John Fox, who cost them one game and almost lost them Oakland by not going for 2 in an obvious go-for-two scenario because “it wasn’t late enough in the game to justify it” in his conservative mind, I once again took the long-term view.
By the time the Bears are ready to win Super Bowls, John Fox will not be their head coach. He’ll be off sipping a margarita somewhere. I accepted this the moment Pace hired Fox; Bears aren’t winning a SB in the next 5 years, and that’s ok.
With that in mind, long-term approach is key. And thus the young defenders to build around are the best thing we’ve seen, while a lack of talent in the secondary is the worst.

    • DaBearsBlog

Next five years is silly. No team is more than 2 years away.

Bears have offense to win title in 2016. They simply need to add players on defense.

      • TheBigCheesy

The bears don’t even have the offense to win the DIVISION in 2016.

        • beninnorcal

          Yes they do.

        • Pissed Off

No not yet but they are close. Just need everything to click and everyone to play up to their capability. A little more line help would be nice as well as appropriate play calling.

        • Joecashflow

Winning the Division probably not, winning a WC yes they do.

      • AlbertInTucson

5 Years is an EON in today’s NFL.

        • BearDown100393

or a blink of the eye in Cleveland

      • BearDown100393

So Matt Forte is returning next season or you have another running back hiding in the wings?

        • BerwynBomber

Good question. Also, if we are SB contenders next year, I assume it is settled that we are giving Alshon a huge deal.

        • If POX believe they’re “close”, they’ll definitely re-sign Forte.
Forte might be a litmus test to give us a hint as to how they view the 16 Bears.

If they re-sign Forte, I expect big FA signings to correspond.

If not, POX might just skimp in FA in order to focus more through the draft and rebuilding.

        • Joecashflow

Somebody will pay Forte thinking type money. Not the Bears, who are building for the future.

      • they won’t win the division or a SB as long as Fox is head coach.

Division because Rodgers will be here that entire time, and as long as he’s healthy and in his prime GB will win the division every single year.

SB because John Fox is not a SB-winning caliber coach. Conservative coaches don’t win 4 big playoff games in a row.

I said that as soon as the Bears hired Fox, and I stand by it.

        • Bear Down in Tampa

If we get a bye we only have to win 3 big playoff games in a row 🙂

          • you need to win your division to have a chance at a bye. I stated above why I don’t think that will happen when Fox is in Chicago.

          • Bear Down in Tampa

The smiley face was more to invoke jest but come on, we’re one sprained Aaron Rodgers vagina away from winning this division.

        • Pissed Off

Just need shae to take him out one time and the division is open that year

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

i hope Shae isn’t on the team after this year.

          • Pissed Off

Can’t argue with that unless he’s coming off the bench

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

            nope don’t even want that.

          • Pissed Off

            To each his own

          • Joecashflow

            He is, according to Fangio.

          • Joecashflow

            Fangio won’t let that happen.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

you can’t be sure of that. Fangio knows he does not have much to work with this year, so he is going to talk up what he’s got. He is not going to Kromer anyone.

        • Joecashflow

But I think we all agree that Fox was best available and good for building a winning attitude. Best coaching tandem for the Beloved in a long long time. Won’t crown him yet, after just a few games and totally agree we won’t win a SB with him,

        • Bear Down in Tampa

You would think he would have learned from that first Super Bowl with Carolina. When they got down big and had to start airing it out they had success. They got beat because Kasay all of a sudden forgot how to kickoff.

      • BillW

Let’s parse this and see that Jeff is not wrong. The offense the Bears have and likely to have next year is/will be as good as many others that have won Super Bowls in the past.

However, it’s simply unlikely that the rest of the team (defense and specials) will be good enough to make that leap.

It’s not at all a stretch though to see the Bears being in the wild card conversation at some point next year.

        • I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see them in the playoffs in the next 2 years, depending on QB (if they keep Cutler, or how good the replacement can be, and how quickly). Fangio will get this turned around, and it won’t take long.

      • Trac

        Quite, here here.

    • Trac

      Bully I say, bully.

    • Pissed Off

Disagree. Like Jeff said every team is 2 years away. Nfl…..not for long. There are always teams that pop out of nowhere to Make a run. We have some nice things going on offense but it would still need some work to be a contender and the d needs tons of help but that could all shore up in a year or two.

      • Joecashflow

That sounds like a Yogism. Every team is 2 years away from making the playoffs, therefore we aren’t??? And don’t forget, ” Nobody goes to the games anymore, because they’re too crowded”.

        • Pissed Off

And they give you cash which is just as good as money

  • AlbertInTucson

I went with the Red Zone issue. They’ve left a LOT of points on the field and it’s cost them at least 1 and maybe 2 games.

    • BerwynBomber

Yes, we had RZ issues against GB too.

Although GB is more forgivable as their D has been better, more consistent that DET’s. Plus, I sensed our GB effort (as an entire team) was about the best we could muster at the time.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Speaking of “Negativity”…

    Duncan Keith.

    Knee surgery.

    Out 4-6 weeks.

    Lovely.

    • short-term? It sucks.
long-term? Gives a bunch of gives a chance at increased roles. Hopefully 1-2 of them step up and earn Q’s trust. If that happens, it would be great for this team.

      • Bear Down in Tampa

It also keeps the wear and tear off his body when he has to play 30-40 MPG in the playoffs.

  • AlbertInTucson

I think “Alshon Jeffrey’s Health” at 0% is telling.

    • BerwynBomber

Maybe not as much as you think. Could be that he also settled everyone’s fears and gripes with his performance Sunday. 8 catches for a 145 and a TD is #1 worthy.

      • MB30SD

I was relieved to see that, I had almost written him off.

        • Maybe the new coaching staff don’t start players until they’re 100% (esp with hammys)?

          • EnderWiggin

I would love to say I agree, and that is a smart move. But I think Cutty is nowhere near 100% – only one or two options since he came back.

          • a QB with limited mobility is a lot different than a WR who can’t cut or jump though.

          • SC Dave

Cutler has ever been, so far as I can tell, 100%. If it’s not physical, it’s mental.

But as I said when the big contract was signed, “Jay is our quarterback!”.

So, just go kick ass, Mr. Cutler. I’m weary of not seeing it.

          • MB30SD

            lame

          • The thing with hammys is that they’re easily reaggravated.

Ppl can get out of bed and pull it.

          • MB30SD

yes, I know. That said, must have been VERY severe to take almost 2 months

So they either lied about the severity, or had to talk to him about getting off his fat ass and making some fucking noise on the field. Based on all the “frustration” talk from the coaches we heard about, seems like the latter.

That said, I don’t give a fuck what happened in the past, if he keeps putting up games like the last one, let’s pay the man! (add a fat/lazy clause)

          • SC Dave

Personally, I’d rather see them take a week or two extra on a “dead” season than make him useless forever.

And if/when Alshon finishes off the season as our #1, I’ll be expecting (well, not really) all the know-it-alls (and I’m trying to be charitable here) on this blog to eat some crow.

            Yeah, a boy can dream.

          • Trac

Oh they do, they do. Ahem…

          • MB30SD

            oldballs

      • It was the 1st time we’ve seen a healthy Jeffery since 2013. Forgot how fun that was to watch him win jump balls downfield; he didn’t do that last year.

        • Joecashflow

Adds that down field fear that keeps the D off balance and should open up the middle routes for Royal. Love to see more running room for Royal after the catch.

          • SC Dave

            To say nothing of Forte.

      • Joecashflow

That is equally impressive of Cutler to get him the ball without the time to practice their timing.

  • The Yes Guy

    Yes.

    • Irish Sweetness

      Got his mojo back!

  • Ronald Raes

Kyle Fuller. I really had high hopes for him. Hope he snaps out of it and started making plays on the ball…

  • Jeff I ordered a shirt from that organization (couldn’t help it. Stars Wars AND Bears? Yes please!).

I ordered a v-neck, HOWEVER they didn’t show any pics of how it actually looks, so I’m just going on blind faith here.

They also gave the option of a long sleeve, which cost more, but interested me too. However, they didn’t “model” that either.

So, if you’re in touch with them, maybe inform them to show all the different versions of the shirt so that buyers like myself can perhaps purchase more.

Hot chicks in the t-shirts wouldn’t hurt either.

(Hey, just trying to do my part for the cause).

Cool. And thanks for partnering with them. This might be the first Bears merchandise I bought in a few years, and it’s mostly cuz part of it goes to charity.

  • I think it depends on if you’re worrying about the team short or long term.

Long term, I definitely think Fox’s game management is a colossal concern (Albino Lovie, anyone?).

Short term, it has to be the secondary and redzone inefficiency, respectively.

    • Irish Sweetness

Not being able to stop the run is as concern. Detroit were the worst in the league, and we made Riddick look like Barry Sanders.

  • BillW

OK – so Cutler is well ahead on the other poll and we effectively close it out by opening a new thread.

    I get it.

    • BillW

I chose the red zone simply because I knew the secondary would be bad. To me, a red flag comes from something unexpected.

Unless you’re a Chicago weather forecaster and get all hysterical when 2 inches of snow is expected as if we live in Hawaii.

    • you can still vote on the old thread. polls ain’t closed until Keith Traylor sings.

      • MB30SD

Hey ev… how many losses do we need to go 12-4 again?

        • 4 losses, my man. So we’re right on track!

          • MB30SD

            BOOM!

      • SC Dave

Awesome. Unless Keith is a tranny now. NTTAWWT.

    • SC Dave

Won’t go back, but I’m sure once Jefadam see Cutler looking good, they’d do just that.

  • CanadaBear

I voted for Fuller. Amos has shown some spark and I didn’t want to include him in the secondary vote. Fuller has looked like crap since about the middle of last year. I haven’t seen any improvement. Sad.

    • BillW

I almost went there myself. Thinking of red flag as something you didn’t necessarily see coming. Or at least hoped you’d avoid.

While “bust” is too critical, “disappointing” doesn’t go far enough.

    • BerwynBomber

But the strip on Tate was a heckuva play even if it was overruled.

I’m starting to think (as Hub and others here have suggested) is that a) he is not a B&R corner, and b) his game is more naturally suited to be a safety.

      • CanadaBear

I wonder if he has the thump to play safety?

        • Bear Down in Tampa

He’s a good tackler from what I’ve seen. He’s almost definitely a free safety.

      • SC Dave

Don’t let MB see that position changing shit!

        • MB30SD

I actually think it might work for fuller since he played the position in college before they converted him to corner. Worth a shot if he goes to shit this year.

      • Irish Sweetness

(tiptoes into room careful not to wake up MB)
        (whispers)

I’d like to see Fuller tried out at safety ….

        (tiptoes back out of room)

  • FourFeathers

Hilarious really that on a Chicago team so severely devoid of talent that anybody would take a swipe at John Fox and his play calling as an actual real problem. It’s like saying that the biggest problem with the Titanic was that a windshield wiper was broken. John Fox, Adam Gase and Vic Fangio have been huge massive colossal impressive upgrades to the coaching staff of this franchise. We have a deeply capable and impressive coaching staff. To debate that at any level…or the play calling given the overall wretchedness of the roster…is dumbfounding.

Biggest problem? Among very many sad choices? An awful defensive secondary would rank at the top for me.

    • Trac

You may have your feather back kind sir, I agree. Pip pip.

    • beninnorcal

Kind of agree, but we’re .500 headed into the bye if he just let the O play towards the end of the Lions game.

      • BillW

And in the (very early) wild card discussion. Which would have seemed inconceivable after week 3

Doesn’t change how good or bad the team really is, but what a missed opportunity

        There will be other days

    • Joecashflow

Bullshit. Armchair QB’s will always point fingers after a close loss. We have the right! And Btw we ain’t totally devoid of talent!

    • SC Dave

BrokeN, not broke. Other that that, I agree.

      • MB30SD

and don’t finish any of your sentences in a fucking preposition please.

        Where you at indeed!

    • Irish Sweetness

“…that anybody would take a swipe at John Fox and his play calling as an actual real problem..”

It was against Detroit, cost us a few opportunities to win that game.

      • SC Dave

The presumption is other plays would have worked better, which of course we cnt know

  • Sactowns#1

The inability to close out long extended drives has been frustrating and has cost us games. I get that folks see fuller as a problem but the defense must play as a team so I wouldn’t single out a single player vs a systemic issue on offense for which everyone is culpable.

  • So, did Mariotta suffer the same inj that Cutler did in the NFC Championship game?

    • BerwynBomber

      Yes.

C’mon, Yes Guy. Do your job here.

      • Viva

        He’s a slacker.

        • MB30SD

          Yes!

    • AlbertInTucson

That was clearly a cheap shot on Mariotta. Way late AND way low.

  • BerwynBomber

Matt Forte leads the NFL in rushing after six weeks.

Peyton Manning leads the NFL in INTs after six weeks

The Patriots are averaging 36.6 point per game, which (at this time) is almost identical to their torrid scoring pace in 2007.

    • MB30SD

we would have died for that ranking last year.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

So what are the Patriots doing to cheat this year? Putting helium in their balls?

      • MB30SD

        …that’s what she said.

      • SC Dave

I’m sure they have something. One of the few constants in the NFL – Patriots cheating.

    • SC Dave

But remember, Cutler is better than Forte. Just read the gushers that write this blog.

    • Irish Sweetness

What happens when 36 points a game meets 14 points allowed defense?

Jets have a ten point start. Will they?

  • Joecashflow

After last game, must admit, planning for future I am thinking what a loss next year to lose Adam Gase. So….Fox retires, welcome Bear’s new Head Coach Gase! No more too conservative losses..

    • MB30SD

my god, give the man ONE year with his own guys and everything installed with players who’ve done it for a bit. Sheesh!

      • Joecashflow

I can dream can’t I? Not OMG! Won’t happen. But I would rather have Gase for the future than Foxy. Calm down.

        • MB30SD

I am always calm jyo… ALFUCKINGWAYS!

So you’d rather have a dude who’s a good OC, but who’s never been an NFL HC… over a guy with a proven turn around record and success as an HC?

Mmmmmmm, I don’t mind the future plan, but I’d much rather have Fox turn this ship around, get us to the playoffs/big show a couple years in a row, THEN hand the keys over to gase (after he’s been purposefully groomed by fox for a year or two as his successor)

And don’t ever tell me to calm down again, ’cause i’ll killya!

          • Joecashflow

Lol! Ok ok. I will defer to my brother the HS football coach.. (He’s never wrong btw, damn it) that says simply, there is a reason why Denver got rid of Foxy. Don’t get me wrong would love the Fox Gase combination for a couple of years in a row Love it. But I just think Gase is first to go and next year he is a HC. Would I dump Fox? Absolutely not. That’s not how class organizations should work. But Cutler’s grooming is squarely in the hands of Gase and would hate to see that take another step back when Gase leaves.

          • BerwynBomber

But I would think the improved pocket movement would be something Cutty could retain on his own.

          • Johnnywad
          • MB30SD

            yeeeeeeees

      • SC Dave

        So fucking this

    • Pissed Off

Lets hang onto Fox for a while. He can get this team to a super bowl in a few years just like he did in Denver and more impressively Carolina. We need a better defense but If he can get there with delhomme he might be able to do it with cutty if he keeps this up. In addition Fox is just a better hc at this point

  • Joecashflow

Absolutely love Cutlers footwork and accuracy throwing on the run or under duress. He is developing A. Rogers feet, but with Cutler deep dart arm. Serious weapon he has turned into.

    • EnderWiggin

His footwork has gotten better over the years, but not his accuracy. But agree, he is a weapon and probably our best player.

      • willbest

Amusing considering in march people would have been happy with getting a 3rd rounder for him.

        • Joecashflow

Amusing when we had no body of evidence to think otherwise and no team willing to do a decent trade. But now is now, isn’t it. It’s the footwork!

        • EnderWiggin

That depends on how you define “people”. I sure as shit never said that.

          • SC Dave

And that’s nothing compared to all the chumps on this blog that wanted to trade Forte for a 5th rounder.

          • MB30SD

was with you until you compared forte to sweetness. Dave… dave dave dave.

          • SC Dave

Payton was the best player on the team. So is Forte. Hence the comparison

          • MB30SD

I get what you were doing, but it doesn’t make it any less blasphemous!

            Take it back!

          • Irish Sweetness

Again, could anyone who suggested taking a fifth rounder for Forte please stand up …

          • Irish Sweetness

“You simply DO NOT get rid of your best player.”

            Herschel Walker?

        • Irish Sweetness

Could anyone who suggested taking a third rounder for Cutty please stand up …

      • Joecashflow

There have been very few passes this year that “could have been” INTs. Seems he is either throwing it a way or laying it right where it needs to be. Unfortunately too many have bounced off Bennett or his completion % would be better. Don’t understand the usually sure hands of Bennett the last 2 games

        • Irish Sweetness

P Manning is leading the league with 10 interceptions, let the media get into THAT.

      • SC Dave

Matt Forte remains our best player, with Robbie Gould #2. Or actually, maybe reverse that.

        • EnderWiggin

Yeah, Forte and maybe McPhee you could make arguments for.

          • SC Dave

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that the best Bears of the past decade (or more) were Devin Hester and Robbie Gould. The ONLY Bears that a majority of fans, regardless of team loyalty, would have to admit were the best in the league at what they did.

Certainly something that Cutler could never even dream of.

          • BerwynBomber

Urlacher? If you want to pick R. Lewis over him I get it, but Lach’s right there and he might be our only HoFer of the most recent generation.

          • SC Dave

Before I did my edit, I had Brian in my post. But I don’t think fans of most other teams have a clue of how good BU really was. Remember the multi-year “Urlacher is overrated” nonsense*? How many AFC (for example) fans believed that crap?

            * racist all the way, btw. Oh wait, whites cannot be the victims of racism… forget I mentioned it.

          • Irish Sweetness

And Hester could only dream of having Cutler’s loyalty. Dude is dead to me.

        • BerwynBomber

Long and Bennett are also better at their positions than Cutler is at his. League-wide at least.

          • SC Dave

Long for sure, Bennett maybe. Gould without a doubt. Forte very probably.

    • SC Dave

For three halves, you mean. When we get several games worth, maybe I’ll care.

  • The GP

Did anyone hear Longs presser today?

    • EnderWiggin

Dude is a stud and beLongs in a Bear jersey.

      • MB30SD

        hee hee

    • On Da Site, or the score?

    • BillW

My latest favorite Bear and a future hofer

  • willbest

I picked Jeffery’s health because it would be nice to go into next season not having to worry at all about the WR position. We already knew the secondary was going to be patchwork, and even if Kyle Fuller made the transition from zone to man seamlessly it would still be an uphill battle to fix next off season. Further, I think Fuller has demonstrated his bona fides as a solid system corner and thus will have value. Jeffery on the other hand is sitting at the cross roads of a big contract, and the questions are whether he will a) have the motivation to play after getting paid; or b) whether he can stay on the field.

Its really hard to go after play coverage/red zone calling when they are having to scheme around their patchwork O-line and receiving core. Perhaps if we had a couple games with everybody healthy we could accurately judge it. But right now none of us have any idea what they see in practice that leads them to calling certain plays on game day.

    • SC Dave

If you’re worried about WR health, start with White. We spent a #7 draft pick, after all.

  • Joecashflow

Picked Fox conservative game mgmnt because in close games it matters and since we are competiive once again, close matters. Fuller by the way would be a perfect CB if he just wore his helmet backwards. Perfect form then.

    • SC Dave

Cannot agree. This team needs more good players. The old silk purse from a sow’s ear cliche applies.

I like Fuller’s size and hope he is coachable to literally turn him around.

Leave this up as the top thread until we hear from Irish please

    • Irish Sweetness

      Did we get ice cream?

  • BillW

Editorial note. It’s a teaching night. Cubs might get swept. Class ended early so I hit the train station bar early. Will try not to post. . Go Bears. Go Cubs. Here’s to a sweet ’16 to you both!

    • BearDown100393

      Only Game 3 tonight.

    • SC Dave

Cubs blow. Like always. I feel even more sorry for those fans than even idiot Bears fans like me.

      • BillW

They don’t “blow” . They are starting 4 rookies. Probably a first in any lcs. They are far from a one and done team. Had they missed they playoffs everyone would be singing their praises. They make it to the lcs and lose and they are somehow worse?.
Cubs will be in the playoff conversation for the next ten years. I can only dream the same for our beloved Bears

        • BerwynBomber

I’m predisposed to always root against the Cubbies, but yeah, they’re a juggernaut in the making. The only thing is that for all the bats they have, heavy analytics guys like Epstein and Hoyer can sometimes undervalue defense. Lack thereof probably bit them tonight.

In terms of next ten years, we will see. I would certainly say the next five but after that some of these young guys will want paid. No guarantee Ricketts will keep all of them.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

I am with you BB, I can’t root for the Cubbies. this is a crazy Post Season with the number of rookies making major contributions on all teams not just the Cubs. I am curious how it will play out next year, sophomore slumps could hit a lot of teams hard.

          • BerwynBomber

Hah! Glad to know there is another on the thread beside me, HBP.

Al, whom I presume is a Sox fan, was willing to root for the Northsiders this post-season. Traitor. 😉

Anyway, I’m not dancing prematurely on their grave. Not my style. Plus, they are going to be in this position for the next half-decade. Hell, they’re a year early by all accounts.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

            Cards fan here.

      • BillW

        No offense intended

      • The GP

Jesus Dave, you and Eeyore make quite a pair.

        • SC Dave

I’m just trying to help the Cubbies.

      • TheBigCheesy

i thought it was “Cubs suck and the bears blow”?

  • Irish Sweetness

No defensive option in the poll? It’s the playcalling on the defense I’m concerned about e.g. turning Stafford into Dan Fouts.
