Money Where My Mouth Is: Three Picks for Week 12

| November 27th, 2015

Screen Shot 2015-09-21 at 3.01.04 PM

Hit a three-team, money line, Thanksgiving parlay for substantial cash yesterday so feeling good today. This week I’m rolling the dice and picking with my hopes and dreams and not with my mind or wallet concerns. What do the Bears need this weekend? These…

MINNESOTA +1.5 AT ATLANTA

Bears would trail the second wild card by a single game with a Vikings win. So I’m predicting a Vikings win.

PITTSBURGH +3.5 AT SEATTLE

Bears need to catch and pass the Seahawks in the standings due to James Clausen’s embarrassing performance. A loss to the Steelers would put both teams at 5-6. It happens.

INDIANAPOLIS -3 VS. TAMPA BAY

You want a football reason? I don’t have one. Go Colts!

Season Record: 17-14-2

New thread already? I’ve got 1500 comments to catch up on!

Ahhh. What a beautiful morning. The birds are singing, the skies are blue. Got good morning hotel head while the curtains were open overlooking the water. Gonna get some cajun breakfast.

Something diff about today, can’t quite put my finger on it, like somehow good triumphed over evil and the universe is at peace…

    • CanadaBear

      Win-Win!

  • DaMurph

There isnt much that makes me giddy anymore. But two things made me giddy in the last month……seeing MB again in San Diego………….and DA BEARS beating the fucking Packers on Thanksgiving on Brett Favres night! Are you fucking kidding me? Its been a great November!!!!!

    • Trac

Jeez murph, tone it down on the mb love. It’s embarrassing. Hahaha

      • MB30SD

        Love that man

      • DaMurph

Dang Trac, you didnt say anything when I took the razzing for being excited about meeting up with you. Hint of jealousy? Still love ya brother! Hahaha

        • MB30SD

He’s tooootally jealous of me. Biitch!

          • Trac

            Hahahaha.

          • MB30SD

Think you butt dialed my maings

          • Trac

            Jess.

        • Trac

          Hahaha. Yeeaah….

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd 4ever85! (AKA, ButchDeadLift)

I almost don’t give a fuck what happens the rest of the season. This is like the miracle on ice. Drop the mike.
    That being said…playoffs?

    • SC Dave

      Why the hell not?

  • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd 4ever85! (AKA, ButchDeadLift)

What a huge diff from last yr. The play that epitomized this was when Prosinski had not one, but TWO, fat linemen barreling down on him w Starks behind him .

He sorta jukes both of them, slides in and makes the fucking tackle.

    Prosinski.

Some porish mechanic we got off the scrap heap.

Last yr Starks could’ve moonwalked in w how they were coached.

    • That Guy

Pace is picking up some great talent for the system we’re creating.

Fangio is coaching up the defense beautifully to get maximum out of each player.

And Fox, who should get the most credit, has created an environment where the players believe they can succeed. Last year, Prosinski (or whoever) probably would have (a) given up on the play, or (b) panicked. This year, the players are focused and have a mindset that they can be successful.

This team is going to do good things.

      • Viva

I guess sometimes it is ok to be that guy.

    • The GP

Slipping both blocks and getting Starks down was POTG for me

      • Viva

Yeah – my brother-in-law said the same thing about that play.

      • SC Dave

The strip of Lacey was not too bad either.

  • BillW

As others did I want to give credit to cheesy for being a good sport and going on the game thread at the end

And yes some of the comments were brutal

Glad I wasn’t on it. I also had deja vu wondering how the game could slip away

But 4th quarter choker Rodgers came through again

Loved the int. Cutler throws those and it’s his fault (or so his detractors say) . Rodgers? Receivers fault. Got to point that out to a packer fan.

Can’t say anymore that hasn’t been said. 10 wins not out of the question. Should be favorites here on out

    • willbest

Nah. Not in Minny, and probably not even in Tampa the way the Bucs have been improving.

    • AlbertInTucson

Looked to me on the replay from the behind the LOS that Porter had that route scoped and would have beaten Adams to the ball anyway.

  • That Guy

On the Forte/Langford thing. Also on the Jeffery thing.

Our team has like a billion dollars in cap space next season (well, its projected at over $60M, which might as well be a billion). There is no reason we can’t pay Kyle Long, Alshon Jeffery and any other graduating rookies on the team and still have plenty of extra cap space to sign Forte to a “retire as a Bear” type contract.

Forte’s agent has a history of being overaggressive negotiating contracts, so that might lead him elsewhere. But if he wants to stay, the team has plenty of cash available to keep him.

Putting it in perspective. The big players in free agency usually have $30M to play with. If we figure Jeffery costs $12M (not top money, but pretty close), Long costs $8M and other guys get $4M, that means we’ve still got $6-8M to give Forte a be in the “big players” category.

    • willbest

If Forte wants more than 4 mil you let him walk. He missed 3 games this year, and he hasn’t been explosive in a couple years. Plus if you want to keep Porter its not going to be on a min vet deal like it is this year. Probably looking at $3-4 mil cap hit for him.

      • SC Dave

It would be nice if Matt would take somewhere in the $3.5M range, even if the team has to go three years on it. Maybe 3 years for $11M?

I think the guy has some gas in the tank, although he has to know he won’t be the starter too much longer. I could see him adding lots of value as RB2 and depending on Royal, #1 or #2 at the slot.

        • Bender McLugh

This. I think Matty would love this role too

      • http://www.upitpuppet.com/ evantonio

just as long as the bears don’t get tricked into giving porter one of those tim jennings contracts

  • willbest

I love how after a win in GB the majority of Biggs 10 things column is about guys just waiting by the phone hoping to get their shot. Nice to get the backstory on Fales. Both 49ners & Ravens interested in him. Stays with the Bears and he is now the front runner for backup QB in 2016

  • willbest

Seattle isn’t great, but the Steelers offense with a healthy big ben is.

    • Bender McLugh

      Healthy enough anyway

  • burntorangenavyblue

I was tempted to watch the game replay on nfl network for the sheer joy of our beloved winning, but when your wife’s side of the family is filipino, a food -induced coma is a guarantee….passed out and slept like a baby.

    • Viva

I envy you. If I tried to sleep with my in-laws in the house she would find a way to make me miserable.

      • MB30SD

This thanksgiving I’m thankful I don’t have in laws anymore my brother.

  • CanadaBear

I posted a lot of this in the dead thread (duh). It’s amazing to me to see Prosinski, Anderson, Callahan and other UFA’s come in here and within a couple of weeks of playing time, contributing. Pace has done a nice job so far and the coaching staff has done the rest. For the first time in years I’m actually hopeful for the future. The short clip of Fox celebrating with the players last night was awesome!

    • The GP

Don’t forget about Unrein and special teamers like Reynolds.

This team’s use of the waiver wire and free agency has been exceptional.

      • CanadaBear

Totally agree and having them get coached up puts a smile on my face!

        • DaMurph

The coaching up is KEY. For years Ive been saying our players dont get better out of college. No improvement, they just go stale after we get them. Now they are being taught, coached up and directed. John Fox showed great joy and emotion at the end of that game, one of the things thats been lacking. These guys will go to war for this coaching staff!

          • CanadaBear

Totally agree. I liked Lovie but other than their very best players, it didn’t seem like any others progressed. They regressed under Nessman. That clip of Fox celebrating with the players last night made me happier than I could have ever imagined.

          • SC Dave

So true. The Bears have never really coached guys up, at least on offense.

  • BillW

Revisiting a prior question. Is Gase making Cutler look good or vice versa?.

Happy doesn’t begin to describe how I feel over the win. But if one of the 4 passes at the end of the game scored, would we really be blaming a defense with callawho and poszeeski?

    • CanadaBear

I don’t know Bill. For the first time in forever I didn’t think it was a foregone conclusion the Bears would lose at the end. Even if they had, i would have given props to the same players. They were making impact plays. Even CD played pretty well.

      • BillW

That’s what I mean. Those guys played well. Had they given up a td to Rodgers in one of 4 plays from the 8 they still would have played a great game. And we’d be saying 17 wasn’t enough

Fangio may have leaped over Gase in hc discussion

        • Bender McLugh

Shhhhhhhhh……they stay if we don’t talk about them leaving

    • willbest

If the Bears were okay in the red zone I would say Gase no question. As it is, I think its much more of a symbiotic relationship. Cutler has always had the talent, he is just finding himself in a position to succeed now more than at any point in his career.

    • Shady

Fox helps Gase help Cutler help the offense.

  • AlbertInTucson

I thought they were toast when it was 1st and goal with plenty of time to run 4 plays. Like the football gods had planned it.

Rodgers with a great comeback win, even though he had one of his crappiest nights as a passer, and saves Breve Favre night.

Too bad nobody told Fangio’s boys how it was supposed to end.

  • PICKLES PICKLES PICKLES

So, think of this: how many NFL quarterbacks started a game in a season, and then were cut by their team that same season due to non-disciplinary reasons?

    • willbest

Both San Fran and Ravens were interested in Fales. Clausen is not the future backup to the Bears. Fales might be. It was a simple decision for the Bears who are in sudden death mode the rest of the season. Incidentally, Clausen has been reunited with Dr. Death, and would have been claimed by the Broncos, so he landed on his feet and will be a backup somewhere next year.

      • PICKLES PICKLES PICKLES

So my point is just how bad is Clausen? Pretty fucking bad to be cut mid-season. Pretty fucking bad for a 2nd year 6th-round pick to be preferable.

        • Scharfinator

          Yup, glad we jettisoned him.

  • Shady

Sam Shields looked to break up a pass to Jeffery in the endzone late in the game. I wonder if he didn’t get a finger on it would it have been a TD? I’d like to think so. Jeffery also came close to another TD earlier in the game as well. Pey diat mee yan heez mah knee.

    • MB30SD

Shields got his hand on it and deflected it away. I think alshon would have had it. At least I like to think so

      • Shady

        Let’s go Cletus.

        • MB30SD

Would love to. My brother is here with my niece and all our kids are watching elf

          • Shady

            I’ll be owns later.

          • MB30SD

Coolio. My kids go down at 8PST, I’ll be on after. You love killing me softly. Smh

  • Shady

Call it whatever you want, but that little bubble/smoke/wr screen worked like a charm last night. The Bears must have averaged like 10 yards on that bad boy. Capers get blitz happy against Cutler (predictably) and they made him pay for it. Finally!

  • Shady

Snickers, Snickers, Snickers… Green nineteeeeeeen… Green nineteen set…

    http://screengrabber.deadspin.com/ah-fuck-1744851341

    • AlbertInTucson

      Instant classic.

    • SC Dave

It doesn’t get old, does it?

    • Scharfinator

The commentary was pretty funny too. Michaels said there was an “exclamation point” after the bobbled snap and they both laughed about it.

    • CanadaBear

It seemed to me the on field mics were turned up too loud all night. Finally bit ’em in the ass.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

or it could be the crowd was in stunned silence because they were losing to DA BEARS!!!!

  • Jokey

Why do we get gashed by screen passes over and over? And why is Mariani still returning punts?

    • EnderWiggin

Did you see the kickoff he got in the way on? Through his hands (hands were over his head!!!) and off his helmet. Luckily, whoever was behind his saved us all some embarrassment.

      • CanadaBear

Mariani was the up man in the KO alignment and drifted back. He should not be on the field for KO’s.

  • willbest

If Falcons and Seahawks lose Sunday, I am going to start sipping the playoff koolaid, and if the Packers lose to the Lions on Thursday its gonna rain koolaid

    • Irish Sweetness

The Falcons are not good right now, and Pittsburgh are going to show Seattle what an offense looks like.

      • Bender McLugh

Pitts is no joke, still don’t think they get past Pats

  • Trac

It’s pretty funny how many of us are escared we’ll lose Fangio or Gase. Big time indicator on how long it’s been since we had an all pro coaching staff. Last time? Yup, 1985. Shiver me timber maties, I’m excited about this team. Just sayin.

    • beninnorcal

Would be nice if they’d both stay.

    • SC Dave

We did not have an ‘all pro’ staff in 1985. We had Ditka

      • EnderWiggin

        Ryan was pretty capable too.

      • Trac

That was the last time we had a great GM, a dynamic driven workaholic HC, and a DC that made the 85 D what it was. You crazy.

        • Irish Sweetness

In retrospect, Samurai was what made the D what it was in the Eighties. He called every alignment and adjustment. If Shea mcClellin had been calling the signals …

          • Trac

Take away the architect and all you have is a mud hut Irish.

  • AlbertInTucson

“Don’t wanna hear it. Packers have gotten away with illegal picks for years.”

    Blogfather’s response to..

“Packers coach Mike McCarthy is upset with an OPI penalty on James Jones that wiped out a TD”-
    – K. Seifert ESPN.

    Well, wah, wah.

Obvious question: “Want some (more) cheese with that whine, Mike?”

The Bears had ZERO, count’em, ZEE-RO penalties the previous week but this week in Packerville they’re nailed for a DOZEN and your boys get all of 3 and you have the unmitigated gall to bitch about it?

Jones extended his arms. CLEAR, OPI.

The tripping call on Slausen was ridiculous as was the PI on Amos.

And, BTW, I think Fat Boy Lacy turned that ball loose before it crossed the goal line.

    So, shaddap, you big baby!

    • Shady

Lacy DEFINITELY tossed that ball away before it crossed.

      • BillW

Read an article somewhere that said they took a long look at it fro that reason and it was not conclusive. I was in the car driving home at the time and missed it Didn’t hear about it except on the blog and then looked it up.

The league needs cameras at the goal lines – both sides. And not on/in the pylon, but on the sidelines up about 5-6 feet.

    • willbest

Coaches probably don’t watch the Commercial broadcast, but when the more or less neutral third party commentators get to hemming and hawing not once but a number of times on penalties in your favor its probably best to keep your pie hole shut.

      • http://www.dabearsbeat.com/ Johnathan Wood

        “more of less neutral commentators.”

        I wish.

        • CanadaBear

I don’t hold Michaels or Collinsworth responsible for the Favre lovefest the other night. Once the fudgies scheduled the celebration, I think it was NBC that turned it into the lovefest. There’s no doubt in my mind that NBC told the announcers to lay it on thick and the video/audio guys would do the rest. It’s like every game the announcers have some narrative to push and they do that no matter what transpires on the field. If the announcers don’t play along they might be looking for another job. Not to mention, Favre is the ultimate media friendly player. All the media guys seem to love him. Why not, he basically does their job for them.

          • BillW

I agree. They have coach interviews and production meetings sort of laying out talking points. The national crew has little time to get to know the progress of the team throughout the season. Especially the Thanksgiving game: Sunday-Thursday- Sunday. Three game in 8 days.

So making it Favre night sort of made it easier on them.

And then yes, there is always some narrative. Packers supposedly back on track and the Bears improving but probably not going to beat GB in GB.

And while it’s over and we can all celebrate – 4 shots from the 8 still makes me nervous thinking about it. I was hoping for another “Aw fuck!” And I was actually expecting a Packer friendly flag in the end zone with the 2 no names we had playing there. The result was actually quite surprising on many levels. The Bears probably earned some respect from the officials too.

  • AlbertInTucson

James Jones didn’t “drop” that pass in the end zone any more than Jeffrey dropped his. Tracy Porter reached in an got a piece of it.

  • Irish Sweetness

    (33-17)

Twofertwo on Thanksgiving. Wussed out on backing Detroit.

BUF +6 @KC Tyrod’s numbers are significantly better than a certain Jay Cutler’s.

    TB +3 @IND Bucs no joke, y’all.

PIT +3.5 @SEA Money for old rope as they say.

    • AlbertInTucson

Nick Foles will get the start vs Cincy.

  • Irish Sweetness

I’m confused on the kudos to Fangio thing. The defense plays like shit with Sutton, Rolle, McMannis and Ball … we switch in Gaston, Porter, Callahan and Prosinski.. and the passing defense improves.

We put in better players that all affect the passing game … and Fangio gets the credit? His run defense scheme sucks / or there’s 7 guys there that can’t do it. Both are on Fangio.

    • Big Mike

Players he coached up… His front line is missing people that were counted on.

    • CanadaBear

Odd way to look at it. How ’bout there might be 2-3 players on D that would start for another NFL that has the same or better record. Look at the points allowed. Do you remember the last two years at all?

    • willbest

The first half of the season opponent scores were inflated by the Cutler injury, Cutler pick-6, and ST TD. So its a bit of a stretch to say its the players. Save for the Lions game when there was really no excuse, the D has been rather good at keeping people out of the end zone. What it hasn’t been doing is changing field position or scoring outright.
Though what we have finally started seeing is the Bears D start to exploit opponents weaknesses, and to me that smacks of first we learn the scheme to prevent bad things, now we learn how to attack too.

    • BillW

Gave up 6 TDs in the last five games. Gave up that many in the first half of the GB game last year.

      FANGIO!

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

WE FUCKING BEAT GB ON FAVRE NIGHT IN GB ON THANKSGIVING!!! WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR!!! I AM STILL SO PUMPED ABOUT IT!!!!

  • RenoBear

So finally getting a chance to re-watch the game. On Wilson ‘s TD that was overturned w :30 left in the half (correctly) they had s PERFECT angle to see it. On Fat Ass Lacy’s arrogant ball flip as he’s going in the end zone in the 1st quarter (same end zone, mind you) they get crappy angle from behind him/over him a few yards back. Gimme a fuckin break. Fuck you Fudgies I’m so fucking ecstatic we smoked your bitch ass at your little homecoming game even with the refs doing everything they fucking could to help you out!!! Damn I’m still on cloud nine thinking about it. Here’s the thing… We are moving in the right direction, the Fudgies are NOT. We are getting younger at key positions. They are NOT. The tide will turn motherfuckers, and I can’t wait to see it. BEAR DOWN! Fuck I’m kinda hammered

    • Big Mike

Don’t forget the mystery defensive holding. Just before their TD. The contact was less than a breeze.

  • BearDown100393

We beat the Packers in Green Bay. On Thanksgiving. On Favre Night. Nothing else matters right now.

    • Big Mike

Yes we did. I kept checking yesterday to see if some how the the league had overturned it, because you know Aaron Rodgers …

      • The GP

        Discount doublecheck?

  • The GP

      • Trac

What kinda weed was he smoking Canada? Hmm? Was it white weed? Smh.

        • CanadaBear

Smoking weed makes you kill people?

          • MB30SD

heeeell yeeees. And looking at the porn canada. Drinkin’ is fine in texas, but the weed’ll make ya kill people. hahaha

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

oh crap porn and weed make you kill. i am due a massive killing spree then. i better turn myself in.

          • Trac

Let me step it down for you canada. Weed has as much to do with the crazy sob opening fire on innocent people as him being white does.

          • CanadaBear

Couldn’t possibly disagree more with you on that subject.

          • Trac

So people with white skin are more are more dangerous because of their skin color?

      • willbest

Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve a political end. Crazy implies a mental derangement or insanity. Crazy fucker and terrorist are therefore mutually exclusive.
The guy in the waffle house is clearly crazy, the waitress was stopping him from doing what he wanted to do. It wasn’t part of a larger political agenda to overturn the modern smoking laws.
We don’t know what the guy and the PP deal was yet. Police haven’t released a motive.

        • CanadaBear

Parse it any way you want.

          • willbest

Its important. People keep shouting -ism and anything that makes them have badfeelz and now they are pretty much meaningless.

Also, the response to terrorism should be different to crazies.

        • Irish Sweetness

We were talking about something similar last week in work and Hitler came up. Hitler was crazy, but not stupid. The chances that he planned his own escape are high. Mengele did it. Why not the #1?

Aside: I was getting a checkup last week and the doctor had lived in Munich as it turned out, so had I. We got onto the subject of Dachau, which we had both visited, and we talked about that. He said that Mengele had very detailed notes which contained many things which could advance our medical knowledge, but that it was illegal to reference his work i.e. there is information that was retrieved which could help us now, but it’s forbidden.

That’s an interesting dilemma. If information exists which could be used to help many kinds of disorders/conditions, but it was discovered under unethical circumstances … should it be disregarded? Society has said ‘Yes’.

          • willbest

Hitler was not crazy. He was evil. Crazy people don’t have an agenda. Crazy people don’t enlist a nation to serve agendas. Crazy people certainly don’t have dozens of high IQ coconspirators.
As for Mengele’s research. I suppose the distinction in my mind was the science used to obtain the information unethical. Or is it just because Mengele did a bunch of unrelated evil things.
You aren’t going to be able to make that decision with any level of coherence if you try and judge the person and not the work. How much on the evil on the good vs. evil scale must a person be before their entire work is discarded. What if thoughts change about how evil they are? For example, experimenting on animals is no big deal now, but there is a bunch of nature children trying to change that. If they come to power should we discard half the medical research out there?

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

so as long as someone has an agenda they can’t be crazy. Also if you can convince smart people to go along with your ideas/crazy, you can’t be crazy. to be honest you have to be crazy to actually believe that load of crap.

          • willbest

You want to see Hitler as crazy, because he is historically close to you and you don’t want to believe that sane human being would be capable of that. That somehow we have evolved to be better. Except history is full of empires that expanded through conquest, slaughtering pillaging and raping, etc. So to assert that Hitler is crazy is to say the entire planet throughout history has been mad.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

not at all. i am saying the mass public is a bunch of sheep, and sociopaths can easily play on emotions and thoughts of weak willed people. and history is is full of empires that were led by sociopaths.

          • willbest

Now you are just being dishonest, so I am done with this. Sociopath is not the same thing as crazy.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

          • Irish Sweetness

This may be true. Everybody is crazy, to somebody else. So who’s crazy?

            (cue Suicidal Tendencies)

      • DaMurph

Im sure you guys have some mass killers up there, theres just better places to hide the victims! Hahaha

        • CanadaBear

Yeah, the guy in the Vancouver area killed close to 50 women in the sex trade business before he got caught. He was killing people on the margins of society and nobody looked into it for a long time. Sad stuff. Anybody that thinks the PP killer used that location randomly is being naive.

          • willbest

Doesn’t have to be random. But if his target was the PP and its staff he was wildly unsuccessful despite the opportunity afforded him. Perhaps it was personal (they performed an abortion on his under aged daughter). Perhaps he was stalking an individual person. Who knows at this point.

Where has the regard for human life gone? This stuff is just unexplainable.

      • willbest

Gone? When in history has there been an overall regard for human life?

        • Johnnywad

Certainly in my lifetime. I’m 42. In my youth, I don’t remember a single mass school shooting, theater rampage, didn’t even know the concept of a suicide bombing terrorist, the idea of flying a plane into the World Trade Center was unfathomable until it happened. Yes, the world is historically violent. Got it. But now, people shoot waitresses in the head for asking them not to smoke in the Waffle House. Is that the world you remember from 30 years ago?

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

things are not reported as they are today. no 24 hour news stations, no internet back then. you could not pull out your phone anywhere and read all the craziness happening.

          • Johnnywad

True. But we all watched the nightly news and read the newspaper. I’m fairly certain all of those events would have made their way to a major network in 1985.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

true but a guy shooting a waitress most likely would not be reported nationally. Then you have to realize most people tend to remember the better times.

          • Johnnywad

Probably true on both counts. World’s still going to hell in a hand basket.

          • Irish Sweetness

We’ve come a long way since the dark ages. But it’s hard to avoid violence when it’s part of human/animal nature.

          • willbest

The most prolific time for serial killing was in the late 60s to early 80s. Not a whole lot of serial killing going on today. Chalk it up to better police detective work or perhaps just a change in attitude. Less patience among the insane. Looking for the shock and awe rather than the slow burn Son of Sam style. And the murder rate today (even with all these school shootings) is under 5 per 100k which is less than half what it was throughout the 70s and 80s.

As for 9/11 kind of got the heads up from the 1993 WTC bombing. And you need to expand that to a more global perspective. Wars/coups/ ethnic cleansing/oppressive dictatorships have been going on pretty much every continent in the last 40 years as well.

          • Johnnywad

I think we’re generally talking about different things. You’re referencing overall numbers and I get that. Many of those are as you said, things that have and will always go on.

I guess I’m more or less pointing to the fact that this guy will shoot and kill a woman over a cigarette. Or that the school shooters will kill a dozen people for the hell of it. Or that people are so sick, they’ll post an ad on Craigslist with used baby clothes for sale, just so they can stab a pregnant woman in the gut.

Serial killers, drug wars, gang violence, war in general……that’s never going to change. But the trend toward people just saying fuck it, and blowing a waitress’s head off over a cigarette, that’s very alarming. Those types of crimes weren’t committed over the last forty years with any regularity. At least not in my world. Now, you read that article, mutter WTF?, and move on. No big deal. Times are definitely different.

          • willbest

I guess I don’t see how there wasn’t a lot of “fuck it” killings when the murder rate was twice as high as it is today. As if back in the 70s and 80s it was all “understandable” violence. Killing a cheating spouse, gang turf wars, murder in the course of another felony, etc.

Then again back then we had a lot of institutions to house the crazy people in. So perhaps that is the reason you are seeing more nutter murders these days than previously.

          • Irish Sweetness

How do we know there aren’t more serial killers today? Their MOs are probably getting better. NCIS. Dexter. There’s an obsession with forensic shows. Just because they’re not being caught and paraded on TV doesn’t mean they’re not out there. As the population increases, so do they.

90,000 people are missing at any one time in the USA. Only 50,000 of those are adults. Our alien over-lords can’t be taking them all ….. so who is?

          • willbest

Well my point is that they get caught sooner due to forensics and the modern day surveillance state. They don’t have the time to run up double digit body counts.
What is also of interesting is crazies with guns shooting up schools took a vacation in the late 60s to mid 80s. If you look on the wiki list every school involved incident in this time was police quelling rights, or people in private disputes. Then in the 1989 mass shootings pop back into fashion and you get the crazy with the gun every few years. So why the 25 year absence?

          • Irish Sweetness

I remember being afraid of nuclear war because the boob tube was preparing us for it with ‘What to do in the event …’ programs. I remember guerilla warfare on the Irish and British mainland with bombs going off and no end in sight. But all of that is gone.

Turn off your TV. That’s the worst culprit. It’s like Bill Hicks said, you see the all the worst on TV because that’s what they peddle for news. Then you look outside your window, and it’s just birds singing, or whatever.

I feel sorry for Stephen King. I think he feels he created the whole school massacre thing. He wrote a story called ‘Rage’ around ’78 I think, about a kid who walks into his classroom with a gun. KIng asked for it to be taken out of print (it appeared in the Bachman books, but not now). He said that such books influenced people to do bad things and he wanted no part of it.

      I killed a man from Reno…

I read one of the comments from someone who personally knew him, and she relayed that he was braindamaged from a car accident.

So my question: how the fuck does a brain damaged fucktard buy/able to keep a gun?

  • Johnnywad

Reno mentioned something below I’ve been thinking about the last three weeks or so. Youth. Suddenly, the Bears are far younger than they’ve been in quite some time. There is youth all over the field as the roster is currently constructed. Aside from the obvious coaching upgrade, the fact that a roster largely full of no names, rookies and UDFA’s is competitive week in and week out, is a pretty good indication of Pace’s ability to find quality ball players.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

one thing i was worried about Pace was that due to his age and the fact that he spent his entire career in one organization, was his ability to pull together a complete staff, coaching is one thing but getting the right people in the scouting department was going to be key. He was able to get a couple guys from the Broncos, no doubt Fox had some influence on that, and a couple from the Ravens in the scouting department. This next Draft will really show if Pace has put in a system to draft the right players. So far i have liked what he has done.

I used to get NFL Rewind as part of my season ticket holder package. Needless to say, I used it zero times last year.

This year, no longer part of the deal. Unless I missed an email from the Bears. I contacted them to be sure but I’m not paying whatever the partial season price is (it’s $100 for a full year)

I wish I would have recorded the game.

There are also ones that record in real time. This is only 45 minutes. Just the plays. No huddling etc and of course no commercials. Only replays are tds and penalties. Not the all 22 and stuff but good

Tribune is reporting that the game was the highest rated Thanksgiving night game since they started that about 2006.

But then they are also reporting it was watched by 57 million people in Chicago and 72 million in Milwaukee. Not making that up. That’s not even wrong by a decimal point (state of Wisconsin has only 6 million people total.)

    • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

That’s hilarious. Who knew? Roughly one third of all Americans live in Illinois and Wisconsin . And every single one of them watched the game.

      • BillW

Been busy but I just wanted to say how sweet victory is. What a game!!! Best thanksgiving ever.! Fuck yeah life is good right now. I love this team and I’m loving new-Jay. The coaching staff continues to impress and I love the moxy shown by the whole team! I think some of that moxy, by the way, needs to be attributed to Kyle Long becoming a veteran leader on this team. That guy just sweats moxy.

And whoever first posted the locker room clip, that shit was pure gold, so thank you.

    Good times. Good times.

  • BillW

Just read about 50 comments on an article in the Milwaukee Journal. The fans there sound much like the fans on the Tribune comments sections. But I’m really surprised at how many think McCarthy and Thompson have to go.

One fan bought up a point many of us do – with 2 of the best QBs ever, they each only have one SB.

Even Bob McGinn, a good writer from what I have seen, is very brutal on the Pack in his film review. And he touched on a point I would have made stronger – why did they abandoned the run when we clearly could not handle it? He seemed to be implying – like I believe – that the Packers feel almost obligated to try to win games passing rather than running.

    • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

That philosophy goes all the way back to Holmgren. He freely admits that he used only run the ball begrudgingly.

Why did this one get the prize?

I got one pushing hard for me to get exclusive with her. Basically told her, I really like hanging out with you, but that ain’t gonna happen soon.

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd 4ever85! (AKA, ButchDeadLift)

actually, it’s a two horse race with some side dishes (yes, mixed metaphors).

this is the nice one. the other is the “i like being choked while wearing short-skirts, fishnets and stilletos 34-C-cup” one.

            It’s a close race.

          • MB30SD

I have 3 regs… like hanging with all of them. One’s 5’9″ Scandinavian, one’s a workout instructor with abs, the other one is the mixed one… she’s pushing.

But man, I can’t get away from fresh. Need the fresh

          • http://t.co/MsJnMxjrmd 4ever85! (AKA, ButchDeadLift)

haha, I know what you mean. But I sorta like my rotation right now. I got naughty and nice, and the side dishes are “drunken 3am bj/booty call” and “23yr old” everything new and firm charm.

That kinky girl actually drunk called me once at like 3am and started asking me how many other girls I fuck, laying the line, “I don’t care. I’ll tell you if you ask” (boys, NEVER fall for that). I just responded, “I’ DON’T want to know, and I don’t have to answer.”

I think she’s beginning to like me and maybe wanting to become exclusive, but she’d never touch on the subject sober. She just turned 30, so maybe she was going through that woman “I just turned 30 I’m gonna die alone” crisis.

Or maybe she just can’t get enough of the Butch lol

I got a feeling the nice one will eventually want that exclusivity from me.

She’s a business woman, and they tend to be pretty upfront about their “goals” and “objectives” and “where this is going” stuff, but I’m hoping that convo doesn’t come up for another few months cuz I’m nowhere near ready to settle down for anyone, and to her credit, she realizes it.

          • MB30SD

It always comes maings. 3 months max. I like my rotation too. The abs juuust came back after bailing out about 2 months ago because I would go surfing with her and her kids or take her on a vacation. The scandic JUST got a divorce and is in the same boat as me, so I think she’s safe. The mix wanted to lock it down after 3 weeks and I had to lay it down, she’s backed off a bit but still drops snide little comments here and there…. ‘did you at least change the sheets for me tonight ‘. Smh. (No)
