Bears Trade Jared Allen to Panthers for 6th Round Pick

| September 28th, 2015

jared

Three Thoughts

  • Jared Allen seemed to make significant progress at a new position this summer but looked overwhelmed in his first three real games. (This once again reiterates the point that preseason football is utterly meaningless.) Per various beats, Allen was nowhere to be found in the locker room after the Bears loss to the Seahawks. He clearly didn’t want to finish his career playing the wrong position.
  • Short-term this moves allows Lamarr Houston back onto the field. And Houston fits this defense.
  • Long-term the Bears need to be putting players on the field in 2015 who they believe will be part of the organization in 2016 and beyond. If the Cowboys or anybody else is interested in Matt Forte, and the Bears don’t plan to re-sign Forte, the deal should get done.

Wonder why they weren’t more interested in Young. Then again, Pace probably would have wanted a 4th rounder for him.

  • FourFeathers

I hope Pace and Fox are prepared to make more dumps. Next up for me would be Theo Ratliff because he may bring us a 4th or 5th rounder. He’s not going to be the future and we face a massive rebuilding. So get what you can get for these guys right now.

    • willbest

You aren’t going to get anything for Ratliff. He is on the last year of his contract, he is old, and he doesn’t stay on the field. Plus we are thin on the line and Eddie can learn from him.

      • FourFeathers

So it begs the question, if somebody called up Pace and offered up a 2nd rounder for Matt Forte then does he do it. I do it in a nanosecond. We need draft picks and a 30 year old high mileage Forte might be the best player on the roster, but he isn’t going to be part of the future in Chicago. So trade him now. Trouble is I doubt anybody gives up more than a 4th rounder.

        • willbest

The best value I could possibly see for Forte, is Denver 4 weeks from now if CJ Anderson and the backup both go out for the season. At which point they would be needing a guy who is going to take the load off Peyton in their last playoff push before the team falls apart. And even then, I doubt you get a 3rd for him (which is a late round 3rd)

    • Irish Sweetness

Yup. Trade/release Rat and we can finally get Terry on the field. Let that 8-ball roll.

  • Sactowns#1

For all the tools saying “trade Forte” (including Jeff) just let this sink in. A decent yet aged player in a position where good players are a lot harder to find than a RB garners a 6th round pick. What will you get for Forte? A 4th? Pffffff

    • Scharfinator

      A fair point.

    • Trac

Gore just kept going like the energized bunny in SF. At least it seemed that way. Maybe Forte can do the same as long as he doesn’t cry for too much money.

      • BearDown100393

Matt deserves every dollar he can earn. Maybe more.

        • willbest

Watching what other aged backs were making this year, he is probably sad he wasn’t on the market

        • Trac

Salary cap woes my man. Gotta have a salary that allows us to spread it around.

    • Irish Sweetness

Exactly. He’s worth more to us on the team. The time to trade him was years ago (if one wanted to rebuild).

  • AlbertInTucson

An $11M Enema to cleanse another remnant of the Phil Emery regime.

  • AlbertInTucson

Ndamakong Suh seems to be doing a really outstanding Albert Haynesworth impersonation.

“I got my money, now I’m just doin’ whatever the hell I feel like doin’!”

    • willbest

He has had his money from day one though. The benefits of being drafted #1 before the new CBA

      • AlbertInTucson

Not the kind of money he got from the Fish.

They’re all working for that 2nd contract.

Haynesworth checked out after the Redskins lined his pockets.

        • willbest

Lions paid him 70ish million over 5 years. Fins gave him 60 million guaranteed.

          • Irish Sweetness

            (contemplates suicide)

130 million dollars would go a long way over here ….

  • Sactowns#1

BTW- isn’t Allen the only guy on the team with an INT?

  • MB30SD

I’m alllll for stockpiling picks. We’re going to bad need it in the coming years… but does a 6th get us.

Hey pace, wrong end of the draft dude. Not that I give a shit about allen being here, just not at all excited about a 6th. I guess it’s better than just cutting him fo nothing.

    • i mean. do you think he could’ve gotten anything more than that?

      • MB30SD

not at all… again, if they were just going to shitcan him anyway, hallelujah. I just haven’t seen a 6th mean anything in a while.

        • willbest

          Not since Brady?

          • MB30SD

Oh wow, you mean we can get a brady with that 6th?!!??!

You mean that happens all the time in the NFL? Awesome! thanks man, you might want to look into being an NFL GM yos! ; )

          • willbest

            Antonio Brown?

          • MB30SD

So two in, what, 15 years? You’re not convincing me dude.

Like I said, if they were just going to release him, great, I’ll take a 6th. We just need more picks at the front, not the back, of the draft is alls.

          • willbest

Andre Ellington, Greg Hardy, Alfred Morris, there are others. Now how much more likely you are to hit in the 6th than say in undrafted FA, I have no idea.

          • MB30SD

this is a pointless discussion (which seems to be happening more and more here lately… and sadly), but to finish this out, why don’t you give me 6th round starters over the last 10 years as a %. that’s the better number to look at, not throwing out 5 outliers.

          • willbest

Probably because I don’t have access to the stats database, and you didn’t ask for anything like that anyway. But also because I suppose such things would depend on the quality of your scouting department and GM. In terms of Bears virtually none of it last decade’s picks have paned out as given by the fact that they are either Matt Forte, or on rookie contracts.
But for what its worth Toyo Fabuluje was Pace’s first 6th rounder, and well he isn’t even the first backup on the O-line

          • The GP

We paid Jared $11m so we could meet his guarantee.

The Panthers pick him up for $825k and will get a rusher for the rest of the year in a 4-3 as a LDE. And they use that near-turf shit, so he can probably do SOMETHING.

The Panthers picked up what they needed for a 6th. And a monster bargain.

If I’m Pace, and I’m eating what amounts to ALL of the money, save for less than $1M, I ask for a 4th.

It’s not ABOUT what is Allen worth in a straight trade. It’s about eating ALL his salary and giving him away.

          • Irish Sweetness

This is more like it. Dude’s a 4-3 end, and the Panthers did well. For us, he’s not so good.

          • Irish Sweetness

His position on the roster doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great pick. He was a great pick. If people watched pre-season games sober and watched all of his snaps, this would be apparent.

          • The GP

MB is so sexy when he uses words like “Outliers”.

No wonder he’s a hit with the ladies.

          • Irish Sweetness

Don’t even need a pick to get Arian Foster ….

        • TheBigCheesy

What are you talking about? Ryan Pace can use that 6th round pick next year to trade for a backup tight-end that another team just picked up off the street.

          • The GP

I’d tell you to quit your fucking trolling save for the fact you have a point.

          • TheBigCheesy

You can still have a point while trolling.

And more importantly, you can still admonish a troll for being a troll even if he’s making sense.

        • wasn’t tom brady a six? so, ya know, there’s that.

      • Irish Sweetness

        Not with his over-blown salary.

        • we’re covering 11 million of it. oof.

    • BearDown100393

Awareness is worth a 6th. Awareness plus a mullet maybe a 4th. Damn that barber.

    • Irish Sweetness

A 6th got us Tayo, and I’m in a very small boat liking him it seems. And Timu. Timu is better than McClellin, surely.

      • MB30SD

        Sigh

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

ask Angelo how he treasures to pick up those lowers…

  • TheBigCheesy

    Jared Allen for Khari Lee!

    • TheBigCheesy

…and getting Allen’s contract off the books, which makes this a no-brainer for the Bears in my opinion.

      • willbest

No. Because he was already paid. He is owed less than $1 million for the rest of the year, and he could be cut without consequence at the end of it.

        • TheBigCheesy

Is that right? Wow. Well, I guess a 6th round pick for a bag of shit is still a pretty good deal but it’s official: the Jared Allen era was pretty regrettable.

          • The GP

The Cheesy era on the blog is equally as regrettable.

          • BearDown100393

            Royale with

          • Scharfinator

            hee hee

          • TheBigCheesy

I must say, I really thought it would have ended by now. And not in a million years could I have predicted the Bears would be THIS troll-worthy for so long.

I hope you know I feel for you, buddy.

          • The GP

With Theo Epstein turning the Cubs into a long term YoY winner, clearly Halas Hall has taken it upon themselves as a challenge to provide Chicago with the kind of destitute misery of a sports organization that really only the Jimmy Piersall Sox era from 77-81 could really match.

  • BearDown100393

Jared Allen’s awareness yielded a draft pick.

    • The GP

He can go be aware that he can’t turn the corner against Jamarcus Webb anymore down in the Carolinas where the hunting supply store is open 24×7.

  • The GP

Does the $825k and a pack of bubble gum, plus an extra janitor from Bank of America stadium that will come up and work at Halas Hall count against this year’s cap for the Panthers?

    How close were they? Data?

  • CanadaBear

We paid him slightly less than $3 mil/sack. But he was a great interview!

    • BearDown100393

      He built homes.

      • MB30SD

he also hunts with a fucking spear… not a gun. Which I respect.

        • BearDown100393

I heard he took down a mountain lion with a rubber spatula.

          • MB30SD

and then made a “lion omelet”

            …with scallions no less… SCALLIONS!!!

        • He was “aware”.

  • SC Dave

    Sort this by receptions… smh

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/chi/career-receiving.htm

Four of the top nine including the first two are RB. Personally, I would not have pegged that other Matt at #9.

    • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

Crazy. Matty will finish with the most receptions in franchise history by the end of the season (likely) if he finishes the season with the team. Passing Sweetness in the process. Ten bucks says he’s gone before that happens. Well…not ten bucks to all of you. Maybe just MB. I owe him anyway.

  • Trac

I would love for Jeff to remove the picture above with those 2 girls tied up. Pisses me off every time I see it.

    • MB30SD

      ???

      • MB30SD

If you’re talking about the ads above. trac… my maings. those are ads and not controlled by jeff. It’s innerness advertising. How jeff makes money.

    • willbest

The Kristin Stewart/Jodie Foster ad link about lesbian celebs?

      • Trac

I don’t think so. On my phone when I view the blog, there a a picture of what looks to be 2 terrified young girls laying on a bed with their arms tied behind their backs and duck tape over their mouths. It’s just sick. Not going to reply to all the other questions regarding my post. This response should be enough.

    • You need an FF miracle from Starks. Like a 99yd TD run.

But most likely, Fat Eddie will rock it.

    • Scharfinator

I’d second that vote – though I can’t see it.

Do you have the AdBlock app for Chrome?

      • Trac

I’ve got a Galaxy S5 smart phone. I don’t get the same adds on it as I do my laptop.

  • BillW

And now Bostic to the Pats! And it’s not even 8:00PM! Keep it up, Ryan!!

    • willbest

Yeah but know the Pats Pace probably had to give them that 6th rounder to take him

      • BillW

You know, there will be a line at the door saying “Trade ME to the Patriots!”

And anyone saying that shouldl be traded to Lovie.

  • BillW
    • willbest

I like this move. I know he is athletic, but he doesn’t seem to have that great of a football IQ.

      • BillW

But what are we going to do with all these 6th round draft choices? Seriously, I asked before if multiple 6ths had trade value and the consensus was no. So now we have 3 more camp bodies next year?

        • willbest

I would presume you would take say our 4th (which should be like #1-6) and the Pat’s 6th and trade back up into the bottom of the 3rd round. Then again the Pat’s 6th is more like a 7th.

  • MB30SD

There goes one of my boys, bostic. Best he plays for the pats. smh.

    I still gots one left. You’re my boy blue… I mean C.Jones!

Btw, mcclellin is still in a bears uni right? SMHA.

    • Bostic was cut?

      • MB30SD

        traded to the pats

      • willbest

Traded to the Pats for a 6th rounder.

        • MB30SD

that was allen, no reports on comp for bostic. Wait… sorry. yes, 6th

          • willbest

BillW has the link below on it.

        • so, we got 3 6th rounders?

          666! Blood Moon. Booya!

          The Omen 3 begins…

          • willbest

We gave one to somebody for a blocking TE they picked up off the street 3 months earlier

    • willbest

I believe that McClellin is either has an amazingly great attitude and work ethic. Or he has naked pictures of Virginia. I said in an earlier thread that of all the old timers (and he is the 4th most senior person on the team at this point) he is the most likely to be back.

      • MB30SD

        GP, please repost that vine.

      • SC Dave

Clearly Fangio thinks McClellin is better than Bostic, regardless of blog opinion on the matter.

        • MB30SD

          agree. puzzling.

(gp, vine please… not for dave, but for me. made me giggle)

        • And they made that determination VERY early.
Shea was running that D almost from GO.

          • willbest

Well at least his contract should be cheap when they bring him back next year

    • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

How is it possible that Shae is better than Bostic at inside LB? It isn’t possible, that’s how. It’s pissable!

      • MB30SD

        Thiiiiis!

  • Well, according to my Madden trading, We can trade two 6s and a 5th for a 4rth.

Then we can trade two 4rths for a 3rd.

So theoretically, we can gain an extra 3rd.

I usually use that for a stud RB that flies under the radar in Madden.

    • willbest

I stopped playing Madden sometime in 2002, but I had heard they turned it into an Role-playing game.

      • Irish Sweetness

I roll with 2008 on the PS2 (Vince Young is on the cover).

I had Devin Hester at WR before he was a WR. 100 rating. Unstoppable. You get a TD almost every pass to him.

        • MB30SD

          It’s like an alternate universe.

  • madscout12

Vadgers getting any call he wants on Monday night.

“Hey refs, 12 men on the field”…drops flag.
    “Hey refs, illegal contact”…drops flag

Christ, they don’t need any help.

    • willbest

Somehow I find the 12-man on the field call where the player is 1/2 second away from being on the sideline to be a bit overkill. There are flagrant holds on nearly every play that don’t get called.

      • madscout12

By the letter of the law, it was the right call. But the refs don’t call it until Vadgers whines to them, then drop the flag. Let the Pukes challenge like every other fuckin team in the league.

  • Eric Berry is probably my fav NFL safety. Don’t know if he’s the same now after the chemo,, but gotta root for him…to keeel Rodgers.

  • I don’t get why defenders don’t dive at a QBs knee when they run.
    They are runners after all.
I know I would fly in before he began diving. If I spear him, oh well. maybe next time he won’t run.

    • willbest

They all try to avoid each other’s knees.

      • Yeah, but you know the QBs going to slide, so you’ll be hitting his head, which is illegal, unless of course you dive in before he begins sliding.

If he slides into a spear, that’s no penalty.

The offense has enough unfair advantages as is.

They’d probably call it, but if enough defenders do it, guarantee QBs will think twice about running unless they want to end up like Steve Young.

        • willbest

But your offense gets those same advantages.

          • I don’t really like it period. Besides, when Cutty runs, he doesn’t get the All-state protection, and apparently neither does Cam and a lot of other QBs.

          • willbest

Yeah the helmet to helmet and facemask were a bit BS. And I haven’t seen any reports of them being fined for it.

          • BerwynBomber

Oh, please. That crap with Cam is all about Cam’s sense of entitlement. Give and take between players and officials goes on in every sport. You don’t complain and go public with that in your presser afterward.

I don’t see much favoritism in terms of NFL calls. Maybe with WRs in general but that’s about it.

          • You don’t think certain players get more calls than others? When a defender hit Brady’s knee and knocked him out for the year, they made a rule about!

It’s natural. It happens in every sport. Jordan used to get calls others wouldn’t, that’s for sure.

Cam just broke “the code” of not airing it out.

Even Deon admitted as much, and went even further, said it was a GOOD thing.

To which Irvin said, “Yeah, you got away with grabbing me all the time”

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, but then they design the Brady Rule because Brady and the Pats probably complained and they don’t call it on the R-berger play yesterday.
Cam’s a baby. A very talented and beast of one but a baby.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

The Pats also probably had video tape of the other team practicing diving at the knees of a tackling dummy wearing a Brady jersey.

          • burntorangenavyblue

Wtf….the NBA in the 90s were brutal….defenders were allowed to smack the ball and the hands of the ball dribbler for blocks and steals as well as make body to body contact while jumping in the air. Guys like Ewing, Kemp and Barkley got away with manhandling Jordan but he didn’t cry about it. There weren’t “rules” put into place to protect Jordans style of play. Your point is wrong compared to the Brady rule

        • MB30SD

happened to the fat face lezzy (NTTAWWT) this weekend (kind of like it) and dude got a 15. I was kind hoping his head would come off. Does that make me a bad person?

          • Bad person? As long as you fasted, you’re good!

          • MB30SD

            damn!

          • MB30SD

In my defense it’s hard to fast with a 4 and 6 yr old.

          • Didn’t Moses have like a million kids?

            Don’t make me call NB.

          • MB30SD

shhhhhhhhh. come on dude. go easy!

          • Hey, where IS NB?

I know he’s still alive cuz he’s getting spanked in FF which uncharacteristic of him. He’s usually pretty good in FF.

          • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

Schoolin fools like me on the chess board. I am like 2-18 against him.

    • Scharfinator

Really, they need to eliminate the slide all together. It’s not a passive thing – QB’s choose to run past the LoS. They shouldn’t get extra protections based on choices they make.

  • MB30SD
  • We looked more competitive than these Chiefs tonight.
    Ergo.
    We’re better than the Chiefs.

    LOGIC.

    • willbest

If we took Jeff’s suggestion of kicking it out the back of the end zone and had Cutty, I think we would have had a shot at 7-8 wins this season

  • Houston is a bad bad man.
    One man wrecking crew.

  • Who in the NFC can take down the Pukes? (Besides any team in the playoffs)

The only teams in the NFC I see beating them are the Cards and Cowboys (if they have Romo/Dez).

That Broncos game will be epic. #1 D vs-Vadgers ought to be an instant classic, but they’re in the AFC.

    • Irish Sweetness

Can’t see the Girlz making the playoffs. Cards, Pack … that’s it. The Lions suck.
Pittsburgh were my pick before Ben went down. Pats v Pack. Euch.

      • madscout12

The Cards can beat the Pack. Great cover corners, can shut down the run, and big boy WR to go against the Pack’s holding secondary. Now if only they could convince me more on running the hell out of the football.

        • MB30SD

I’m in on tgat. Pats cards. Interesting sb

  • BerwynBomber

Put that one on McCarthy and one of the reasons the Cheese can never be trusted in the post-season (the other is their D). No reason to go for it on fourth and five and give a struggling Chiefs team that sort of field position.

    • Arrogance.

      • BerwynBomber

And stupidity. Do you remember that punt return lateral he called against us at Soldier? Wanna say it was 2012? One of the dumbest plays I’ve ever seen called. We almost stole that game on that play alone.

        • MB30SD

Nope, I can’tremember the last time we even almost beat those motherfuckers. Siiigh.

          • Johnnywad

Wasn’t long ago. Just Google Randall Cobb beats Chris Conte and it’ll all come back to you.

          • Scharfinator

            YOU SON OF A BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

          • MB30SD

why would you do that to me!?!?! BASTAAAARDO!!!!

          • Johnnywad

Keepin it real. You should burn your Conte jersey.

      • SC Dave

A trait shared by much of that fan base.

  • burntorangenavyblue

Just saw a Madden 16 commercial….WTF? What happened to football?!

    • Scharfinator

The Madden games have been a dumpster fire for years. Once EA signed the exclusivity deal with the NFL, that franchise went down faster than Paris Hilton.

A good counter example is how EA’s FIFA has to improve at least somewhat each year, as Pro Ev. Soccer continues to improve.

  • RenoBear

I’m shocked how many people are up in arms over bostic and Allen being traded for a pair of 6th round picks. I think it’s fucking GREAT. A 34 yr old has been and s guy who NEVER played and was healthy. This is no fire sale, folks. This is getting rid of broken and misfit parts. I’m stoked we got draft picks bc we just would’ve cut them in the offseason anyway and gotten NOTHING in return. And everyone crying about money we paid Allen, WHO CARES??? You and I ain’t paying them. It’s not like he kept us from contending because his contract was prohibitive! Cutlers too, for that matter. The Besrs already paid the big bucks, now it’s year to year … Man up fuckers, this is gonna be a bumpy ride but I’m going to enjoy the fuck out of it !!

    • madscout12

Absolutely. Let some young, hungry, talented players play. Draft a QB next year with some fuckin talent and sit his ass down behind Cutler until he can beat him for the job, legitimately. We need to rebuild just about every position group of this team…nothing is great. The only sacred cow is value, and we must sacrifice all to it.

      • MB30SD

        This too.

    • Irish Sweetness

Bostic’s gone? When the fuck did we get ice cream ??

    • BearDown100393

Kraft sent a medevac to pick up Bostic.

    • Pissed Off

      Who’s mad about it?

      • RenoBear

People. Dumb fans. Lurkers. Meat heads. Jag offs who think that they can be better GM’s than half the league with their high school education.

        • MB30SD

          Thiiiiiiiis.

Wanna name screen names reno? Hahaha

          Btw, your avatar?

          • RenoBear

I don’t know wtf it is and how I have it. I’m thinking its time for a proper avatar.

        • Huge Bear’s Penis

to be fair they have probably been playing Madden for years or they are top dogs in the FF league with their McDonalds coworkers

  • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

It pisses me off how good Aaron Rodgers is. Fml.

    • BerwynBomber

Yep. Dude outsmarts the opposing DC’s with all these 12 man on the field penalties. He gets the other team ever freaking week with that. Same with the draw them offsides/free deep play/TD stuff.

The mental part reminds me of Peyton in his prime. He knew all the tricks too. Basically a coach on the field. Same with Rodgers.

      • DocNitty Ellipsoids Ornamental

As soon as jumped offsides I said, “they’re fucked”.

        • AlbertInTucson

I thought Baktiari moved when he saw the defender come across but before the snap. That should have blown the play dead.

    • BearDown100393

If it is any consolation, Rodgers sucks at commercials.

    • BerwynBomber

And the thing is the Chiefs are putting decent pressure on him tonight. As did SEA last week. Arguably two of the best D-lines and front sevens in the NFL.

  • BerwynBomber

Schefter just reported that Cutty won’t play Sunday but that Alshon should be good to go. Also speculated that we are accumulating picks to potentially trade up if a franchise QB is there in the draft. Who knows.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

why trade up? the way they are playing might have the 1st pick anyway.

    • BillW

So does Madden say how much 32 6th round picks are worth?

    • BearDown100393

      Just a hamstring….

    • 6th round picks aren’t helping you move up at the top of round 1.

      • BerwynBomber

I assume he meant it allows you to increase your draft pick package to move up. Not that two extra 6th rounders do it on their own.

        • We gotta have a Top 3 pick to even sniff a franchise QB.

In this day and age, teams will give up an arm and leg to snatch one up, and even then the top 2 teams are just as likely to deny a king’s ransom (TEN).

          • Irish Sweetness

Are Cook or Goff the guys though? I’d rather have a studly LT than a QB bust.

          • BerwynBomber

            And an LT bust?

          • Irish Sweetness

I don’t know anything about the incoming class, but POX will. I don’t think they’ll buy any hype, even if they have a top 3 pick.

          • BerwynBomber

I think the fact that he tried so hard to get Mariota is reassuring, if the early returns on Mariota are to be believed.

          • I caught one game of Cook. He did NOT impress. Granted, it’s still early, but I think folks are in love with his “frame”. He LOOKS more like a classic QB, but so did Fat Lesbo.

Gonna catch Goff soon. From what I’ve read, he looks like the reals.

          • Pissed Off

At this point the team can keep trying and we will still be in the top 3.

          • DaMurph

Unless Aaron Rodgers has a clone sitting in the bottom half again.

    • Irish Sweetness

If Cutty’s not playing, then why is the Vegas line BEars +2.5? Should be 25 with Claws in there.

    • Pissed Off

That’s the best news I’ve heard all day….is Goff the consesus guy?

  • The GP

Ladies and Germs, in the tradition of Dick Butkus, Mike Singletary and Brian Urlacher – I give you our Mike linebacker with no real competition: Shae McClellin!

    https://vine.co/v/eUWEHZELLJv

    • Irish Sweetness

      No competition?? Timu.

    • Maybe he’s confused. Maybe he thinks he’s playing goalie for Futbol

      • The GP

        crank it up

    • Scharfinator

Holeeeey shit. I could flail around like that for $800k a year.

  • The GP

We just traded Brock Vereen to the Niners for an autographed picture of Harvey Milk.

  • Speaking of “happy feet”, I don’t recall Cutty doing that backpedaling BS this season.
    arrow up!

  • Irish Sweetness

Wow. Logged in to see not only one, but two new threads … and I didn’t see the Allen thing coming. His lack of production versus his salary certainly warrants it though, and it’s a bold move which once again shows us that Fox is serious about winning. Kudos. Can’t say I’ll miss him – there was nothing to miss.

  • BearDown100393

    I hate them.

  • Andy Reid’s gonna be in the hot seat after this game. Put him and the Colt’s HC on the doomsday ticker.

    • BearDown100393

Andy Reid – future Golden Corral franchisee

      • MB30SD

        And very regular customer

        • Scharfinator

          Day time manager.

  • BillW

Just noticed the afc south is a Lawrence Welk division. And there probably are less than 5 people here who get that reference

    • madscout12

They play bad jazz and crappy skits in the AFC South?

      • BillW

Well they do have a team based in Indiana. No, all the teams are 1 and 2. Lawrence Welk was known for starting every song with that count in.

The Packers once pulled off a Lawrence Welk trade for John Hadl. They gave up a 1 and a 2 and a 1 2 3.

    • AlbertInTucson

      The Lennon Sisters were cute.

Grandma had 1 TV and if we were there at 7pm on a Saturday, it was tuned to Lawrence Welk.

      Period.

One of Stan Freberg’s , who passed away in April, best comedy recordings was his send-up of Welk’s show in

      ‘Wunnerful, Wunnerful’

      Side uh-one and uh two.

      • CanadaBear

Myron Floren was great on accordion. He was amazing. Jo Anne Castle was always fun playing ragtime and boogie-woogie (if only she would stop mugging for the camera).

  • Pissed Off

If we use every one of our picks next year on a qb in the draft what are the odds one pans out as a franchise guy?

  • BillW

Is it me or does it seem like the Packers get more than 8 home games?

Understandable they get several national games. But I would also say more than half are at home.

Oh well. I remember in 85 Madden asking CBS to put him ans Summerall on more Bears games. GB is a national team now. Rodgers is beyond description. There will never be anyone like him. That’s my Bear fan consolation. The Packers are no good as a team. They have possibly the best to ever play the most important position and the way the NFL is set up that’s more than enough.

    Until the playoffs that is.

    • AlbertInTucson

The Networks love Lambeau as a venue.

  • Irish Sweetness

“We lose a leader,” Bears linebacker Pernell McPhee said of Allen. “A leader out of the locker room, a great guy.”

So why don’t we pull a Panthers move? Why don’t we grab somebody to fit our scheme for peanuts?
Ryan Pace, you’re up son. Look what they did in Carolina.

Allen gets to play with Keuchly in a 4-3, Bostic gets to go to the superbowl.

    • BerwynBomber

Pace wants draft picks not veterans for this year.

  • Haha, when the Pukes play the 9ers next week, they’re gonna show that Alex Smith-Vadgers draft clip every time Kaep throws a pick.

  • Seeing Alex Smith try to force it down field is unnatural.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Bears, Saints, Lions, Ravens.

    Who wins first?

    • madscout12

Ravens. This week vs the hobbled Steelers. Old Man Vick will suck on a short week.

  • Robert L. Wendt

The Bears did right in trading Jared Allen. He clearly did not fit in Vic Fangio’s defense. I think
the Bears are going to start stockpiling draft picks. Hopefully they will be players that will make
    the Bears Superbowl contenders.

  • Trac

Just reflecting on how stupid it was to cut Peppers and sign Allen. smh.

  • DaMurph

Well, Im gonna say it, Phil Emery was a worse GM than Angelo! He got lucky with Long, other than that he did nothin! I dont understand this curse of our first rounders. Is there another team that has had the luck we have with first round choices?

  • AlbertInTucson

    “DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
Eric Fisher was the first pick in the draft. @Ky1eLong is a better right tackle after three starts.”

Fisher’s been disappointing as have several 1st round O-Line picks, most notably Brandon Scherff for the Redskins who has been found wanting at RT and is being shifted inside.
