    BEA (Bea Arthur) T

Minnie (Minnie Driver) + Baking SODA

Pat, I’d like to be FIRST to solve the puzzle, I must say.

    • Shady

      Baking soda?

      • GPLDAN

Oh! I got Green River soda wrong even though it was founded in Chicago in a Pilsen neighborhood. How embarrassing to have a pop as a kid (Chicagoans say pop, and we always had Green River in my house) and fuck that up.

My entry is disqualified. Shady wins by default. (Shame)

  • Shady

    Bea + t Minnie + soda

Beat Minneasota. Got it! What do I win? If it’s tickets to the game today, I’ll pass.

    • GPLDAN

Too slow on the draw. As usual. No wonder you suck at Call of Duty.

      • Shady

        You fuxking scooped me!

        • GPLDAN

That’s right. I used to go over to Bill’s house when we were kids and watch Maude, the Mary Tyler Moore show and Match Game. Betty White was our babysitter.

    • Beware the Jericho

i love young minnie driver and still have a thing for older minnie driver.

      • Well, Evan recently MET old Minnie Driver, and from the sound of it, she was into mustachiod hipsters drinking Hudson Valley whiskey shots (from a wine glass).

        Mmm. Quite.

  • GPLDAN

Props to the Wildcats for going into South Bend at homecoming and tipping that table over. Hate the Domers.

Today is cold cold cold, but not as cold as the reception Trestman is about to get when his team takes the field.

    • SC Dave

How about Gordon for Wisconsin… 408 yards in three quarters. Sheesh.

      • GPLDAN

He looked like Beast mode out there.

      • Cormonster

That game is going to stay on my DVR for a long time. He broke Tomlinson’s record with only 25 carries. It took LT 43 carries to get his 406 yards. A performance for the ages.

    • Big Mike

They either jump out to an early lead or it will not be friendly. Least friendly start, idiot kickoff return man takes the ball out from 9 yards deep, get’s out to about the 18 and there is a hold on the play. 1st and 10 Bears from the 9. False start, incomplete, sack.. Punt.

      • CanadaBear

Williams tries to not break the plane of the 15 yard line.

  • SC Dave

My plan is in place, Johnny. Have my location determined and I know for sure they have at least a few craft beers new to my palate.

    Salut!

    • Beware the Jericho

I’m ready. First drive TD. let the run begin because stranger things have happened. Giants won the Super Bowl after squeaking to 9-7 and playing so poorly that people were calling coaching change during the year.
If a miracle happens awesome, if it doesn’t we had great beers and there’s always next year.

      • Don’t forget to set up your FF line up!
        Friendly reminder.
        Commish.

      • SC Dave

Founder’s Dark Penance here. American black ale…abv 8.9. Catch y’all after the game

  • wreckinball

    Start drinking now

  • Beware the Jericho

the 4 fingers in the air used to have great significance. My team would stay long after practice even after the coaches had left and run gassers in full pads until we fucking puked because we knew that once that 4th quarter hit we were going to put the other team in a world of hurt. A lot of the injuries, turnovers and general mayhem that we dished out was courtesy of the 4th quarter advantage.
We didn’t just walk around with 4 fingers up. You’d walk up to guys and look them in the eyes and confirm that you were about to fucking kill someone no matter what your role was. Good times.

  • huntinbare

Wondering where the floor of rock bottom exists today? Did we smack it hard last sunday on our descent into the abyss? Are we crippled in a heap waiting for the vultures to pick our carcass to the bones? Did we use some of the “flubber” that Marty had smeared all over his hands and rebound out of the depths? Or are we still free falling wondering how far down, bottomed out is?
I do not remember ever going through a week in my 61+ years of rooting for this franchise like the past 7 days. Not sure if I want to continue the flight into the depths of despair and win the “draft division” with the rest of the losers… or ….pull up to today’s game with Lamont and Fred’s salvage truck to restore order to our fair city? Never thought this team would conflict my heart going into the season.
There was a man with a child like mind who came down to the gulf shore every winter from Boston with his parents. He always came into the mail room to watch me do my mail thing. Everytime I gave Joey a question about something he wasn’t sure about he would emphatically state, in his high pitched excited voice….WHO CARES????….I don’t know about this team anymore

  • huntinbare

Hey Doc…that wasn’t you intercepting that ball for a pick 6 last night against ASU…DOCTOR to the house for the victory…how bought them BEAVERS

  • Pass the Bourbon, and Bear Down.
    Ugh.

  • Sadly, this is what I’m reduced to on Sundays now. (Replace “Wild Thing” for “Cutty Badger”)

  • Jack Lacan

So far I have not tuned to Center Ice…

  • Jack Lacan

Some of the crowd look like they’re on release from Manteno…

  • If the Bears go three-and-out in the first drive, do they fold like a cheap Bangladeshi tent?
    Against the Queens, the QUEEENS?
    Stay tuned.

    • Shady

The Minny defense has some talent. Griffen, Barr, Harrison, your boy Floyd. I’m curious to see if the defense shows any signs of life against a rookie QB after getting hammered by two HOF QBs.

      • Minny’s D is under rated, IMO. Yeah. I agree.
Bridgewater is interesting. Do they treat him like an option QB, or traditional QB?
        Guess we’ll find out.

        • GPLDAN

Vikes are #7 D overall this year.

  • Jack Lacan

Good news — none of the flag guys fell down…

  • Shady

Robbie’s kickoff booted to the 20. Seriously, the hell was that DeCamel?

    • FantuzPhysics

Patterson is very dangerous, Could be eliminating him from the game.

      • Shady

        I think you’re right.

  • underway

My only fear is that a victory in this game, gives everybody amnesia of what we really are. They are playing to make us forget the last month of Chicago football… ugh

    • BerwynBomber

      Highly unlikely.

    • Jack Lacan

Perhaps Coach Trestman can go back to writing books on thinking positively…

  • FantuzPhysics

Man the O-Line is screwing up

  • Shady

Ugh. There is no amount of booze in the world to make this game tolerable.

    • Jack Lacan

Oh yes there is … it takes a lot but there is…

  • Way to keep your cool, Cutty.

  • Shady

Another TD for JJ Watt. This guy is unbelivable.

  • BerwynBomber

Mike Carey making up shit again.

  • BearDown100393

The Bears only get to keep the ball because the Vikings were too stupid to fall on top of it.

  • Jack Lacan

    Vikings miscommunication…

  • Boy, Cutty really wants to take the crown for TOs from Bortles.

  • Bad whiff by DLP.

  • BerwynBomber

    Oh boy …

    • BearDown100393

      Not even close.

  • NewBearInTown

Following online. Somebody explain the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Cutler?

    • BearDown100393

      Yap yap.

      • Jack Lacan

I think – I don’t know – that Cutty thought the red flag should not have been considered since the ball / play was over…and then let the epithets fly…

        • BearDown100393

          Rabbit ears on the official.

    • BerwynBomber

My guess is he told a ref to F off. Truth is it probably evened things out given that looked like a fumble and a recovery.

      • Beware the Jericho

No I wasn’t. Everyone stopped going for the ball and the whistle blew. Then someone picked it up.

        • CanadaBear

The whistle definitely blew the play dead. They were blowing it big time.

  • BerwynBomber

    Robbie’s rusty.

    • BearDown100393

If you were the opponent, would you have any for the Bears?

      • underway

No, but what I expect is for the coaches to remind the players about that level of disrespect. Every 4th down opposing teams will try something. BE ALERT….

  • Shady

    booooo

  • FantuzPhysics

Great play. Got to cover your asses for any possibility.

    • Beware the Jericho

Obvious clip against Jennings just ignored. That’s when you know it’s not going your way.

    • BerwynBomber

Yep, gotta give Minny credit. That was slick.

  • DeCamel. Fine preparation.

  • BerwynBomber

The good news? The effort is there. The bad news? So are the mistakes.

  • BerwynBomber

  • Shady

Sweet play Cutler to Jeffery! Flag on the play… Against the Queens… TD!!

  • underway

    boom

  • BerwynBomber

    Heckuva play by Jay there.

    • GPLDAN

I will take it. A duck, but who cares it worked

    • johnnywad

Yeah but the mechanics were bad. So we can’t bitch about mechanics, because sometimes it nets touchdowns

      • BerwynBomber

I dont’ think people bitch about mechanics when he’s on the run. Or they are fools if they do.

        • johnnywad

People bitch about everything with Jay. I guess that’s my snarky point. I hate hearing about his “mechanics”. It only comes up when the result is bad, regardless of the situation of the play

      • Not to mention he threw it into double coverage.
        Cutler giveth, Cutler taketh away.

  • Lower draft pick, here we come!

  • Can O’Donnel put it into the 10, ever?

    • CanadaBear

      You sure bitch a lot.

  • Aren’t Bears most penalized team?
And Cutler 2nd behind only Bortles in TOs?

That’s usually not a winning combo.
    No wonder our O stalls.

    • Shady

That PI against the BU was a killer.

  • I gotta say, the Bears at least seem like they have more energy in this game.

  • BerwynBomber

First down saving play by Williams there. There was a lot of green space in the flat.

  • There it is O.
D provides a 3 and out, short field.

Williams carries the ball on the inside during run back…???

Yellow flags — remember this is the carp of the NFC Central…

  • Jack Lacan

Last time he sprained his ankle, he caught 3 TDs the next week

  • Jack Lacan

The Bears have taken their first lead in a month…

  • BerwynBomber

Marshall and Jeffrey also playing well. Other than the penalties and the one ST play we have sorta dominated this game.

  • I like how the D is playing in this game, esp Allen.
The reports of his death are premature.

    • CanadaBear

      Hopefully!

  • johnnywad

    Wright hurt his weiner

  • GPLDAN

    he will let you dooooown

  • johnnywad

Isn’t this the number 7 D in the NFL? WTF am I seeing?

    • CanadaBear

      They’ve played some stiffs.

      • johnnywad

Maybe so. But hasn’t everybody. We’re almost ten games in here

  • GPLDAN

    Conte is playing strong safety?

  • BerwynBomber

Bridgewater looks lost if his primary is covered.

  • johnnywad

I want the Bears to get the ball back with 90 seconds and see if Trestman has learned anything on that front.

  • Jack Lacan

    Take it easy Jared…

    • BearDown100393

      Watch those knees.

    • Shady

Not a fan of the calf rope?

      • johnnywad

He needs to not do that right now

  • johnnywad

OK. Let’s manage the clock Marc. I want to like you

  • Hank

Offense better do something with this.

  • Boy, Allen is playing out of his mind.
In that 3rd and long, he peeled off his pass rush quickly because he recognized the screen.
    That was beautiful.

    • GPLDAN

oh honey… you DID go to Jared

      • johnnywad

        Gag

      • Jack Lacan

Also well said —- the references are not obscure…

  • BerwynBomber

Should’ve called TO after the sack. On the flip side Bridgewater should have run that third down play to a second before the snap.

  • Hasn’t learned

  • Hank

    Why no urgency?

  • johnnywad

    Mother fucker. Marc. Fuck you

    • GPLDAN

      take his shot here

      • johnnywad

But why burn a minute on two runs? You know why? Cuz he thought “They’ll never think we’ll run it “

    • Jack Lacan

      Even the announcers are amazed…

    • johnnywad

Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with Trestmans brain?

      • Jack Lacan

He’s working on his next book right now

  • BearDown100393

I do not get it. I really do not.

    • Hank

72 seconds with a timeout, and they sit around shooting the shit. pathetic.

  • Maybe he doesn’t trust Cutler not to turn it over?

  • BerwynBomber

Bizarre end to the first half. Trestman is scared shitless.

  • GPLDAN

    a sideline route? SERIOUSLY?

  • Way to totally deflate any momentum, Tresty.
    Grade A coaching.

    • GPLDAN

BOTH TDs are from endzone jump balls and with 7 seconds left he runs a SIDELINE route? Even if the catch i made, there isn’t time for another play!

      asshole

      • johnnywad

I’m trying to fight myself and get back to liking this guy. I specifically wanted to see him show a rudimentary understanding of NFL football at the end of the half. Despite most of Chicago knowing what needs to happen, he doesn’t. He just doesn’t get it. You need fucking points. He’s treating a slim lead like a giant cushion. Goddammit. You think Harbaugh , or Carroll, or fuck, name any coach, would have just done that? Son of a bitch.

        • Jack Lacan

          Ab-sol-LUTELY…

      • Beware the Jericho

one was a back shoulder TD and the other was a deep ball because marshall beat his guy what the fuck are you talking about? end zone jump balls? jesus.

  • Jack Lacan

    Trestman is wincing…

  • Is this the first lead into half time since…..Panthers?

    • BerwynBomber

      Atlanta

    • Jack Lacan

First lead since The Chicago Cardinals and The Herald-American…or The Daily News and Mike Royko…

  • BearDown100393

    Trestman completely ignores the question.

  • Shady

    Bears ball out the half.

  • CanadaBear

We get the ball to start the second half. Let’s see some urgency then!!??!! Gotta give it up for the old guys Allen, Briggs and DJ all had a good first half.

    • BerwynBomber

Agreed. All those dudes flashed in the first half and Allen is destroying their LT.

    • beninnorcal

Gannon just sounded so stupid calling for the Bears to start chuckin’ then criticizing them after the pick. Dumbass.

      • CanadaBear

You knew he’d be ready to bitch about Cutler as soon as he could.

      • BearDown100393

His point was lack of urgency before the end of the half. The Bears run the ball to kill the clock. And then throw a useless pass that was intercepted at the end. The management made no sense. And he was right.

  • Shady

Emmanuel Sanders just got rocked. oh my. clean hit too. of course the refs don’t see it that way.

  • beninnorcal

Now a little control of the game on the ground to start the half and we’re on to something.

  • RenoBear

Trestman truly fuckin kills me. How do you not try to get points with over a minute left? Johnnywad brlow said it best. Fuckin Trestman. He over analyzes EVERYTHING. Probably over analyzes what position he thinks his wife ‘might’ want to have sex in… When she’s begging for anything. Damn it

    • beninnorcal

Because you risk turning the ball like they did but sooner. Hence, you risk the lead going into the half.

      • CanadaBear

They were rolling so I thought they might try to keep it going.

      • RenoBear

I understand all that. But just show some cajones sometimes. The offense was rolling pretty well. Take a freakin chance, the Bears don’t have much to lose

        • beninnorcal

          Ok ok

          • beninnorcal

            You’re right, sir.

  • beninnorcal

I think they should have just run the clock out on the ground knowing they start the half with no time constraints that make them predictable.

  • CanadaBear

The refs just threw a flag on themselves.

  • FantuzPhysics

    Wilson getting involved

  • Shady

Cutler to Jeffery is a thing again.

  • johnnywad

THAT looks like last year’s offense

  • Jack Lacan

Jeffrey looked like he was twenty feet tall…

  • Jack Lacan

Why don’t the Vikings panic and quit…?

    • Jack Lacan

      I just saw why…

  • Shady

    Tresticles.

  • Shady

    Fack.

    • johnnywad

      Prepare your safety dance

  • tobijohn

Come on, what’s wrong with a FG?

    • Jack Lacan

      What’s wrong with Forte???

  • FantuzPhysics

Shart. Ballsy, but not good enough blocking

    • GPLDAN

      Fuck

    • Shady

Bushrod was there but couldn’t quite hold his block.

      • CanadaBear

He’s been pretty underwhelming this year.

  • johnnywad

Probably should have used Forte there in hindsight…….

  • CanadaBear

If the D holds we’re good. If they shit the bed …

  • Shady

    How is that not grounding?

    • Shady

I swear these guys make it up as they go along.

    • SC Dave

That gift of 2 points and the ball to Minnesota did rather irritate me.

  • BearDown100393

Lemme try to figure out Trestman’s thinking. We get the ball with about 90 seconds left before the half. Burn up time running the ball and getting slow to the line. And then throw the ball which is intercepted on a play that could not do anything positive anyway. Get the ball back to start the 2nd half. Go for it on 4th and goal and come away with nothing.

    • GPLDAN

      Yep

      • Jack Lacan

Trestman is “playing not to win”…

    • johnnywad

Don’t forget not use one of the best backs in the NFL to get you a yard despite having 49 yards on 8 carries in the first half

    • Jack Lacan

This post is worth much commentary during the week…

    • Jack Lacan

      What fucking thinking is there?????

  • Jack Lacan

The Tribune Tower was “in the vicinity”…

    • FantuzPhysics

15 yards away is in the vicinity? Jeez.

  • GPLDAN

Then we let them outta there

  • Jack Lacan

The Bridge Over the River Kwai — Bridge to Nowhere — I really like that Bridge Over Purple

Bears O gets the ball in plus territory. Have to put some points on the board.

  • BerwynBomber

Jeffrey’s best game of the year.

  • Shady

    ugh. there it is.

  • GPLDAN

    Jay taketh away

  • johnnywad

And that’s why you try to get the seven at half

    • Jack Lacan

      For sure, eh…

  • Cutler will surpass Bortles today.

  • BearDown100393

    Unacceptable.

  • tobijohn

    Jay will never change…

  • Jack Lacan

Even Bridgewater would have tossed it to the concessions….

  • RenoBear

Why oh why does EVERY Cutler pick get run back for 50+ yds??

    • tobijohn

The O should have special practices for that seeing as how often it happens…

  • D does the job against inferior teams.
O shits the bed no matter what

  • johnnywad

You cannot still have “communication issues” in November in the second year in the system.

  • BerwynBomber

That was a gang tackle from the Lovie years. Impressive effort by the D to limit Cutty’s mistake.

    • GPLDAN

      Bullet dodged

  • Who wants the lower draft pick more badly?
    Gotta earn it, baby!

  • BearDown100393

If this were high school, this would be a pretty exciting football game.

  • Jack Lacan

    Every dog has its day…

  • BerwynBomber

Only one game but I have seen nothing from Bridgewater. Not even a single flash play. Is Cassell still injured?

    • CanadaBear

From what I’ve seen of Teddy he’s going to get a receiver killed. He’s willing to lead the poor bastards into a thumping.

  • GPLDAN

    Great run

  • RenoBear

    Love Forte

  • Shady

    Put your 4’s up.

  • johnnywad

Trestmans hair is a perfect metaphor for the Bears

    • BearDown100393

      Flaky.

  • CanadaBear

    MATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • BerwynBomber

He’s so damn excellent. If it weren’t for the huge shadow of Payton, we’d be talking about arguably the best O player in Bears history.

      • CanadaBear

I love Matt but my avatar says it all.

        • BerwynBomber

Understood and no crit meant of your guy by comparison. Gale’s a HoFer. Forte is not. At least thus far. But he’s a wonderful back regardless.

          • Cormonster

Forte has the most yards from scrimmage of any player in the NFL since he joined the league. That is most impressive.

          • SC Dave

Yeah really. What the fuck more do you want?

        • huntinbare

          Agreed

  • Jack Lacan

One guy is playing football out there…

    • BerwynBomber

      No fucking shit…

  • Jack Lacan

And that’s why we should have run Forte at the goal line…Trestman you moron…

  • RenoBear

Trestmans decision making is so weird.

  • TAKE THE FG if it’s short

  • BearDown100393

This is an awful lot of work to beat a bad football team.

    • Jack Lacan

      Yes sir…

    • beninnorcal

A bad team with a superior record to our Bears.

  • Jack Lacan

    Standing ovation for Matt…

    • beninnorcal

That was some hard running. Tough stuff.

  • CanadaBear

    BMARSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • CanadaBear

That was one of the most violent hits I’ve seen Matt take in a long time.

  • Jack Lacan

    Time to jump a route…

  • BerwynBomber

    Huge penalty there.

    • CanadaBear

think that might have been a make up penalty.

  • BearDown100393

Must be Mel Tucker’s Bend & Break defensive strategy here.

  • Jack Lacan

    The pasta Flex defense

  • Jack Lacan

    Fake field goal????

    • CanadaBear

Nah. Still need the other score.

  • CanadaBear

The D has played well. Cutler has kept both teams in it.

  • GPLDAN

    A full back!

  • beninnorcal

I’d take Jeff Fisher as our next HC. Not that he’s going anywhere..

    • CanadaBear

We can do better than that. However, I’m sure he would be an improvement.

  • GPLDAN

I chalk this win up to Marquess

  • Jack Lacan

This game has taken a large amount of drinking…

  • Daaaammmn.

Rams dbacks are knocking the snot out of the Broncos WRs

    • BerwynBomber

      P. Manning looking mortal today. A rarity in the regular season.

  • CanadaBear

    We just got Podleshed.

  • Nice punt, O’donnell auto parts.
    saracasm off.

    • Jack Lacan

The “blocked” punt last week was kicked farther than that…

  • EnderWiggin

    Young is ice fishin’!

    • CanadaBear

      Hope they keep biting.

  • CanadaBear

    MUNDY!!!!!!!!!!

  • BearDown100393

I’ll take it. Because I have to.

  • Shady

    Much needed win. Congrats Jeffersons.

  • Jack Lacan

We beat the Vikings…We defeated the Vikings…

  • BerwynBomber

Tresty survives for another week. Tresty vs. Lovie next week.

    • GPLDAN

      bah

      • Jack Lacan

        Note – sarcasm above…

    • Fitting. Tresty pulling a “Lovie”, winning in meaningless games to extend his tenure of mediocrity.
Maybe he’ll leave Forte in the last meaningless game so he can get injured.

  • CanadaBear

Happy for the W. Nothing to get excited about but we needed it badly.

  • BearDown100393

Congratulations to the Bears! You have now tied the Blackhawks for wins at Soldier Field in 2014.

    • Jack Lacan

      Again a truly funny remark…Thanks…

    • SC Dave

      Nobody cares about the Blackhawks.

  • wreckinball

    Just win baby

  • Trac

News flash!!! We are NOT viking bad.

  • Soooo many good games today.
I think 4 games (8 teams) feature teams that are at least 6-3 going up against each other.
Most this deep in a season since forever (if ever).
Enjoy with Bears “victory”, me boys.

  • SC Dave

Well, Johnny, looks like we’re committed for next week.
    Cheers, compadre!

  • Jack Lacan

Trestman must go!!! That goal line call — that me, in complete ignorance, — called for Forte…does it…
    He is soft…
We beat the Vikings — chant is completely sarcastic…

    • wreckinball

I’m telling you 6-10 and we ll have another year of Tresty

  • Jack Lacan

    Picler must go…

  • Jack Lacan

56 million a year and he’s scowling at reporters that give him questions…
    Jay Cutler…Come on, man…

    • wreckinball

      That’s who he is

    • johnnywad

I would too. Most of them are assholes and kill him at every turn

    • NewBearInTown

You’ve just spent the past three weeks of your life having people say that you don’t deserve the job you worked your entire life to get, that it was a mistake to hire you and that you should be fired immediately and made to train your replacement. You’ve worked through the hardest three weeks of your career without a kind word from any of them.
Then you spend an afternoon proving that, with no help from management, you can do everything you promised when you signed that contract. Now you are to spend 15 minutes answering questions from all of those who bad mouthed you these past three weeks.
How do you feel about answering questions?

      • huntinbare

I think the press likes a punching bag; so , because he has had a horrible year turning the ball over they take the easy shots. He will always be a whipping biy for the press; even if he wins this monkey will always be on his back. Maybe he keeps a scorecard and most of these commentators just do not inspire him.

      • Jack Lacan

Do your job? This is like let’s feel sorry for billionaires…lower their taxes…
        What’s in your wallet?

  • wreckinball

Lovie is in town next week after a big blowout win

Josh McCown vs Jay will be interesting

    • wreckinball

We’ll be interesting to us no one else in the league will give a fuck

  • SC Dave

Holy shit… what a bunch of whiny dicks on this blog. The team finally shows a little heart and wins a game, and most of what I see is bitching.

    *sigh*

    • huntinbare

My only gripe if they keep winning is ….where was the effort every play every game..do not create a feeling of too little too late…

      • Trac

You play to win the game.

        • huntinbare

True…it is your only purchase as a player…but that mentality can’t start after loathing and self criticism it begins with your offseason workout regimen. There was too much quit on too many plays this year to say we have a sharp focus on the winning thing

  • BerwynBomber

D played well. O-line, the WRs and Forte were outstanding. Jay was a mixed bag but good enough. Only the STs looked piss-poor.

    • SC Dave

Didn’t like that long run on the punt fake for sure. Not that they got a first down on surprise, but that they go around 50 yards on it.

      • BerwynBomber

That play I can almost give the STs a pass on. Give Minny credit there. But Robbie missed a makeable FG and O’Donnell punted like shit.

  • SC Dave

    Packers up 17-0 already.

  • RenoBear

Watching red zone channel and they’ve been showing basically the whole packers game. The media love for the packers and the man-love for Rodgers ‘cumming’ from Buck and Aikmen is repulsively disgusting. Blech…

    • SC Dave

More disgusting is how much a GB QB kicks the shit out of everyone.

      • huntinbare

It is actually a great QB who just happens to be in our way…This is how it feels when you have only one way to beat your arch ruval with an elite athlete at the helm. We have to play inspired mistake free ball…so far he is the ruler with which we measure our progress.

        • RenoBear

          Unfortunately, this…

          • huntinbare

It burns…but I followed Jordans Bulls and I am sure he caused this sensatuon around the NBA when there were some decent teams who could have won a title or 2

        • SC Dave

The only way we will beat them is to injure Rodgers, NTTAWWT

          • huntinbare

See my post above about our soft hitters

        • AlbertInTucson

Our OWN QB is the main one “in our way” as long as he can’t take better care of the football.

          • huntinbare

It remains a mystery to me why he cannot clear this 2+ picks a game sickness cured. He knows it is a problem! So why make some of these throws; with all the three and outs what is the problem of eating the play by causing its failure safely without damage. Then we live to fight on the next set of downs.

      • RenoBear

        Well yeah, there’s that too…

    • huntinbare

      LeBronish

    • Might be because there’s been a lot of scoring, and they expect two high powered offenses to score more.
Tune in to the Lions-Cards game. That’s far more interesting IMO

      • RenoBear

Yeah man, I’ve flipped already. Much more interesting game

    • huntinbare

They are mailing in the broadcast when they take the most obvious part of any contest and salivate over it. There are so many other aspects of a contest they could discuss and make the broadcast balanced… watch sports without the broadcasters…mute the worship.

    • AlbertInTucson

Um, the Redzone channel shows scoring plays. That’s what they do. It’s not their fault the Packers cooked up another 50-Burger today.

      • RenoBear

I get it man. They were showing them at their own 30 yd lines. Just makin an observation on the media fellatio of everything packers

  • Packers might blow teams out in the regular season, but they’re still soft. They’re not built for the playoffs.
A tough team with a run game and defense will run them out of the first round, again.

The Cards would be a perfect team, but losing Palmer is big.
Dallas might be able to, but their defense meddling at best.

    • If Detroit had a real HB, they’d be scary.
Maybe they try to resurrect Ray Rice?

      • BerwynBomber

Detroit has not had a short running game forever. Even Sanders wasn’t really known for that.

Having said that, the power running game is a lost art in today’s NFL.

        • Yeah, they have 3 scat backs, one of which is inj prone (Bush).
Rice might be a good pick up for them.
He won’t bust off long runs like before, but he can get those short yards, and can catch too.

          • BerwynBomber

That Bell kid can slam a bit but like most teams the Kittens don’t employ a FB do they?

SF has a power running game but there aren’t a lot in the league.

          • Well, SF has KILLED GB the last few seasons. That’s the kind of team that will boot GB from the playoffs again.
I’m just not sure SF will make the playoffs this year. They look VERY shaky and would need to go on a serious late season run.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, if Thompson and the Cheese have half-a-brain they will draft DTs and MLBs with their first few picks in the draft.

        • huntinbare

          Think wisconsin

    • huntinbare

I think a heavy hitting secondary/linebacker team that has speed cancels out GB…I hope we draft in that direction…I have this sense that GB thinks we are soft

      • We ARE soft…and passionless, and clueless (hence name).
We def need an attitude adjustment.
Some angry athletes on D and a real DC wouldn’t hurt, either.

        • huntinbare

          Perfect

        • huntinbare

It bothered me to have the laughter on the GB sideline broadcast and commented upon…I know it probably happens; but to shiw us up that way….. That shoukd be on a loop in the licker room next year durung the week of our 2 games with them

    • BerwynBomber

I feel the same. Kudos to Rodgers but I’m not sold on a team that can’t consistently run in the cold weather. Lacy looks fat and hesitant this year. And their D is only so-so over the course of the year.

    • I still don’t think they can handle SEA or SF if either of those 2 makes the playoffs.

Down year for the NFC though.

  • GPLDAN
  • BerwynBomber

Here’s the odd thing: other than the WTF time management at the end of the first half and the fourth and goal call, Trestman largely outcoached Zimmer. The latter apparently hadn’t heard that most of our passing attack O consists of dump-offs, screens and bombs.

Can’t say I was overly impressed with Minny. Barr’s an athlete but he did nothing against us and Marshall and Jeffrey absolutely pantsed their CBs. Bridgewater? Not sold. Seemed like he was toast if his primary was covered.

Anyway, a solid win. Much needed.

    • BearDown100393

The Bears offense was in complete disarray early in the 1st quarter, largely due to penalties. It began to straighten out once Matt Forte took over the running game. Matt was an absolute beast today. That seemed to stabilize the offense and open it up for the passing game.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Solid” win?

Just a win. It was just the Vikings, AKA “Good for what ails ya”.

    • I said before the game the weakness for CHI to attack was short passing. MIN has been awful defending it all year.

      http://dabearsbeat.com/2014/11/14/bearsvikings-matchup-when-bears-have-the-ball/

  • tobijohn

We’re in the wrong division. Two 4-6 teams tied for first place in the NFCS and a 3-7 team only one game out of it…

  • wreckinball

Wow Philly sucking up a fart

  • BerwynBomber

Pep with his second pick six of the year.

    • johnnywad

Turns out I was wrong about him too. Although the Bears never could have paid him the terms of his contract

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

didn’t matter. he did not want to be a Bear anymore so fuck him

        • johnnywad

That is true. Now I feel better

        • if he was in CHI still, he would be playing just like he did last year.

    • AlbertInTucson

He lost weight and got back in shape for this season.

Last season we thought the trouble was a foot problem.

Turns out he was just fat and out of shape.

      Thanks, Pep.

  • This offense means nothing to Cutler. He makes no plays in rhythm. Idea that changing offense will impact him is fallacy. – Jeff Tweet

Sorta true. I would almost wager that Cutler in 2nd year under Shanahan is probably the same statistically as Cutler 8 years later in 2nd year under Trestman.

    • I feel like this is just screaming for a response from me.

Statistically, his YPA has not changed much in his career. Been between 7 and 7.5 every year but 2009 (6.6). Right in the middle of that so far this year.

TD percentage is among the highest of his career right now at about 5.5%. INT % about average just above 3% (actually higher than that 2nd year in Denver).

But yeah, the only thing that really changed in regards to Jay is his completion %, which is at 66% now and has never even touched 64% before. Pretty much everything else has been more or less the same throughout his career.

      • I saw that too.
I actually looked at Cutler’s best year in DEN, the 3rd year.
Cutler this year projects to be about the same.
Almost same amount of INTS, FUMs, etc
Interestingly enough, his QB Rating would be a little higher this year than in Den, but his QBR would be waaay lower.

        Here it is.

        http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/9597/jay-cutler

        • passer rating factors in completion % a lot. That’s really the only reason he’s in the 90s instead of 80s right now

          • Yeah, if a person would go off QBR, one might argue that Cutler now (QBR 59) actually has REGRESSED since his 3rd year (QBR 72.1)
            Sorta depressing.
To argue otherwise one would have to say that Shanahon is a much better play caller than Trestman, or something along those lines.

  • wreckinball

Well someone else getting embarrassed at lambeau

  • wreckinball

    Nightmare for Sanchez

  • wreckinball

    Holy shit

    • johnnywad

      What?

      • wreckinball

Just remarking on the ass beating Philly is taking

        • johnnywad

          Oh. Not watching it.

  • Cormonster

Strange week in the NFL. So far GB is the only team to score more than 30 points. Most of the games were low scoring this week. All the people who bet the overs got spanked today.

  • Borland, 12 tackles, 2 ints, including one to ice it.
    But, nah, we’re good.

    • BerwynBomber

He reminds me a bit of Chris Spielman — an undersized MLB who was a kamikaze and made plays all over the field.

      • I was thinking of Zach Thomas.
Are we being racist for only thinking of white LBs? lol
OK, I’ll throw in London Fletcher.

        • BerwynBomber

Yeah, Thomas is a good comp too and more recent. Fletcher’s such a wide body I never considered him undersized even though he’s shorter than six feet.

      • Cormonster

That is exactly who he reminds me of, even as a college player.

    • Cormonster

Borland is one of my all time favorite players. All he does is produce and play 100% all the time.

Butch, did you happen to catch any of the Wisconsin game yesterday where MG3 (Melvin Gordon III) ran for 408 yards? You know who is lead blocker was yesterday at fullback? Derek Watt, JJ Watt’s younger brother. He’s been hurt most of the year but played a lot of snaps yesterday. Another younger brother is a redshirt freshman TE.

      • I didn’t catch it, but I def will. That’s amazing, and I love running backs.
The last HB I was really excited about was AP. I loved him in college, and liked his back story.
You think MG3 has a shot of going in the top 10?
Can he catch and pass block? Is he more of a zone stretch runner, or just a beast no matter what?
Can’t wait to check him out.

        • Cormonster

He could be top 10. He’s averaged 8.3 yards per carry the last three years. He has a great combination of power and burst. He can just explode through a hole or accelerate to the outside and beat guys. His straight line speed is not the best, but his explosive burst is amazing.

He can block, but isn’t used a lot in the passing game. I think he could excel there though at the next level. LT wasn’t used much in the passing game in college but did well in the pros.

His work ethic and competitiveness is top notch. He is determined to be the best. Most of his best games are against elite competition in the big games. Nebraska was a top 20 defense until yesterday. Check out some film and let me know what you think. Maybe even just check out some highlights from yesterday. Here’s a video from part of last year. He’s a lot better now.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgJ3yMytR5Y

          • Awesome, Corm. I’ll def check it out. I love viewing HB film. I guess it came from watching Sweetness and Sanders, and in L.A., Bo Jackson and Dickerson.

I think this past draft was sorta weak in HB. Crowell, Mason and maybe West I think have the best shot of making a difference, but not sure if any are true “blue chips”

            8.3 is insane.

That is like Bo Jackson stats.

          • Cormonster

The ypc record is 7.1 by Mike Rozier for any back with at least 400 carries in college ball. Obviously Gordon is blowing that number away. Kirk Herbstreet compares Gordon to Dickerson at the beginning of the posted video. Gordon makes a lot of good defensive players look like D2 guys when they try to tackle him, and quite a few guys have gotten hurt over the years trying to tackle him.

          • SC Dave

In the same way that people here worry about Alabama DBs (give the typical dominance of their front 7 on D), I worry about Wisconsin RBs given the typical dominance of Wisconsin OLs.

          • I’ve seen some scouts say Gordon will be a midround pick. Compared him to Andre Williams, the rookie in NY who was awesome in college but went in 4th round because he’s not a fit for modern NFL (aka runner only).

I think Gordon is more talented than Williams, but it will be interesting to see where he goes in the draft (and then what he does in the NFL).

          • Cormonster

Are you looking at 2012 data? Gordon is a lock for a first round pick, early 2nd round would surprise me. The ONLY way he doesn’t go that high is if he has some kind of major injury.

I watch a lot of college football, and Gordon is one of the best backs I’ve seen in the last twenty years who is NFL ready.

          • From watching that vid, you know who he reminds me of?
            Forte.
He’s definitely a glider, with wiggle, vision and patience. He runs a little upright too, like Forte.
Like you said, his straight line speed isn’t Dickerson-ish, but it’s probably faster than Forte, and obviously, he’s probably a little more physical.
Though it didn’t show his pass blocking or catching skills that much, as we all know, Forte excels in those.
I think what impressed me most about him was his patience and vision, and yes, initial burst.
Those are good combinations to have. I think he would excel in a zone blocking scheme, like Forte or Arian Foster.

          • Cormonster

That’s a pretty good comparison. Jamaal Charles is another guy who Gordon reminds me of. What last year’s tape doesn’t show, or the highlight reels don’t show, is how tough he runs between the tackles. He has gotten a lot stronger the last two years. I think he can be a power runner in the NFL too. He should also be able to develop into a good receiver. His Forte-like moves in the open field are perfect for the dump off routes and screen passes.

          • I thought about Charles too. But Charles is playing so out of his mind right now, I wouldn’t dare lol
Historically, off the top of my head, I would say he runs closet to Marcus Allen, but with a bit more power (though Allen lowered his pads more than ppl think).
I think he’ll def go 1st round, though it’s hard to predict with the NFL so devaluing that position, plus the combine, and pass protection, etc.
But he looks really promising. If he wins the Heisman, that’ll help.

  • BerwynBomber

This just in: Rodgers and Brady are capable of strafing good teams too. Ask Philly and Denver.

  • Gronk giving an extended interview on how to beat him. Then again, who’s strong enough to jab him at the line?
Also, Brady remarks Gronk’s one handed catch greatest he’s ever seen.
I’m pretty sure Brady and Harrison saw a better catch in SB XLVI

    • BerwynBomber

Still bizarre that Tyree’s helmet catch was the last catch of his career.

  • Any prognostications for the late game?
I think Bill has Andrew’s number. They’ll frustrate him, and Luck will get a ton of yards, but throw picks and incompletes in crucial downs.
    Pats win by +7.

(HOWEVER, if Luck finally beats the Pats, watch-out. He might be SB ready. This is effectively a playoff game, and Luck has been Cutler-ish in the playoffs).

    • wreckinball

He just pulled a Cutler trying to force it

  • wreckinball

Good game Luck would be the #1 pick again today

  • Jack Lacan

Once again – Jay / Trestman — What’s in your wallet?

  • AlbertInTucson

My take away from the game?
The Vikings are so good, either.

Didn’t post early because, frankly, I had NO IDEA what to expect today.

Happy to have a game I could sit thru in it’s entirety.

    A win was nice, too.

Also nice: Seeing the Bears exploit their size advantage on the outside.

Marshall waving before the snap on the 3rd TD was a hoot. Cutler then looking everbody off to the left so nobody would try and go help on Brandon, then calmly tossing the ball into right side of the endzone like a point guard feeding his power forward in the low post.

    On the OTHER hand…

Denver and Peyton Manning put up a 7 spot?

The 49ers pick Eli FIVE times and still just put up 16 and sweat it out?

The Packers are equal opportunity humliators.

New Orleans spanked at home. By the BENGALS?!

  • AlbertInTucson

The Patriots lead the league in penalties and yet….

  • AlbertInTucson

My Cordarelle Patterson premonition failed to materialize. Whew.

  • Big Mike

Not feeling as crappy as I was about going to watch them next week

    • BerwynBomber

Lovie with a win too. Should be fun next week.

  • Anthony Costonzo doing the Zoidberg

  • Beware the Jericho

seriously, fuck most of you pussies.

  • BerwynBomber

Crappy game from Brady and the Pats still manage to roll. On the road no less. Impressive.

  • Two types of teams on a roll:

Pats and Packers. Potent O makes D better than they should be.
Cards and Chiefs. Tough D and Specials, grind out wins.

History says the former wins in the regular season, while the latter in the post-season, but in this age of pass happy rules, it’ll be interesting.

Then again, the Seahawks crushed the Donkeys last SB.

    Hmmmm

    • NE is legit. Their D is good.

GB is still too soft in the trenches on both sides of the ball to do much in the playoffs, IMO.

      • Pat’s D with Revis makes all the difference (esp when teams are playing from behind).
Lock Revis up on best weapon.
Put a S over the top of 2nd best weapon.
Leave other S for run support, or to wreak havoc and confusion.

That plus Bill’s mind/schemes + opposing teams becoming one dimensional. Force.

Still, it’s amazing how ONE guy (Gronk) makes that much of a difference.
Before Gronk everyone was talking about how this might be Brady’s last year.

        • they also have IMO the best coverage S in the game. Those 2 combined give them a ton of options. They can stop the pass without a ton of bodies, so they can then throw a ton of bodies to shut down the run.

I though NE was the best team in the NFL at the start of last year, but they never put it together with everybody healthy at the same time. Now they kind of have that (though Mayo done for year again), and IMO they are the best team in the NFL.

NE wasn’t the best team in the NFL at the start of last year, They lost their 3 top weapons… Walker, Hernandez, Gronkowski

          • that’s why I said if they were healthy. By the time their O got healthy last year, the D was decimated by injuries. And Gronk never really got fully healthy last year.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

They went to the AFC Championship with about 5 rookies starting, 3 of them UFA.
And people thought they are on the decline. Which tells you a lot about how much people really understand american football or team sports in general.

        • Gronk really is the offensive version of JJ Watt, IMO. He’s just transcendently good in all phases of the game. he blocks better than most “blocking” TEs and can run and catch like Jimmy Graham, only he’s not a pussy like Graham. If you try to get physical with him (the way to shut Graham down), he just laughs and knocks you on your ass en route to the end zone.

When he’s healthy he’s the best offensive player in the game IMO.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

They don’t just ‘Put a S over the top of 2nd best weapon’. They put the best S in the NFL over the top.
That being said… as last night showed he’ll put Revis on the possession type of WR. The most trusted WR of the QB. That’s psychological move right there.
And he’ll put Browner on the big time TE. Fleener killed him last night, but 2 weeks ago the shut down Julius Thomas. That might have made him cocky and disrespectful of the Colts TE.

    • Barb UMihai Mar

      I disagree.
You might argue Pats D makes Pats O better instead of the other way around.
Last night they stopped the run, shut down TY Hilton-Reggie Wayne duo and didn’t allow for Luck scrambles. That’s elite stuff.

Motherfuckers keep disrespecting the Patriots. Please Vegas keep giving me easy money.

Wait… wasn’t the Patriots D just a bunch of bums, wannabes and washed out guys ? What was it ? They can’t stop the run, defend the big time WRs and pressure the QB?

    Yeah…got it.

PS: I talked on the blog 3 months ago about the RB Gray. I was praying Emery would deal a high draft pick for him and CB Butler. Thanks for not doing that… he belongs to an Offense that understands the run game.

    • If Gray was so great, how come it took Bill till week 11 to “unleash” him?
Really, it wasn’t until Ridley got hurt that he was even promoted from the practice squad.
Much like when Bledsoe went down and Brady took over.

Though I do agree we should have gotten a better back than fucking Carey.

      • Carey is averaging 4.8 ypc this year. It’s a small sample size, but the kid looks like he belongs.

Now if only the clueless coaches would use him.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

His pass protection is impressive also.

      • Barb UMihai Mar

Stop the bashing of Carey… he should have been stolen from the Patriots in place of Draughn.

On why it took Belichick 11 weeks to unleash him and why he initialy put him on the practice squad… he went with Ridley-Vereen-high round pick RB.

He’s obsessed with Special team role of every non starter guy. So if you’re not a ST contributor it’s close to impossible having a place as the 3rd-4th RB on his team.
Thing is… Gray played in preseason like he did last night. My mouth was salivating when they put him on the practice squad.

  • GP…JONAS GRAAAAAYYYYYYvy train choo choo by

  • Nice to see the Bears win, but same damn issues with this team.

    -Offensive balance? What’s that?
-Clock management before halftime? What’s that?
-Special teams? Oh, they’re special all right.
    -Discipline? What’s that?

They won today because they are vastly more talented than Minnesota across the board on offense. But the same stupid mistakes they’ve been making all year made this a one score game instead of a 20+ point blowout.

      • Beware the Jericho

they’ll play other little motherfuckers and as long as they keep going to the big dogs consistently good things can happen. Fuck Josh Robinson and fuck other 5’11 and 6’0 CB’s on other teams. From now on, any other corner we play is called Josh.

        • haha. What surprised me most was that the Vikings kept leaving him one-on-one, when every other team left the safeties back to help the CBs.

When they asked the Vikes, they said, ‘That’s how we play D’.

          Pretty fucking idiotic.

      • Barb UMihai Mar

        I wouldn’t ridicule the Vikings D. They’re way better than Bears D.
They just had to be on the field for about 55 minutes.
