Good riddance Mr. Nessman. Dave Toub for HC.

  • KentuckyBearsFan

Well, the Bears did go undefeated in practice this year. That’s something.

    Wait. No, it isn’t.

    • BearDown100393

Man growing happens in practice apparently.

  • huntinbare

M.C.Wright at ESPN says that 80-85% of this teams problems are a direct result of bad personnel moves. He admits Mr. T’s coaching staff -deservedly-take some heat; Emery dealt them a horrible hand from a personnel standpoint.

    • Viva

80 to 85% huh? Interesting math. Using that logic, I would venture to guess that 99% of Wright’s article was written by Nessman’s agent.

      • DaBearsBlog

Notice how nobody writes anything or reports anything defending the front office. Why? They don’t leak.

      • huntinbare

Even M.C.Wright has a storefront where everything inside can be had for a price.

    • CanadaBear

I have no idea of the percentage of blame but all of them need to go. Emery put a very flawed team together and Nessman couldn’t lead a pack of boy scouts on a hike.

      • huntinbare

Well; in today’s world one of the crafty scouters would wip out his cell phone with gps and straighten out the wayward leader. Boyscout motto…one lesson Mr. T can take away from his Bear experience….it helps when making halftime adjustments.
Your comment reminds me what the Beatle George sang….if you don’t know where you’re going any road will get you there.

  • Viva

    Bears 28
    Vikings 24

In a critical game last year against a shitty Viking team, we went into the game with a change to put more pressure on the resurgent Pack. Having given up a 10 point lead half way through the 4th quarter, we managed to get into overtime. Trestman made the insane (or savant) decision to attempt a 47 yard FG on 2nd down and 7. Gould missed. AP went on to gash us for 51 of his 200+ on the day yards, and we lost in OT. To end the season we needed to win in Philly or at home against the pack. We lost both.

Moral of the story, when we need to win we don’t. Today is not a need game for us, and winning will actually cost us value in the draft. Opposites occur when Tresticle is involved. Hence, Bears win today.

    • johnnywad

I had completely forgotten about that field goal attempt. Holy shit, let’s get this over with.

    • SC Dave

The Chicago Bears have rarely won when they really needed to in the past 50 years. Nothing new here.

  • beninnorcal

I’m with you, Viva, on the Toub nomination.

And I’m with you, Jefe, on good riddance to the ’14 Bears.

The future is a mystery for them Bears.

My fingers and toes are crossed.

“He’s the first one in the building, last one to leave now, his
leadership is through the roof,” Marshall said on Wednesday’s edition of
Inside Training Camp Live. “He’s correcting the coaches. This is his offense. This is his organization, he’s running it, and I love it.”

Must be Jay Cutler’s fault right? Or do we just call out Brandon Marshall as a complete idiot and liar to boot? Maybe just nuts?

    A bit more:

“Kind of like the artist, like the musician you know how they say, ‘This
next album is going to be the killer! This next album, you guys aren’t
going to know anything! It’s going to be totally different! This is
it!'” he said. “This is how I’m doing my game. I’m approaching it like
    I’m an artist.”

“I like it! Can we name my next season the Thriller?”

And BTW Marshall now wants to fight Dominic Raiola.

    • johnnywad

He also said Devin Hester was a #1 wide receiver. I think I’d just ignore his mouth and let his game do the talking.

    • BillW

I applaud him dealing with his issues. Unfortunately part of that seems to be these incoherent speeches from time to time. Like a crazy uncle it’s best ignored

  • Barb UMihai Mar

Ted Phillips, Chris Ballard team could be future of Bears
    Mike Florio

Major changes could be coming for the Bears; it’s still unclear how high up the organization chart the pinks slips will fly.

At a time when even long-time team president Ted Phillips couldn’t escape the scuttlebutt of a potential termination, the current thinking is that Phillips won’t be fired — and that his Hail Mary pass will consist of bringing back Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard as the team’s new General Manager.

Last year, the Chiefs denied Tampa Bay’s request for permission to interview Ballard for the G.M. job, at Ballard’s request. Ballard, as of a year ago, wanted to stay in Kansas City.

This time around, Ballard could choose to return to Chicago, where he spent 12 years under former G.M. Jerry Angelo and (for one year) current and apparently-soon-to-be-former G.M. Phil Emery.

The biggest question — and the greatest current unknown — will be the new coach in Chicago. If the team is determined to keep quarterback Jay Cutler, the guy that makes the most sense is former Raiders, Broncos, and Washington coach Mike Shanahan, who traded up in the 2006 draft to get Cutler.

    • Barb UMihai Mar

Question for dummies: why would the Bears want to keep Cutler ? And if they want to keep him, why the fuck would they fire Emery ?

If these motherfuckers sack Emery… they are obliged to send Cutler packing…even if for a conditional 8th round pick. If they don’t it’s a big fucking farce.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

Why is Emery tied to Cutler? Why would it be a farce?

        • johnnywad

          Fasten your seat belt.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

the real question should be “Why are we thinking of picking up an Angelo lacky to replace Emery?” I will admit – i don’t know anything about Ballard, but they hired Emery over him a couple years ago, so what is so special about this guy?

          • dwhnt47

EXACTLY. Why another guy “connected” to the last regime? I was hoping for some real change in a positive direction by robbing the front office of a perennially successful organization like New England…

          • CanadaBear

Problem with that is it’s all Bellichik. Just about every guy that has been hired away from the Pats has failed, coaches and personnel men.

          • huntinbare

Well said…I believe that over thinking influences and stalls the intuition or knowing; over thinking has torpedoed successful outcomes and brought about the failures of life at a greater rate than any other negative aspect we allow.
Our thinking is tied deeply to our conditioning. Consequently having someone who has been heavily conditioned by Angelo and Emery is just repeating the same experience again; and I hope we do not go through the past unless it is 1985.

          • johnnywad

No idea. If they clean house, I want new blood in from top to bottom. No thanks to the retreads.

          • BillW

I had to read that again to catch your point. He actually was passed over for emery. Then worked for emery and left (fired?) and now we think he’s the savior? Someone teddy thought was worse than emery is now the answer? And the Bears are going to buy into that?
George is going to let the bean counter play football czar again?
I hope this is not accurate

        • SC Dave

          Um… the contract.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

Well you can’t fire Emery and keep Cutler. Because if you keep Cutler why the fuck would you fire Emery ?
You fire Emery for signing Cutler and Trestman. If you keep Cutler that means you fired emery for hiring Trestman. That’s it ?

      • huntinbare

Emery does not have any impact on how JC performs on Sunday. He can impact him by hiring his superior; but ultimately the quality of play is on JC and it is evident he has had a terrible experience trying to lead this offense to success on the field. Although he has operated it with great levels of competency in practice; or so it has been reported. This tells me that he can do well when he knows what the D is going to bring; but when he faces the uncertanties of the NFL defensive schemes he gets forced out of his comfort zone and his level of success plumets.
This has nothing to do with Emery and everything to do with his preparations. I a starting to believe he needs to spend more of his time figuring out how to know/read what the D is forcing him into; and learn what the antidote is for that situation.
In a way I see Emery’s problems with his job as over thinking his player selection. Calculate according to your data; but you have to also have a good inner sense of knowing when making your choices.

    • BillW

So they try someone who has connection to another failed regime. That’s timid. I’m with hbp. Don’t know Ballard but the move itself seems weak

The only Johnny Paycheck I knew of before was the one who recorded TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT.

        • huntinbare

His name was Donald Lytle…he changed his name in 1964 to Johnny Paycheck after the boxer Johnny Paychek .
Mr. Paychek was part of a group named the “bum of the month club” by sone smart ass reporter; when Joe Louis strung together a series of fights before fighting a ranked contender.

One season does not a career make…if he plays every season like he did this season after he signs the big contract then he is something special

    • John Doe

Emery should be fired for a giving that stupid contract to Cutler. That is a big enough reason.

Emery will not be hired as a GM again. He is a scout not a GM.

      • Doc Hamstring

That contract was not stupid. It was a going-rate contract for a franchise QB.

        • johnnywad

That’s correct. And its also an unpopular fact on this blog. He was paid market rate. It was front loaded and the worst of it is over. I don’t see the Bears and Cutler parting ways at this point.

          • John Doe

Wrong. Cutler contract was the worst contract when compared to Kaepernick, Dalton, and Alex Smith.

Cutler contract had the most guarnateed money at $54 million.

Brad Biggs broke it down and compared it to Kaep, Alex Smith and Dalton contracts here.

The high price of pushing the reset button on offense for #Bears examined here. http://trib.in/1zWpAIr

          • BerwynBomber

Cutler’s is the most horrendous but Kaep’s and Smith’s aren’t fantastic either. Dalton’s is definitely the most team friendly. Only $20M total guaranteed, I believe.

          • John Doe

At least they are younger. And Kaep can run.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

Because they’re younger…you have leverage when you deal with 23 year old guys with pennies in the bank. Totally different when you deal with a 30 year old that has 30+ in the bank.

That being said 2-3 mln more per year is nothing. What difference does it make ? It means 0 mkn in 3 years… that’s how much they lost by cutting Peppers.

          • johnnywad

He almost certainly would have received a VERY comparable contract from another team. He likely had multiple options for a similar contract that you and I will never hear about because the Bears locked him up and he wanted to stay. Hence, market value.

I get that you don’t like him, and want him gone, but that doesn’t change what the league would bear for his services.

          • John Doe

Let someone else be that that stupid team and stupid GM to pay him.

Jay Cutler had not earned that contract through his play on the field.

Emery, Trestman over-estimated how much they could fix him.

Emery’s admission during the bye week press conference that “Cutler’s old habits are hard to break” was an indirect acknowledgement of scouting mistake by Emery and Trestman.

It is not a question of liking Jay Cutler. He does not deserver that contract.

I would be perfectly happy with Jay Cutler as Bears QB at $8 million per year. And use the remaining $$ to improve defense.

The reason I am against Jay Cutler contract is because he is getting overpaid and not performing and taking resources ($$) away from defense and thus delaying Bears improvement.

          • johnnywad

In hindsight, you’re right. He didn’t earn the money he made this year. But its water under the bridge. He makes a lot less next year and less after that. If I’m controlling the Bears, he stays next year and we draft a quarterback early. I’m not interested in any of the bull shit retreads that are coming available.

          • John Doe

He is not a $15 million QB either.

          • johnnywad

Okay, so let’s say I agree with you. What’s your plan? Who are you bringing in and for how much? If you’re talking $8-10M for Sanchez or Bradford, not thanks.

I don’t begrudge your position. But you have to have a realistic plan moving forward. Just showing Cutler the door isn’t enough.

          • BerwynBomber

I’d take Sanchez at $8M and invest the remaining $7M in two D starters. That would be my plan. Cutler only makes sense if you feel you are true contender with him. Otherwise his contract just delays the future.

Btw, I’m not sure Sanchez or Bradford will go for $8M per. But the off-season of course will tell us.

          • johnnywad

I just can’t see giving Bradford a contract. His legs have got to be shot by now.

Sanchez. Okay maybe. He hasn’t been great but perhaps with some of the current talent on the Bears Roster. I don’t know about the math either. Look what Josh McCown got for three good games in the last decade.

          • BerwynBomber

You are only defending it by saying a few other teams would have been stupid too. That is not a standard you want to set as a front office.

          • johnnywad

I’m not defending him. He didn’t play well. I’m saying he received what the market would bear. There’s a difference. The market is always set by the high bidders is it not?

          • John Doe

It is Emery’s job to realize the market has gotten stupid and let someone else have him.

the big point – that Emery is not a GM and was stupid to give Cutler that contract – still stands.

          • BerwynBomber

Yes by stupid high bidders. Defending the Cutler contract seems insane to me. It was a horrendous contract/decision. I don’t get the debate. Honestly.

          • johnnywad

If you had just hired Trestman, and the offense was clicking like it did, you would have let Cutler walk last December? I doubt that. No way Emery could do that given the season they had just had. So he had to pay him. I’m not even sure I want Emery back and Im not going to continue defemding him. The Trestman hire alone is a fireable offense. I’m just saying the contract has to be viewed in the proper context. Its very easy to look back now and say it wasn’t worth it.

          • BerwynBomber

I would have, at most, franchised him. At most. But I haven’t bought Cutty and his potential for a few years.

          • John Doe

Cutler had played just 11 games with Trestman. Just 11.

Not even a full 16 game season.

And Cutler was up and down in those 11 games.

So the decision to make him franchise QB was questionable.

Plus, because Cutler was trying to get his big contract, he played nice with Trestman and Kromer. He was doing more things that the coaches were asking him to do.

Once he got his big contract, he started giving middle finger to coaches.

Once a punk, always a punk.

They would have gotten more out of him on a franchise tag because it would be in his interest to do so.

          • BlameAngelo

In fairness, we all thought we’d go 11-5, 12-4 his year … not the other way round.

          • BillW

I thought the contract made sense. That was based on the assumption trest and kromer and cutler were all happy together. I doubt they were and if they weren’t then someone should have let emery know that.

          • johnnywad

Agreed. Its easy to armchair quarterback it a year later. Very difficult in real time.

        • BerwynBomber

It was a going rate contract for an elite QB. Cutty was the highest paid player in NFL this year. The $54M guaranteed is the fourth most in the NFL. You really think that contract is defensible? That is insane.

          • John Doe

No point trying to convince Cutler Apologists.

Emery will forever be known as the GM who gave Jay Cutler $126.7 million contract with $54 million contract – a player who had done nothing to earn that kind of money.

This fact alone will keep him away from the GM job.

          • BerwynBomber

Other GM jobs but I would not be shocked if the Bears retain him.

          • John Doe

PFT report was strongly hinting he is a goner.

George McCaskey will keep wasting his money if he does not do a complete reset.

New coach + old GM or Old Coach + new GM does not work.

Bring in a new regime that have the same duration contract. That is the only way to fast track Bears recovery.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

Wait a fucking second…didn’t they do Old Coach + new GM with Lovie-Emery ?

Blind Squirrel. Nut. Worst ever defense. Nah. No passes. Airlock the fucking lot of them.

Somebody will overpay for Cutty and Forte. They’re all we have to offer. There’s easily three picks in the top two rounds right there. Add our own top two picks and there’s a brand spanking new defense right there. Leonard Williams, Landon Collins, two DEs, a LB and a RB. Any RB will do. Let Fales and Clausen lead us through mediocrity for another few years as we build it. Dan Quinn as chief architect. Offload the hillbilly too and we are looking good salary wise.

I guess I’ll pull for DET?

    • Doc Hamstring

Screw them. I’d rather have the Packers win the division and then Rodgers’ hamstring dump them out of the playoffs in the first round. The Lions can go lose to Carolina.

      • SC Dave

What, so fucking DALLAS can win?

well i think that we still would have had problems this year but you just can’t discount the loss of Brandon Marshall….and we all know that we lost him in the first game of the season. He was a shell of himself this year because of injury and it attacked his mental state as well.
A healthy Marshall next year will add at least 2 wins without doing anything else.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

Who acquired Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett and Wilson ? Mother Teresa ?

          • SC Dave

Same guy that extended Cutler. It’s a package deal.

          • huntinbare

            Agreed… He was missed

          • SC Dave

Not so pessimistic as you on the defense. We just need to not have so relentless a string of 3 and outs in the first half next season.

      • SC Dave

I’m sure it is just the particular rose tit of my glasses, but I think back and of all the bad luck, I have to go with Dusty Dvorcek. I kinda thought he was our next Steve McMichael. No media star – just a dozen year starter on The Only Team I Care About.

    • BearDown100393

Phillips cares about the bank accounts. The family is clueless. Emery should understand that “pride” component but the jury is out. He failed when hiring Trestman. Values such as pride and tradition are simply rhetoric to Marc Trestman. The locker room never respected Trestman and never got over the firing of Lovie Smith. The quarterback is not a captain of the team. George McCaskey spoke of a structured hierarchy. It is anything but. The problems extend far beyond simply being a “bad football team”.

    • SC Dave

Imbeciles. Bears still #1, as always.

  • huntinbare

For whom the Bell Tolls…tomorrow at 11:00 a.m

The Bears lost nine games to teams that either made the playoffs or are fighting for playoff berths in week 17. There is that!

    • Barb UMihai Mar

That’s rocky stuff…. the Bills, Dolphins and Vikings aren’t part of either group.

Wait…how many games they lost ?

      • Trac

Bills and fins were still in it until some of the early games wrapped up. I think.

        • AlbertInTucson

Nope. Buffalo and Miami were both non-factors this week.

  • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

It’s obvious that there is talent on the offensive side. It’s also obvious that our O Line is not anywhere near what people tried to explain that it was. The D was a huge issue this year and the specials were the worst i’ve ever seen as a bears fan.

The fix is that OL won’t be ignored. The dink and dunk offense is bullshit. A defensive minded coach will be hired but with a strong plan for the O pieces we already have and an OC that can utilize the pieces in place right now so the overhaul can be focused on D.

Trestman lost the team and Gould and Mannelly were quick to point that out the other day. Bushy, Groy, Garza, DLP and Mills played some god awful football this year. I don’t know if i’ve ever seen more 2nd and fucking 9’s, 10’s and even 11’s as a result of 1st down rushing attempts.

The pre snap penalties is not really on Trestman, that’s just bad football and is what you see in grade school, high school and maybe college.

D is worst of all time and can only be addressed in the draft. Allen, Houston, DJ, Briggs and the rest of the crew were just old and outclassed. The rookies played like average rookies.

    More to come later.

    • BillW

Never having played football I really struggle to understand why so many presnap penalties. I get lack of concentration etc. That explains any one penalty. But why so many? Is there anything to the idea that an overall sense of permissivness contributes? . Lack of discipline or consequence? Coddling of players?

Makes no sense to me. Never got better. Seems to me the players had no fear of being benched.

      • BearDown100393

Alshon Jeffery’s number seems to come up quite a bit on false starts.

        • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

no one wants to talk about it but Alshon regressed this year even though his numbers say he did ok.

          • SC Dave

No one can be when the ball is not thrown where he can catch it. Much of Alshon’s success last season was because McCown could throw the ball in the right place.

      • SC Dave

Only in the sense the repeat offenders were not sent to the practice squad, where they could learn what a snap count is. But they should have known that in pee-wee

    • BlameAngelo

Dink and dunk worked pretty well for Joe Montana et al. If you’ve got the players, any system works.

  • huntinbare

Another angry Jay story by a fan on Doug and OB….
Fan of 64 years drives to the game and stays in hotel where team is…is in the lobby yesterday when players are filing through….Jeffrey and Allen chatted and signed autographs for him then the fan and his wife watch Jay walking slowly through the lobby so they follow him through the doors and the guy says , excuse me Mr. Cutler I have been a fan of yours for a long time will you sign my football?….JC…No…boom
The guy goes on to say he lost sleep over this encounter…his wife tries to console him by saying how nice the other players were…
Please sign stuff Jay, show respect…swallow your pride, you will not die…it is not poison…
Now I know this does not mean he is a bad talent; but good god in heaven…he cared enough to drive to Minny to cheer for you…thank him at least and sign a piece of paper or a napkin…
OB and Doug were not happy with his No

    • BillW

It’s well known Jay despises interacting with fans. A guy who has been his fan for so long should have known that.

That’s not an excuse. Just saying it’s not news

      • huntinbare

It just sounds bad; after what they have put up this year he should be a bit more humble when dealing with the ” image” of the franchise…especially when it set him up for life
I ran into this side of Jay the year he was signed…I never spoke of it: but this continued behaviour shows a side of him that may be reflective as to why he cannot raise the level of play of the team mates that surround him.
Happiness and gratitude is contageous; it is a side of his game that keeps him from synching success with his talent in my humble opinion.

        • BillW

His attitude could be an issue for the team as well. In some way or another. He’s not much of a leader in my view though that’s for his teammates to decide.

    • BearDown100393

Assuming it is true. And if it is, no need to curse a football with that signature anyway.

          • Jack Lacan

Even the concussion wracked Troy Aikman thought that call was absurd…

Sorry boys that’s one more opinion…

          • AlbertInTucson

I believe Aikman’s take was more along the lines of he wished the rule had been there when HE played, which it wasn’t.

When I have re-watched the ’85 season games available on that DVD set, it is STUNNING to watch the shots McMahon takes that WOULD have drawn flags now, but didn’t then.

    2000…#9…Brian Urlacher
    2001…#8…David Terrell
    2005…#4…Cedric Benson
We have gotten our return on 1 top 10
Do we trust the current leadership to get #7 correct?

    • BearDown100393

Don’t worry. Emery could trade down.

      • or he could draft a 5’7″ FS from a D2 school that no one else thinks deserve to be on a team’s practice squad.

      • John Doe

Or Emery will pick the best athlete with the best measurables.

And they can coach them up on how to play football.. just like Jon Bostic or Brandon Hardin.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

Brandon Hardin was a bust, but one should appreciate the rationale behind that pick… Brandon Hardin was similar with Kam Chancellor in body type.
          He understood the trend.

          • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

i know it sounds racist but i’ll never equate any white DB with a Cam Chancellor type.

          • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

Chancellor is the kind of DB that you get and you know you have that next “hybrid” position player that can cover in space a bit and bring wood to the line and in the secondary.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

That’s what he wanted. The player was a total bust, but the thought was very good… and that’s a very important part.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

It’s not… still there are some bad ass white S in the NFL.

          • BlameAngelo

How was Hardin a bust? Urlacher said he flew around. He got injured and none of us know what he was as a football player. A bust is a player that gets drafted high and then doesn’t play well.

        • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

Bostic was an absolute beast in college. No one could have predicted how ineffective the NFL version would be.

          • willbest

At the time it seemed like a great pick and he does have the physical attributes to play LB. I feel he is being screwed over by Shea. Bostic doesn’t appear to have the football IQ to play Mike, but perhaps with better coaching he could be competent at Sam. But Emery couldn’t just admit his first pick was an absolute bust.

          • SC Dave

Pathetic – so that Bostic sux is McClellin’s fault? The only rationale for that would be racism.

          • willbest

It was ridiculous Shea started the season as Sam and that he didn’t lose it to Christian Jones after Atlanta. If you want want to attribute it to his skin color be my guest. But then Briggs was still on the field after he checked out.

      2007 …#8…Jamaal Anderson
      2008 …#3…Matt Ryan

      2009 …#3…Tyson Jackson
      2010 …#5…Eric Berry

This is not about credit. It’s plain information.

          • huntinbare

For me it is trying to determine if he knows what he is doing going forward so I would have liked to know if he initiated those ideas regarding the picks or just jumped on board of somebody else’s research and ideas….right now he is in charge of the final say.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

            fuck you…

        • SC Dave

?!? He was stuck with his “leadership” – Jay Cutler

          • huntinbare

I am making the point that although I was wholeheartedly in Emery’s corner in the begining; I am having my doubts about him now; sort of wavering. I can look past some talent choices; it is not an exact science. But when I see the dysfunction amongst the internal psyche of the players and coaches; I look for this to be handled from the top when it goes bad. He needed to make sure once the losses started to pile up; to be proactive and not let this get so out of hand. In my world this B.S. is his to fix and if it is not he needs to own it. Lovie lost some big games ; but it was never followed by an all out circus of clownish proportions. So I am a bit confused about Emery’s abilities going forward.
Lack of discipline from a team in the heat of crisis is not the Naval/ military way

          • CanadaBear

Not really. He could have franchised him last year or let him walk. He’s the dumb ass that gave Cutler that contract. Not to mention that other world class leader he picked, Les Nessman.

    • AlbertInTucson

1 for 3 works for baseball.

It does NOT work for football drafting.

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid because the Bears history of drafting in the first round since the glory days leading up to 1985 all to often reads like it was written by Stephen King.

The Urlacher selection is even MORE stunning when you recall that he played SAFETY at New Mexico so this was a rare case of the Bears drafting a guy, changing his position from college and coming up a winner. The antithesis of Shea McClellin and John Thierry flavored picks.

      • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

he was then played out of position at OLB with the Bears until ineffectiveness and an injury to the starting MLB resulted in the Urlacher experiment. People are quick to forget that “fans” starting calling Urlacher a bust in the very beginning.

      • huntinbare

Let me get this straight ….the one selection that did work out…is because we stumbled into it…..C’mon..lucky 7

        • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

lol, no lots of teams thought Urlacher was going to be awesome. The Bears put him at OLB and it was not working out well. He couldn’t use his speed as well at OLB. Luckily we had some no name dude at MLB so we replaced him and the rest is history.

          • huntinbare

That is what I am hoping for this years 7th; a consensuses sure thing on the board that actually works out

      • KentuckyBearsFan

The scary thing is if Tennessee chooses not to draft a QB, there’s a chance that Jameis Winston would be available at #7. If people think Manziel has character issues…Christ.

-TN? Needs a QB but may not like Winston
(does anybody want him to be the face of their franchise?)
-Oakland has Carr who shows promise
-Snyder still loves RGIII, enough even to fire his coach

The Marc Trestman Era consists of 32 regular season games, winning 13. Of those 13 wins, the Bears only beat 2 teams with winning records: ’13 Bengals and ’13 Packers. Note the Packers were only 8-7-1 and Josh McCown was the starter.

    • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

and the Pack didn’t have Rodgers. Got it. And when it came down to getting in the playoffs it took Conte fucking up twice to seal the defeat.

      • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

Trestman, that fucking ghoul, actually called badass games back in 2013. I don’t know what happened to that play caller but he fucked himself by becoming a pussy and running the pussiest version of the west coast of all time.

        • BillW

Excellent point. That’s the real story of the collapse of the offense

          • Anonymous Yahoo Poster

            Trestman’s playcalling regressed.
Bears O line was injured and inconsistent
Marshall and Jeffery were hurt almost all year
Wilson injured almost all year forcing street guys to take over
Bennett and Forte used incorrectly despite solid “numbers”
            Pre-snap and Post snap penalties.
            Cutler early turnovers

Those are all of the reasons right there.

          • Viva

442 Points Against is a huge number to overlook, J. Unless, of course, you are only focusing on the O side of the ball.

          • willbest

Well it works both ways. If your O can’t at least move the ball, losing the field position battle eventually leads to getting scored against.

          • BillW

That is a good summary of the offense problems. Not necessarily in that order but so many issues it adds up to what we saw

          • willbest

            That was just offense =)

          • BillW

My point being we scored around 30 a game. A regression might be normal but not to that extent. We still had above average talent. Play calling was clearly a major issue

          • SC Dave

The talent is far less than what you think it is.

          • SC Dave

No, the real story is players not making plays. I suppose it’s trestman’s fault that Garza failed to snap the ball?

      • BearDown100393

        • SC Dave

And, of course, that’s all Trestman’s fault

  • Barb UMihai Mar

I don’t think Jeff knows who plays RG for the Falcons… it’s Gabe Carimi.
    Now go win, baby !
Give Ryan the Bengals OL (Top 3 OL in the NFL for some time now) and he’d win at least 1 SB. Throw in the Bengals D and he’d win lots of them.

I wonder if Trestman’s flying back to Chicago or just thumbing his way to Canada since he’s almost there.

      • Viva

If he had any honor at all he would quit. He would walk away from the money, tell the world he was in way over his head, and find a new path. Instead, he benched a QB (there were several times this year that benching Jay would have served a far greater purpose) after the season was lost the day after his name was connected to the unemployment line in the media.

        His termination is long overdue.

Stop the Suh hate. Who says they are certain it was intentional is selling bullshit. Looked pretty natural to me.

    • BerwynBomber

Who is hating on him? He is a fuck of player but sometimes dirty. One step could have been argued as unintentional. The second killed such an argument. Stupid because if it results in a suspension it will be huge blow to the Kittens’ chances next week.

      • Barb UMihai Mar

he was looking the other way… so you have no proof. Looked natural movement to me.

    • AlbertInTucson

      “Looked pretty natural to me.”

      What were YOU watching?

He found his target with one foot and completed his mission with the other.

      Try and pay attention.

Suh is a WELL documented dirty football player. Any “Suh Hate” is his own damn fault.

The league would be well rid of him and his ilk.

      • Barb UMihai Mar

Yes… he’s gained a lot of attention and cash with his intentional ‘dirty ways’.
That being said nobody can state with certainty he wanted to step on the QB. Maybe that he didn’t do anything not to step on him, but not that he intended to.

He just ended up on top of him and didn’t rush getting off. Nothing dirty about that in my book… it’s like when a 300 lb DT smothers the QB just right after the ball is thrown… ‘hey I’m here… I might as well inflict some pain’.

  • Jack Lacan

    Goodbye Bob…

  • Jack Lacan

Don’t miss those foot stompin’ – Stompanato Lions at Dallas next week…

    • John Doe

Suh played his last snap for Lions today. He will be suspended against Dallas. And Lions will be eliminated next week.

  • BerwynBomber

Seattle is the first repeat #1 seed in the NFC in ten years. Rodgers, I assume, just won his second league MVP. And yes, Carolina and Chico will be hosting a playoff game next week. Moreover, they might even win.

    • willbest

I don’t see anybody but Dallas winning up there. GB is a completely different road team, and nobody else has an offense that can get over Seattle’s D.

      • BlameAngelo

Which is why we need to build a D not an O. The thing about great defenses is that NO offense works against them.

    • John Doe

Seahawks – Patriots Superbowl. Book it. Will be a great match up.

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora · 28s28 seconds ago

The 49ers have agreed to part ways with head coach Jim Harbaugh. He’s free to pursue any opportunity and a return to Michigan seems imminent

    • well. if they’ve parted ways and he’s free to pursue any opportunity, doesn’t that include NFL positions?

      • John Doe

The tacit understanding would be that Harbaugh is going to Michigan.

Otherwise, the 49ers would not release him and would want some compensation from any NFL team that wants him.

        • AlbertInTucson

“You’re not going to another team to come back and beat our brains out unless we get some draft picks.”

I think the ransom to go to another NFC team would have been steep.

    • AlbertInTucson

Supposedly, Michigan has told recruits they would have “somebody” in place by the end of the week. Supposedly $48M for 6 years and he’ll bring a lot of his staff with him which means The Wolverines will pony up top dollar for Harbaugh’s assistants.

  • BearDown100393

Peter King serves as the NFL voice piece once again suggesting Suh situation not as clear cut as Raiola.

    • John Doe

With change on the way, it’s time for #Bears to stop basing major decisions on Jay Cutler. http://trib.in/1tctFCs

    • Scott W.

That point and more from Dickerson. He pointed out the McCaskeys should be in a tizzy over how much this team has alienated the core fan base.
But it’s the Bears. Who knows what Monday will bring?

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

Several teams and probably the Bears are going to be hiring search firms to help find coaches. What is the point? Besides possibly a college coach isn’t there a fairly set number of candidates of available HCs and Coordinators. So there are probably 100 possible people you would be hiring from which i would think it would be fairly easy to narrow down to a list of 10-15 to interview.

so i got to agree with Jeff’s tweet from earlier today.

    DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog
How much do these search firms charge ownership to identify head coaching candidates? I’ll do it for 1/10 that amount. (It ain’t hard.)

    • Trac

Isn’t it a race to hire the best talent? Unless you go the route Emery went when he hired Trestman. I have zero expectations if Emery is still GM. Maybe that’s a good thing in a bad way.

    • NewBearInTown

I suspect the value isn’t in the names, its in the 100+ page packet of information that they compile to go with each candidate.

  • Viva

I know Dave Toub will be a great coach in this league, and I hope it is with the 2015 version of Da Club. If not, I’ll take Brian Billick or Rex Ryan.

Someone needs to address the fact that we gave up 442 fucking points this year.

    • Trac

Who will he hire as OC or DC? I don’t think he’s capable of scheming either side of the ball without some talented coordinators. Mike Tomlin was a special teams guy but he inherited a top notch coaching staff. I don’t like the idea to tell you the truth.

      • Viva

DT is a hard working tactician, who routinely out-schemes, out-prepares, out-executes his opponents. He has been doing so for years. He didn’t end up with top 5 ST units for all of these years by accident. He is deliberate, his guys buy-in, and he gets results. I can’t think of a guy who would merit more consideration. I think he will routinely school the fat bastard that roams the pack sidelines.

If I were the GM making the hire it would be a slam dunk. I would empower him to hire a staff, and tell him to get me 10 fucking wins next year. I don’t do flaccid.

        • BerwynBomber

He could be the next Cowher (another ST guy before PITT). We’ll see.

          • Viva

            John Harbaugh, Mike Ditka…

        • GPLDAN

          DO YOU HEAR THAT LADIES????

Viva does NOT do flaccid. Hooah!

          • Viva

            Get Some!

      • BerwynBomber

Yep, “Whom do you envision on your staff?” has to be a major question in HC interviews, though from what we have heard PE somewhat answered that question for Trestman. Btw, with someone like Toub I could see Cavanaugh surviving and being elevated to OC.

    • AlbertInTucson

Including 100 of that over 2 consecutive humiliations.

SOMEBODY should have been sent packing after the 2nd of those debacles.

BUT, some of that 442 lays the feet of the offense.

      • i think MB packed up his things and left after that second shellacking. does that count?

        • AlbertInTucson

Let me clarify: Somebody cashing a Bears paycheck.

  • GPLDAN

We waited all season for Trestman to publicly take an honest, sober view of his team, and he never did. It’s one thing to protect your players; it’s another to insult the intelligence of the fan base. The bull’s-eye on the head coach’s back might not be so big if he had been a straight shooter. – Rick Morrissey, Sun-Times

Exactly that. Trestman is a sniveling idiot. He reminds me of the lawyer who gets eaten on the can in Jurassic Park. There was never going to be straight talk from the guy’s mouth – it’s not in any cell of his being. And so he will get trashed tomorrow, and rightly so.

    • BearDown100393

Ted might need to remind George that the Bears already have one sniveling idiot with a law degree.

    • BillW

Can anyone find out if this story has any legs…a Chicago company, AAA Locksmith, was seen working on every door at Halas Hall today. Multiple crews were frantically working to change out every lock during todays Bears Vikings NFL game. On condition of anonymity one locksmith refused to provide any details; except to say that the company was hired by some fella named George; he refused to say anymore as he had one more stop for the day at a stadium on the lakefront.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

are they still using locks at Halas Hall? figured they would move to RFID type tech for security. then its just a matter of deactivating cards.

      • Doc Hamstring

Sounds like absolute BS. You change locks on a violent spouse, you don’t change locks for a multi-billion dollar corporation where people sign contracts worth millions.

      • Doc Hamstring

Plus, Halas Hall isn’t in Chicago. Plenty of locksmiths in Lake Forest.

I doubt that story goes far beyond some reporter and his buddy who once worked as a janitor at soldier field having a couple of beers and trying to think of a name nobody else had. Or possibly from Chris Ballard’s agent (who may moonlight as a janitor at soldier field). Either way, I see nothing to give it any relevance whatsoever.

I am in if the position is open. That is a good track record of success from 11 years with the Bears. He knows Toub and that would be a great homecoming for yhe organization. Thay have ties to the days when we still had Bear attitude.

  • AlbertInTucson

Somebody’s “Bottom Line” said the Bears management will meet tomorrow to consider wheterto fire the current coaching staff.

    This requires a meeting?

Can they possibly retain Trestman and & company after placing that full page Ad?

    • NewBearInTown

Also likely not true. The decision was made probably 2-3 weeks ago. I’m sure the higher ups were interested to see if the team would rally around Trestman (look at the Jets today). Beyond that, they all know what they’re doing. If there’s a meeting tomorrow, it will be 5 minutes long confirming what they have already decided.

  • AlbertInTucson

“During an interview on the WBBM-FM (105.9) pregame show Sunday, Emery shared nothing about his status or that of coach Marc Trestman when asked whether outside discussion about his and coaches’ job security has been difficult.” – Chicago Tribune.

  • BerwynBomber

Cutler pimped Shanny in his post-Minny presser. Interesting. Question led him there but he certainly didn’t hold back.

    • John Doe

Hiring Shanahan would be the worst move Bears could make.

Remember, Mike Shanahan completely lost Washington locker room last year much like Trestman did.

Shanahan will be nothing more than Cutler’s personal coach. Cutler will be further emboldened and even less accountable.

      • Big Mike

That only didn’t work out because he had a QB forced on him by ownership. Oh wait…

IMO SF, ATL, and NY Jets are better opportunities than Bears.

        • BerwynBomber

Bears, SF and ATL are all “win-now” jobs. OAK and Jets will provide a longer leash and potentially more input in personnel decisions.
