• Big Mike

Hey Jeff. Enjoy the tailgate. Would really like to have a look inside the stadium, to see how full it really is and Bears/Lions fans ratio. Hope you have a good day. Myself, I’m going to be watching out of curiosity, hoping nobody gets injured. If it’s close I don’t know how I’ll pull against the Bears. Very mixed feelings.

  • Trac

I welcome the controversy that would come with a win. Go Bears.

    • Big Mike

A win raises so many more questions, that getting waxed.

      • huntinbare

We lead tye league in raising unanswered questions…I am sure that today’s game won’t disappoint.

    • It would be fool’s gold.
It would only prove how much donkey balls Cutler sucks, not hoe great Clausen is

      • johnnywad

You just used “Clausen” and “great” in a sentence. Dan, give Butch some blog points.

  • johnnywad

    http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24906647/jay-cutler-expected-back-with-bears-in-2015-with-new-coaching-staff

Maybe Shanahan is a better choice than Harbaugh if Cutty stays. That’d be some serious oil and water not mixing. I’d love to see Forte run the ball in Shanahan’s scheme before the wheels fall off, and there seems to be a mutual respect there that wouldn’t hurt between Cutler and Shanahan, not to mention Marshall.

    • Lol I’d rather have nuts shaved than give Jay yet another oc
      #Timetomoveon

      • johnnywad

I get it. But I really would be surprised if he’s gone next year. You may just have to shave your nuts in protest if he’s still here after the deadline. Put it on YouTube and share it with Phil.

        • Someone at halas has finally seen the light. Not sure who, but Cutlers gone. I’d give it 90% chance.

  • CanadaBear

No mixed feelings for me. Go Bears! However, if we win my Beloved Bride might have to take me to the hospital due to shock.

    • Big Mike

I just don’t know how to root against them. I don’t realistically expect there is any way for them to beat Detroit. But all logic dictates a loss is good and an ass whooping is even better for the health of the franchise.

    • huntinbare

If she rents some paddles before gametime it will be significantly less expensive…and she might enjoy giving you a jolt…sorry i had to go there…

      • CanadaBear

We had a defibrilator in the Control Room at work. I used to tell people I would jolt myself on night shift just for the buzz. Told people it was awesome but it made me pee a little. People would actually believe me. Not sure what that says about me!!??!!

        • huntinbare

If I worked there I would have been listening with intent and then said …Really? I am very gullible; when I first walked into the post office I was like a new toy in the hands of the veterans…they had their way with me and I provided a lot of laughter for them.
After you played the joke on me though I would gravitate towards you knowing that the workday would be fun.
I thought of you yesterday, as I often do when I hear music, I heard a song on Deep Tracks that I had not heard on air in a long time…it described how this season makes me feel…Melancholy Man …by the Moody Blues

          • CanadaBear

That was the reaction. Really? Of course not! I’m not insane. Always good for some laughs!

  • Big Mike

Bears losing also hurts the Packers, so there is that.

    • willbest

Only if TB beats or ties the Packers. Otherwise the outcome is irrelevant.

  • Lions havr already clinched. Prediction. No noticeable difference between a bum and Cutler.
Maybe Cutler no longer leads the league in TOs after being benched. Maybe.

    • Big Mike

They have clinched a playoff spot, not the division. They can also get a bye and/or the #1 seed. Still a lot to play for.

      • johnnywad

Man it hurts to read that. I miss Jim Schwartz.

        • Big Mike

what hurts is that we could finish 3 games behind MN

          • Lol remind Me not to tail gate w u, Mike!

          • Big Mike

Man, I am the eternal optimist of a Bears’ fan. I’m also one of the best tailgaters you’ll ever meet. This season has broken my spirit. My brother and I live out in Virginia, near Dulles airport. We’ve not missed a snap in 15 years. (we’ve had to go on radio silence and DVR games a couple times, due to Coaching teams, a child being born, and some idiot friend scheduled a Sunday wedding during the season). Prior to that I went to a bar in DC that pulled in the Bears signal. I’ve probably missed fewer than 10 games since the early 70s. We get to at least 1 and usually two games (home and away) every year.

We will be in position, today. Captain Morgan at the ready. But this season has not been fun.

          • I hear u, Mike. And others much older like Albert and Canada have also testified this is the worst team since the 50s

          • CanadaBear

Surely the most disappointing. It’s pretty obvious the team has already checked out on Nessman. I don’t remember teams in the distant past quitting. Right now I don’t think we could beat anyone in the league.

  • Shady

“Why do I like the Chicago Bears this week? I always like the… ah fuck it.”

    • Yet we’re still gonna watch. We’re worse than Ray rice’s chick. Stand by ur maaaaan

      • Shady

Days like today were made for the Red Zone Channel.

        • Word.

        • Big Mike

I record the red zone channel when the Bears are on. It is the absolute best way to catch up on a day of football.

      • SC Dave

I’m off to the Alehouse soon. My fandom is cannot be differentiated from a compulsive disorder it would seem.

        • huntinbare

I like this….Compulsive disorder is a great description of our season …

  • huntinbare

Has anybody heard how practice went this week …I am trying to get a read on today’s outcome…
I hope it went badly so we can have some positive results on the field…

    • CanadaBear

I’m pretty sure they had a great week of practice. Also, sure it won’t translate onto the field today.

      • huntinbare

        I am grasping for straws…
Bad at practice= good in the game
I know good at practice = bad in game

  • BearDown100393

Something is going to happen on the Bears sideline today.

    • Jay will light it up. And by it, I mean a cig

    • Big Mike

I hope so. Maybe Cutler gets caught mouthing off, something like (see jimmy, these guys are ass hats)

  • huntinbare

Will we be more committed to the run today because of Pickles… I would like to see more of
KaDeem Carey the next two games…

    • I doubt that. I think tresty unleashes his new toy, and I think it’ll work. The team will be invigorated by a new qb. If not, we’ll know the call came from the top, not the bottom

      • BerwynBomber

I’m not a Jay fan either but I don’t see Clausen working. McCown 2.0 would be too surreal to countenance.

        • Lions shut down Vadgers. So, Clausen won’t light it up. But I think he will move the ball behind a more inspired effort.
Anyone who has played the sport knows how important sitting a qb who needs it is

          • BerwynBomber

I get the importance of the intangible (and am not discounting it), but I had a little belief in McCown (before he started last year) where I don’t in Clausen if only because of that one Minny game (a year or two previous) when McCown replaced Hanie and immediately resembled a professional QB by comparison.

Anyway, I hope you’re right. It would be extremely amusing and make for a very interesting Monday.

          • willbest

Bears commit 3 false starts, and 2 unnecessary holding pentalies to kill half their possessions. They sit on the ball at the half to kill another.

          • Big Mike

The false starts and holdings aren’t only terrible because they have to run another play.

        • Big Mike

McCown played a bunch of teams that weren’t very good on defense. (look it up). Clausen is facing the best defense in the entire league. I’d say odds are 50/50 Cutler has to go in.

          • BerwynBomber

The 2014 Saints are atrocious on defense too and our $126M QB made them look like Seattle’s Legion of Boom. Anyway, I agree with you about Clausen’s chances today. Who knows, maybe our D gives an inspired effort and keeps it close for awhile.

          • Big Mike

Saints reference not relevant to the topic. But yeah, everything we’ve done this year is crap. D has played inspired in the first quarter of the last several games, particularly vs the run. The d-line has been one positive in this nightmare season.

          • BearDown100393

One of those teams was Green Bay. Felt good.

    • Shady

Big yes on the backup RB plan, no reason to add milage to Forte’s odometer at this point.

  • Ola rg, Groy rt. There u go Clausen. I may make as many excuses for u as waffle for cutty.
And oh yeah, no Marshall. A nd a fired hc and crybaby oc!
And yet….bears o will still look better

    • Big Mike

Long and Mills are out? holy shit. against the number 1 defense in the league. SMH. It’s going to be a blood bath

    • BerwynBomber

Nice try but you only touched the tip of iceberg of Waffle excuses.

      • huntinbare

One of my favorite plays this year was the kick Long dished out after the JC int.

    • Big Mike

What is the sack record for one game? This could be a ten pack. Get Forte out of there.

  • Big Mike

What the hell happened to Kyle Long? he’s not being a head case about Cutler being benched or anything? Has he been playing injured? What’s up with Mills? He’s been out a lot.

    • Long is a baller. He’s just inj. Mills has been hurt all year, as many of us have suspected. But I still think da bears will provide an inspired effort. I know, I’m a homer

      • BearDown100393

According to the Trib, he has a “sore” hip.

        • Big Mike

Guys play through worse if it’s just sore. Long has never given any indication of being anything less than a 100% bad ass. Makes you wonder what the real deal is?

          • BearDown100393

Long started in 30 straight games until today.

          • Big Mike

Makes it even more curious that he hip “soreness” is why he’s out. BTW, big Kyle Long fan. Bought his Jersey last year, sported it when I was at the TB game.

          • BearDown100393

Not sold it was his decision.

          • BillW

Biggsy tweeted trainers watched him carefully during warmups

          • Big Mike

            Ughh McCaskey spies πŸ™‚

          • willbest

Who cares, why should he risk significant injury in a worthless game. I would rather he spend his off-season building more muscle than rehabing.

          • Big Mike

You’re not curious as to whether its a bigger injury? If he’s “resting” it, its out of character. The long term impact on the team wasn’t point. Character does matter.

          • willbest

Okay, I suppose if its a fake injury, and he is using it as an excuse not to play, I would have an issue with it. But if its something he would play through if the playoffs were on the line, but not now, I don’t care.

According to reports he was out on the field with the trainers through warmups before being ruled out, which is a pretty big dog and pony show if it was either super serious or nonexistent.

          • Big Mike

Yeah, I just don’t know. It strikes me as odd. But this whole season has been this way. I guess Forte shouldn’t be sent out there either if we are in full protect all the assets mode. It’s starting to feel like a preseason game, exept nobody told the other team.

          • willbest

That assumes Forte is even on the team next year. He might not be. 29 year old RB w/ 8 mil in cap savings if cut. He can’t be in the Bears long term plans, so there is no point investing in him now if you can’t win.

  • BillW

I expect low number of no shows with large contingent of lions fans

Hope George has no seat trouble today

And did it strike anyone, like it did me, that he sits in seats with fans and not in a box? . A real good sign in my opinion. Gets to hear fan reaction

    • BearDown100393

LOL, McCaskey actually has to sit with Bears fans in order to get what people think about this team?

      • CanadaBear

I think it’s more symbolic than anything. Give George credit, I doubt Mikey ever sat in those seats.

        • GPLDAN

Mikey would not want to dirty his cardigan sweaters by fouling them with fan grime.

          • CanadaBear

            Exactly!

        • BearDown100393

I suppose that is possible. It is also possible that George gets lost when trying to find the owner’s box.

    • Big Mike

I do like that he sits with fans.

    • willbest

I don’t know where his seats are, but I would rather be mid 100 level between the 40s than up in a box.

      • Big Mike

Mid field media deck in rows a-d are the best seats in the house.

    • BerwynBomber

You never know, McCaskey might have his finger on the faint pulse of this team and its fan base more than PE or Trestman do.

      • BillW

I have hope that a week from tomorrow starts a significant new chapter in the Bears storied history. Super Bowl in the centennial year!

    • CanadaBear

I’m guessing they have a block of primo seats along with the box. I was surprised he didn’t have some type of muscle with him. Ricketts’ walks around Wrigley but I don’t think Cubs fans are as volatile as Bears fans. Glad that fan tackled that fucking loser lawyer from NOLA. People may hate the McCaskey’s but knocking George down is unacceptable.

      • BearDown100393

Ricketts has the unofficial mascot to beat up fans.

        • CanadaBear

Clark just wasn’t getting it done.

          • BearDown100393

Billy Cub should’ve been signed by the Bears for Clausen’s O-line.

          • huntinbare

There is only one mascot that will save us…THE ALBINO GOAT

      • huntinbare

We have been neutered after 100+ yrs. of futility…. Think McMurphy at the cuckoo’s nest

      • huntinbare

I still hope they have “push me… no push me signs” for him…or maybe a jolt from the paddles will wake him into action.

  • GPLDAN

Is this how the Christians felt when the Romans lined them up in the Coliseum?

    • BillW

      Lions! . I get jokes!

    • huntinbare

Yes ; but we will pay a dearer price…
The Christians were consumed and the pain passed…
We will have to live with this pain until next season…or the next season…or the nex…..

    • I envision u more as a Caligula

    • BearDown100393

More like the Battle of Jericho.

  • Big Mike

Here’s what I’m watching for today
-Does Clausen get a pass from the booing?
    – how loud does the booing get?
    – Does the network show empty /lion filled seats
    – Does Cutler have to come in for an injured Clausen
    – How bad will Trestman’s game plan be?
    – How many special team penalties
    – will the Bears get a first down in the first quarter
    – will they get passed midfield?
    – when does the stadium empty out
    – will Chicken Dinner fall down?
    – Will garza tackle clausen

    I could keep going.

    • BillW

Unfortunately there are many reasons to watch as you point out

      • Big Mike

Ok, getting close to game time.

    • BearDown100393

Game plan? That is a huge stretch.

      • Big Mike

        πŸ™ I’m weeping here.

    • Shady

      -no
-the will of the fanbase has been broken, sounds like DET fans in the house, loud but not too loud.
-if they do it won’t be for long, more likely to zoom in on smaller group or individual.
-Possibly, he may even lead them back to a win just for giggles added drama to the season.
-curious to see what trestman pulls out of his ass
      -ton as usual
      -yes
      -yes
      -when the game is over
      -yes
      – …yes

      • Big Mike

I guess I don’t need to watch πŸ™‚ thanks for ruining it. Ok here we go…

  • GPLDAN

The last stand of Roberto Garza.

    Alamo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • BearDown100393

Ends with Garza lying on his back with his QB pinned underneath.

    • Big Mike

indeed it is. he’s been a good warrior. shameful to go out on such a sad sack team.

If #Titans trade for Jay Cutler, it will have wide-ranging ramifications, especially if they get top pick. Will alter the draft dramatically

    8:42 AM – 21 Dec 2014

    • BearDown100393

Nobody cares about NFL football in Tennessee. Would be a perfect environment for #6.

      • BerwynBomber

And he and his wife and kids and Waffle apparently live there in the off-season.

        • BearDown100393

          They share a trailer.

          • BerwynBomber

            Not with Cutty’s money.

Joshing aside, I’ve heard Nashville is nice, and if Cutty would be happy there, all the power to him. One never knows. He and the little lady might be dying to get the fuck out of Chicago. I do wonder if being benched is almost a relief to him, hence the “bigger person” press conferences of late.

          • BearDown100393

$30,000/wk remember? Still has $29,500 to spare to print up those anti vaccine brochures.

          • BerwynBomber

Yeah, that anti-vaccine stuff is crazy. Then again, the Cutlers aren’t the only nutters in that camp.

          • MikeBrownhadaPosse

            Not with Johnnys money either

    • Big Mike

Cutler for their 2nd round pick and they pick up $10m

Take it all day. Basically another first round pick.

      • If we get a higher than 3rd, it’d be a festivus miracle,

        • Big Mike

Well that’s why I said I’d take it πŸ™‚ For a 3rd, I’d be on the fence. I know, I know, I’m hanging on to my Cutler hopes and dreams…

        • BearDown100393

If we get the festivus pole it will be a miracle.

      • willbest

I would rather trade first rounders, give them cutler and draft Jameis Winston. Need the Bucs to win a game though.

        • johnnywad

You’d use a pick on Winston?

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

          Winston? The fuck?

    • The chin also remarked how Cutler inspires about as much as cspan, but that kromer would have been on the street on his watch regardless

      • SC Dave

        An apt comparison.

    • BerwynBomber

So I wonder if they would be interested in parting with Mettenberger?

  • Big Mike

Gentleman, I can honestly say posting on this board today is probably the best I’ll feel about the Bears all day. Thanks for the therapy. I am going to try not to drunk post.. but any posts from me from after the game until tomorrow morning should be taken in context.

    • huntinbare

I never minded drunk posts as long as you don’t slur your pronunciation… and don’t spill your drinks on our brand new Bears jerseys….you know the one’s we ordered that have …2014 NEVER FORGET on the back

I have succumbed to my worst fears for the following reason’s…
The “old”Lions could screw this game up; but having to build momentum going into this years playoff season I have a sense they will not take their foot off the gas and am expecting a terrible outcome….

Coaching matters. Schwartz out. New guy in. Looking for the # 2 seed. Same players

    • BearDown100393

      Just like Thanksgiving.

    • willbest

He will learn and get better. I like putting on an island like this

      • SC Dave

This. Calvin Johnson has schooled every DB he has ever played against in the NFL.

  • GPLDAN

Stafford gets it in the Bass.

  • BerwynBomber

We look like the Shorts-led Lions now. Lots of stupid penalties.

    • GPLDAN

undisciplined play from a team in total disarray

  • underway

there is the Stafford we know…

  • Shady

    Brock! The rook!

    • willbest

It didn’t involve him making a tackle

  • BerwynBomber

    Nice.

  • BerwynBomber

    Jeffrey heard footsteps there.

  • BearDown100393

Apparently Mel Tucker has yet to figure out that Fuller on Megatron = Touchdown

  • Clausen looks much better than Cutler. Better pocket presence and accuracy. 3 drops ain’t helping though, and some questionable screens, like always

    • underway

his pre snap communication has been excellent.

    • BearDown100393

      Well so did McCown….

  • Shady

    D showing some fight.

  • underway

Is Alshon protesting? WTF. or he heard footsteps.

    • BerwynBomber

His first drop was horrible. Total short-armed footsteps type.

  • BerwynBomber

Four drops in the first half. Our backup QB not being helped here.

    • I’m not usually one for making excuses for qbs, but Christ, 4 drops in 1 half!

  • That would have been a strip sack td if Jay was in

    • BearDown100393

      Or a Pic 6

  • willbest

Can’t imagine this helps Cutler’s trade value if Clausen can look competent against one of the best Defenses in the league.

  • No reps, no practice, 4 drops vs best d, still looks better than Cutler

  • BearDown100393

    Pass interference.

  • RenoBear

Jimmy is pretty damn accurate! Our receivers gotta help him out though. That was a BS non PI call though

    • BearDown100393

Should be able to challenge PI and parameters for the penalty need more clarification. Change it to 15 yard penalty instead of site of the foul. Rule needs to be reformed.

  • BearDown100393

There’s those dumb Lions of old!

  • underway

Old Lions showing up? Spirit of Gymshorts?

  • Shady

    Santa Clausen.

  • BerwynBomber

    Little Jimmy Clausen.

  • This is the universe telling us something

    • BearDown100393

Give Jay a raise and extend Trestman?

      • SC Dave

        Umm….

        • BearDown100393

          LOL

  • willbest

Keep Jimmy & Trestman. Trade Culter and Marshall, Fire mel Tucker. Spend money on D.

    • underway

dont be fooled….. its the Matrix…..

      • willbest

I don’t know… McCown and now Pickles. Its awfully convincing.

  • BearDown100393

Good for Clausen. Love the camera cut to an exuberant Jay Cutler on the sideline.

  • wreckinball

    WTF

  • underway

a First half TD…. wait what?

  • Told u guys we’ll play inspired. This tells me more than anything that the O guys were tired if Cutler

    • willbest

Well the drops aren’t really inspired. But it is functional.

      • Just look at the energy level in all phases. They’re playing. More than we can say about them w jay

    • BearDown100393

Odd how Clausen can play behind an even more depleted offensive line and not cough up the football.

      • willbest

Perhaps they caught Detroit looking forward to next week as the game that actually matters.

        • Nope

          • willbest

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Detroit D’s MO this year has been to give up big first halves and then not letting you do a damn thing after half time.

          • Is that what they did vs Cutler the last few times?

          • willbest

No its what they did against the Saints, Atlanta, and few other teams

          • So u want Cutler in?

          • willbest

Huh? How did you get that? I am just saying that the Detroit’s Defense this year plays a better second half than first half.

      • BerwynBomber

I’ve always maintained Cutler makes an O-line look bad. In fairness to Jay, he played behind some shitty O-lines. But he is turtle slow on working through his progressions and his pocket awareness can be shaky.

  • wreckinball

    Nice pass by Jimmy

  • BerwynBomber

Thus far I will say this: Clausen gets through his progressions quicker than Cutty. Still not completely sold but he has played reasonably well against one of the best Ds in the league. If not for the drops, his QR would be north of 100.

    • Old broken romanian Jericho

nice, we’re all playing the what if game now? So WR’s and TE’s killing drives with drops really does matter? The opposition throwing 2 red zone picks and muffing a punt does result in less points being scored? The coach calling bullshit playcalls to the fucking blocking TE is not wise?

Give me a fucking break. You guys are insane. I had to log in because i predicted that a blowjob fest would be in process with 0 pts in the half except for a muffed punt and i was fucking spot on. Holy fuck you guys.

      • BerwynBomber

There you are. Glad you could join us. You must have missed the part where I said, “I’m not completely sold.”

        Chill.

        • Old broken romanian Jericho

i had to log in. Look at the lunacy below in the comments.

      • BearDown100393

And now you can log out.

        • Old broken romanian Jericho

i will don’t worry. i’ll leave you to your delusions that 7 pts is acceptable (because of a dropped punt) as long as it’s not cutler that led us to the 7….because then it would be unacceptable of course.

          • BearDown100393

Then do what you claim and leave. Everyone here already knows you won’t because you simply cannot help yourself.

          • SC Dave

Except Cutler would have led us to zero. Again.

    • He looks waaaay better. No argument. No Vadgers. But he’s inspiring confidence.
Jay simply lacks the cerebral. Instinctual part of a qb. It’s painfully obvious when mcown clausen types step in
Maybe Irish wasn’t bat shit crazy after all.
      Beam be up, Scotty!

      • Old broken romanian Jericho

i logged in to witness the lunacy and you’ve met my quota. Now i can log off in peace. It’s nice to know that as long as it’s someone else leading one scoring drive despite 3 opposition turnovers that you’ll be satisfied.

        • BerwynBomber

C’mon Waffle. At least Clausen a little bone. He has not put one pass, thus far, in harm’s way.

          • BearDown100393

Who really cares what he thinks? He isn’t a Bears fan. He is Jay’s lover.

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

you’re a fucking troll. i’m just not willing to crucify ONE guy in a team game.

          • BearDown100393

No you just crucify Bears fans here for the sake of your lover.

        • No turnovers

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

3 and outs because of bad playcalling, bad execution, drops and a few bad decisions. Sounds like the norm but we’re acting like we scored 21

          • U think Cutler would have done better? I’ll take clausen for a few pesos

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

Dude, the offense has had good games, average ones and bad ones. Why is it ok for the same O killing mistakes just because it isn’t cutler?

          • What happens if we win this game? Coincendece again?

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

right now if we win its because of the D(cant believe i just typed that). The O has not done anything impressive

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

it’s because of Stafford turnovers in the redzone and the muffed punt after long sustained drives. with that being said, whatever keeps the lions out of the playoffs.

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

lions already clinched a playoff spot

          • Maybe the d is inspired cuz they believe they can win without Cutler. U seriously don’t see some correlation? Lol

          • Huge Bear’s Penis

not really the Lions had 200+ yards of Offense in the first half. 2 redzone turnovers. more luck than inspired play

          • Coincedence, I’m. Sure

          • BearDown100393

He will never admit it. Part of his job being Jay’s punk ass bitch.

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

3 lions turnover is awesome for us. last time we played them we had NONE. let’s fucking win it and fuck these guys. Just don’t be delusional about the offense.

          • SC Dave

We scored seven more than Cutler would have managed.

          • Old broken romanian Jericho

the bomb to Alshon was interference but was also a yard too long just like Jay’s. At least Alshon fucking dove for this one. No fucking peep from anyone. Nice.
At this point get rid of Cutler and rebuild, he’ll never get a fair shake.

          • He will. In Nashville

        • SC Dave

The true lunacy is your posts. For the first time in eight weeks or so, Cutler does not play. For the first time in eight weeks or so, we’re not humiliated, despite the fact that two more starters (other than the benchee, or course) are not playing on offense.

      • BerwynBomber

        What was Irish’s take?

  • wreckinball

Bears actually reversed their normal end of half They scored!

    • SC Dave

      Different QB. Just sayin’

  • BerwynBomber

    Btw, Cheese are struggling.

  • BerwynBomber

Hate to say it, but nice play by Stafford there.

  • BerwynBomber

Sucks about W. Young. Had a good year.

  • BerwynBomber

South out to Hub: he called Raiola one of the biggest PoS in the league.

  • RenoBear

Raiola is a piece if dogshit

  • BearDown100393

Aikman is “crucifying” Jay Cutler. I guess a Super Bowl winning HOF QB knows what he is actually talking about.

  • A hard count, qb sneak and 2 min td. First for everything, and purely coincidental

    • BearDown100393

Only a complete idiot would refuse to see the difference.

  • Christ. Another drop

  • BerwynBomber

    Little Jimmy Clausen deserves better.

GB, I believe, had the most drops in one game in the NFL this season with 8 or 9 against BUF last week. We have 5 already.

  • underway

Garza… Hang it up old fella…

  • willbest

Well Jimmy is looking to get a couple extra million or two on his next contract. I guess part of Cutler’s magic isn’t just getting himself big money, but he does well for his #2s as well.

  • underway

the Clausen Love affair has started(LMAO)… Fuck You Jay Cutler, you hologram of a starting QB. Sorry guys I had too…

    • BearDown100393

It isn’t that Jimmy Clausen is anything great. It is just that Jay Cutler is indeed a hologram. This is obvious to ALMOST everyone.

  • Cutler dump off oh wait. Ttttdddd! Go bears!

    • BearDown100393

Yup, the gun slinging dump off QB.

      • Old broken romanian Jericho

when did Jay ever dump off in the red zone you fucking idiot?

        • Old broken romanian Jericho

          don’t be dumb

        • BearDown100393

          Back again huh?

  • BerwynBomber

    Well, well, well …

  • wreckinball

    Jimmy!

  • RenoBear

It’s almost comical to see Cutler’s face , he should at least make an attempt to show excitement or happiness for his team, even if it’s fake

    • BearDown100393

He doesn’t care. He never did.

      • Bender McLugh

        Wrong

    • madscout12

Yeah, cause he hasn’t been over there looking at pictures of coverages all day.

      But yeah, he doesn’t care…

      • RenoBear

Get over yourself dude. I know I know that’s just Cutler’s ‘demeanor’ … Blah blah blah never too high never too low… Just making an observation

      • SC Dave

You *were* being facetious about looking at pictures, right?

  • Jack Lacan

    Mingus Ah Hum!!!

  • I would gladly take a dive at Raoilas knee. There must be repercussion

  • BerwynBomber

Fuck! Helluva play by Tate there.

    • SC Dave

      I hated that play.

  • Jack Lacan

    Gambler’s Remorse…

  • BerwynBomber

Little Jimmy Clausen has played a very smart game. Let’s see if he can continue one more quarter and we can somehow pull this off.

  • Jack Lacan

I cannot believe I saw a “stunt” by the defensive line…

  • Jack Lacan

I missed the first half due to wife’s holiday chores and other torture…

  • Jack Lacan

Forced Lions into a time out — that makes my last half hour a reasonable pleasure…now if I could just find the beer among all these goddam boxes…

  • BerwynBomber

C’mon D. Get us the fucking ball back.

  • BerwynBomber

    Shit.

    • Jack Lacan

      My sentiment exactly…

  • Bender McLugh

I don’t see Clausen going anywhere now, good for Bears.

    • BearDown100393

Bears vs Titans next season would be a good one.

    • willbest

I could see some team giving him some serious coin next year. St. Louis or Buffalo.

      • Jack Lacan

        Sure – for this performance…

      • Bender McLugh

Be better if Bears kept him

  • BerwynBomber

    Nice play by Tiny Tim.

  • BearDown100393

“Well played by Mel Tucker’s defense” – When has that been said this season until now?

  • Jack Lacan

    Eat some grass Calvin….

  • Bender McLugh

    Awe yeah

  • Jack Lacan

    “Nothing is over” —- Rambo

  • Bender McLugh

Mundy should be back next season too

  • BearDown100393

Jimmy Clausen has “sparked” the Bears.

  • BerwynBomber

This inspiring. Ok, Little Jimmy. Just give us what you have the first 3Qs.

  • Yeah. Suddenly our d and specials show up. Coincidental

    • willbest

Well it helps that they are playing for one of their own in addition to a functional offense.

      • SC Dave

Yeah, those last two words particularly..

  • Jack Lacan

The Bears are playing like — if we lose we have to go to a monestary and no sex….

  • underway

Life is ultimately better when I get to watch competitive Bears football on Sunday. I DONT GIVE A DAMN WHO THE QB IS!!!

    • BearDown100393

It is for Bears fans. It isn’t a great day for Jay lovers though.

  • Jack Lacan

Detroit kicker grounded his seven iron…

  • A roll out. Another 1st!

  • BerwynBomber

    Horrible punt.

    • Tresway is the best punter in the nfl right now, if that makes u feel better

      • Bender McLugh

        lol

  • Jack Lacan

It seems like a long time since I’ve seen a Bears open field tackle..

  • underway

Jennings has went to shit… He’s gotta go…

    Two horrendous D plays back-to-back.

    • EnderWiggin

      What’s new?

      • BerwynBomber

The QB hasn’t turned it over and we are still in the game?

  • willbest

Tim Jennings needs to be thankful to Jay Cutler, because otherwise everybody would be talking about how horrible that contract was instead.

  • 3Rd and 10 . Jesus Jennings

  • underway

The Clausen moment has come… Get ready to buy your JC jerseys… or just turn the 6 to an 8 and rip the UTLER off the back. Game winning drive coming up…..

      What a drive…

      • underway

that post had Jay Cutler enthusiasm! Is he using his sideline surface to post here? lol

        • BerwynBomber

The Cutty lovers ain’t hard to spot. Player before team.

          • BearDown100393

A lot of anger with those types. Pent up frustration. Seemingly hiding in a closet.

  • BerwynBomber

Ah well. Competitive game. Nothing to be embarrassed about.

  • wreckinball

    So much for that

  • BerwynBomber

Bell’s tearing us up. Have to say, I’m impressed by him the few times I’ve seen the Kittens this year.

  • BearDown100393

Need the Lions to do something dumb again.

  • wreckinball

Game over but a better effort

    • BerwynBomber

Clausen played well. D played pretty well for 3Qs. Sorta ran out of gas here at the end.

  • underway

Well, the D(open)fence ha showed up. While I want to win. I am not embarrassed by this teams play today. I am embarrassed that CD gets to wear #50…. travesty.

  • BerwynBomber

C’mon, D. Hold them to an FG. Give Little Jimmy one more shot.

  • Merica

At least the game was engaging! Il take that over what we’ve seen all season.

  • wreckinball

    One more shot

  • Anyone who denies that the Bears came out more energized w out Cutler is not a Bears fan, regardless of outcome.

    • madscout12

The bears came out more energized. Cutler didn’t play.

But I don’t think you can put those two together.

      • SC Dave

Why not? Are you that much a fanboi of Jay?

        • Cormonster

Correlation and causation are two different things. Did Clausen starting force Stafford to throw two stupid picks in the red zone, cause the Lions punt returner to muff it, or cause Lions special teams to rough the kicker.

    • BearDown100393

Agreed. Cutler trolls are indeed an endangered species but still exist.

    • Trac

Suggest you insert the word ” sane” before “Bears fan”

  • Trac

Wow! Where has this fight been all season?

  • underway

FUCKIN JIMMY BABY!!!!! GET SOME…. I like it!

    Alshon.

Jeffrey has been horrible. 7 drops today by Bears receivers.

    • underway

I feel like you didnt want Little Jimmy to succeed… I’m not saying this is a Bledsoe/Brady, Farve/Rodgers situation but he gave us a chance to win… thats all that matters.

      • madscout12

You’re right…I didn’t want Jimmy to succeed, because if he did, its a mirage. If Jimmy lit it up, then Trestman can say he’s a good coach hampered by a bad QB, when we all know he’s a bad coach who lost the locker room, who hasn’t held anyone but the QB accountable. Trestman could claim that, in fact, his offense works with Jimmy, and that we can win with him next year.

Then we have this thing for one more year, and we can’t afford that.

        Trestman needs to go.
        Tucker needs to go.
        Kromer needs to go.
and if Cutler goes, we better get stuff back for him, because we’ll be looking for a QB for a long, long time. And we’ll suck, real bad next year, and the year after that, unless God himself comes along in the draft.

        • underway

TouchΓ©, but I just want to win. everygame is a chance to win. Its been a while.

          • underway

            Oh and Cutler SHOULD go.

          • madscout12

I’m fine with Cutler going. I’ll trade Cutler + our 1st for TN’s 1st. Deal.

But none of this shit of Cutler + picks for nothing.

          • BerwynBomber

We should NOT have to give up anything to unload Cutty. But I doubt we will get a a first for first swap. More likely a 3rd rounder. A second at the absolute most. Either one, I would take. In a heartbeat.

          • madscout12

            Why?

You take the picks only if it gets you our next guy. Only if there is a guy out there that you think is the next guy. Their first gives us that chance.

Other than that, no…I don’t give up a starting caliber QB, who I’ve made a down payment on in year one…by design…away for fucking nothing. He’s paid what…22 mil this year? He’s paid an average of 16 mil the next two years. 16 mil puts him 12th of all QBs next year. Right about where he should be. And I roll with that, because in 2 years, Forte, BM, Unicorn, and a shit ton of other players are gone anyway.

          • johnnywad

            I agree

          • BerwynBomber

Why? Because the sooner the JC era ends the sooner the team gets on with its future, regardless if a starting QB is in place or not.

Plus, are you sure about your math? I think it is 19M per the next two seasons.

          • madscout12

            http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/jay-cutler/

Little off…16.5 cap hit next year, and 17 the following. But I was on about base salary.

BTW, did you know Romo makes 27 some next year?

Who do you trust in the front office to get a guy better than Jay? Who do you think is coming out of college that is better than Jay/can be better?

Again, see this list and shudder…

            http://www.spotrac.com/free-agents/nfl/quarterback/

          • BerwynBomber

Why would I shudder? Sanchize is arguably as good as Cutler. And he is TEN TIMES less the salary. Do you realize how many D starters 18M would buy?

          • madscout12

            64.1% 2,126 12 10 87.3
            66.1% 3,640 28 18 89.5

            seems legit…

          • BerwynBomber

Yep. I could live with Sanchize as a bridge if the money is right. We won’t get him for the $2M he made this year but if we could swing him for under $10 I do it without second thought. Again, he is no long-terms answer but with some decent parts around him he will give you basically what Cutty does for significantly less cash.

        • SC Dave

CUTLER needs to go, more than anyone else. Even DeCamel-ass

          • Cormonster

Is the debate over, Al Gore?

          • madscout12

            Horseshit.

I root for Cutler because if he does well, the bears do well.

But Pickles doing well today helps not the bears…but Trestman. And Trestman needs to go.

Also, horseshit he played better than Cutler has all season. And if you refuse to see the drops Cutler has dealt with all season, then you’re fucking blind.

Cutler to Pickles vindicates this team…a team that doesn’t deserve to be vindicated.
The defense has sucked all year. Shit calling/design by the coordinator and shit execution by the players
ST has sucked all year…shit execution by the players, and bad coordination in spots from the coordinator.

And the Offense, the vaunted offense with its weapons has sucked all year. Our RB has been good, but can’t break a tackle for his life. Our WRs haven’t gotten open, dropped ball, false starts, and general shit play. Our TE has done worse than our WR along with missing his blocking assignments. Our O-Line has not executed at all…including our expensive LT…and has had tons of presnap penalties.

And our QB…our expensive QB…has played like crap at times, but is still better than our backup. But you know what? When everything above is going wrong, elite QBs can’t turn it around. Look at Drew Brees this year.

I will not settle for “oh, its all Jay’s fault” when it fucking isn’t. I won’t settle for a misdiagnosis of this team’s problems, because I fucking hate sucking like this. And make no mistake about it, if we just decide that we need to ship out the QB and that all our fucking problems will be solved, we will suck like this for a very, very long time.

    • More competitive than any Cutler led game, and for one tenth of the price

      • willbest

Hey now… Don’t take the Falcons game away from Cutler.

        • They had more drops than us that game, but at least they were getting crushed. Alshon was just flat dropping them. Unreal

        • madscout12

          or the Jets
          or 9ers
          or Vikings
          or Tampa Bay
          or Carolina

the recent past is not the whole year. The lions are not the Patriots and Packers.

          • RenoBear

Carolina? We lost dude. Cutler was nothing special that game.

          • madscout12

We didn’t beat the lions today either.

            He said competitive…not a win.

          • RenoBear

            Ok

          • We would have won all those games w clausen. And that’s not saying much

          • johnnywad

            Bullshit

          • underway

That says it all… 9ers is the only win that means anything on that list…

    • Trac

It was a winnable game my man. How many times have we been able to say that this year while playing a team with a winning record? Personally, Jay Cutler, Mark Trestman and Phil Emery are standing in the way of me being able to enjoy the Bears. I don’t know if it’s because we got square pegs for round holes when it comes to coaching and QB play and we may never really know.

    • willbest

And if the Defense could get off the field on 4th down, the Bears would have won.

      • Big Mike

Are you blind or stupid? Defense played lights out

        • willbest

You cannot play lights out and surrender that many 20+ yard plays nor if you can’t get off the field on 4th & 5, or 3rd & long.

    • Big Mike

And they still we’re in the gane longer than Cutker was

      • madscout12

Let me make this clearer for you, cause I know you’re drunk.

Without the Lions giving up two bad ST teams plays, we are SHUTOUT. Not anything we did…but one of their players dropping the ball and one of their players running into our kicker.

0 points on our drives. 0. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

        • Big Mike

Drunk not blind. I don’t know. Just love my Bears. Cutler seems to be the problem. But Captain Morgan seems to help me deal with this team. Oh and we had 7 drops.

Detroit did help Us stay in the game. But what’s your point ?

  • wreckinball

    Jeffery all thumbs

  • Maddbearfan

Nice going Jennings and Jeffery’s. Lost that game for the Bears!!

  • Wow. So the receivers finally get a qb who isn’t constipated with dump offs and they decide not to catch? Smfh

    • RenoBear

It’s a shame man. All I’m gonna say about Clausen is he’s pretty damn accurate. Receivers did not help him at all. Clausen is no savior, but I’ll agree that he never really got a shot after his rookie season on a terrible Panthers team. Good to see him fight. He’s a good Irish catholic kid who finally got a shot. I like him

      • willbest

Maybe that is the problem receivers weren’t used to getting the ball where it is supposed to be

      • SC Dave

Well, if “he never really got a shot after his rookie season”, perhaps he *could* be the “savior”? Granted, not likely, but why not? After all, Kurt Warner was stocking groceries…

  • DaMurph

What was up with Jeffrey? Cutty promise him a new car or something? His drops are unbelievable, right in his Fucking hands!

    • BerwynBomber

Well, he and BM are tight and BM is Cutty’s besty.

      Kidding … mostly …

    • SC Dave

I’m thinking just a bad day. Hoping, anyway.

  • Big Mike

2 thoughts. Alshon sucked a cock today and I an now convinced that Cutler is the problem

    • BearDown100393

I guess that explains why he logged off.

      • Big Mike

Drunk post ignore it. I will render my opinion tomorroe. Fuck cutler. Keep Trestman

        • BerwynBomber

Drunk or not, your perspective seems pretty solid. Not sure about Tresty though. He might be okay as an OC. But still not sure about him as an HC.

    • SC Dave

Finally came around on Cutler? Good.

      • Big Mike

7 captain Morgan’s and my brother convinced me. Plus..my eyes

        • SC Dave

lol… Captain can lead to certain forms of … um… clarity?

          • Big Mike

The 7 captains (14 shots) and 2 miller lites say Cutler needs to go. Trestman can stay, but it’s ok if he leaves as well. Most happy with dline specifically and defense in general. Looks like something to build around

          • iowabearsfan

totally agree with this. I know clausen’s stats weren’t amazing, but his footwork and poise and everything just looked a lot more efficient. Getting the ball ou t on time and running the offense, and no stupid throws, this all without much practice. Even on Cutty’s good dayat least a couple stupid throws that put the team at risk.

          • Big Mike

Wasn’t about Clausen. Looks like Trestman can take any QB good or bad and get about the same results.

  • Maddbearfan

Well we tried to help the Packers..just didn’t work.

  • BerwynBomber

Good job, Little Jimmy. Nothing to be ashamed of. D didn’t play horribly either until the end.

Kittens are still a dirty team.

    • SC Dave

If they don’t shell out at least 30K between the stomp on Ego and shot on Clausen, something is amiss.

      • willbest

Nah they are too worried about what goes on in players private lives to have time to deal with what happens on the field.

        • SC Dave

          Sadly, you’re probably right.

  • BearDown100393

In 2 seasons with the Bears, Marc Trestman has proved to develop backup quarterbacks. Maybe his next gig is freelancing amongst teams needing to prepare a QB after the starter gets knocked out or benched.

    • BerwynBomber

Or maybe he just needs a decent starter who stays with the system.

    • willbest

If Clausen does as well next week, I expect Trestmen to be an OC somewhere next year.

  • willbest

And with that performance Alshon looks to play out the last year of his rookie contract rather than get an early payday.

  • BerwynBomber

Trestman might be salvageable as an OC. You just don’t want him leading a team.

    • SC Dave

This. He just does not seem to have the will to force non-performers to be accountable.

  • BerwynBomber

Little Jimmy Clausen did not put ONE FUCKING BALL into double-coverage harm’s way today until that last pass. Liked what I saw. Also he moves better than I thought. You can live with him as a back-up, maybe even a bridge guy.

    • I would say a bridge qb, but who knows about the next hc oc? One things for sure, Cutler’s not that much better, if at all.

      • BerwynBomber

I never liked #6. He’s Jeff George. Huge arm. Can occasionally bowl you over with a play or two. But all in all he is not a smart QB. And very poor at working through his progressions, which is a deadly weakness in the NFL.

Notice how much more crisp the ball got out of the pocket today? None of that Jay waits and waits and waits for his primary stuff.

        • SC Dave

Cutler’s big problem has always been vision. Such a shame, since with that he could really have been a baller. Then again, had my aunt balls…

  • underway
  • johnnywad

Its okay to not Cutler and Clausen. Clausen isn’t good because you don’t like Cutler. Jimmy completed 58% today for 181 yards. Known what that means? We’re fucked. That’s why that means.

    • willbest

It would look a lot better with only 3 drops instead of a ridiculous 7.

      • johnnywad

Sure. I agree. But let’s not pretend the receivers haven’t been dropping balls all season. I get your point, but drops are part of every game. Seven is high, but not unheard of. Does anybody think the Bears score today without really bad Lions miscues? I don’t. No making a stand for Jay here, just saying Clausen isn’t the answer. He’s not even a bridge.

        • BerwynBomber

GB’s eight last week was the highest single game total in the NFL this year. Seven is very high comparatively.

          • johnnywad

Well it sounds like we agree.

          • BerwynBomber

Mostly. But I would say seven is almost unheard of. The Alshon ones were especially troubling.

          • johnnywad

Yep. I have a hard time putting much stock in individual performances right now though given the state of things. It would be hard to perform well in the current environment at any position. Let alone something that requires the concentration to play WR.

Net net for me is the offense did nothing without lots of help from Detroit. Cutler or Clausen or any other player to be named is nearly irrelevant until the new coach arrives. Now if Clausen had come in today and tore it up, different story.

          • BerwynBomber

He basically played smart ball until the very last play of the game. We have seen Cutler do that twice in 14 starts this year: SF and Atlanta.

To me that was a very striking difference.

Anyway, we will see how he does next week on the road. I hope they elevate Fales to #2 in the meantime.

          • johnnywad

Fair point. I just don’t want to roll into 2015 with Clausen as a starter.

          • BearDown100393

I really don’t think anyone has made a case for that position.

          • johnnywad

It’ll start this week. Listen to a little sports radio and prepare to lose it

          • BearDown100393

A little sports radio is hazardous to one’s sanity.

          • BerwynBomber

Depends on the majority of the conversation. If it is an indictment of Cutty and a reason to run him out of town, I have no issue with it. If it is about Clausen being an answer, yep tap the brakes.

          • Big Mike

Point that made was an ok QB can succeed in trestmans offense

          • johnnywad

I don’t think we agree on today’s result from Clausen. 181 yards is not successful to me.

          • Big Mike

Scored more points in first half than Cutler. Didn’t lose the game felt more like we were competing

          • willbest

I can play shoulda coulda woulda too. 10 points for the Bears O if the kick the easy FG and Detroit doesn’t get a PI no call.

    • Big Mike

Clausen didn’t lose the game today. He played well. Fuck cutler πŸ™‚

    • BearDown100393

Jimmy Clausen is not the answer. And yet with only 2 practice days and not having a start in 4 seasons, did not embarrass the Bears against a top defense.

      • johnnywad

Pretty sure he’s been practicing all year. I’ve never played so I don’t know how much difference getting first team reps makes, bit he’s been on the field working with the team since Summer. I don’t know what qualifies as embarrassing, but the offense did nothing. Two touchdowns off of Lions gifts. That’s it.

        • BearDown100393

The number of reps with the starters is huge. Usually incomplete passes is on the backup for not having a sense of rhythm with the receivers. Oddly most were dropped passes from a normally reliable receiver (Jeffery). At no time was there an urgency to even consider bringing #6 into the game. At the very most, Clausen demonstrated he could be a reliable backup.

      • SC Dave

        Don’t forget seven drops.

        • Cormonster

What, are you a Clausen apologist now? He had a 77 QBR today.

          • SC Dave

Hope that’s not the impression, Corm. Was not intending it that way.

There is no need to apologize for Clausen’s play today. Nor of the team at large. First time in a while. First time with a new QB.

            Coincidence? Who knows – I certainly don’t

Maybe we learn more next week. I just laugh at all the posters writing over the past week that there is nothing to learn about Jimmy Clausen. So completely opposite the *reality* that there is nothing more to learn about Jay Cutler.

And though you of course don’t owe me it Corm, I’d appreciate you admonishing me to get my ass off this blog if I ever become the Yonny of Jimmy Clausen.

      • iowabearsfan

how can you be so sure he is not the answer? Not saying he is, but he could be. Don’t see why not. If he’s given a chance, he may very well surprise you.

  • Big Mike

Drunk post. Fuck cutler. Keep Trestman. Go Bears. Alshon WTF. Defense played their dicks off

    • SC Dave

Jury is still out for me on Trestman. It certainly seemed that Clausen shows a better clue how to inspire his teammates than Cutler has. Don’t know, of course, as I’m not on the field. But it certainly looked that way from the other side of the TV lens.

      • Big Mike

More drunk posting I love you SC Dave

      • Big Mike

All I can say and this is entirely through fan goggles, the game was way more interesting than I thought it would be for positive reasons that had me cheering for the win, instead of hoping for the loss. That was a huge turn around. I expected the Bears were going to get wrecked. in the end it worked out the best possible way. Bears were competitive it was a fun game to watch, but we didn’t muck up our draft position, Clausen didn’t light it up and cause a great QB argument, trestman didn’t do anything spectacular enough to save his job. So all is well. I’m much less convinced Trestman needs to go, but it wouldn’t bother me. My co-conspirator brother, believes in Trestman.

  • Jack Lacan

We should get some of those Buffalo Wild Wings fans…

It was sad to see Cutler’s reaction after the two TD passes thrown by Clausen. No sign of joy or excitement for his teammates. Sad.

DaBearsBlog @dabearsblog “Did Ross really say Philbin back? That’s a major Harbaugh suitor off the board.”

I was never convinced Miami was canning Phibin anyway. Team played competitive ball and Tannenhiill showed some signs of progress. It is probably enough to give Philbin another year.

  • SC Dave

Okay, so I was not supposed to do the drunk posting thing but..

Thank you, Bears defense, for once again putting up a spirited early game to try to keep us in the game.

Thank you, Jimmy and the offense. for at least not going three and out over and over, and for (gasp!) scoring a TD in the first half.

And despite the final, thank you, Chicago Bears, for the first time in several weeks, letting me wear the colors without humiliation.

          • SC Dave

I’m not playing, fanboi. Cutler sucks. Deal with it.

          • iowabearsfan

            bears were plus 2

          • madscout12

            I stand corrected.

Look up a game where Cutler was +2 in turnovers and lost.

    • Cormonster

The Bears had 4 three and outs today. They had 3 drives longer than 6 plays. They had a grand total of 234 yards. Not too impressive.

On defense, the Bears forced one punt today on the Lions first possession. ONE! Two “stops” were at the end of halves. The defense did get two picks today thanks to terrible decisions by Stafford, so I’ll give them credit for that. The Lions also had 138 rushing yards, their most all season by over 20 yards. Nothing is different this week, other than the fact the Lions tried to beat themselves today.

      • madscout12

        So much this^^^

  • SC Dave

Jeff: “He didn’t spark anything on offense.” Whatever, Jeff. He sparked more in one game than his predecessor has sparked in over two months.

    • John Doe

He looked more decisive in the offense. He made good reads and got the ball out of quickly. All the things we did not see from Cutler.

Clausen seemed to play as if he had played in this offense much longer than Cutler. If Trestman had balls, he could have saved his job by benching Cutler 4 games ago.

      But fanbois will be fanbois.

      • johnnywad

Cutler threw for 100 more yards against the Lions than Clausen.

        • John Doe

Yes, we know Cutler is best QB in garbage time.

          • johnnywad

Perhaps. But your post about Clausen saving Trestman’s job is what got me going. Trestman should have been fired long ago. He isn’t capable of leading an NFL team. If you really think Clausen going off for 181 yards is merit enough to assume he could have saved Trestman’s job with a few more starts, I can’t help you.

        • SC Dave

And lost by 11 fewer points

          • johnnywad

Oh shit… ef me. πŸ™‚ Indeed.

  • SC Dave

Wow, by Jeff’s tweets. I’d say he’s butthurt that Clausen did not immolate the team like Cutler did last week. I really did not think he was such a Cutler fanboi.

He has revealed that all year. He is basically Waffle without the cursing/insults.

Cutler doesn’t need to be willing to restructure his deal. The Bears retain the right to convert salary to signing bonus. They can lower his cost to any suitor if they want to take the cap hit. In fact, doing that might get them a better draft pick.

Go Panthers! Keep those cowardly bounty hunters out of the playoffs – right where they belong!

Actually, if the football gods smile upon us they could win it with a 6-8-2 record

      • SC Dave

        That would be even better!

    • NewBearInTown

Seattle won at 7-9 in 2010. Interestingly enough, Seattle could easily be the 5th seed this year. If the Saints had won this week, they could have hosted Seattle and delivered a wildcard week revenge win after being eliminated in 2010 by that horrible Seattle team.
New Orleans can’t do it now, but Atlanta or Carolina can.

  • huntinbare

O.K. boys…I didn’t get to here the game or see it due to a heavy FLA. Media bias…I read the thread and came to no conclusions; other than we are not a mistake free team. Errors caused us and nearly caused the Lions to lose…but I am happy to hear there was effort. So nothing changes right; heads are still on the butcher block?

    • Big Mike

      Clausen saved trestmans job.

      • SC Dave

Too early to tell, but it did look a little less like the system today.

      • johnnywad

Two quarterbacks have thrown for fewer yards this year against the Lions than Clausen did today. One was Eli Manning, the other was Aaron Rodgers which will prove to be a giant fluke.

E.J. Manuel, Geno Smith, Josh McCown and Jay Cutler all threw for more yards than Clausen against the Lions. Teddy Bridgewater did it twice. What the hell are you seeing that I didn’t?

        • Big Mike

The Bears were competitive. They scored to keep ig close. Stats lie.

        • SC Dave

No turnovers other than a last-gasp hail mary. Two touchdowns. An actual lead in time of possession ,(in the first half, at least).

Not sure what the blog might think, but my opinion is that there was no second half blow-out because the offense did not leave them on the field the entire first half by getting shut out with almost no first downs.

          • johnnywad

That’s not unreasonable. And again, I’m no longer trying to make a case for Cutler. The Bears will do whatever they will do. But Jimmy Clausen is not a QB we can hang our hat on. That was not good quarterback play today. But there are so many with enough dislike for Cutler, that they can’t think objectively. Whatever one may think of Cutler, Clausen was not good today. Not screwing up isn’t enough. The quarterback needs to move the offense and win games. Jay hasn’t done it this year and Jimmy didn’t do it today.

          • BerwynBomber

Clausen played noticeably better — quicker in his decisions and only one bad pass all day, which was the last one on a 4th and 10.

But even if you want to argue they are a wash, fine. One guys costs $22M this year. The other costs $645. See a problem?

          • johnnywad

No. Because I keep posting it isn’t about Cutler. But it keeps being drawn back to that. Remove him from the equation. Clausen isn’t good. What does that have to do with Jay’s salary?

        • Big Mike

7-7 at half. Lost by 6 to a team that might claim the #1 or #2 seed in the NFC. Looked like a professional football team today.

          • johnnywad

Precisely. Seven first half points. And that was a gift courtesy of the Lions. If Stafford isn’t doing his best to give away the game, its 28-0 at half. But if you’re cool with Clausen and his lone first half touchdown on a short field then hell, let’s roll with it.

So just to be clear, you said 7 as though it was 21.

          • Big Mike

relax, it was just a post during the game. Who knows, right? Game was more fun to watch than most we’ve played in this year. So, maybe Clausen did give Trestman more hope. More likely Trestman helped showcase Clausen so he can stick around in the league a few more years. The Bears clown car of 2014 rolls on.

I really don’t understand why people get so married to their opinions on who stays or go.

Hope Marc shares his future salary with Pickles…judging from the last few weeks sentiment Pickles will need some body guards to navigate the city after being blamed for that save.

        • Big Mike

          Funny

        • Big Mike

I don’t think Clausen saved Clausen’s job with the Bears. I do think Clausen earned some more time in the NFL.

  • John Doe

It was a good loss for draft position. Atlanta and Carolina won. And looks like Giants will win too.Bears can move into #7 draft position.

    • Big Mike

This is what matters. Bears competitive but didn’t screw up draft position. Young bucks o. Defense looked ok

  • huntinbare

I refuse to mention his name but that Detroit center is messed up in his thinking apparatus and his heart…I hope the photo of him stepping on Fergie’s ankle will be grist enough to unleash the Bear with a sore tooth mentality next year when we meet his group of Lions…

  • BillW

I must have watched a totally different game than you guys did. I saw a an offense get shut out if not for two bonehead st plays by the lions

Yes 7 drops by the receivers. Last I knew they are part of the offense too

D played much better. Does that save Tucker too(for those that think Clausens “stellar” performance saves trestman

To me it’s a moment of clarity. Trestman should have benched cutler a few weeks ago. His system is good but he is still too wimpy to be ahc

And emery should be fired for hiring him and signing cutler

And the bear hug long gave trestman could mean he hates cutler. Anyway if they can get rid of him they should. Seems cutler is a divisive player as opposed to a leader

    • SC Dave

The offense was not great to be sure, but the Lions *are* one of the top five defenses in the NFL.

The offense *did* actually have a time of possession advantage at halftime, which I’ll be damned if I can remember happening all season. So different than all the 3 and outs in the first half we’ve become accustomed to.

Regardless of what you want to attribute it to. the offense DID keep us in the game early by not exhausting the defense yet again. I found that encouraging, albeit not quite acceptable.

    • Big Mike

Defense was better because the offense scored in the first qtr

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

we scored in the first quarter???? what game were you watching?

        • Big Mike

          meant half. You’re right.

    • huntinbare

They wrote that JC spent a lot of time getting Pickles ready and that he was there with QC during game giving his imput….Pickles praised him for this…maybe he is better at coaching than playing?

      • BerwynBomber

I wrote this last night but I almost wonder if Cutty cares all that much about being benched. I also never thought he would act like Favre if had to make way for someone else.

  • johnnywad

    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/12/21/durkin-quarterback-change-doesnt-spark-bears-offense/

I look forward to a fresh start with a new staff. I don’t even give a shit who the quarterback is anymore. Blow the whole thing up and start fresh.

    • Cormonster

Bears are 3-8 against the NFC North under Trestman, and have only beat one team with a winning record. Good job Marc.

  • BillW

Reports say cutler likely to return

Reports say Tennessee interested in cutler

Reports say reporters don’t know anymore than we do

    • huntinbare

Reporters should be thankful we have set the info on a tee for them to swing at…now they can say anything and make it seem relevant.

  • johnnywad
    • Big Mike

That’s as dumb of an article as I’ve seen. Makes no sense and runs around in a circle. Clausen didn’t do better than Cutler statistically, but yet he kept the Gawks on the gamie for about a million dollars less for the afternoon.

  • Viva

Gents, we’ve given up 429 points so far this year. That is almost equal to the total number of points we gave up in 2005 and 2006 combined.

Our defense is historically shit. Our HC, at best, is a predictable tactician.

Lest we forget, this fucking game is about winning. Trestman is a loser.

    • SC Dave

As is Cutler. And Emery, for that matter.

    • huntinbare

Historically shit…that is the stuff archaeological minds want to dig up analyze and carbon date….that is monumental shit

      • Trac

They better hurry, the cool down rate is accelerating and once the cool down temp is reached, no way to tell for sure.

  • Trac

To me, the most impressive season has been turned in by the Steelers. Since I’ve been a football fan, they have always been relevant. They weren’t supposed to do jack this year and not only are they in the playoffs, they can win their division next week when they play the Bengals.

    • SC Dave

I think I’d go with the Cardinals right now, especially considering how tough that division was supposed to be.

      • Trac

Yes, but they won’t be going far with a third string QB.

        • willbest

I disagree. The Cardinals can beat whatever NFCS team they have to play with their 3rd string, and they will have Staton back before they have to go up to Seattle.

          • Trac

            Meh

  • unrelated to our game: as i was driving to the supermarket i had the giants game on the radio. bowman missed a tackle and the color guy said, “and there’s zachary bowman trying his patented no-arm tackle. it’s got to work one of these days, right?”

    • Trac

      I liked him though.

      • was great at getting special teams penalties.

  • NewBearInTown

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/21/report-harbaugh-decision-will-be-swift/

Well, if we’re looking to trade for Harbaugh, it will be a lot easier if we fire Trestman tomorrow. That gives us a week to interview someone of color and then start negotiations with the Niners.

Interesting conspiracy theory. We fire Trestman, promote Tucker to interim HC and interview him for the job, we also give him a one year extension as DC (with guaranteed salary) before promptly firing him when we hire Harbaugh. The Bears get the Rooney rule out of the way. Tucker gets paid off to literally be the token black guy.

    • BerwynBomber

If Harbaugh will make up his mind that quick than he has already made up his mind. Firing Trestman tomorrow vs. next Monday probably gains nothing.

    • John Doe

Trading Harbaugh is good in theory but won’t work in practice.

Harbaugh has reportedly said that he will refuse to sign a new contract with the team he is traded to if it is a team he does not want to go to. So easier said than done.

49ers most likely will just fire him.

  • Big Mike

Before I forget… Nice job defense, scoring in first half made defense better, punter did not punt great, Clausen gets to stay in The NFL for s few more years, need to resign Ratliffe, really liked the defensive line the last 4-5 games, did McClelin make a tackle today? Trestman might survive.

    • BearDown100393

Contact with the punter did give the Bears a 1st down. Long limb benefit of having a 6’5 punter?

      • Big Mike

We seem to have gotten a few of those. So maybe a good thing, or maybe real close to getting a bunch of punts blocked.

  • willbest

It is a shame the Seahawks are going to win this game. If the Cardinals win Dallas will have nothing to play for and the Skins might get to 5-11 and maybe fall below the bears on the draft board.

    • BerwynBomber

LOL. You have all the angles covered.

    • John Doe

Washington will not fall below the Bears in draft position even if they finish 5-11 because their SOS is lower.

  • John Doe

5 teams are at 6-9 as of week 16.

Bears better not get that 6th win against Vikings. Will prove costly (3-4 spots) in the draft and could have a major impact in terms of players available especially in the first 3-4 rounds.

    • Trac

What position do we draft if we get the 7th pick? QB?

      • BerwynBomber

Depends on whether Winston is still available and if you believe in him. After him and Mariota, there is not another top ten QB.

        • Trac

QB driven league so no they won’t be on the board.

        • There will be more interesting prospects at the top of the 2nd, like that ucla qb

          • John Doe

Brett Hundley is a not a good QB. Will not succeed in the NFL. Not all running QBs are good. Need to have the ability/potential to be a pocket passer.

          • I agree in general about running qbs, but doesn’t ucla run a prostyle o? And isn’t his completion % in the high 60s.
I havnt watched too much tape on him, so yeah. I have to do more homework

          • John Doe

No, Hundley was not good at all this year. He looked much better last year and his stock would have been high had he entered the draft.

      • John Doe

I doubt Mariota and Winston will be available at #7. Plus I prefer Garrett Grayson, QB CSU in 2nd or 3rd round.

I am hoping USC DT Leonard Williams falls and is available. Right now, most draftniks have him as a top 5 pick and #1 defensive player in the draft.

Not sure Landon Collins is worth #7.

        • Yup, Williams is top d guy. Haven’t checked out Grayson yet, but I will

        • Trac

If Winston is gone, I’d trade down a couple of spots and get an extra pick for Landon Collins maybe. There’s a pretty good DE available as well I think.

          • John Doe

Agreed, DE has become a position of need given how Allen has looked, Houston with his stupid injury and now Willie Young down with Achilles heel.

  • huntinbare

Our future rests heavy on the 2015 draft…the player we will pick will be expected to have a sudden impact; and who he is hangs in the balance of how next week shakes out…it is almost like a game that has the importance equivalent to a game with playoff implications….

    • BillW

Our future rests heavy on the decisions George makes

      • huntinbare

That could be scary..I wonder at times who he goes to and shares his deepest thoughts about his team. Who does he confide in for strong councel and direction?

        • John Doe

If Emery stays after his Trestman and Cutler blunders, then I will have very little hope for Bears until that man is Bears GM.

And it looks like the silver-tongued bullshitter Emery may have talked them out of firing him.

  • huntinbare

I just hope our new coach is someone who our players have familiarity with and hold in high regard; so that they can buy into the change that is coming. I hope whoever is deciding takes this factor into account…..we seemed to be lacking unity when the least bit of adversity began to surface… We couldn’t even muster up a proper response to 5 yard penalties.

  • BerwynBomber

That should be it for AZ.

SEA will be a damn tough out in the post-season.

  • Trac

    Seattle
    Vs
    Steela’s

    Improbable super bowl say you?

    • John Doe

I would like to see Seahawks vs. Patriots.

Pete Carroll will extract his revenge on Robert Kroft. That will be some storyline.
