• BillW

First to say interesting feature Jeff

  • BillW

Anyone realize the game is on cbs Sunday? . Tim Ryan and Johnny Morris with the call.

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, what is that about? Shouldn’t two NFC teams be on Fox?

      • DaBearsBlog

This is a 2014 change. They are flexing games between networks.

        • johnnywad

Future Bears games are going to be flexed to CSPAN

      • CanadaBear

I think it was the home opener against Buffalo which normally would have been on CBS was on Fox. Typically when teams play out of conference games, the away team’s network would carry the game. Definitely creates confusion after using the same rules for decades.

    • GPLDAN

      Johnny Morris??

      • BillW

Too young to remember when the NFL/NFC were on CBS? Very often Tim Ryan and Johnny Morris were the announcing team.

  • BillW

I voted turn the offense around. I want him out but the question was what does he have to do. If he turns the offense around he will keep his job. If not he should be fired because that’s what he was hired to do.

    • SC Dave

Logic is unassailable. He was, in fact, hired to turn around the offense.

  • Bears-4-Ever

I picked #4 since there was no “Resign” option. I like this feature…seems to work. Thanks Jeff.

  • Jack Lacan

Poll – an excellent feature – very cyber-savvy…and culturally relevant.

  • NewBearInTown

Like the idea of a poll, not a fan of the software. You leave the page to cast your vote or see results. There are a lot of ads to click through. The timeline data and pie chart aren’t really so helpful. Meh.

    • DaBearsBlog

That wasn’t happening this morning. It seems now you leave the page. Next poll you won’t.

  • Scott W.

Wondered when or if polls would be integrated here. With bugs worked out, could be good Jeff.

  • GPLDAN

Buffone picked the Vikes to win and gave the points.

    Buffone hates Trestman

    • BillW

No doubt – not his kind of coach. In typical Bear defense pride, he hates them being soft as a grape (in his words) and blames Trestman for that.

    • SC Dave

Buffone is no more relevant than Peter King.

  • GPLDAN
    • BillW

The guy actually gets away with having a twitter account with that word in it? I think he may be in for more trouble than the Patriots if it’s ever revealed who he is.

(Love this poll – voted 4 times already!)

      • SC Dave

Dork. Vote once and be done.

        • BillW

Born and raised in Chicago. Multiple voting is a time honored tradition. . The other three were were for my deceased dad uncle grandpa

  • GPLDAN

Bills gonna dump them some EJ Manuel at the end of the season

  • BillW

Best part of the poll – you can vote more than once. In true Chicago tradition (vote early and vote often!)

  • wreckinball

I think its a week to week thing. Earlier this week I thought that Trestman survives the year no matter what. Not sure now. The Bears are being criticized and mocked all over the national media not just Chicago media. Its way worst than the next closest dumpster fire, the Jets.
Lose to the Vikes it will amp up even more. Get embarassed by the Vikes and I think its over next week.

    • BillW

If embarrassed by the Vikes then it will take a lot of guts for the McCaskeys to let Emery keep him. (Make no mistake – they will need to be on board with whatever Phil decides. I had a lot of bosses like that – I had full authority to do whatever I wanted as long as they approved.)

But I hold to my belief that the Bears put it together this week enough to be at least 1 point better than Minny.

      Whoop de frickin’ do!

      • DaBearsBlog

Let’s be honest. If the Bears lose Sunday I don’t know how Trest survives.

        • BillW

It’s so very sad that the only excitement our beloved can drum up is negative.

          If they win – “meh”.
If they lose – we all EXPECT Tresty is gone but somehow I don’t think so unless it’s another blowout at halftime with the Bears scoring less than 14.

They are looking for reasons to keep him through the year at least. Improvement will be enough I think. Ignoring that losing to Mn say 31-14 is itself a Jeffersonian result.

          • wreckinball

31-14 wouldn’t be bad enough, I think he stays but is at the end of the plank, Lose to Lovie bye bye

          • GPLDAN

            Nope.

He could get blown out both games, and he’s here to the end. I see that now.

This organization is devoid of the pride needed to be anything but gutless and corporate in their approach.

          • wreckinball

I guess we’ll see how much they can stand. If they win temporary reprieve. ESPN, NFL Network, Sirius radio talk shows blast the Bears pretty much non-stop.
Monday I felt the same way as you did. After the intial pressers I was even more convinced but its going to get really bad. If they get behind Sunday its going to be an extremely ugly scene. It will be much worse than vintage Saints Lions because they expected to suck.

        • Trac

Do you really think Emery will be able to handle the truth if that happens Jeff? I don’t think so. Trestman will remain through 2015 no matter what.

  • BillW

The map is fascinating. On my computer at least it starts out in the Atlantic Ocean just off the west coast of Africa – where a Jui Jitsu club is apparently located (yes, in the water.)

  • BillW

Found the Jeffs logo. Got tired of George looking at me.

  • guest

Clicking through about ten screens just to vote …? It should be vote, see results, gone. Voting is a good idea though.

    • Trac

Your dream scenario was how my experience was. You must have hit the upgrade button by mistake.

  • Trac

I guess I’m in the majority. I just want Tresty to turn this thing around. That’s really what would help this team the most. For him to suck the rest of the year is worst possible outcome in my opinion.

  • GPLDAN

  • This is a cool idea, Jeff. If you don’t mind me asking, what poll service are you using? Is it a WordPress widget?

    • also, did you mean to allow multiple votes?

      • DaBearsBlog

I didn’t mean to do anything. I just used this program someone sent my way. Going to find a better service for next week.

        • EnderWiggin

          • Beware the Jericho

man, MB really fucking stuck to his guns. Said he was out and meant it. I waffled on my decision.

          • GPLDAN

            waffled, ha!

          • johnnywad

He’s locked up in the basement of some exotic whorehouse.

          • Trac

The least he can do is send us some pics from his trip to Suid Afrika.

          • DaBearsBlog

Am literally on that site now. Looks pretty good. Will use them next week.

      • Beware the Jericho

in Chicago if you’re not multi-voting you’re just not trying.

        • BillW

Speaking of which – Jane Byrne passed away.

  • Beware the Jericho

    So, you’re telling me there’s a chance…..
Seattle, New Orleans, NYG, St.Louis, Wash, Det, GB all in games that they could lose this weekend. Bears win and we’re one step closer to the 2nd wildcard.

    #tradewindstockowner
    #winoutandRodgersdiessuddenly

    • Bears-4-Ever

      “So, you’re telling me there’s a chance…..”

To get totally embarrassed in the first round of the Play-offs? Of course there is. I think I’d rather skip that and move on to next year thanks.

Oh and I don’t think Rogers has to die. Maybe get both arms ripped off or something…that should do it.

      • EnderWiggin

I’m confused. You don’t want to go to the first round of the playoffs?

        • Bears-4-Ever

You are correct. I would rather not go to the first week of the play-offs with the Bears team we currently have. I think the writing is on the wall when it comes to this season. If our current team somehow got to the first round they would be pummeled and embarrassed.

If by some miracle the Bears get to the play-offs I of course will be cheering for them. IF is a rather huge word in this case. Sorry, I’m pretty much done with this season…depressed and done.

          • johnnywad

If the Bears miraculously made it to the playoffs, that could only mean they are rolling and kicking ass. That would mean they’ve beaten the Lions twice. That would mean they’ve put meaningful football games back in front of me. I don’t think for one second that that’s what is going to happen, but if it did, I’d be driving the meatball bus to the first playoff game.

        • wreckinball

          Don’t worry it’s not happening

    • SC Dave

You know, Johnny, if we slam that craft beer in each other’s honor right before each of the rest of the games, it may just cause enough of a ripple in The Force to get Rodgers to retire.

I don’t see any other way out of this shit. It’s up to us now, man. I need to get to the beer store tomorrow to find the right one.

GP brings Da Funny. Canseco channels some Irish:

Inspired by the Philae spacecraft landing on a speeding comet, Jose Canseco, Cuban-American former Major League Baseball, decided to tweet heavy knowledge about science and what it means for human space travel.

He shared his thoughts about the landing of Philae lander on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko on Wednesday.

He tweeted some theories about how ‘comet transport is the key to our survival’, saying it would open up new industries like ‘asteroid mining and interstellar trade.

Canseco explained that using comets isn’t a new thing. Galactic Beings are a solid synth-rock band, and they’ve been using comets for a while now and they have used comets as star taxis for eons.

His tweets include that comets are faster than anything we could ever build and if Earth can control the comet transport system, humans will run the Milky Way. He imagined rich strip-mining and sightseeing economies opening up throughout the galaxy.

He also tweeted that comets open up new business like galaxy touring cruising, asteroid mining, interstellar trade, and planet colonies.

    • Bears-4-Ever

OMG if this wasn’t true it would be funny. GP, thanks for bringing this up. Wow….Can we get Jose and a real scientist on CNN and have a debate? Wow…

      http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/11/jose-canseco-comet-transport-mlb

    • BillW

Canseco also said we can go to the sun to get all the fuel we need on Earth. Asked how we do that without burning up, he said “We’ll land at night”.

I get sick of reading the Guardian’s Peppermint Patty crowd.

Every fucking thing is about aggrieved women and rape. There is this one columnist, Jessica Valenti, holy shit is she a Andrea Dworkin kook.

        • Cormonster

I have a couple female cousins that are part of that crowd. They are annoying beyond belief at times. One of them is the editor of a magazine at a non-profit that prints lots of articles on the victimization of women.

I would hate to be a college student in California after the recently passed consent law. I guess you have to ask for permission now to make a move, even to first base.

          • GPLDAN
          • Cormonster

The “War on Womyn” and “Rape Culture” rhetoric so prevalent among many left wing media outlets has been a major losing issue outside of very Democrat leaning states.

          • Doc Hamstring

what are left wing media outlets? MSNBC?

          • Cormonster

That would be one, but pretty far down the totem pole.

          • Doc Hamstring

So seriously, what are “left wing media outlets”? You mean web sites? Because on broadcast media, aside from MSNBC, there really is no such thing as a left wing TV/radio network.

          • Cormonster

Maybe left-leaning would be a better term. Half of print media, including the big content providers like AP and Reuters. The New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, etc. PBS, NPR, and most state affiliates are left leaning. I don’t watch a lot of TV news shows, but NBC news is definitely left, along with most of the local news shows on CBS and ABC. Stewart and Colbert are left leaning. The Nation. Many internet sites.

The right owns cable news with Fox, along with most of the talk radio shows. It’s obvious by the ratings.

          • SC Dave

It’s why the libs hate Fox so pathologically. They are the ONLY TV network that does not feed their left-leaning confirmation bias.

          • Cormonster

I’m no fan of Fox News, but I tend to agree.

          • SC Dave

            Ha ha ha ha

      • SC Dave

Yeah… I mean, let’s keep this shit in perspective.

  • Cormonster

For those who like watching great running backs, look no further than the Wisconsin-Nebraska game tomorrow. Amir Abdullah and Melvin Gordon are both home-run hitters that are electrifying to watch. Melvin Gordon is arguably the best back in the draft. He’s probably going to be the best pro back out of Wisconsin since Alan “The Horse” Ameche. He’s a great power runner with break away speed. Gordon and Ameche are both from my home town Kenosha, so I may be a little biased.

  • GPLDAN

Marshall has challenged a fan to a fight based on a Twitter war.

When Emery told him to stand down, he defied him and said “I shut him up good.” to a reporter.

Him (being Phil Emery), because Emery had the audacity to tell him to check his contract.

Now Trestman is, of course, dodging it – and saying things like “we are monitoring social media” and all kinds of crazy corporate speak.

Man this Bears team. Abe Gibron, we miss you…fuck

    • wreckinball

      Can you imagine Ditkas response?

      Trestman is ridiculous

      • GPLDAN

Trestman is an ass clown. Worst Bear coach ever.

        This is ridiculous.

        • Doc Hamstring

          Dave Wannstedt begs to disagree.

        • SC Dave

I can only imagine your hatred for Trestman if he kicked Marshall to the curb for it.

      • Jack Lacan

        Ditkus???

    • SC Dave

So, a life-long problem child has another tantrum, and it’s (new) step-dad fault?

  • GPLDAN

When reporters are comparing temperature of locker room to Wannstedt era…yikes. Many too young to remember how dysfunctional that was.

I’m old enough to remember both regimes very very well.

Wanny was awful, but this is much much much much worse. This is a team that may not show up Sunday.

As in – not show up. Not come. Stay home.

That’s where things are right now.

    • SC Dave

How the fuck do you pretend to know that?

    • EnderWiggin

You must be in their locker room with Mannelly and Urlacher to know this.

  • wreckinball

Are we at rock bottom You’d think yes Not sure these Bears have shovels

    • GPLDAN

Brandon is trying to get Showtime and other cable outlets to partner with him showing him beating up a fan.

      Grow the man indeed.

          Mongo and Fridge at WWF.

      • CanadaBear

Personally I’d love to see it. The guy insulted his mother. I’d pay to see the look on the guy’s face when Brandon takes off his robe. At 6’4″, 230, ripped and certifiably crazy, that guy would be having a litter of kittens in his corner.

        • BerwynBomber

I’m torn: i’m with you about the mother thing. Why people bring up a person’s loved ones is beyond me. Well, I know why they do it (to taunt) but it’s low as hell. But yeah, it would be funny if it was some Brent Grimes-sized dude who smoked him.

Btw, does anyone know if BM is on meds to control his behavior?

          • CanadaBear

I really don’t know but just assumed he’s on meds. Really wish Chicago athletes stayed off social media but that’s not realistic. Don’t know why you’d want to subject yourself to that hooey.

          • SC Dave

Everyone should stay off social media. Especially me.

          • EnderWiggin

I’m pretty sure he is taking no meds. At least that was the route his treatment center went at the time.

  • GPLDAN

Brandon going to beat up a fan to promote anti-bullying?!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAH

He’s an embarrassment to the mental health causes he promotes.

    • Doc Hamstring

You have to remember he’s still suffering from the disorder. He’s not cured. Hopefully his mental health professional intervenes, and soon. This is, in many ways, his BPD manifesting. He’s trying to put a positive spin on it (charity, etc.), but this is BPD behavior.

  • Doc Hamstring
    • CanadaBear

      Nobody admits it.

  • Sactowns#1

Man… I think the fans are so much more down on the team than the team is on themselves. I see Jay and Brandon showing up this weekend as well as our D. Bear down gents!

  • tobijohn

I’m as crazy as everyone else about how this season has tanked but my trading background makes this feel like a panic selloff. Got to put on your big boy pants, fight the fear, buck the trend, step into the heat and go long here. I’m not saying they’re going to turn it around this year but I think we’re due for a bounce. I’m going against what my head is telling me but I think the Bears are going to win pretty handily this week. My head is also telling me to be prepared to eat a big plate of crow…

    • BerwynBomber

I’m not sure about handily but there is no reason that, AT THE LEAST, Bears shouldn’t be competitive. Even the games Minny has won have been in squeaker range.

    • CanadaBear

I have zero expectations but I know we have enough talent to win. My biggest issue is the lack of heart. It reminds me of Cubs teams over the years that were shitty but also snake-bitten. At some point it was always, “here we go again” with the hangdog look and the next thing you know it’s lights out.

      • SC Dave

The quitting is what is so discouraging.

        • CanadaBear

Yeah both games they just folded the tent. I have to give a tip of the lid to Bellichick and McCarthy for not running up the score. Both teams could have scored 70 if they wanted to.

    • Trac

Fear is an emotion you have before the bucket of Bear excrement falls on you as you watch it fall from the ledge overhead. The feeling that comes after it hits you is quite different. Smh tobi. Hee hee.

      • tobijohn

My analytical and logical mind is with you Trac but if the Bears were a commodity, I’d say this is a good level to pick at least a temporary bottom. Or put it this way, if I was short the Bears (which every trend follower would be) then I’d be taking my profits right about here and looking to get back in on the short side after a bounce back up (say, right before Thanksgiving)…
