• Trac

New day, new expections, go Mutph, go Bears.

    • MB30SD

      Have fun murph!!!

I still love you trac, no matter how misled you are.

(see what I did there? HAHAHAHAHA!)

      • tobijohn

You! You troublemaker. Just like the Wizard of Oz, the man behind the curtain, pulling all the strings…

        • SC Dave

More like yanking on chains, but I’m not one to quibble. Well, maybe now and then.

      • Trac

Hahaha. Wounded in my house of friends. Lol. Have a great time with the bro and chillins.

      • Forgive them for they know not what they do?

  • tobijohn

When you assume the worst is going to happen, most of the pressure dissipates. Now I can enjoy the game. Maybe….

    • CanadaBear

That’s pretty much how I dealt with last year. Unfortunately this year has that groundhog day feel.

      • tobijohn

Unfortunately, yup. Who knows, though. The Bears lose to the teams they’re supposed to beat and win the games they’re supposed to lose. That notwithstanding, playoff teams beat the teams they’re supposed to beat and win a few games they’re supposed to lose. We shall see…

        • CanadaBear

How is the guitar acquisition business? Are you thinking of putting on an addition to the house for all the axes?

          • tobijohn

LOL, not yet. Soon though. I’ve actually sold a few off but those vacancies were quickly filled…

  • CanadaBear

Wow. I take my Beloved Bride out for dinner and all hell breaks loose. The more we stink the testier it gets around here. That is until most of us lose all hope and then it’s a free-for-all. Hate to see the regs fighting. I like all you guys so I just shake my head and wait til the dust settles.

I like Trac’s comment to start off this thread. I try to make every day start with a clean slate. I used to carry grudges and the mere mention of someone’s name could send me off on a tirade. At some point it finally dawned on me I was making myself miserable for no reason. The people I was getting so worked up over probably were out dancing and hadn’t given me a thought in forever.

Kumbaya mother fuckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Bear Down Bitches and let’s smoke these fucking Falcons.

  • CanadaBear

Amidst all the chaos and acrimony yesterday, MB had the post of the day to our resident Fudgie troll. If you didn’t see it, go back and look. It’s worth it. Like all things that are really funny, there was just so much truth to it. Well done, MB!

    • tobijohn

I did but I must have overlooked it. I’ll say this though – acrimony was the perfect word to use to describe that thread. That’s about as rough as I’ve seen it around here.(although I missed the Irish Sweetness blowout)…

      • CanadaBear

It was classic. Cheesy said he really does love this blog. MB’s reply:

jesus, just get it over with and switch over already.

        Said it all!

The Irish blowout was unfortunate. I thought his original point was that both sides (Israeli/Palestinian) had some dirt on themselves and then it ramped up into Irish was a terrorist sympathizer which I thought was total BS. I really like Irish because he always had a different take on the Bears (and the world in general). Everybody kids about his craziness but I always suspected he was bipolar and he admitted it in the last year or so. I didn’t agree with him, A LOT, but so what? I always respected that he tried not to make things personal. Oh well. Hope he comes back. As funny as a lot of guys are here on the blog, nobody was funnier than Irish when he would write his short one-act plays. The last one he wrote where at the end of the story he was looking for the number of the gay guy some newbie was trying to set him up with, was crazy funny. I had tears in my eyes by the end.

        • GPLDAN

When Irish was up – he was WAY up. He was like Pryor.

        • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Love me some Irish. I missed the blowout too. Why’d you bastards chase off my Irish Sweetness?

    • MB30SD

Thanks canada. I personally think that award goes to GP hands down.

I’m just a faceless minions, simply trying to do my part to keep all the homies entertained and laughing. Cause, that’s really what this place is fo. (sometimes I don’t even read Jeff’s piece. shhhhhh!!!!)

      • GPLDAN

That’s ok – Jeff doesn’t read us either.

        • Cormonster

Gp, I got a bone to pick with you. Bill O’Reilly wannabe? Are you serious? Call me a Ron Paul bot or an Ayn Rand nutjob, but don’t compare me to O’Reilly. I considered that an insult.

          • MB30SD

yeah GP, corm is a fucking Ayn Rand Nutjob! Not a fucking O’reilly clone!

          • GPLDAN

            (hangs head in shame)

there is so much weird in the world, it’s so hard to classify it all.

As you say, it’s better to unwrap fresh strange than step in new weird.

          • CanadaBear

Gotta agree. I’ve heard you complain about O’Reilly on more than one occasion my Libertarian friend.

          • MB30SD

OR and Oberman are the same guy.

          • CanadaBear

Two sides of the same coin for sure.

          • tobijohn

Well, I describe myself as a Republican moderate trapped in a heavy metal chassis but if either Bill O’Reilly or Sean Hannity happened to walk by me on the street, I’d feel obligated to kick either or both right in the ass…

          • CanadaBear

The talking heads for political shows on TV/radio are the worst. I’d be shocked if any of them actually believed half the shit they spew. As long as the US stays in the moderate zone politically things usually are OK. When they get to the fringes of either side, YIKES!

          • Cormonster

I never like it when the Dems or Republicans control the Presidency and both houses of Congress. Usually it leads to a lot of bad legislation.

          • SC Dave

Okay, I’ll take the bait. Do you ever see much legislation that qualifies as other than “bad”?

          • Cormonster

Not really, but one party rule usually leads to much bigger and more disastrous legislation.

          • GPLDAN

Oh ok. Sorry. I will now adjust to calling you one of the Objectivist Culties.

          • Cormonster

Thanks, I’ll take it. At least there’s some truth involved.

  • wreckinball

Did we find 11 guys to play D?

Need a lot of O and maybe make the onside a regular thing

    • GPLDAN

      Houston – Sutton – Ego – Allen
      Jones – Greene
      Fuller – Mundy – Conte – Jennings – Vereen

      THat’s a guess

      • tobijohn

Well Conte for a little while at least. As injury prone as he seems to be, I can’t see him back next year. Not unless it’s for cheap cheap cheap…

        • GPLDAN

Losing all 4 of our starting linebackers is a joke. Add to that that Conte will be concussed on the first run stop he makes, and it looks just like last year in reverse. Now we have a D line, but nobody behind them.

I wonder if James Anderson is around.

          • tobijohn

            Standing around maybe…

          • MB30SD

            *sniff*

  • AlbertInTucson

Conte. The One Hit Wonder. One hit and he wonders where he is.

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Bear the FUCK down, my sensitive infighting friends.

    • GPLDAN

Please use it wisely, there’s enough to go around.

      • MB30SD

        Oh, hell yes.

I use this stuff after every shave and it works REALLY well. I have really sensitive skin around my chin and neck, stops razor burn and bumps.

        Stuff is awesome. Highly recommend.

        • CanadaBear

          Hate the smell.

          • MB30SD

really? I’ve had more than a couple dates say they love it. I don’t mind it and 2 minutes after you put it on, you don’t even notice it anymore. works great.

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Let me ask you this, my good Shepard, could frequent acquisition of strange be achieved without it?

          • MB30SD

            of course, of course.

It’s more about my comfort level. It’s my hypothesis, that out in the th-e-ater of battle, individual nits don’t impact the outcome of the engagement.

A zit, a bump, a bruise, etc… these little individual things are overlooked for the bigger picture of, “is this guy making me feel good. Am I having fun talking to him. Does he turn me on (however that may manifest). if he confident and interesting.”

            Si?

          • CanadaBear

It always comes down to whether you trip their trigger or not. Most of the women I’ve known said they knew within 5 minutes of meeting a guy whether they would have sex with him or not (usually not). Unlike most guys. We can be talked into most anything with the correct amount of alcohol.

          • MB30SD

            very true story.

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Well I know this. If I shaved even a single hair in my body, I would follow your lead.(if that girl at the bar who guessed I was a dirt bike racer could see me now, she’d guess I was a hillbilly, A vagrant, or Charles Manson) (which is to say, my locks are long and flowing, and my beard could hide contraband)

          • CanadaBear

            DOC DYNASTY.

          • MB30SD

Awesome! I can picture you now.

Dude, if I could grow long hair I would constantly walk around looking like this: http://www.goldenglobes.com/sites/goldenglobes.com/files/imagecache/story_main_pic/jared-leto-2.jpg

            (god he’s dreamy!!!)

          • Cormonster

You got the mountain man look going for sure.

          • CanadaBear

My Beloved Bride is so sensitive to fragrances that I use unscented lotion. The only foo-foo I wear is patchouli oil. Once a hippie, always a hippie. The trick is to use a very slight amount or else you end up smelling like a Pakistani market.

          • MB30SD

            OMG CANADA!!!

You think THAT stuff smells terrible and you wear fucking patchouli oil?!?!!??!

That shit literally makes me gag. There’s an old woman at my gym who bathes in that shit before she comes in. I literally go out of my way to strateegerize how the fuck I’m going to be on the opposite side of the gym from her at all times.

It’s the most aggressive and assaulting smell I know.

But then I love cilantro, so to each his own stink right?

          • CanadaBear

Exactly! I don’t think that lady is following my advice in the last sentence. That pretty much applies to all fragrances. I worked in the control room with a lady that used to bathe in perfume. In the mornings when I worked with her, sometimes she would be right in front of me going into the parkade (I was on my bike). She would roll down the window to gain access to the parkade and the perfume would make me start coughing. Nasty!

          • MB30SD

Hahahaha… my ex is like that.

My kids, my house, the little bag of stuffed monkeys, cloths from last visit, school backpacks all smell like her perfume on drop offs. I even asked her to knock it down a few notches. She wasn’t too happy about the very respectful and nicely worded request. hahaha

          • CanadaBear

            Somehow I’m not surprised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          • MB30SD

            Hahahahahahaha! Bingo!

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

I use Dr Brohners soap and nothing else. I hate unnatural aromas.

          • MB30SD

I looooooove the sweet aroma of fresh, newly unwrapped strange. Does that count?

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

            Mmmmmmm….fresh newly unwrapped strange….

          • MB30SD

            so so soooooo nice.

I’m not an addiction guy (cept my kids), but I think I might be addicted to that. The first unveil, slowly pulling them off and kissing down, and it hits you about 6 inches away. If it’s a good one, there’s nothin’ more sweet and alluring than that smell. Yow!

            (too much?)

          • CanadaBear

            NOPE!

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

….yeah? Yeah? Go on. I’m like the dog in this video

            http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nGeKSiCQkPw

          • GPLDAN

That’s pretty close to too much. And that is me saying it. And, I agree with you.

          • tobijohn

            Patchouli oil! Flashback alert…

        • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

From now on I shall refer to you as Shep.

Have fun at he museum today, Shep.

          • MB30SD

            dont get it?

            thanks!

          • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

            Shepard.

          • MB30SD

            Ahhhhh…. I didn’t get that.

Nooooo, I don’t have minions… it’s that everyone thinks you’re an asshole buddy.

          • CanadaBear

I thought Doc was referring to the hairiness of your tribe.

          • MB30SD

hahahahaha… hairiness in all the wrong places unfortunately. Us jews have lots of hair all over, cept on the old noggin. Sucks. Luckily I shave *everything*. hee hee

  • Sactowns#1

Today is a good day gents! Let us rise to the occasion and reclaim what is rightfully ours!

  • Scott W.

Can I say I have always liked Conte without hearing shells being jacked into an 870?
He hasn’t been what we really want, but damn, I think he plays his guts out. So I guess I’ll be the lone dissenter.

    • GPLDAN

You’re not the lone dissenter. You can look at that kids eyes when he’s on the sideline and has his helmet off, and know that kid brings the fire. But the mind is one thing, the body is another.

He also takes terrible closing angles, but if he guesses right, he tries to bring the wood. Problem is, it’s a coin toss on who he hurts.

      • MB30SD

        yeah, this.

He is def a ball hawk and he brings the wood. But you need a guy back there who can tackle and be the safety valve. Oh, and stay on the field for more than a couple quarters at a time.

        • Shady

HE’S HUMPTY DUMPTY maings. He needs to be thinking about life after football maingse.

      • Scott W.

What Canada said, and now you, is where I was going. I love his fire and passion. But, as has also been accurately stated he’s fragile.
I just think we give him a bit too much grief. SOB plays his ass off. First choice? No. But if he’s all we’ve got, we could do a LOT worse.

    • CanadaBear

Nobody would argue that he’s a gamer. I think on a personal level most of us admire his willingness to mix it up and like his athleticism. What most of us don’t like is his fragility and his penchant for mistakes. Big mistakes.

      • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Agreed. If not for his lack of skill, physical ability, and smarts, we love him.

      • Peanut FTW

This. I love players with heart and hustle. He is also very athletic but you simply can’t keep someone on the roster that is out of the game by halftime every single game.

        • MB30SD

or that gives up almost a TD a game by himself?

          • tobijohn

A perfect episode for that reality show “I Get That A Lot” would be Chris Conte coming to your house posing as a plumber of HVAC guy…

          • MB30SD

            TJ!!!!!

I wouldn’t even recognize him. And if I did, I’d punch him squaah in the nutz.

        • Scott W.

Who else is available? Between him and Pringles, I was glad Pringles was the one gone. He also really laid the lumber, but he had a lower skill set than even Conte does.

  • MB30SD

Alright boys. I’m out for the day with the little ones.

Here’s hoping! Bear the fuck down!

~ Kisses to mah bitches (minion)

  • tobijohn

Scheit! I forgot it’s a late game today. I’m gonna grab a nap. Seeya alls later…

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

I have broncos v jets or packers v dolphins to choose from. Lame.

    • Cormonster

Dolphins -Packers game for sure. Scout our next opponent and my second favorite team this week.

  • jay damn it. got to the bar at 12:45 to get a prime spot for the bears game. i sit down and alex, the bartender, says, “you know they play at 4, right?”

    no, alex. i did not.

it’s going to be a long day in the bar.

    • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Well you’ll be numb to the pain. So there’s that.

    • haha I thought so too. Should’ve got some zzzz

    • SC Dave

I did the same thing, but went back home. I’ll go in later.

      • i treated myself to a killian’s and a turkey club. but now i’m out in the park watching the clock. rookie mistake.

  • This morning was meant for Redzone.

    • Shady

You’re getting Flacco’d by NBiT right now.

      So is Lovie.

      • Yeah, no shit. WTF?
I also wanted Oliver and thought I had priorities on waivers. Instead, I got Hillman WTF? Oh well.
I may finally lose this one especially with my stud Jamaal Charles on bye and Monte Ball inj.

Gio Bernard just went 89 yards, wow.

  • God damn Bucs are killing me in FF! NB started every Raven and they’re teabagging Lovie!

  • This just in. Tannenhill SUCKS.

  • Meanwhile, Chandler Jones strip sack/fumble recover of NeckBeard.

Not bitter at all. Not a bit.

  • “The five touchdowns for Joe Flacco are a career-high. Previous high was four against Chicago Bears on Dec. 20, 2009”

    And it’s only half-time.

NFL can be strange Steelers own the Browns at start f up a field goal and like a switch Browns all of a sudden unstoppable

    Sound familiar?

  • Ososfan

Kyle Fuller, will he cement himself as the best rookie defensive player this year, going against Julio Jones? Ah, forget that, I just want the beloved to win!

  • Cormonster

Dolphins tie the Packers. We might have a game. Dolphins were stupid early in the first half going for it on 4th and almost 2. Should have kicked the FG. Packers offense hasn’t done shit since the first drive.

    • Dolphins did everything they could to give it away too.

      • Cormonster

Yeah, Tannehill looks like shit today. Dolphins need to pound the ball and eat some clock. Packers are dominating time of possession

  • BerwynBomber

    Fucking Rodgers.

  • I like celebrations as much as the next man (who’s not yelling, “get off my lawn!), but celebrating a TD when you’re down 38-3 in the mid 3rd quarter is asinine. Looking at you, Mike Evans.

  • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

hard financial lesson learned today. The Packers always fold when the chips are down and I’m kicking myself for betting on them to win. They always fold and are one and done in the playoffs. One pump chumps.

    • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

so financially i lost out on 600.00 but damn it feels good to see them fucking choke. Love it.

    • Scott W.

Hey man….congrats on your unexpected win! HEH! I don’t know why, but I find this hilarious. But congrats nonetheless.

  • Jags recovered!
They’re my upset of the week. Crazy enough, I’ve been watching that game today. Wanted to see what Bortles was about.

  • Scott W.

Kickoff in around ten minutes. Wife made a new dip, Venison burgers on the menu for half time (I have mad grill skills)…
Ya know, all the negatives, all the mental shoulder slumping all week/season, I’m revved as always for kickoff, and worse (better?) … I believe…..

    Boo cheese heads win

    Phucking Phins.

  • Tell you what, they don’t know what they’re doing, but the LBs are flying!

  • Trac

Hold em, pic would be nice.

  • Shady

    Jump on the ball!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Sharpton looks faster than Williams does..

  • Trac

Swarming D. Way to go Fuller. 3 and out.

  • Trac

Good starting field position. Need to score.

  • Fuller!
The Fuller Python (Strip? Eh, Eh?)

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    All time Forte..

  • Shady

Mills you’re fucking killing me bro.

  • How about throwing a deep ball to loosen them up?

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    gimme a break!!! fuck Mills!!

  • Trac

That’s what I’m talkin bout. 1st down mattay!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    Bennett at last!!

  • Trac

Time to get our big boys more involved.

  • Trac

    Yeah baby. Alshon.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Ola holding his trench, good job!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    sweeping the field with Cutler..

  • Shady

Cutler’s brain slammed against his skull on that one.

    • Trac

Baby he’ll react like he did in the Jets game

      • Shady

Maybe, but that was a hit to his sternum, not his brain.

  • Trac

1st down. Refs called it right.

  • Shady

    Marshall strong-arming fools.

  • Great, now we have diabetes concussed Jay.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    it must be a TD

  • vi er tilbage efter pausen

  • Trac

Alshon or Bennett time I think.

  • Shady

    C’mahhhhhnn.

  • Trac

    Dang. 4th down.

  • Trac

    Tie game. I’ll take it.

  • 2nd and 3rd. Maybe run it, no?
Though that was an excellent back shoulder throw by Jay.

    • Trac

No way we shouldn’t see more production in the passing game. This is starting to become an enigma.

      • Jack Lacan

A mystery wrapped in an enigma.

  • underway

Is Marshall takin notes for his TV show? lol

  • I don’t know why Trestman continually refuses to run. Is it Jay audibling out of the run cuz he sees guys in the box?
Forte is running well. Feed him!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

fucking Hester, why does in Atlanta catch almost anything?

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    PAea!!!!

  • Trac

Sack baby. Who is this D. Lol.

    • wreckinball

      The replacements

  • Trac

Run or screen or dump off to Forte please.

  • Trac

I’m having to listen to the game. Wish I could see the oline matchups.

  • underway

I guess that short dump is the same as handing the ball off to Forte. He just has more room to operate…

  • Trac

Run to setup the pass somethings never change.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

at this pace, forte over 150 yards from the Line of S.

  • Hey, what do you know, running the ball works vs a sucky D! Genius!

  • Gonna guess. A slip screen here.

  • Trac

    Deep baby. Go deep.

  • Trac

    It’s time.

  • underway

    fuckin Mills

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Fuck mills, are u wearing in red?

  • Trac

    Mills you putz.

  • Shady

    Big play baby!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    YYEEEEESS!!

  • tobijohn

That’s the kind of play that’s been missing this year…

  • Shady

    Finish this O!

  • Jack Lacan

Guess he was writing TD on that slip of paper. Go Bears!!!

  • Trac

Yeah baby. THATS what I’m talking bout.

  • underway

throws like that make you wanna believe in Jay 100% of the time…

    • Trac

      Smart heady play there.

  • tobijohn

I’m in parallel universe. Jay threw one away…

  • Shady

    Nice work.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    TD!!!!

  • Trac

    Woohoo!

  • Trac

    Way to overcome those penalties.

  • Morgan didn’t slide down at the 1!

    • Trac

He can be a good WR. Just needs to get more passes thrown his way.

  • I would give that ball to Mills, sarcastically.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

if Mills doesn´t calm down, Briton will take his place

    • Trac

Is he going up against Osi?

      • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

        I don´t recognize the number…

    • Trac

Briton did kill a nice play with a hold.

      • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Mills has killed 3 at least.

  • Shady

I feel like “Brandon Marshall’s game journal” should be a FF team name.

  • We should play a game. What did Bmarsh write in his journal. Here’s my guess:
“Dear, journal. Today I put bread in the toaster, but it got burnt. Damn wife changed the settings again! Hate when I get that shit all calibrated, then wifey messes up my morning toast.”

    • Shady

“Buttered it like a champion tho.”

    • Jack Lacan

It was the best of times – it was the worst of times…

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

    not a penalty!!!

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

      you are right it wasn´t

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

        i should be a ref.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    what a hit by Mundy

  • Trac

Drop the ball? Get a big time pop.
I love me some drop n pop.

  • FantuzPhysics

    No foul!

  • Shady

    Clearly H2H.

  • underway

we caught a break… way to hit Mundy!!!!! instill fear… FUCK EM…

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    Feel the BEAR!!!!

  • Shady

    No pressure.

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

but secondary is delivering hits at least.

    • Think Tucker is getting very exotic. Blitzing, stunting, faking double A gaps…

      • Shady

Only rushed 4 on that last 3rd and 10. Nice breakup by Jennings.

        • Yeah, he’s mixing it up.
On 3rd and mediums/short he’s dialing it up.
          It’s working so far.
Think the Falcons have only converted 1 3rd down (a 3rd and 2).
Lets see who adjusts better going forward.

  • Trac

    Hold em. Yeah baby.

  • underway

the D is flyin all over the place….

  • Be prepared for a BS makeup call against the Bears

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

    34? for holding

  • D is swarming.
Like I said, they might not know where they’re going, but they’re getting there fast

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

      and hitting

  • RenoBear

Who is this defense and what have you done with the Bears??? These big bad Atlanta receivers are scared shitless and won’t reach for balls!!!

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

or trying not to hurt Conte

  • Maddbearfan

Stupid penalties..got to stop this shit!

  • Jack Lacan

Falcon def backs feel the reaper…

  • Looks like Cutty is in charge of running it today.
If the Falcons are only rushing 4, obvious run
If they look like they’re blitzing, Cutty’s checking it to the flats.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    yees!!

  • Cutty not checking down this game as much.

    • Shady

He’s found Forte on a few. Good plays, keeping the offense in rhythm.

  • Shady

Gotta end the half right this week. End it right.

  • DO NOT FUCK IT UP CUTTY!
We’re already in FG range. If it’s not there, throw it into the stands!
Don’t throw it into the gut of a DT
Don’t throw it into a sitting safety
    Don’t get stripped sacked.

    Por favor.

    • Do NOT throw it before the endzone…

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

hahahaha it seems this time he is focused

    • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

so you don’t have a problem with Trestman’s clock management?

      • Oh, yeah I do. But Trestman didn’t throw it into the gut of a DT, or sitting safety, or 5 yards over a WR in the Pack game, or 1 yard before the endzone with no TOs….

But Trestman’s clock management hasn’t been stellar either.

        • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

whoa bro, where did that come from?

          • I’m keeping mental notes on crucial drives with Cutler. Same as always.
He ended on a high note last year vs Pack.
            This year…not so much.
He’s playing well in this game though.

It’s odd. You can almost tell when he seems, don’t know, jittery, and when he’s calm.

He looks calm in this one…so far.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    well done C.

  • Shady

Dallas isn’t REALLY going into Seattle and pulling an upset, are they?

    • Trac

Don’t rain on my parade shady. I can’t stand the cgirls.

  • Shady

Remember, no timeouts. This play needs to go into or out the back of the endzone.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

it should be a fast play avoing what happend last game.

  • Three commercial breaks in a row.
    Nice.

  • I almost just want to kick a FG here.
Cutler makes me nervous in the red zone.

  • Shady

    Jesus Mills.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    ok. I´ll take 3 here.

  • underway

I think that head bump made Jay a smarter Qb…

  • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Trestman, jesus man, who taught you clock management? Lovie?

    • Shady

Seriously. Not the first time either this year.

    • Tresty seems a little too non-chalant in 2 minute drives.
I know he’s trying to keep an even keel, but some urgency can be beneficial.
He esp likes those dump offs to Forte in 2 minute drills, which kills about 40 seconds for 8 yards.

  • Trac

Murph says there a big Bears crowd at the game. A lot of empty seats though.

  • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Mundy hit will not be fined. WR lowered his head to look down at the ball, Mundy moves his head to the side and contact is incidental. If they fine for incidental then yes he’ll be fined. If they only fine malicious hits he’s all good.

    • Trac

I couldn’t be happier so far today. We pretty much owned the first half.

      • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Keep Forte involved, keep Brandon smiling and hit Alshon when he’s got one on one’s. Look for Marty when they start jumping Forte routes.
Mel needs to keep pressure and not let momentum swing.
        Looking good so far.

      • underway

agreed, ATL will adapt. The second half is always questionable. Seems like we dont adjust. Hopefully today will be different. Really wish we would have gotten 7 that last drive. But as we all knew. As Marshall/Cutty connection goes, so do we.

  • Really impressive first half for Bears. Offense left points on board but defense was intimidating, disciplined and well-coached. – Jeff
Intimidating…Had to look that word up, forgot what it meant.

    • burntorangenavyblue

Just gotta look at MB, then you’ll know what it means….I keed I keed

      • No man who orders karot sticks and mimosas at Buffalo Wings intimdates anyone.
        Bwhaah.
Where are you, MB? With the kids…or poon…mmm, quite

        • burntorangenavyblue

I was wondering same thing because I noticed his absence. Flex schedule screw people up?

        • MB30SD

          Kids.

  • Cormonster

    Who’s this Sharpton guy, # 53?

    • They just upgraded him from the practice squad literally on Fri.
He already looks better than Shea and Bostic put together.

      • Huge Bear’s Penis

+1 so far for emery on that pick up. seems to be always scouring the waivers.

  • Tell you what, if Dallas beats SEA at their house, they’re for cereals.

  • burntorangenavyblue

Happy about the flex schedule…able to watch this game…haven’t done so in awhile because of my new job. However, I wonder how many others today are pissed at the change and have to miss it? Didn’t realize that they do that this early in the season.

  • So. As many of you know, I came into the bar early because I’m a dolt who didn’t check the time of the game. After drinking a Killians and eating a turkey club, I walked over to Washington Square Park to do some work in the sun. As I sat there typing away, I was joined on the bench by Minnie Driver and a friend. I looked over to confirm it was her, but left it at that. If she didn’t make a big deal of sitting next to me, why should I make a big deal of sitting next to her?

Anyway. Some people came over to get a picture with her. After the group finished and walked away, I too got up to leave. Bears game was coming, after all.

She must have thought I left because of the people, because she called out, “I’m sorry for driving you away, sir.”

I wanted to accuse her of making a pun on her own name, but I didn’t. Instead I just smiled, gave her a tip of the stache, and continued on my way.

    • tobijohn

Always had a big crush on her. How’s she looking these days?

      • she looked kind of normal. not hot. not ugly. just like a normal woman. if i didn’t know her from being her, i wouldn’t have given a second glance.

        • tobijohn

OK well then I won’t bother calling her. Next….

          • Did you forget that she’s prob wealthy as shit?
            Suga Moma.

          • tobijohn

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. My chances are actually better if she’s no great shakes…

    • burntorangenavyblue

Haha, cool story man! Love hearing this stuff, shows that you just never know what you might expect in your day

  • Shady

    Good ‘ole sour Carimi.

  • beninnorcal

We have a secret agent working for us on their team wearing #68.

  • Isn’t holding in the endzone a safety?

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

    conte out with concussion

  • Well, at least Conte lasted a half this time.

  • RenoBear

    Conte concussion again… Gotta be

    • If so, it might be career ending, or season ending.

      • RenoBear

Has to be at least season if not career if it is… That dudes head has to be scrambled

  • RenoBear

That poor dude can’t keep his head outta the way. Damn

  • underway

Jared Allen might have lost some of “IT”.

  • Shady

Terrible. 1st and fucking 30 and you give up a TD.

  • underway

Conte angles still on the field tho…

  • 1st and 29…to 3rd and 6.
    Good job, tucker

  • There’s Antone Smith, the guy I said would burn us.

    • Shady

Why does it always have to be about you?

      • There’s other ppl?
Sproles types have always gashed Bears D.
I guess Tucker didn’t get my memo on Smith.
Jeff will say “i told you so” too, in 3, 2, 1..

  • Merica

just take a knee every. Fucking. Kick off.

  • Shady

    Fucking 3 and out.

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

damn nice tackle on hester. i got scared when he had a chance for the return

    • Shady

      They’re playing with fire.

  • High powered O can’t go 3 and out when they need to respond to a long drive

  • underway

huge moment in this game…. cmon D.

  • If we lose this game/season, you can carve the epitaph: 1st and 29.

  • Guest

    Yees!!! Greene TD!!!!

  • Huge Bear’s Penis

    im liking this Sharpton kid

  • underway

here we fuckin go…. gotta snap out of this 2nd half skid

  • Shady

    Blitz not getting home anymore.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    our shaking advantage is cracking

  • Can’t only send 4 on 3rd down, Tucker!
FUCK. You gotta gamble. We’re getting no pressure with just the 4

  • RenoBear

    That was a fuckin fumble!!!!!

  • tobijohn

    Ground Hog Day….

  • Falcons WRs aren’t dropping it. They’re getting crushed.

  • RenoBear

Two feet down with football and turning upfield. Then gets hit and ball comes out. FUMBLE

  • On the bright side, at least we found our future MLB: Sharpton.

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

according to wikipedia he is related to Al Sharpton – LOL

  • burntorangenavyblue

Ugh….like when you get up and eat breakfast…feel fine at first, a little peppy and good. Then you drive into work and a moment later, you’re dreading the turd you gotta get rid of in the nasty bathroom at work, eat well first half, drop a deuce in the second

  • Dang. First time ever I’m rooting for the Cowgirls

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

IDK what is wrong with Mills today.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    YYEEEEEAAAHH!!

  • THERE’S the O!

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

shit!! hope won´t miss that EP

  • RenoBear

WTF SPECIALS????? You piss me off to no end!!!!!!

  • Fuckn Camel needs to get fired mon. Don’t care who else they bring in. Can’t be worse.

    Great way to deflate momentum.

    • RenoBear

      I fucking hate our specials

      • burntorangenavyblue

Well, at least they’re doing the most important thing today….keeping Hester out of the endzone on returns

        • RenoBear

Ha… Yes. I’m still holding my breath every time they kick /punt though

  • burntorangenavyblue

So we got a tied game outcome (cincy vs panthers), 4 TD’s by Flacco in a quarter, and a blocked extra point attempt, what else can happen today?

  • tobijohn

Can’t keep scoring those two play TDs. Not burning enough time off the clock…

    • 2 Play TD or 3 and out. Which do you prefer?

      • tobijohn

Minnie Driver now that I know she has a pile of dough…

        • bringing it back full circle. hakuna matata.

How about SHarpton cracking Roddy White tho?

  • underway

    FULLER TIME!!!!!

    • Shady

      Serisouly. Kid can play.

      • reminds me of a young nathan vasher. which is terrifying.

        • Shady

Vasher was an expert in zone coverage who was a beneficiary of a great front 7. Fuller’s looking like he can man up against anyone.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Sharpton & CJ playing solid today

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    fucking Holmes…. it´s straight!!!

  • FantuzPhysics

We seem to have a ST penalty almost every other time

  • burntorangenavyblue

The returner needs to try some juking moves instead of running sideways, seriously

    • Huge Bear’s Penis

just fair catch… there is going to be a penalty on someone for something stupid

      • burntorangenavyblue

        True dat

  • RenoBear

Damn Fuller is a grown ass man

    • BerwynBomber

At this point he’s arguably our MVP of the season. Not just D MVP but MVP.

  • burntorangenavyblue

Ok, with the availability of the 24/7 sports newscycle, do they really need to cut away to other game highlights and miss the snap of the main game? Seriously? It’s not like the network got paid to cut away like they did

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

    keep runnig!

  • RUN THE BALL!

  • Shady

Nice 3rd down conversion to Bennett!

  • burntorangenavyblue

    • Trac

Ok coach. Lighten up Francis. Lol.

  • Shady

    Keep the chains moving.

    C’mon Cutty.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Bennett don´t give up, what a player..

  • burntorangenavyblue

How does one re-establish themselves back into the play? Is that allowed?

  • OK. An intermediate route, or even check down is acceptable here.

Not sure why Trestman didn’t tack on the yardage at the fair catch. Possession was the most important thing.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

ST is a shame… it is our weakness

Well, Chicago’s fanbase travels extremely well. Plus, it’s a city of what, 10 million people, not including the Chicagoland area (it’d be like 5 more million at least)….a ton of people retire and travel to many of the coastal/southern areas that have pro teams

    KaDeem!

  • BerwynBomber

Gotta hand it to Tucker. Other than the GB game he has the D playing solid. And even the GB game one can chalk up to Rodgers. We may have found something in Sharpton. Fuller looking like a Pro Bowler.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Carey in his best Forte´s personification

  • Trac

Big leg doesn’t help us there.

  • O’Donnell Auto Parts needs to learn how to coffin corner. Maybe he can get some tips from Podlesh on that.

Nice work Demontre Hurst. Excellent technique.

Really impressed with these young D guys, I had written them off…

    • burntorangenavyblue

If we play this well on the road, and get some home wins, I won’t mind too much being a wild card road team if that’s the case if they keep this up

    • These were different guys though Tobi.
Sharpton and Greene weren’t even active in all the other games. And Jones was pretty much just on specials.
This bodes well for our future.

      you off the ledge?

      • Nah. We’re a .500 team.
We basically got the same yardage as the other games, only this time we got them when it mattered and no cutty turnovers.

But I’m not gonna get overly optimistic.

The Falcon’s Oline is rag tag, and they might have the worst D in the NFL.

        But I’ll take it.

        • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

i meant for today. it was touch and go there for a while. you wanted to let loose and be free but i sensed the hesitation in you.

          • MB30SD

It was a weak moment after finding out we didn’t have a single starting lb left

    • Did you miss the game, MB?
HOLY SHITE. Laying wood like a lumber jack
You’re gonna love Sharpton, and I don’t mean Al.

      • MB30SD

I’ve been watching the 7D for the last 2 hrs. Google it.

Murphy said Hurst was good too

        • I think the biggest difference was that Tucker blitz just enough to not expose the secondary. This combined with a rag-tag Falcon’s Oline (starting Carimi at OT for Christ’s sake) made the secondary look better.
However, when given the chance, they all made big hits.
Sharpton laid out White and Toilelo. Both should have been 1st downs.
Mundy crushed someone so hard, the refs were discussing throwing a flag.
Hurst made another bone-crunching hit, and came up with an INT I think
And Fuller might be the best CB in the league right now. Not rookie CB, CB period.

          • MB30SD

            Awesome. Thanks for the summary

          • When you watch the rewind, you’re going to think you got transported to an alternate reality.

          • MB30SD

Fucking bears. Put together a complete game… 15 or 16 times a year damn it.

          • SC Dave

12 is enough, assuming the last four …

          • MB30SD

I’d settle for 10 at this point dave.

          • Trac

Yeah, they’d be just as good as the Cowboys. Yee Haw! Hahaha.

          • CanadaBear

Matty Ice (what a douchebag nickname) is like Stafford. Great stats but get their WR’s killed. After White got lit up the first time he was fucked the rest of the game. Same with that shitty TE. Jones was still balling but he was hearing footsteps too. Once the refs let Mundy’s hit go everyone seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and brought the wood.

    • Trac

I have no idee! You’re on this year my man. Keep it up.

  • Shady

In my best drunken Joe Namath voice:

“Kelly Crull, I wanna kiss you”

  • Trac

This is why I wasn’t torn up last week. Outside of turnovers last week, we should have won that game easily. 5-3? Absolutely.

  • When was the last Bears’ victory by more than 1 score?

    • MB30SD

      Sf?

    • burntorangenavyblue

      Hurts to think

    • SC Dave

Doooooont Caaaaare! Win is a win is a win!

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

Great win baby. Great showing by the D on all three levels. Great game by the O of controlling the clock, not turning it over. And aside from the blocked EP, the specials played well too. Hester got nothing. Our D line is really playing well, young and old alike. Loving Fuller every week. This kid needs a blog nickname in the worst way. I think it’s safe to say that China-doll Conte needs take a seat for a while. If he really is better than Vereen then let him attempt to get healthy. Having him start and not finish every game is counterproductive to both his health and the proper development of the rook.

Great win baby. If only the dolphins could have finished off the fudge.

    • SC Dave

The instant Conte went out, Atlanta scored a TD. Know you, among others, hate that, but its fact

      • I actually thought Conte matched up well, but he always does vs pass happy teams.
It’s when he has to tackle HBs (which ATL had none) that he whiffs.

        • MB30SD

And he can barely finish a half. Like doc said, time to put in someone else and let them develop. Deep end baby

      • Trac

Notice you haven’t received any up votes? But no, I didn’t. Hshaha

      • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

        ??

  • I looked it up. This is only the 3rd Bears victory that they won by more than one score going all the way back to last season.
The previous Bears’ victory by more than one score came last year on Dec 9th vs the Cowboys.

    http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2013/REG/BEARS

So that’s why I felt weird at the end of the game. Rarely can Bears’ fan relax with 4mins in the 4rth.

    • IBNO

Yeah, on Hurst’s INT I went upstairs to give my kids a bath. Felt weird.

Though I was cursing hurst a bit for not just letting the ball hit and gaining 14 yards.

      • Trac

Gotta coach em for the turnovers.

    Suck it Devin.

Mike Smith. Bastardo coached a team that pretty much got lucky at the end of a game and killed our season. Never forgave him for that. Back when Lovie squib kicked and played cover who?

  • SC Dave

Falcons.. 3 pts at halftime. .. did we imagine?

Giant props to Tucker and the defense!

    • MB30SD

      Yes.

      Hee hee

I submit that it is neither an accident nor coincidence that the defensive line was much improved with Jeremiah Ratliff back in the lineup.

    Devin Hester: Non-Factor.

something felt wrong today on the blog. no one was trolling everyone….

  • IBNO

#53 was running around like a madman. A caught a few missed assignments that he had to chase back down, ut all in all, the LB play was much improved, and 53 was the most visible. Who is this guy again?

    • wreckinball

      And all new LBs!

      • IBNO

Not to mention Bostic was out. So you had a rookie, a 2nd-year guy who did not impress last year and was inactive earlier this year, and a guy who wasn’t even on the team a week ago.

        • MikeBrownhadaPosse

          Hungry folks gotta eat!

        • wreckinball

Maybe the depth chart was wrong? Give it a couple of weeks but good result today

        • Trac

See last thread, last post IB

          • IBNO

            Trac, apology accepted.

But I’m going to dig into details, because the devil is there.

You say the WBC isn’t Christian. I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with you. But WBC thinks they’re Christian, and a lot of Christians think they are, too. Same thing with Muslims and ISIS–many Muslims say, “That’s not Islam as we know it.” So the analogy is very apt.

I won’t go further. There are two reasons why I haven’t been around posting on this blog for a while. Reason #1 is that I’ve been overseas, doing work in the Middle East–my academic/professional specialties are international security (terrorism) and the Middle East. Reason #2 is that I’m waiting on a security clearance, and I’ve been told to avoid online message boards, etc., where people espouse opinions (usually misinformed ones, natch) about the Middle East or terrorism. Thus, the first time someone posted something about Islam/terrorism and painted with a broad brush, it behooved me to remove myself and my potential contribution to the conversation.

On that note, I’ve got to remove myself from this one. I have two dream jobs. The first is pretty much out of reach now, as universities are not hiring tenure-track faculty in my field anymore. The second is very close to reality, and I’m not gonna let a football blog create awkward questions in my interviews with the FBI.

So if you’d like to discuss Islam, the Middle East, and/or terrorism further, you’ll be doing it without me.

          • tobijohn

That is incredibly fascinating. Someday if and when it’s appropriate (and safe), I would like to hear all about it…

    • tobijohn

Daryl Sharpton. I know nothing about him. It’s only one game but some guys who you’d never think could, just come alive once the lights go on. Let’s hope he’s one of them…

  • MikeBrownhadaPosse

D-line looked so much better this week. And even though I couldn’t name 2/3 of the defensive backfield at any given time, they were laying suckas out. That was fun to watch!
    Me likey.

    • Scott W.

Yeah, it was weird. I was telling my wife that this is the first game I can remember in years that I had no idea who was playing D. But damn, they played hungry. Helluva performance.

    • Shady

      The Rat is back.

  • Scott W.

Well, I’m disappointed the Pack and Lions won, but hot damn, this felt good today!
Yep, Falcons suck. Minny whipped em, for crying out loud. But can’t underestimate what this game can do for the team overall. Game like this can really get them on track. Lot easier to look forward.

    • AlbertInTucson

You KNEW the Dolphins couldn’t stop Rodgers on that last drive. Their D-Line was gassed. They (wisely) called two timeout to try and get them a breather, all to no avail.

  • Cormonster

Back to my Forte stats. Forte had over 150 total yards today, moving him up to # 82 all time. He passed 6 people today. Earl Campbell, Terry Allen, Andre Rison, Brian Westbrook, Jim Taylor, and Donald Driver. He just got past the two Packers I named at the end.

If Forte keeps the same averages he has now for the rest of the season, he will have over 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving. That’s only been accomplished twice before. Roger Craig in 1985 and Marshall Faulk in 1999.

    • tobijohn

I hope Matt’s paying you something for being his de facto statistician. He really should if he isn’t already….

      • Cormonster

I’ve just been into sports stats since Herman Franks was manager of the Cubs. Seen some interesting stuff when I checked Forte’s stats last week.

        • tobijohn

          I’m just teasing….

          • Cormonster

I know. I just wanted to throw in a Herman Franks reference.

          • CanadaBear

My all-time fave Cubs mgr. The players hated him and he didn’t care. he told the press the truth on a regular basis. His rant at the end right before he got fired was classic. He said if he ever had to look at that whiny-ass Mike Vail again he’d puke. Too funny.

    • Scott W.

Wish there was a way to measure the intangible he brings…as a pass catcher, defenses have to constantly be shifting for him, leaving Marshall, Bennett, Jeffrey, etc. with a much different scheme to face.

    • wreckinball

Forte killed me in FF today but I’m ok with it

      • Better than Flacco and Co.

        • wreckinball

Yes much better have unicorn on my team but not much from him today

          • AlbertInTucson

1 drop but a NICE catch right up the seam on a 3rd & long.

    • Both are comparable to Forte.
Surprised Westbrook never had 1,000/1,000. He was pretty productive in his prime.
Kinda like the 40/40 club in baseball.

    • CanadaBear

I posted a few minutes ago that Matt’s 9-yard TD was the happiest I’ve been this year.

  • Trac

Sax artists today(see how I did that Canada)

    Willie Young (2)
    Pea-eye-ya (1)
    Allen (1)

    • Will Young is the offseason pickup of the year. He was always around the ball.
If he becomes more consistent, watch out.

      • tobijohn

        Yup, he’s the FA sleeper…

        • Big Mike

Will Sutton got a paw on Matty’s last attempt to end all the suspense.

  • Stat of the day.
2-4 teams historically have an 8% chance to make playoffs.
    It was a huge win.

    • EnderWiggin

      Stat of the day.
Rody White got blowed the fuck up – repeatedly.

      • Just like you in FF! Bwhaaha
GPs currently leading the 005 Bowl!

        • EnderWiggin

          Man. I’m averaging over 100 points a game… 0-6. Brutal.

          • But the avg for that league is probably closer to 130.
Avg win in standard is about 90.
Add about 15 with another QB. That’s 105
            Than a punter. That’s about 110
Then bonuses for long runs, receptions, etc = 125-30.

So you gotta figure you must score at least 125-30 to be competitive, most likely 140, with occasional outliers of 160+.

You’ve just been plagued with HB injuries, and AP didn’t exactly help your auction draft.

          • EnderWiggin

You know, if I would have accepted the trade you offered week 1- I may have won a couple…

A beautiful character win My oldest “kid” was there. Called it Soldier Field South . Wish I went with him. I’m going to write “Confessions of a Senior Drama Queen” but won’t post it for a week or more . Glad we all enjoyed a great game today. BEAR DOWN!

    • tobijohn

You were conspicuous by your absence today…

    • Trac

Yes. A team can build off a solid win like today. Great victory on the road today. Murph was at the game and was laughing his ass off when some Atlanta fans told him this was their first game they’ve been too at soldier field. Hahahaha

    • Cormonster

Man, I think your asking for trouble if you post that “column” before the bye week. If your going to write that, best to save it for the off week.

      • BillW

Good point May not at all Too much to say and too hard to say it.

Going to the game next week with one of my “kids”. This one is over 30. Looking forward to it. Never get tired of being there. Been going about 50 years now. Plus nearly 40 years as a season ticket holder. From Halas to Trestman.

Too bad in all that time I only obtained limited football knowledge

Don’t recall who wrote the well received post against me but it made me reflect. A lot of points that I get from the regulars point of view.

Made me understand better but not the time or place.

I like being around bear fans. This is the only “bar” I can find. Great analogy.

I’d say they played with heart today, no?

      • BillW

        Absolutely A beautiful thing indeed!

  • Too early. RT @fordlinstrum: @dabearsblog defence really stood up today. Kyle Fuller best first round pick since Urlacher? – jeff

Let’s not crown his ass yet. Two words: MARK CARRIER.

    • Scott W.

Kyle Long may not be getting a lot of highlight reel time, and never will, but let’s none of us forget the difference he’s made on that O-line.

  • BillW

Manning sacked 7 times in a bit more than a quarter. How about 10 or more in the first half?

    • BillW

Wrong. Thought I heard the announcers say that

  • What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Why don’t broadcasters refer to Eli tonight as “Bad Eli”? like “Bad Jay”?
Two SB rings aren’t playing tonight.

    • wreckinball

His last name they are NFL royalty

    • BerwynBomber

The subject of your last sentence answers your question.

  • Big Mike

    Winning is better

    • Scott W.

Winning the way we won – regardless of the opponent’s well documented weaknesses – is what rekindles hope in a hurry.

      • Donnnnn’t Caaaaarrrrrre!

Scott, the Falcons just like the Saints win a lot of games at home. Any team that can go in there and win means they played a great game.

        • Scott W.

Yeah it does. No takeaways here from the win at ATL, because it takes a hell of an effort to win like that by exploiting the Falcons’ weaknesses.
In the same breath, we made the much feared receivers/backs look pedestrian. Julio who? So I get it.

      • Big Mike

Amen. On the road. Strong defensive scheme, fighting 5 starters out on D

This is a watch out… Fuck you victory.

Need to follow up with a victory over Miami at home

        • Scott W.

A big win at home, regardless of the opponent, would really throw some gas on the fire.
I wonder if this wasn’t the first game since game 1 that Marshall felt 100%, too.

          • Big Mike

Seems like it, from everything I read and saw watching the game. Marshall had a burst off the line yesterday and yards after catch were also up significantly.

  • Congrats, Bears. First franchise to reach 750 wins.
Would have been sweeter vs the pack at home, but hey, golf clap all around.

  • Trac

Who is this Bears team? Our guys were looking at the Patriots for inspiration today. I heard one of the players talk about it last week. These guys reached down and pulled out a victory that could very well have meant the season. So who are the Bears? They’re a team that very well could be 5-1, that’s who. I haven’t felt as good as I do about this team all year, even after the niners game because today, the Bears played their most complete game of the season and guess what, they have a lot of room for improvement.

    • wreckinball

Pats did right the ship and have backed it up

Bears need to do the same next week

  • tobijohn

Just picked this tidbit up from one of Moon Mullin’s pieces:
“…the defense, working without any of the top four linebackers on its depth chart because of injury, held the No. 3 yardage and scoring offense in the NFL to 13 points (vs. its normal 30) and 287 yards (vs. the 435 average).”

    • wreckinball

      Maybe the top 4 weren’t

May be discovering the depth chart was wrong

    • AlbertInTucson

      On their home field.

  • MB30SD

    How did c.jones do?

    • For the most part, Jones and Greene seemed invisible, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They seemed to fill their gaps and make their tackles. Didn’t look completely lost or commit any gross errors. Would have to look over the tape to make sure.
Sharpton on the other hand seemed omnipresent.

Two things to keep in mind though.
      1. Falcon’s Oline is in shambles and wasn’t exactly getting to the 2nd level.
      2. Falcon’s don’t have a true feature HB.

So the LBs mostly played a one dimensional game (vs pass).

Only big fuck up was the long swing pass TD by HB Antone Smith, but don’t know who that was on. Might have been in zone, though I think Sharpton (#53) was closest.

      • Scharfinator

Antone is known for hitting homeruns in his games. Doesn’t play a ton of snaps but has 7 30 + yd TD’s so far.

        • Well, Jeff and I (and a few others) warned about him earlier this week , but as they say, speed kills.
Smith really is on an unbelievable run. He’s avg like 16 yds per touch, and 1 TD per game even though he only touches it 4 times a game. That’s nuts.
Even crazier is that the Falcons still rather roll out old man Steven Jax and those other schmucks.

          • CanadaBear

They had a hat on everyone on that side and he came around the corner at full fucking speed. He was flying. We probably fucked up but it was a great call.

      • MB30SD

thanks. look at you. Captn. recap today… appreciate it my maings.

        • You can just send your Rewind $ to me.
I imagine your checks have kittens with boobs in the background.

          • MB30SD

            other way around

  • wreckinball

Great win stunned the shit out of me

So did the SF game. Lets string a few together

  • Zach Bowman siting!

  • wreckinball

    Bowman!

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

The Cowboys have the best record in the NFL and just beat the world champs at home. The Cowboys.

    • They’ll be dangerous until the annual DeMarco Murray inj, then they’ll go back to relying on Romo, and we all know how that ends.

      • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

I hope so. And I’m sick of hearing the talking heads say that when the cowboys are good, it’s good for the NFL. What about the NFLs flagship franchise, dicks?!

        • Their vags get wet when discussing the Pack, 9ers or Cowboys.
Apparently, they’re still trapped in the 90s goat-tees and burkingstocks.

          • MB30SD

            seriously. brutal.

    • AlbertInTucson

While I can’t root for the Cowboys, I am enjoying the fact that it is ANOTHER shining example that the so-called insiders, especially at the 4-Letter, really do not know much, if anything, more about the NFL than most of the rest of us.

  • RenoBear

This Giants game is fuckin brutal. Eli is such a turd… And it doesn’t help that the Giants can’t get a call to save their lives. I mean seriously Eagles have one penalty for 5 yards??? Home cookin there…

    • AlbertInTucson

Giants thought it was Thursday. night.

  • RenoBear

Ahhhhh I’m just bent that I needed the Giants to lose by 9pts or less and I would’ve cashed $120 off of ten bucks. Fuckers

    • MB30SD

never bet money on eli… either way.

      (I guess same for cutty)

  • BerwynBomber

Our D has been the best surprise this year. Even last week they played well. 10 of Carolina points came off TOs, another 7 from a freak punt return and our D provided our O three TOs themselves. Thus far, the D’s only stinker was GB and some of that can be attributable to Rodgers going HoF on us. Otherwise, the D has acquitted itself well. Thus far Tucker is doing a decent job (in season 2). Outstanding game from Jay today too.

  • BerwynBomber

“Kyle Fuller best first round pick since Urlacher?”
Maybe. He is looking like a Pro Bowler and is arguably our team MVP after six games. Him or Forte, I’d say.

    • CanadaBear

Too early but man he looks good!

      • BerwynBomber

He does. Even Peanut didn’t look this good so early. Peanut had stretches of inconsistency in her early years in terms of pure cover. Fuller, OTH, seems to blanket his dude every freaking play. Btw, I realize Peanut was drafted in a later round; just comparing Fuller to our best CB ever.

    • AlbertInTucson

Proabaly, but considering the crop includes Gabe Carimi and Chris Williams, it’s almost a left-handed compliment.

  • Bender McLugh

Sharpton needs to play every game

    • and opposing receivers need to keep dropping 6 passes a game.

      • BillW

Jiggs credited the d for intimidating the receivers into losing concentration. That’s what I saw. Plus did you all notice how they picked up EVERY ball on the ground today! I have to say this was a very solid coaching job from top to bottom

        • AlbertInTucson

I agree, Falcon receivers were hearing footsteps, especially after Mundy lit up Roddy White which I counted as payback for Cutler being pancaked on a play being blown dead.

        • AlbertInTucson

Jiggs needs to get serious about losing a pound or 50 before he explodes right on the air.

          • CanadaBear

I remember seeing him on the field when I went to the game. He was huge then. Biggest guy on the field by a lot.

      • 4 of those were the receivers getting crushed.

        • IBNO

The TE was getting alligator arms after the first hit.

      • CanadaBear

That crappy TE dropped 3. He was hearing foot steps for sure. Actually all of them were. Hopefully the Bears will get some refs that will let them play like that. Really happy.

        • AlbertInTucson

          Somewhere, Tony Gonzalez was cringing.

    • CanadaBear

He over ran as many plays as he made. He was around the ball all day. Of course, he hit Conte in the shoulder and nevermind, you know the rest.

      • IBNO

Yeah, 53 was all over the place. Sure, he overran the play quite a bit–but more than once, he chased it down. 53 is fast–saw him dropping deep middle several times, and he looked as comfortable in coverage as he did hitting the gap.

The LBs, by and large, played violently. This is good. Maybe it reminds Briggs & Williams how to play with abandon.

  • AlbertInTucson

I have to think Ratiff providing his presence inside helped the new linebacking corps.

    • Big Mike

He was a force. A good d-line fixes a lot. The young’uns played fast, played hard, like guys trying to prove something (oh wait)..

  • AlbertInTucson

Nice to see Gabe Carimi hasn’t lost his touch.

  • AlbertInTucson

Jake Matthews was getting pushed around by Jared Allen.

    • Big Mike

Only at the end, when they were down 14 and had to throw. Rookie did well. He’s a player. Nice to see Jared Allen make an impact today.

  • AlbertInTucson

    Today’s game caption…

    Matty: Iced.

  • AlbertInTucson

And now, a word from our sponsor…

Da Dears go into the Georgia Dome…

Getting a MUCH needed win was nice.

And right there in the Falcons’ home…

They put the heat on Matty Ice.

    Burma-Shave.

  • AlbertInTucson

Sharpton? Hurst? Talk about needing a scorecard.

  • CanadaBear

I’ve only read a few posts but just had to say that TD up the gut from the 9 was the happiest I’ve been this season. Loved that call.

    • AlbertInTucson

Those calls are great – when they work. In his post game presser, Trestman as much as said he was willing to take the 3 if it did NOT work but that Jay had the option to audible to the pass if he saw blitz.

Credit to Cutler who saw the defense the staff expected and ran what they called.

    • Big Mike

Mine as well. Plus it was a trap, or x block couldn’t quite tell. Garza had a crushing block at the point of attack and Slauson was a road grader..

  • AlbertInTucson

Once again, Bear fans were WELL represented on the road.

    • BerwynBomber

No surprise there. All the Chicago teams’ fans travel exceptionally well save the Sox.

      • EnderWiggin

Matt Ryan was sure as shit surprised when he had to take a time out.because of noise.

        • Big Mike

My favorite thing of the season…

  • AlbertInTucson

Hoping that today’s effort puts a charge into Jared Allen.

    • BerwynBomber

We’ll see. Love the D’s effort — actually I’ve liked it all season — but Atlanta’s O-line is in shambles and Allen was playing on carpet.

  • AlbertInTucson

Smart play by Rodgers but I don’t think a “Fake Spike” should be allowed.

The spike was created/intended as an exception to the grounding rule to stop the clock.
QB’s shouldn’t be allowed to stretch it into anything more than that.

    • IBNO

Didn’t the NFL make it illegal after Warner did it? It’s a 5-yard illegal procedure or something like that.

  • BerwynBomber

So is Sharpton “The Reverend”? Somebody tweeted that the Gabe Carimi pick finally paid off for us today.

    • CanadaBear

The Reverend is Jeff’s buddy that does the rant at the end of the week.

  • MB30SD

    shady. 31-22-22

  • AlbertInTucson

    Oh, BTW,

Cutler’s pass to Jeffrey traveled 55 yards in the air.

From the Bear 12 to the Falcon 28.

  • Rich Campbell @Rich_Campbell
Bears’ gameplan for stopping Devin Hester was contain the wide side of the field, players said. They knew he loves to run wide.
