Bills at Bears Opening Day Game Thread

| September 7th, 2014

bears bills

Five Final Thoughts

1. If the Bears manage a push from the interior of their offensive line they could be looking at an even more productive offensive outing. Success in the run game early will open up the whole of the play book.

2. If Bears commit more than four to the rush look out for E.J. Manuel hitting Scott Chandler quickly over the middle. This is still an area of the field where the Bears are susceptible to attack.

3. With the strength of the Bills offensive line being Cordy Glenn at left tackle, look for Lamarr Houston to make a greater impact today than Jared Allen.

4. There are only two ways to limit Sammy Watkins damage: tackling and pass rush. Tackling contains him in the screen game. Pass rush restricts his ability to do damage over the top.

5. Remember, no style points in September. I predicted the final score to be 31-16. 3-2 would be just as acceptable. September and October are about one thing in the NFL: stockpiling wins.

As always you can follow my (sporadic at best) in-game commentary on Twitter by following me @DaBearsBlog.

Cutty drops back in the pocket, the line holds, he throws………..he scores……..TOUCHDOWN…… Deep dish wins, deep dish wins, deep dish wins, deep dish wins!

Get outta bed you lazy bastards, it’s game day!

    • FQD1911

Trac – still see you are the same (in a good way lol). BEAR DOWN!!!!

  • FQD1911

Bear Down!!! Let’s start 2014 right!!!!

  • johnnywad

Chili in the crock pot already combined and beginning to warm. Bears mug in the freezer, stuffed in the ice maker in fact, icing itself down to the proper game time temperature. Off to the store soon for fresh cheese, sour cream, and Bell’s Two Hearted IPA to keep the mug company. New Bose sound system connected to new 60″ TV and working properly so as to hear all bone jarring hits from every corner of the basement in unison. Beers to commence at 11:00 a.m. CT. Perfectly timed so as to be buzzing along in the middle of the second half and slightly belligerent as the clock expires un the fourth. Then out to mow the lawn moderately drunk and listen to Doug and OB on the post game show with belly full of chili and beer, and a giant shit eating grin at the prospect of our first place Bears. My neighbor three doors down is a Packers fan. He can see me mowing from his deck. He gets a giant “fuck you” middle finger the second he steps outside. I love this day.

    • Big Mike

Perfect day. I’ve come to the conclusion that I like the late start game, just so I don’t have to do anything after.

      • johnnywad

I like the early kickoff. Bears Football the way God intended Man to consume it. Mowing after is really just sitting by myself on a tractor allowing my body to process the beer.

        • Big Mike

Well, since it involves a tractor…..

        • CanadaBear

Now that I live on the West coast I’m looking forward to the games starting at 10. I’m a morning person so let’s get busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big Mike

Is it right that a 53 year old man could not sleep the night before a game he is going to watch on television?

    • CanadaBear

I used to be that way about the opening day of pheasant season in Iowa. By the time I was in my 20’s I got over that. Still miss pheasant hunting (and eating those tasty birds). Can’t wait for kickoff!

      • Big Mike

Yeah but you were a participant. Not just a “watcher”. It never fails to surprise me, how worked up I get about the Bears’ opener

        • CanadaBear

No doubt. I still get excited too but not many things keep me awake these days. I’m hoping for a huge surprise on D and we don’t suck. I think our ST’s will be OK at some point this season but I’m really afraid they will cost us at least one game.

        • Cormonster

I’m the same way. I stayed up until 3AM watching The Longest Day just so I wouldn’t be up really early anticipating the game.

    • johnnywad

I woke up at 5:00 a.m. ready to go

      • Big Mike

I’m pacing my house. Did a bunch of silly chores, got out the Bears gear for my basement for some reason my wife doesn’t like me to leave my autographed cards, hats, footballs and helmets our in the offseason…

  • MB30SD

sick like a fucking dog and ended up getting my kids. Scheduling screw up.

The kids are watching PBS Kids, the’res laundry in the washing machine, my house looks like a tornado hit it already, I’ll probably get to watch some of the game at naptime… unless I’m passed out too cause I didn’t sleep at all last night from being so suck.

Enjoy it for me brothers (bastards). BEAR DOWN!

    • Trac

      Lovie-ly!

  • For your consideration….

Gave my tickets up for a cousin having a tough year. He needs to have a day for himself.

It’s going to be a memorable year boys.

Grill fired up, beers iced down, Trade Wind gently flowing, wife going to church with 4yr old daughter, son 3 yr old wearing Cutler jersey throwing himself headlong into the couch like Walter at the goal line. Crew showing up with wings and drinks in 30 minutes.

    12-4

    • Barb UMihai Mar

I could never do that. Watch sports when emotionally involved with lots of people around. Especially if you’re the one entertaining. Hell no. It does sound like lots fun if you are into all that.

      • For your consideration….

i hear you but these guys are as crazy as i am about the Bears. everyone knows they are on their own, i don’t entertain when people come over, hard drinks are drunk, wings are obliterated and curses are thrown around at the screen and each other.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

Again… it sound like a lot of fun. It wasn’t a criticism or anything like that. I liked you post and wanted to express my games ritual. I watch NFL with my brother and/or alone. Beer yes, food no.

  • Barb UMihai Mar

Sammy Watkins is a rookie without one snap in the NFL. I’d never use ‘limit damage’ about a player in this position. I’d put his over/under at 45 yards on the night. I’m more concerned with Woods. It will be interesting to see the match-ups though. Will they match rookie on rookie with Fuller on Watkins on shut him down with Tillman and leave Fuller against the savvy Williams.

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

    BEAR DOWN, BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Barb UMihai Mar

From the time the Patriots set their initial 53-man roster Aug. 30, and their 10-man practice squad two days later, the team has made a total of 20 transactions. That is an eye-opening number in less than a week, with 10 directly involving the 53-man roster and the other 10 on the practice squad.

    Belichick is top class.

PS: In 2013, the Patriots had 65 different players dress for at least one game.

    • Big Mike

      Fuck the patriots. Go Bears

      • Barb UMihai Mar

The enthusiasm can only get you so far, you know ? My point is… how can the team with the 2nd best roster depth in the NFL make so many moves to improve and a team like the Bears stay put ? Shouldn’t it be the other way around ?

        • For your consideration….

we made a shit ton of roster moves this year and haven’t played a game yet.

          • Barb UMihai Mar

How come ? The only change in the first 53 man roster was the new LS and Hayden instead of Wilson after the IR.

  • Cormonster

CB Stephon Gilmore is out for the game (groin). Corey Graham might be starting in his place. Big blow to the Bills. Our receivers should scorch them today.

    • Barb UMihai Mar

Does that mean that Nickell Robey will get Graham’s spot on the -you know- nickel units ? Childish jokes aside it’s a huge advantage for the Bears WR corp. It was highly predictable though… Gilmore’s absence. He was on the wrong side on ‘questionable’ from the start and groin injuries are killers.

      • Cormonster

That’s what some Bills website thinks will happen.

        • Barb UMihai Mar

it’s in his destiny… play that card.

    • For your consideration….

that news deserves my first Trade Wind/Coke of the day.

      #12-4

  • DocNitty(BallsStillOrnamental)

I need a link fellas! Help a brother out!

  • Barb UMihai Mar

    Inactive players:
QB David Fales, CB Kelvin Hayden, FB Tony Fiammetta, LB Khaseem Greene, OL Charles Leno Jr.,
DE David Bass, DE Cornelius Washington

RB Bryce Brown, T Cyrus Kouandjio, DB Jonathan Meeks, G Cyril Richardson, DE Jacquies Smith, TE Lee Smith

  • GPLDAN

I dropped EJ Manuel from my FF team, added Kyle Orton and started him because Newton is out.

That’s how sure I am he plays the 2nd half. 🙂

  • Shady

Kenny, Moose and Goose on the call today… Oh joy.

  • tobijohn

Guess I’ll be getting my highlights here today. Neither the pirate NFL feed nor the radio broadcast linked off the Bears site work…

    • Shady

Perfect ball to the corner for ALSHON JEFFREY.

    • tobijohn

OK, it looks like the pirate links are working now…

    • NewBearInTown

780 WBBM has a stream on their website. They cover all Bears games.

      • tobijohn

That’s where the link on the Bears site goes but there’s no sound. I’ll try it directly through the WBBM site, thanks…

      • tobijohn

Nope, they link to radio.com and nothing happens using either Firefox or the latest MSIE…

  • Shady

    THE BLACK UNI! wide open.

  • Shady

Can we just give Cutler the MVP award now?

    • Shady

Great protection on that drive. If Cutler has this kind of time all day today, he’ll put up 400 yards and 5 TDs.

    • SC Dave

      No

  • Big Mike

    Fear Boners

  • Shady

If Jennings gets his head around a sec earlier that ball is going the other way.

  • Shady

Briggs looks old and slow… And just got laid out after that EJ Manuel scamper.

  • Shady

    That’s the defense I remember.

  • DaMurph

    Mel Tucker showing his best!

    • Shady

How do you not spy the QB on the goalline?

  • SC Dave

Dont know what allen was thinking on that td run… waaaaay too easy

    • johnnywad

      Zero contain.

  • SC Dave

    I miss Toub

  • GPLDAN

They are gonna pick on the safeties

  • Shady

The flea flicker! Didn’t work, but love it anyway.

  • Shady

Jordan Mills just got owned by Mario.

    • GPLDAN

mills has no shot against Mario

      • Shady

Seriously, how do they not give help there?

    • SC Dave

Hes not the first to get beat by mario

  • Shady

Jared Allen looks about as productive as Peppers did last year.

    • GPLDAN

      Allen on grass is nothing

      • GPLDAN

        young however has a motor

    • Shady

Just got PANCAKED on a stunt to the inside.

  • SC Dave

    Jennings owned again

    • Shady

That was Fuller, Jennings was playing nickle.

      • SC Dave

        Ok… too far from tv

      • SC Dave

Maybe he sensed my dis… nice tackle there

      • SC Dave

Two stops… we had whole games last year when that didnt happen

  • DaMurph

Pass Rush, Pass Rush……….calling a Pass Rush

  • Trac

Like I said last week, our D has a knack of making struggling QB ‘s look like pro bowlers. It’s gonna be a roller coaster ride boys.

  • NewBearInTown

Early days yet, but so far its concerning that the Bills are running it so well. We need to more from the back seven against the run. But the rookies are contributing, so that’s a good sign.

    • Shady

Outside of the EJ Manuel runs, hasn’t looked too bad… So far.

  • Paul Stuart

    niiiiice run

  • Trac

Jags all over the iggles 14-0. Don’t laugh, the Jags are a good team.

  • alright, a little hung over from the party last night. But Cutty looks in charge.

  • Shady

Please tell me he was down…

    • Shady

      Not even close. Damn.

      • Shady

Let’s not lose sight of the fact Garza was also called for holding on the play.

    • DaMurph

      nope

  • Paul Stuart

    mundy finishing off well

    • Paul Stuart

spoke too soon, but I’ll take that loss of yards

  • Johhny nickednamed Young Predator. That fool’s a BEAST.

  • Shady

Danny McCray Cray replaced Conte already?

  • johnnywad

The Allen/Peppers sweepstakes looks like a wash at this point. Loving me some Willie Young though

  • Shady

    F’ing Mulligan.

  • RenoBear

    Weak ass OPI call

  • Shady

    Martysaurus looks fast.

  • Shady

Matt Slauson having his leg examined. James Brown got cut and de La Puente is inactive, so who do they throw in there?

    • Shady

      Olga.

  • Shady

    Fuck, shits falling apart.

  • SC Dave

Looks lime the old bears… defense trying tohold up a shit offense

  • What is up with Bennett? Shit.

    • Shady

      Looked great until he didn’t.

    • Paul Stuart

there’s a few now who kinda need to wake the fuck up. unexpected breakdowns

  • GPLDAN

    Train off da rails

  • We’re letting the Bills win the only way they can, by fucking ourselves.

    • johnnywad

Bears will win this game by a comfortable margin

  • SC Dave

Ten points for bjffalo thanls to the offense. They better score 30more to make up for it

  • RenoBear

Oh boy… We got a lot of work to do… Both in this game and in this season

  • Shady

Goose and Moose are right, the flea flicker is why the Bears are losing this game. smh

  • Paul Stuart

nice turn jay, we’ll take it

  • 3rd and 1, we go trips, pass.
    Get used to it.

  • Shady

    Ugh.

    • SC Dave

      Not on one page

      • Shady

        Super Bowl here we come.

  • DaMurph

We looked good first drive, now, not so good!

  • This is what happens when you rely on the pass to set up the run.

  • SC Dave

    Back foot jay…

  • GPLDAN

The team is soft like Trestman

  • RenoBear

Let’s get this ball back before half

  • Drop kick Punter?

  • RenoBear

    Fuck man

  • Shady

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

  • Shady

    Conte.

  • GPLDAN

    Nice angle Conte

  • Run D still the same

  • SC Dave

To save cheesy the trouble, the bears still suck

    • Shady

      Oh fuck you.

  • Paul Stuart

isn’t this supposed to happen only AFTER shit loads of injuries. shit.

  • GPLDAN

    Garza out?

  • SC Dave

One fucking run play so far for Buffalo

  • RenoBear

Fuck these Bills man. The Bears will fuck em up after the half.

    • johnnywad

      Yep. Touchdown before the half

      • Shady

        Just take a knee.

        • johnnywad

          I want a TD dammit

        • johnnywad

          K. Fine.

  • unnecassary roughness on an offensive player? WTF?

  • RenoBear

By the way… All you negative haters out there… Why do you bother watching the games?

  • SC Dave

Defense has far outplayed the o… right now.this one is on cutler and company

    • Shady

We get it, you hate Jay.

      • SC Dave

No,, it is merely the reality of this game. So far

    • SC Dave

      But they WILL do it

  • Both of these teams suck moose wang. We gotta clean up those little things.

  • GPLDAN

Go max protect and deep throw

    • SC Dave

      Yup!!!

    • GPLDAN

Instead a hand off. Fuck you Trestman

      • Paul Stuart

        yeaaap

    • SC Dave

      Or not

  • Shady

Fucking fans, Yonny should have gone and poured beer on these d-bags.

  • Hey, now we run! Yay. only 40 secs left

  • SC Dave

Unlike before, this coaching staff can adjust.

    • Paul Stuart

I’m relying on the same optimism

  • GPLDAN

Slauson will be back 2nd half. They may want to bench Mills and put Ola out there at rt

    • Maybe Mills is still not healthy.

      • NewBearInTown

Mills is a serviceable, but unspectacular right tackle currently guarding one of the better pass rushes in the league. He’s just not up to the task. The foot might not be helping, but he was never first rate in protection last year either. He’s not a liability, but they need to help him out over there.

      • SC Dave

Or maybe, he’s. A seventh round second year guy against a number 1 pick pro bowler

  • Can’t even beat the Bills. at HOME. Nice.

    • SC Dave

      We still have 30 minutes

      • We should be DOMINATING this team.

        • NewBearInTown

We didn’t come in ready. Mistakes all over, bad game plan, generally unimpressive.
But that’s not uncommon week 1. We need to adjust (which we are good at) and come out after the half in much better form.
Nothing changes from what everybody saw yesterday. This team can drop 21+ points on the Bills this half. If we cut out the turnover, the Bills will not keep up.

        • johnnywad

You have a BMarsh fumble and a Jay/Bennett pick that should have been a first down. Bills are in front on two plays. Bears will grind them down this half. No reason to worry yet

  • GPLDAN

    Man Vikes are tough

  • Shady

Gonna be a huge opening series coming out of the half.

  • GPLDAN

I guess Orton stays on the bench

  • GPLDAN

    David Bass should replace Allen

  • GPLDAN

    Garza and Slauson both out

  • GPLDAN

    Jeffery cramped

    • Shady

      Hope it’s just cramps…

  • RenoBear

    That was fucking awesome

  • GPLDAN

    PI awesome

  • Shady

    NEED to finish this drive,

    • GPLDAN

      Nope

    • Shady

FG attempts aren’t going to cut it.

      • SC Dave

        Depends on how many

  • RenoBear

Spurlock has to catch the lasers

    • Shady

And Forte needs to catch balls placed perfectly over his shoulder into his hands.

  • SC Dave

    My man robbie

  • Finally. Something good.

  • SC Dave

Nice play by jay saving that drive with the shovel to uni

    • Shady

      That must have hurt.

      • RenoBear

        Hahaha

      • SC Dave

I calls em likes i sees em

  • Is a turnover too much too ask from our D?

    • Shady

      No.

      • Shady

        And there it is.

  • NewBearInTown

So those who are watching on TV, where’s Santonio Holmes. Is he getting snaps?

    • SC Dave

      A handful

    • Shady

Caught a 3rd down pass for a first. Not much else so far.

  • RenoBear

Seriously, time for the defense to get a turnover and really show something. I understand they’ve been but in bad spots today but let’s see a three and out or a turnover

  • NewBearInTown

Down a touchdown this early in the third quarter is an okay place to be. But we need to stop the run (and the QB option) here.

  • Shady

    No pass rush.

    • GPLDAN

      Watching Shae blitz is sad

  • Shady

    CONTE!!!!! muahahahaahahhahaha

  • bearsfantillend

    Fuck Yeah Conte

  • Trac

This game ain’t outta hand yet by a longshot but we sorely need a turnover.

  • SC Dave

    Yeah, that fucking conte

  • Cooooonteeee

  • The Bird Man is back! Damn, that must feel good.

  • Shady

Really need to capitalize on this.

  • Paul Stuart

well look who turned up then

  • NewBearInTown

Here’s where Conte turns to the fans and starts blowing kisses to all the haters from this off-season.

  • Trac

Yeah baby! That’s what I’m talking about.

  • SC Dave

    Make it happen, jay!

    • SC Dave

      Just like THAT!!

  • Shady

    Morgan done. Knee.

  • Bills are just giving up that flat to Forte. All day, baby.

  • bearsfantillend

    theres that gym shorts discipline.

  • Shady

BEAST! Has at least a foot on the Bills DB.

    #Liketakingcandyfromababy

  • Bear down, chicago Bears! Joy of Illinois!

  • This is where the Bills need to fall apart according to my program.

  • SC Dave

    Just like effin that, Jay!!

  • Trac

Turnover time from here on out. Time to put our foot on emanuals neck.

  • RenoBear

    Booooooooooooooyyyyyaaaahhhhhhhh!

  • RenoBear

Here comes a 3 and out or another turnover. Manuel is escared

    • NewBearInTown

Spiller’s not scared. He’ll keep E.J. in this game.

  • GPLDAN

    There is Suttons motor

  • SC Dave

Now its time for cd or bostic

  • Paul Stuart

bit of confidence now guys. nice score. defense just get the pressure in the right place…

  • Shady

DBs making tackles on the RBs, not good.

  • There’s that Blitz, GP

  • Paul Stuart

    Better, better

  • SC Dave

Do it again, jay & co!!

  • Shady

Marshall bent awkwardly on that catch/fumble.

  • Paul Stuart

not good, he may have had that too

  • Smart Trest. Like wearing a hat.

    • johnnywad

      Nice

  • SC Dave

Hope that right knee is ok

  • Paul Stuart

good effort after he was bent..like the athlete in animatrix

  • johnnywad

Marshall is built from something better than human flesh and bone

  • RenoBear

Fuckin Corey graham could’ve ended Marshall’s season the way he twisted him down. Fucker

    • Shady

Not to mention Spikes got a head shot in on him too.

      • RenoBear

        Yep. Fuck buffalo

    • SC Dave

Fshit… id tackle someone 70 pounds heavier however i could

  • RenoBear

    Nice work BMarsh

  • SC Dave

Make it fucking happen again, Jay!!!

  • Paul Stuart

loving his grinning like that, after that tangle. let’s get rolling

  • RenoBear

Oh BTW…. Marrone looks like a milquetoast HC who prob isn’t especially good at ANYTHING. Overmatched

  • RenoBear

Trestman may LOOK like a milquetoast HC, but we know better than that

  • Shady

    Marshall still gimpy.

  • SC Dave

Guess the knee was no good

  • NewBearInTown

Need to see the Bills limited to a field goal on this drive. Put the Bears in position to score and go up 4.

  • Shady

Not impressed with Jared Allen taking himself out of plays.

    • I thought they were rotating a lot. Taking himself out? WTF

      • Shady

Taking himself out of the play, not the game.

    • Trac

Life’s a little different without the Williams wall. He prolly won’t get in a grove until he becomes more familiar with the players around him.

  • NewBearInTown

Some weird scores going on around the league. Any given Sunday I guess, Week 1 especially.

  • This is where the Bears’ O fulfills their destiny.

  • GPLDAN

Start on the 5. No Marshall no Jeffery

    • Shady

      Ride Forte like a pony.

      • GPLDAN

        Or Bennett

        • Shady

          Like a black unicorn.

  • For your consideration….

wow, did we just lose Marshall, Jeffery, Slauson and Garza in the same fucking game? awesome.

    • NewBearInTown

Fortunately, looks like there aren’t any serious injuries. No sure about next week, but the season is safe.

    • johnnywad

DLP looks fine in place of Garza

  • GPLDAN

bills want this, they are hitting

  • SC Dave

Fucking bar lost the satellite from some weather shit. I would hate the pick 6 winner

  • tobijohn

Still can’t get that small stuff..

  • SC Dave

Every game on except the only one that matters

  • GPLDAN

    Awful Pic

  • Shady

    Cutler, Cutler, Cutler…. FUCK!

  • tobijohn

    Nice…

  • Paul Stuart

how did he not have somewhere better to go with that?

  • Shady

I don’t want to hear it Dave.

    • SC Dave

Dont have tbe game now.. go bears!

  • Good job of not getting a FG, Cutty.
Trest would have went for it on 4rth and 1

    • johnnywad

Jay really shit the bed there

      • GPLDAN

He needs to win us games not lose them

  • DSupreme

FUCKING Cutty!!!! Awful throw, he should have run to the sidelines and tried to get that yard

  • tobijohn

Jay’s the reason I won’t be cutting back on the Xanax until January..

  • GPLDAN

    Ok look Shae crashed down

  • Shady

Chicken Dinner just took out Peanut.

  • GPLDAN

Ok look Shae knocked Peanut out

  • GPLDAN

Do the Bears have heart? Now we find out

    • Shady

Maybe, but we know they don’t have any feet left because they’ve shot ’em off.

  • SC Dave

    Ok d…

  • SC Dave

    Game back on… wtg defense

  • Shady

We need one of those 4 min TD drives.

  • DaMurph

    Hmmm.

  • SC Dave

A ton of time… our vaunted offnse needs to come through. Looking to Matt

    • johnnywad

We’re down a BMarsh and Alshon. Not good. Matty and Marty need a big drive

      • GPLDAN

        bm in there

        • johnnywad

Just saw that. He must be about 50%

  • SC Dave

    Four min… forte… a rhyme. Coincide?

  • SC Dave

    Time to show up, offense

  • SC Dave

FUCK. !!! Damn satellite out again!

  • NewBearInTown

Brandon Marshall! 50% still pretty good.

  • Paul Stuart

    BfuckingM

  • RenoBear

Spurlock needs to fuckin catch the ball

  • GPLDAN

    Fucking clock bleed

  • Shady

This reminds me of the Minny game last year. The offense pretty much fucked up until the final drive where Cutler found Bennett for a back shoulder TD.

  • RenoBear

Damn Corey graham lookin like a pro bowler and gettin away with shit

    • GPLDAN

      He mugged Holmes

      • RenoBear

I concur, apparently the refs think he’s an all pro and let him get away with shit

        • NewBearInTown

Hey man, he has a Superbowl ring.

  • How was that NOT PI?!

  • NewBearInTown

Should have run on 3rd and 1. Even if we don’t get the yard, we run the clock to 1 second before the timeout.

  • Shady

How the fuck is that not a penalty? Manhandled the receiver, didn’t get his head around. Fucking bullsheite.

  • Paul Stuart

    jesus. back here again.

  • Big Mike

Questions answered by questions. Optimism for defense? Or pessimism for Cutler being a meathead ?

    • johnnywad

That second pic was brutal. Not sure about the first one. Might have been on Marty

  • GPLDAN

    Mckelvin had pic 3

  • Shady

    0-1

  • SC Dave

Too bad Holmes was not looking over the other shoulder! . A perfectly thrown ball

  • Shady

    Jesus.

  • NewBearInTown

Now is the perfect time for a Peanut Punch to Spiller. But maybe I’m asking too much.

  • SC Dave

Bears still suck… go away cheesy

  • RenoBear

    What a fuckin joke

  • RenoBear

Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

  • GPLDAN

    conte pancaked

    • Shady

By the ball carrier, for about 5 yards.

    • SC Dave

Always some asshole blaming it on conte

      • johnnywad

If you had the feed, you’d know why he said that

        • SC Dave

Offense had the ball first amd failed

          .. badly, i might add

          • johnnywad

Yep. Never should have happened with Forte owning them

          • johnnywad

            I didn’t blame Conte.

      • MB30SD

Always some asshole sticking up for that pos. Give it the fuck up already dave. He’s fucking horrible and got gifted that int. Saw both on tape. You’re ridiculous dude

        • SC Dave

Fuck ypu mb. Our only turnover. Wha tdid ypur ctush bostic do?

          • MB30SD

No fuck you dave. you’re a total dbag. You constantly pull for the underdog who SUCKS. Conte was gifted the INT (RPRT), bostic wasn’t fabulous for the lowlights I saw, but he didn’t gift them a TD and another huge run to set up a score. Jesus christ.

Did you fucking see his whiffs? ESPN had an entire fucking 10 second lowlight of just conte…My god that dude is dogshit, and sadly so are you for loving him so much.

    • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

When I saw it? AaaaHhhh! Last game Months ago.

      • MB30SD

look up… just more of the same.

  • Run D still sucks

    0-2, here we come

    • johnnywad

      Wasn’t bad until OT

  • Shady

    What a let down.

  • Paul Stuart

ouch. gonna go shower and do some stuff.

  • GPLDAN

Da Bears: getting schmoked and pancaked

    • I don’t know what’s worse
      Getting beat by Manuel
      Or you starting Orton

      • GPLDAN

        Me starting Neckbeard

    • SC Dave

This was about the offense failing

      • johnnywad

        Agreed. That’s why they lost.

      • AlbertInTucson

Yes but the almost complete lack of pressure from the pass rush is MOST disturbing.

  • Shady

The Doug and OB show should be interesting.

  • Cheddar

    Conte ha ha ha ha

  • NewBearInTown

Really not happy with play calling from Trestman. You have to trust your run game – he threw the ball on 2nd or 3rd and short way too much.
Injuries sting, but we should have the guns to finish against Buffalo. This offense needs to be a lot better.
The D? We need more playmakers against the run. The linebackers are probably where they need to be looking.

  • Shady

Well it’s only week one. That’s all I got.

  • Viva

    That was brutal.

  • BerwynBomber

The second Cutler pick killed us. We were in FG range there. D played reasonably well, but hey, it’s Buffalo. I’ll be honest I thought penalties kept us in the game. The Bills, I believe, had nine for over a hundred yards. All in all a real ugly start. Other than Carolina, Bills could be our easiest opponent of the year.

  • Trac

Who has whoa? Who has whoa? Whoa I say, whoa!

  • SC Dave

    Be ready for 3-13, boys

    • SC Dave

Not like it’s really going tp happen. ..

  • Shady
  • Trac

Minnysooota shellacked the rams. Ruh roh!

    • BerwynBomber

Yep … at St. Louis no less. Vikes could prove to be a nice bet to win the division if you took the early odds in Vegas. Zimmer could be a huge upgrade over Leslie.

  • Trac

The Bears failed to control the tempo of the game. This is on Tresty all the way baby!

    • johnnywad

Its hard to explain a 23-20 loss with 420 yards of offense.

      • SC Dave

        Easy…. turnovers

        • johnnywad

I guess so. Even at that, it was a net differential of two. So did they play well and just need to clean it up a bit? I sure hope so.

    • SC Dave

Its on the offense as a whoe. Mat had a good game tbough

  • AlbertInTucson

Bring me the head of Jay Cutler.

Jay, what part of “Do not throw late back across the middle” do you not grasp at this point in your career?

While you’re at it, bring me the hands of Michael Spurlock.

Miichael, you HAVE to catch that pass.

Somewhere, David Haugh is doing cartwheels.

    • SC Dave

Yup… it amazes me that people that jump cds ass for not figuromg it out in two years give Cutler a pass for not learning in eight

  • GPLDAN

Buffone and OB are hysterical. And not in the funny way. They want Paea dead.

    • Shady

      Tamayta cans.

  • johnnywad

Bills gained 193 yards on the ground. One big play up the middle that Conte whiffed on. The rest were due to loss of containment. Don’t get it. Jared Allen doesn’t understand contain? Hell, I even saw Peanut get pulled inside. What the fuck is going on here?

    • BerwynBomber

Defense didn’t look fabulous. But this one is on the O. 20 pts total and three turnovers won’t get it done for a team that is constructed to outscore opponents.

      • SC Dave

        Sooo this

    • AlbertInTucson

Vi-Queen fans predicted that was what we’d get from Allen.

      • GPLDAN

Allen had the Williams brothers next to him most of his career, where he was on turf and could then pitch inside because the Williams brothers WOULD get 3 yards upfield.

Now he has Flatbread out there who has no game. And he’s on grass, so most of his speed moves are slowed. He’s a slower, weaker, white David Bass now.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Cutler outsmarting cutler, it’s been years watching him doing the sames mistakes. Fuck!!

    • SC Dave

      Lost cause it seems

      • MB30SD

But conte deserves undying support jesus dave

        • SC Dave

          Troll

  • MB30SD

Hey Dave, you should totally keep sticking up for this POS: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-miss-plays/0ap3000000390761/Wk-1-Can-t-Miss-Play-Jackson-sets-up-Bills

    What a fucking joke.

    • MB30SD

jesus fucking christ… did you stay to watch the slo mo. My fucking god. embarassing. jesus.

      • Paul Stuart

        there definitely is that.

        • Paul Stuart

he can’t judge a guys speed. his legs are quick enough for a more acute angle, but he sets off thinking he’s quicker than that and gets burned by going straight at them. Don’t see it changing. He is still a good poacher at times, and can hit, but ultimately I think you’re right about him MB

          • MB30SD

I’ve said this a million times paul, he’s a very good athlete. He’s fast, aggressive, and he’s not bad against the pass in spurts…

But he doesn’t have the innate capability to do the geometry to tackle for whatever reason. He costs us games more than he saves them. I’ll take a less flashy/aggressive McCray/vereen any day. Those kids might not make the highlight tape… but it will be on both ends. Nothing great, but also nothing turrible. Yes please.

          • Paul Stuart

yeah, he should at least pick a spot, like a line in the sand he knows he can get to first or the last line of defense hustle…but yeah geometry.
I liked what I noticed of McCray today. Mundy seemed to be hustling too. But the offense had better pick that windscreen bug out of their eyes next week…injuries allowing…

      • SC Dave

        Troll

      • bearsfantillend

it’s getting old. Conte was not responsible for this loss. even if he took the perfect angle and made the perfect tackle. the Bills would have still been inside the 30 yard line, meaning fairly easy FG. The LBs played like shit today, not sure how many times i saw LBs crashing to the wrong gaps.

    • BerwynBomber

Conte looked bad there, but PLEASE, that was a hole for a truck and even if Conte gets him down immediately they are at our 20 and in FG range. I put that run more on our D-line and LBs. Plus, if Conte gives me a nice pick every week I’m happy. Anyway, I still put this one on our O, even if our D is still a concern.

      • MB30SD

I’m not talking about one goddamn play. The guy was gifted the INT and he is NOT GOOD.

He will 100% give you a fucking INT now and then when the other QB feels generous, but he’s going to give you 3-5 critical whiffs, get beatdown, and fucking not-tackles a game.

He’s a fucking net-negative dude. Period. Try Vereen, who might not get you the INT, but he also won’t miss 5 critical long yardage tackles.

        • Big Mike

Your off base. Conte played fine. cutler sucked ass

          • MB30SD

I watched the low lights. I’ve played the fucking position before… not sure what I’m missing with you two.

I don’t give a fuck about most of the game, I’m talking about the plays where it counts… where HE is the difference make.

            Result: Net. Negative.

          • Doc Hamstring

You are insane. Conte took a horrible angle on Buffalo’s first TD drive, leading to a huge gain.

Conte was awful. Cutler threw 2 picks and 2 TDs. That’s not awful.

          • MB30SD

fucking thank you. Jesus, I feel like I’m going fucking insane with dave and mike around this fucking place. Jesus.

            McCray and/or vereen NOW please!

          • GPLDAN

Also, and I will see this on the All 22 feed tomorrow – even the pick that Conte made he was wildly out of position. Had EJ Manuel reset his feet and looked downfield, he had a guy wide open with nobody around him for 15 yards.

That Conte pick was a Manuel screw up, nothing more. Conte left his man. If I can screenshot from the All22 app, I will show this with pics.

          • Doc Hamstring

Give Conte a bit of credit. He read the play, read Manuel’s eyes, and completely committed to the ball being put where it was. If Manuel wasn’t so bad, yeah, Conte would’ve been burned. But Conte made the right play.

            Once.

          • MB30SD

this. Again, it’s not his good plays, it’s his many bad during a game. They kill us.

          • Doc Hamstring

And one of the picks was likely not even Cutler’s fault. It looked like Bennett didn’t run the right option on the route. Cutler threw it to a spot.

Make no mistake, that second pick was BRUTAL. But Cutler was not the guy who blew the game in OT.

            Conte was.

Mundy sucked ass, too. On the first Buffalo TD, he let himself get completely swallowed by the TE. Mundy’s nickname should be Holmes, he let himself get swallowed so badly..

          • GPLDAN

Mundy did not suck. He leads in tackles, he was thumping too. He had every right to run out of gas, he was hitting 3 different backs because the linebackers were not.

          • Doc Hamstring

Mundy got completely swallowed on the first Buffalo TD. He wasn’t out of gas. He just didn’t try.

          • GPLDAN

Come on, that TE was huge and set the block. Cam Chancellor wasn’t going to make that play.

          • MB30SD

my buddy said KC got fucking crushed by lacey on his concussion play. I didn’t believe him.

          • SC Dave

            Fuck you. Idiot.

          • Scharfinator

Maybe Bennett should have taken practice more seriously in the off season. SMFH

          • BerwynBomber

Throwing as many picks as TDs (especially against a team like Buff) is not good. This ain’t the 1970s anymore. Plus, Cutler could have easily been picked in OT. I’m willing to let it go — it’s one game — but no reason to whitewash his performance because of Conte’s.

          • Doc Hamstring

Did I say Culter was good? No. I said he was NOT AWFUL.

Conte’s performance WAS AWFUL. One decent play does not–to use your verbiage–“whitewash” his two horrible angles that cost scores.

          • johnnywad

One of them may or may not have been on Marty. The second was fucking brutal

          • Big Mike

See what you want. conte did not lose this game, Cutler did

          • MB30SD

no, not like last year all in one play. but he always contributes 2-4 critical (bad) plays to help lose the game. He’s horrible and shouldn’t be in there. ever again. McCray is the better option. Period.

        • SC Dave

We got one take away, by Conte. End of story. Give it up.

The offense lost this game. Obviously to anyone other than a Conte-hating Cutler cocksucker.

    • SC Dave

      No longer feeding this troll

      • MB30SD

        nice gift into triple coverage

  • MB30SD
    • Shady

You’ve run your tab up to $10 now.

      • MB30SD

I feel like absolute hell, and I’m fucking PISSED. The fucking Bills… honestly. For mother fuck’s sake. God damn it, where are we going to field a complete team for fuckitbitchasscunt!!

        Fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Shady

Oh, sorry. just pissed and firing shit off.

Fuck man. SF is destrooooying the cowgirls. Going to be ugly next week if shit don’t change in a hurry.

            How was ST?

          • Shady

Uneventful. Too many touchbacks to tell.

  • MB30SD

my god, SF is going to eat our fucking lunch… even without three of their best players

    • Shady

Could be a rough start to the 2014 campaign.

    • GPLDAN

6 of the next 8 games are on the road. It could get ugly.

      • MB30SD

yeah, I’m not panicking yet, but fuuuuck man.

SF looking strong… but it is the cowboys so not sure how to take it.

God I hate not only not being dominant, but opening by getting beaten by the fucking shitshow bills. SMFH.

        • Big Mike

          Cowboys just suck

          • MB30SD

they were running them up and down the field at first. I’m worried.

      • AlbertInTucson

        You mean UGLIER.

    • tobijohn

If next Sunday night’s game even smells faintly like a redux of today, there’s no way I’m staying up to watch when I have to get up at 6am the next morning…

  • Big Mike

    cutker sucked ass

    • For your consideration….

He completed about 70% of 49 attempts and had a bad pick. He threw for 350yds with 2 TD’s , about 100yds in fucking drops and unfortunate drive killing fumble by Marshall and miscommunication with Unicorn who didn’t break off a route. If that is sucking ass I can’t help you Mike. i know you are disappointed but for gods fucking sake man, it’s not a video game.

      • MB30SD

        Lost cause. just move on.

      • Big Mike

Yep. But I’m done apologizing for hom making stupid throws. See completion to DT

        • For your consideration….

it happens sometimes when you pass 50 times Mike. holy fuck. Don’t bring up Allen looking like McClellin, Paea, looking like hurt Paea, 1 fucking sack on Joe Montan…..I mean EJ Manuel, about 100yds in dropped fucking passes, 193yds in rushing or some shit from Buffalo, no Alshon, a 60%Brandon,etc.

Seriously, i’ll drop it but what the fuck is wrong with some of you guys? It’s like you’ve never watched the game of football before.

          • For your consideration….

also please take extra care not to mention the last minute drive down the field for the game tying field goal by our offense which was cool, only to give up yet another 80yd drive in overtime to lose.

          • SC Dave

To say nothing, which I note you do, of having the ball first in OT and failing.

          • For your consideration….

yeah dave, let’s line him up against the wall and kill that piece of shit. I mean he didn’t make EVERY SINGLE play, what a fucking loser he is.

            #worst fan base in football.

          • SC Dave

It’s not my problem that reality does not mesh with your Cutler fantasies. Or maybe it’s a problem for ALL of us.

          • AlbertInTucson

Apparently, somebody thinks making their responses profane gives them more weight.

          • Big Mike

BAh. I’m done apologizing for Cutler. He is what he is. An above average QB. Can’t throw a ball to a DT. Defense was as good or better than we had hoped. Offense was supposed to win ball games. They did not

          • For your consideration….

It’s not apologizing god damnit it fucking football. No one is fucking apologizing for him.

          • Big Mike

I said “I” was done apologizing for him. More appropriately I should have said, “defending”, or “promoting”. He will never stop making the throws we all know he should just eat. You can’t throw a ball across the field, across your body into traffic. It’s just part of his make up. and I shouldn’t operate a keyboard, while drinking and watching the Bears.

      • Big Mike

Those are great stats and they explain my frustration. How can he be that good and throw the ball across the field, off his back foot, to a defensive tackle. A top QB tosses the ball out of bounds. He is, what he is. He is always going to make that throw.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

It seems will be a loooong season.

  • tobijohn

I believe that was the first time Buffalo ever won a game in Chicago..

  • Doc Hamstring
    • MB30SD

this is because of Culter. They’re signing a panic/emergency Free Safety because of Cutler DH. Get it fucking right.

      • Doc Hamstring

Whoops, you’re right. The safety from Minny’s practice squad was a high school QB. Obviously he can out-play Cutler.

        Conte’s job is safe.

        • MB30SD

          Phew!

          • Doc Hamstring

Yep, the child-molester lookalike can continue to take lousy angles on running plays, because he got an INT.

Just like Cutler gets a pass for throwing an INT, because he made that 44-yard toss to Alshon. Right?

          • MB30SD

            yep

          • SC Dave

            So it seems.

  • GPLDAN

Ed OB and Dougie gave Gym Shorts the game ball. Said he out coached Tucker.

    • Shady

Jordan Palmer must have given up the Trestman Rosetta Stone before getting cut by the Bills.

      • GPLDAN

Good point. Blame it on Palmer!

  • MB30SD

    shady…. $15?

    http://www.si.com/nfl/2014/09/07/report-kansas-city-lb-derrick-johnson-tore-his-achilles-sunday

Also, the 9ners are going to fucking eat our lunch if both teams play like they did/are today. Holy shit.

    • Shady

      Technically it’ll be dinner.

      • MB30SD

Sure. I’ll buy you a beer

  • johnnywad

Holmes fell down on the almost pic in OT. Somebody check the All 22 and see if it was the right throw

  • Shady

If only we had Josh McCown… Oh, wait.

    • MB30SD

Yeah, hey trac… that’s 2lbs of billies and various and sundry sweets boet. Can’t wait.

      17 – 0 against a cam – less panthers. Ouch

      • Trac

        Beat it kid! Hahaha

        • MB30SD

          hee hee

  • SC Dave

Schubert trios, and the world no longer sucks… thanks Franz.

  • BerwynBomber

Rivera sticks it to Lovie. Wouldn’t be shocked if Glennon starts for TB before the season is over. Didn’t understand his automatic demotion. Played well as a rook.

  • Cormonster

The Bears linebackers absolutely sucked today. 8 other defenders had as many or more tackles than any linebacker. Conte had one less tackle than all the linebackers combined. At least he had a pick, so he at least outplayed every linebacker on the team.

The linebackers combined for 8 tackles. Eight! They should have had double that on the running plays alone. Pathetic.

    • SC Dave

Yeah, fuck that Conte for making all those tackles.

  • For your consideration….

Josh McCown (36) and Jay Cutler (34) now hold 1st and 2nd place for most completions in a game in Bears history.
Bears D hasn’t held an opponent under 20 pts for 2 years now

    • For your consideration….

i still think things will work out. It’s about getting to the playoffs, not going 16-0.

      • SC Dave

Hope you’re right. A rocky start to be sure.

Honestly, the defense was better, and offense worse, than I expected.

    • SC Dave

Three turnovers by the offense did not help.

      • For your consideration….

They certainly didn’t help but it is infuriating when a guy like Manuel, who can’t even throw a motherfucking spiral, can convert a game changing set of third downs because our pass defense and pass rush are that non existent. He should be fined for how bad some of those throws were. This Buffalo team should not have scored 10 pts much less 23.
it’s a team game and the team lost

        • SC Dave

I agree with the last sentence.

          • For your consideration….

i know you had trouble with your feed didn’t you? You didn’t see those 3 Manuel passes that i am talking about did you? Dave, they stayed in the air so fucking long and fluttered so badly it was as it my wife had thrown the passes. Each. Completed. For. Key. First. Downs because our guys just were not in position.

          • SC Dave

No, I did not. But it remains true that the last sentence is the reality, and although it’s sometimes hard for me, I try to agree with reality.

        • BerwynBomber

Well, Manuel had a better game than Cutler. But agree that the guy generally sucks.

    • Shady
  • Cormonster

In the terrible category today: whoever called the plays. Was Mike Martz an honorary captain and play caller today? It never bodes well when you call 51 pass plays to only 18 run plays, especially when Forte is one of the top 3-5 running backs in the league. An unbalanced offensive attack like that makes for great fantasy football numbers, but it usually ends up in a loss no matter the team.

    • For your consideration….

Dude, Forte had 90yds receiving. 10 of those 49 were to him and that’s fine with me. Cutler just about hit 70% completion rate today which we all know is top of the league.

      • For your consideration….

This game was about 3 very real and awesome drives cut short by turnovers, not the play calling. It was also about a non existent pass rush and the inability to keep a team from scoring less than 20pts on the road

        • Cormonster

13 of those points were off the turnovers. Forte had a great game as I expected, but I still think you have to have a more balanced attack and run the ball more than 18 times. That’s not even really trying to run the ball.

          • For your consideration….

i hear you man, but I count a 5yd dump off to Forte as part of the run game. It looks like 18 runs but getting it into Forte’s hands is the key no matter if it’s a run play or a 5yd pass for a 10yd gain.

          • SC Dave

While runs are generally safer (no incompletions), Matt IS the man and feeding him however we can is a good plan.

          • johnnywad

Forte is a freaking marvel. Hard to believe he’s still only considered the 6th to 8th best back in the league by the “experts”.

          • CanadaBear

You have to remember that Cutler was changing plays at the line. Typically the plays seem to change to pass plays.

          • Cormonster

I thought the same thing, but I don’t know. That’s why I left it open ended. Between Trestman, Kromer, and Cutler, more running plays and a more balanced attack should have been called.

        • Shady

Completely agree. You can see the talent and potential in this offense, but they need to stop shooting themselves in the foot. Tresticles will resolve this issue.

  • Cormonster

Who has Devin Hester on their fantasy team? He had 5 catches for 99 yards today, including a key catch to set up the game tying FG.

    • SC Dave

Way to go, Devin! Maybe Ryan/Atlanta has figured out something that the Bears QBs/coaches couldn’t? Guess we’ll see over the course of the season…

  • johnnywad

I’m not going to panic yet. Let’s see what happens next week. Too many guys nicked up and in and out of the game to expect real flow out of the offense. Who knows what impact having DLP and Ola forced into action meant? We’ll know more in a few weeks. The D got screwed with a few turnovers and short fields and still only gave up 20 in regulation. Fingers crossed for a better effort next week.

    • SC Dave

With you on all this. Just wishing we’d went more to Matt, since he was kicking ass. 169 yards from scrimmage, I think. Still pulling for 2500 from him this season.

      • Cormonster

At this pace, he’ll have over 2,700 yards. Ha Ha.

        • SC Dave

I’m thinking the average might drop a little next Sunday..

  • GPLDAN

    MB says:

I’ve said this a million times paul, he’s a very good athlete. He’s fast, aggressive, and he’s not bad against the pass in spurts…

But he doesn’t have the innate capability to do the geometry to tackle for whatever reason. He costs us games more than he saves them. I’ll take a less flashy/aggressive McCray/vereen any day.

I’ve concluded it is actually not that. It’s not his angles, that’s the result of the problem not the problem itself.

The problem is Chris Conte concusses very easily and has very serious clavicle and shoulder issues. So he takes angles to wrap up in a way that prevents his head from taking contact. It’s a severe thing for him, it must cause sharp pain. A healthy safety would have taken on Jackson’s legs. Conte does not want to leave his feet in that way. When he goes to crack Wilson, he takes a bizarre side angle to miss him but glance his elbow. Williams he can’t lay out, so Williams holds onto the ball.

You have a guy with the instincts of Doug Plank but the upper body and head of somebody who shouldn’t play football. THe angles are a result of that. It’s the strangest thing I’ve seen in years: the one safety on your team who really knows how to play the game is the one guy too fragile to do so.

    • SC Dave

Interesting theory. But in the end, if he cannot get it done,he’s not helping. Unfortunately, we dont seem to have a better option right now.

    • MB30SD

It’s an interesting theory indeed, but I’ve watched many plays where he just takes a wrong angle AND he can’t tackle.

I’ve seen him lay wood also, so I don’t think it’s what you’re suggesting.

I honestly just think some guys are born with the ability to, on the fly, do the math then take the right angles to the ball… and some guys are also born tacklers.

When you really and honestly have trouble with both, you’re fucked at the nfl level. .. and that’s what we have in conte. After all the close watching I’m almost 100% sure.

We had a dude like him on my job tean in hs. Great athlete om and off the field, he just sucked at fb?! Made no sense to me then either

      • Cormonster

Ha Ha whiffed on a big tackle and missed a pick against Seattle, but he looked really good otherwise. I think he is going to be a really good player. He seemed to be in the right place at the right time on almost every play, and he made some nice plays in the game.

        • MB30SD

think about how he’ll look in his 3rd year if he
          doesn’t get hurt. SMFH.

HAVE to take a FS in the top 10 maing. Oh well, spilled milk.

  • GPLDAN

“It’s just a desperation play where I have to try and punch the ball out or something. But, at that point, it’s a field goal no matter what.” – Chris Conte

That – right there – is a quitter’s quote. He got steamrolled, and he’s making excuses there for not being able to take on Fred Jackson. Yes Briggs blitzed and left a hole a mile wide for Jackson, yes Conte should not constantly be the last thing between the ball and the goal – but at least cop to the fact you had a shot to move him out of bounds at the 20 and couldn’t do it.

    • SC Dave

      Or say nothing.

    • NewBearInTown

Actually he’s exactly right. They’re going to make that field goal at the 20 or 2. He’s not Peanut, he has to choose whether to go for the strip or the tackle – and like many safeties coming off a cut he can’t always tackle the downhill running back in space – but he made the right choice trying to get a takeaway. If he would have pushed him out of bounds, people would be riding him for not trying to go after the ball.

      • MB30SD

        Smh

  • GPLDAN

And this is going to get me a strafing run from the Me109, but Cutler’s QB rating is 86.9 for that game.

You don’t pay a guy $100M multi year deal for that.

Having said that, he put incredible touch throws into Holmes, Forte that got dropped and Spurlock flat out let him down and should be cut. But that pick late across the middle is not something that Andrew Luck would do.

    • For your consideration….

He just threw a brutal pick to Talib that would have had guys here planning cuttys execution. Right after you posted actually

      • GPLDAN

He’s getting rolled up on by a awesome Denver team with a highly revamped D – and yet he’ll still have a higher QB rating than Cutler at the end of this thing.

        • For your consideration….

Lol, yup, just, “my bad,my bad,my bad guys, let’s get’em guys”

        • BerwynBomber

Don’t be so sure. Lots of big name QBs putting in average to below average performances this week. For all the concern of over-officiating the DBs in pass coverage (and I was one of the concerned) during the pre-season, I wonder if the zebras let them play (hopefully) this first week.

    • AlbertInTucson

Drops aside, it is VERY hard to remain in Cutler’s corner when makes the AWFUL decision to throw back into the traffic on tat 2nd pick.

Hard to watch. Impossible to justify.

      • For your consideration….

one decision, one fucking decision , give me a break Al. Get the fuck out of the corner with all due respect then.

        • AlbertInTucson

“One decision”? That reply is just ignorant. Take off the blinders.

          • For your consideration….

It’s about that one play because you are certainly not faulting the Bears for going after a wide open Bennett in the seam against a guy 70lbs lighter and a half foot shorter right? Please confirm this.

          • AlbertInTucson

            QB Play 101:

You throw back late across the middle and BAD things happen.

My disappointment in Cutler’s decision making is certainly not the result of one play.

      • bearsfantillend

It was a bad play call to begin with, followed by a bad decision by cutler. Very disappointing since that was the play called after a timeout.

  • BerwynBomber

One bit of good news is that SF is starting six new guys on D and Dallas ran for 130 on them. If we commit to the run, we might be able to score with them. Moreover, their D might not be all that until they get Smith and Bowman back. Yeah, they created turnovers vs. the Cowboys but that could be as much about Jerry’s World and a gimpy Romo than anything else.

    • AlbertInTucson

I see the SF- Dallas game today as a preview of the Bears trip to ‘Frisco.

      • BerwynBomber

Maybe, but Cutler should be able to outplay Romo. Romo looks like a dude who should not be on the field after his second back surgery. He had no zip on his throws. Moreover, Dallas is a gigantic steaming pile of crap. A worst defense than even us last year, and an O-line that is a sieve in regard to pass-protection.

        • AlbertInTucson

The Dallas radio crew said they thought Romo looked like he wasn’t ready to play.

        • AlbertInTucson

Not arguing your point but I don’t see our rebuilt defensive line laying a glove on Kaerpernick and he’ll dance around ’til someone breaks opem for a big play or he’ll run around Jared Allen for big yards.

  • Scharfinator

Aaahhhhh I hate Cutler, WAAaahhhhh I hate Conte. WAHHHHh the season is over.

I’m going to take my ball and go home. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhh!!!

Or we can realize this is only 1/16th of the season. Don’t leave because the weather starts getting bad.

  • DaCubsDaBears

Jared Allen doesnt show up, Briggs is not impressive. Love Tillman, but he looks a step slow,
McClellin is a zero yet again.
Not gonna join the chorus of Conte haters, the whole D including coaches are the problem, not one guy.

  • GPLDAN

Rodney Harrison just called the Bears “soft”.

“They paid a lot of money for big free agents, and they may get it together, but they played soft.”

Dungy said the Bears D was the day’s biggest surprise. But Dungy is a twat, so who fucking cares what he thinks.

    • Viva

I had a long football talk with a 30 year friend before the Packers game the other night. He’s a big Packers fan (used to be a Wisconsin sports reporter on Packers – McMahon told him to fuck off and never talk to him again at a charity event). We both agreed the Bears and Packers are soft. Both of us agreed we are both 7-9 to 11-5 teams going nowhere in the playoffs. Too soft. More dirt of the Packers at a later date.

  • Viva

Will Sutton made a hell of a tackle in the 4th qtr. The rook owned his guard, and made the play. Paea’s starting days are numbered.

This team shit the bed today.

  • Shady

my bad, my bad, mybad, mybad guys. mybad.

  • CanadaBear

What a pisser. I’m glad I stay off here during most games. A little too heated for sure. Bad news for both camps; Conte does indeed suck and Cutler will throw the worst INT’s at the oddest times. We looked like we were still playing in preseason. It seemed like the same energy level and speed (or lack thereof). The D didn’t lose the game but they were just so-so. Esp when you consider it was Buffalo. FUCK!

    • Viva

      Wholeheartedly agree.

    • BerwynBomber

Even beyond Cutler and Conte, what might be most troubling is the LB play. Let’s not forget, Briggs was playing like an All-Pro before he went down against Washington last year. If we never see that form all year, it could be a long year for that corps.

      • CanadaBear

Gotta agree. Didn’t see near enough of any of the LB’s today. Did CD make any plays today (other than spearing a teammate)? I think I saw Briggs make a play or two. Bostic made one that I remember and Williams, not much.

        • Cormonster

Williams didn’t even make the stat sheet. Bostic and Briggs were involved in 3 tackles each, and McClellin 2.

    • Cormonster

I talked to a good friend tonight who is a Lions fan. He said the same thing about the Bears speed and effort on defense today. He’s not an asshole fan or anything, but that was his first comment about the game – they looked slow.

  • Viva

Silver lining – we lost to an AFC team.

    • Shady

      But it was the Bills.

      At home.

      • Viva

Fuck you. It’s a silver lining.

  • The Ghost of Super Bowl XX

Fucking Paea if can’t hold his gap or press QB, hope E. Fergurson will start as soon as 5th. Game

  • For your consideration….

Guys, seriously, you’ll burn the qb over one pick? I haven’t heard that thief Allen’s fucking name mentioned or Houston?? The bills shouldn’t have scored 10 fucking points. No pressure, one sack, by Young.

    • Shady

      Oh…. He’s been mentioned…

    • CanadaBear

I did see Houston in on a couple of plays. Allen, not so much.

    • BerwynBomber

He had two picks and he should have had three. Yes, Holmes slipped on the OT play but that was a horrible pass regardless. Plenty of blame to go around, but when you’re the franchise QB you gotta take the crit for a performance like this. Comes with the position/responsibility/money.

      • For your consideration….

Wait just a minute, he should have had a third pick…. Like he should have had an additional 90yds passing and possibly another TD?

        We can’t play that game.

  • NewBearInTown

    The Good:
    – Sutton and Ego sighting in this game indicate good things from the rookie linemen. Our run stopping issues will improve considerably if these guys develop.
    – Matt Forte is awesome.
    – Marshall, other than the fumble, and Jeffery both looked as good as advertised. And neither is seriously hurt.
    – Punting is not longer a concern on specials.

    The Bad:
    – A lot of injuries. Hopefully nothing serious – though having DLP stay in for Garza might be an improvement.
    – Right tackle could be an issue all season if someone can’t step up there. We have a lot of good pass rushers on our schedule.
    – I miss the days when our defense was well coached and believed creating turnovers wasn’t just a bonus.
    – I also miss the days when we had a real threat returning kickoffs and punts.

    The Ugly:
    – 4 linebackers played today. They shared 8 total tackles. Lance Briggs usually gets that by himself.

    • CanadaBear

It seems the D has no edge. Young brought the energy, Conte brought it but he always plays out of control. Houston and Ratliff seemed to have a little life to them. Everyone else seemed to be playing not to make mistakes. Not good.

    • BerwynBomber

Yeah, for all the all-world-ness of Marsh and Alshon, and even Bennett’s quality of play, I worry what would happen to this offense if Forte went down. Thought the STs played reasonably well after looking so atrocious in the pre-season.

    • you can’t have non-Forte RBs only getting 1 touch. Give Carey the ball.

Especially on those failed 2nd/3rd and 1s in the 4th quarter where Cutler kept chucking it. That’s Carey’s specialty.

What’s the report from sick bay? I thought I saw Jeffrey come back in for one play after he was hurt and then, that was it. Slausen? Marshall?

    • Shady

Bennett on INTs: Tight end Martellus Bennett took responsibility for the first of Jay Cutler’s two interceptions but claims to not know what happened on the second INT, which led to Buffalo taking a 20-17 lead in the fourth quarter. Both passes were intended for Bennett, with the second being picked off by defensive tackleKyle Williams.

“I don’t know what happened on that s—,” Bennett said. “The fat guy got a pick.”

Jeffery appears to be fine: Alshon Jeffery missed the fourth quarter and overtime due to a hamstring injury, but Bears coach Marc Trestman said, “Alshon was prepared to go in there at specific times. I’ll just leave it at that.” Jeffery was seen in the locker room after the game, and he didn’t appear to be walking with a limp or any type of discomfort. Trestman said he didn’t know the extent of Jeffery’s injury.

Garza and Slauson hobbled: Center Roberto Garza conducted postgame interviews with a walking boot lying on the floor in front of his locker while left guard Matt Slauson walked with a limp on the way out of the locker room. Both players missed the entire second half and said they will receive MRI exams Monday morning.

Slausen/Garza – MRI tomorrow both ankle injuries

Marshall – No word on injuries, so I am assuming his cybernetic nanoprobes are already started healing any issues he has.

Waffle, my suggestion to you is to stay away from sports media outlets this week. It begins with Wilbon…

    http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/11485312/jay-culter-chicago-bears-offense-better-team-a-shot

“CHICAGO — It’s about the worst scenario imaginable one game into a new and hopeful season, the Chicago Bears losing at home to the long-irrelevant Buffalo Bills, the run defense continuing to be historically bad, Alshon Jeffery suffering a potentially ominous hamstring injury, and worst of all, Jay Cutler throwing a hideous fourth-quarter interception, then directing his public anger at everybody but himself. And yes, the scariest part of it once again is Cutler, apparently unchanged by his $100 million contract or status. Cutler and coach Marc Trestman, immediately after the game, had convinced themselves and tried to convince those of us listening to them postgame that “lots of good things” happened for the Bears against the Bills. Now, you can call this staying on message or spinning … whatever you want.”

    “It’s garbage.”

    • For your consideration….

      Lol, the world is ending.

      • Trac

Cutty should get another pass. He tried really really really hard yesterday and this is only his second year in a new system. Life I say, life!

    • people who say the run D was just as bad as last year are only looking at the stat sheet. Completely different.

Was the run D good today? No. Gave up 190 yards and over 6 ypc.

But last year they were consistently giving up 8, 10, 12 yards. This year was the 2 breadkowns that went for 85 yards. Otherwise really solid run D.

Last year the DL and LBs were both huge problems against the run. This year it’s just the LBs. They hit the wrong holes on both big runs. DL held up.

So that’s progress. Still not where it needs to be, but progress.

    • Trac

In my opinion, losing to Buffalo is worse that drafting Chicken Dinner. Turrible, just turrible.

Looks like Cordarelle Patterson could be Minny’s new Percy Harvin. Sucks if Clowney’s lost for the year. Was hoping to see that dude play.
