Bears Take Chance on Former Pro Bowl Safety Adrian Wilson [VIDEO]

| June 24th, 2014

Three thoughts on the signing:

  1. It is another sign that this current Bears regime will not settle for inadequacies on the roster. The previous administration seemed to enjoy going to great lengths to not only defend weak positions but make claims that a weakened position was somehow part of the overall strategy.
  2. Chicago could not enter the summer with Ryan Mundy as the only viable strong safety on the roster. Why? Because Ryan Mundy isn’t that good.
  3. Keep expectations low on Wilson. If the former top safety is on the roster come September, it would be a surprise.

  • May the 2nd time around be better than the first, Wilson.

  • Luis Suarez just shook hands with Mario Balotelli in the tunnel – the

    Now THAT’s a tweet.

    • My only answer is that soccer somehow threatens the entrenched sports writer in a way the other sports don’t. Its “the other”. J tweet.

Jeff getting all Freudian up in the twitterverse.

The previous administration seemed to enjoy going to great lengths to not only defend weak positions but make claims that a weakened position was somehow part of the overall strategy.

That’s what weak front offices do. they propagate their weakness on down. So thankful that’s over.

    • Reminds me of an amateur writer I knew. Her work was FULL of cliches…”His smile was like sunshine”, etc.

I put it nicely, “Uh. That’s been said a million times. Maybe think of something more original, and less cliche?” She got all huffy, “I use cliches on PURPOSE as a literary device.”

How could you respond to that? At least her defense was original.

      • MB30SD

        no, you suck?

        (just spitballin here)

    • AlbertInTucson

Really. What the hell did you think was going to happen to the damn chum bag if you left it IN the water, Doofus? It IS why you got to SEE the shark in the first place. You gonna need some help changing that diaper you just soiled?

  • And if Adrian Wilson resembles anything like that highlight vid, I’m gonna be feeling like this.

  • Big Mike

Ryan Mundy is better than he is getting credit for. It’s his time. Just needs a shot.

    • MB30SD

Jeff, who lives in ny, doesn’t seem to think so… at all.

      • Big Mike

My jet’s buddies wish they had him back. I think he is going to be a “B”, “B+” guy for the bears.

        • MB30SD

I would be very happy with that mike. Let’s hope so.

  • John ‘GP’ Nada

The guy to go get was Will Hill.

Fuck Emery and his character bullshit – Hill would be back there with Peanut and Jennings, and have BM off the field to keep his head straight.

Instead we got a guy with no tread left on the tires. This guy is Archuleta Pt. 2, beat up legs, an achilles injury that will make him slow as fuck – and we hope to pull a Chris Harris with it.

    I hate shit like this.

    • If Wilson becomes Arch, he’ll be cut just like Izzy. That’s the beauty of vet min. No harm, no foul (not my $). and Emery and gang aren’t sentimental about it, unlike Lovie.

I can almost guarantee Will Hill will still be available for a while. I remember saying no one will scoop him up, and some thought he would get signed immediately.

I’m pretty sure a team would have to carry Hill on the 53 man roster for 6 games, which explains why he’s still on the streets.

I don’t expect any team to sign him until the 90 man roster gets cut down to 53. That’s when teams will gauge what’s out there.

Unless there’s a star S who goes down. That might make a team desperate too.

    • Emery doesn’t have character bullshit. He drafted Evan Rodriguez and Marquess Wilson through character concerns. Even Long. He traded for Brandon Marshall with character concerns. He acquired Martellus Bennett with character concerns (granted those were a bit behind him in Dallas, but still).

What’s the point in grabbing a player who’s already suspended for the first 6 games? It’s not like other people are banging down his door. The Giants let his top backup walk (Mundy) this offseason and were still willing to cut Hill.

  • John ‘GP’ Nada

UK couldn’t score on Costa Rica with the scrubs and guys looking to make a name….

Fuck Roy Hodgson. That team sucked.

    • UK is always over-rated, much like every single product they make with the exception of Docs, Rolls Royce and Tea.

      • SC Dave

        Always. Overrated.

      • Irish Sweetness

The point was made (Harry Redknapp?) that years ago, kids would spend hours a day banging a ball about because there was nothing else to do and only a couple of TV channels to watch. Now kids have games consoles, smartphones yada yada and nobody is honing their ball skills out on the streets. So for years they’ve been importing foreign players to the Premiership which doesn’t exactly help their national team. Poorer countries like Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica etc. – that’s all the kids do is play football.

  • Man, I’m glad the Bears didn’t end up on Hard Knocks, but a part of me really would love to have seen it happen. So many storylines.

Cutty, the QB everybody loves to hate. His hot wife.
Bmarsh with his backstory and redemption theme.
    Martyrex being martyrex.
Conte looking over his bum shoulder at all these safeties taking his job. How does one pick himself up?
Allen and his spear-killing rodeo wrassling ways.
Long and his bloodlines with special appearances by pops and bro (Actually, Long, Marty and Vereen all have bros in the NFL).
And all the other new faces like Houston, Young, Wilson and all the rooks.

Oh, and don’t forget Trestman and his daughters #swoon.

    • Irish Sweetness

They could invent a side-story where Ditka keeps turning up at practice and acting like he works there.

  • Few bits From Roto world…

ESPN Chicago confirms Jimmy Clausen is a threat to Jordan Palmer’s backup job with the Bears.

This is a position battle to monitor after Marc Trestman
worked wonders with Josh McCown in 2013, resurrecting McCown’s career
with a 13:1 TD-to-INT ratio. Palmer practiced poorly during OTAs and
minicamp, while Clausen has history with Trestman. Assuming he makes
the 53, rookie David Fales is ticketed for third-string duties
regardless of the No. 2 quarterback winner.

    – According to the Chicago Sun Times, Bears second-year WR
Marquess Wilson “had a strong offseason” and is “noticeably becoming a
    better receiver.”

21-year-old Wilson has been taken under the wing of Alshon
Jeffery and Brandon Marshall, and was one of the stars of Chicago’s
spring practices. The Sun Times noted Wilson beating first-round CB
Kyle Fuller “badly” in man coverage during minicamp. Wilson should be a
big upgrade on Earl Bennett for the Bears. His re-draft value is tied
    to Jeffery and Marshall’s availability.

-Bears signed SS Adrian Wilson and TE Jeron Mastrud.

A likely future member of the Arizona Cardinals’ Ring of
Honor, 34-year-old Wilson will give his fading career one last shot with
the safety-needy Bears, who used Ryan Mundy and fourth-round pick Brock
Vereen as starters during minicamp. Wilson is a strict in-the-box
safety, and missed all of 2013 with a torn Achilles’ tendon. Mastrud,
formerly of the Raiders, is a blocking tight end.

    • MB30SD

a loooot of those highlights did NOT look like strictly in the box to me. just sayin.

      • Jokey

Loved the hits but half of them would be flagged today.

        • MB30SD

          such a party pooper

    • Irish Sweetness

So when Cutty goes down … Jimmy Clausen is the face of the franchise.

      Again. Fail to prepare ……

      • MB30SD

Before my head explodes…. who did YOU want us to get again?

  • I’m going to refer to all African WC teams as the Onobums.

They SHOULD be good, but they aren’t.

    • MB30SD

      exactly. or the C. Washingtons

  • Shady

So, not only does Luis “The Cannibal” Suarez take a vicious bite out of Chiellini’s shoulder, he then proceeds to collapse on the pitch holding his teeth… HOLDING HIS TEEETH! Are you kidding me soccer? smh

  • MB30SD

Just got around to watching the AW highlight vid.

Jesus, he is (was?) a baaaaaaad man.

I sincerely hope he’s got some tread left cause he’s a fucking enforcer. Man, can’t believe I hadn’t really heard more about him before. With his style and career accomplishments? Guess that’s what playing for the cards will do for you.

  • MB30SD
    • John ‘GP’ Nada

That’s fine – there are a few civil judgments against him – that can go to pay those.

It’s also bullshit in that I can assure you that if you put in 20 years at PSU as anything BUT a Paterno coach and then were in the slammer, you wouldn’t see that pension.

  • Cormonster

Never really watched much World Cup soccer before. A couple games were pretty exciting, and a couple others were boring as hell. Anyways, is it normal for Central and South America to have 7 and potentially 8 teams make the sweet 16?

    • MB30SD

yep. especially lately, and it’s being held in the biggest (figuratively and literally) country in SA. The latin and euro countries are where soccer lives maings. If you’ve been reading the blog lately I’ve posted up (as has $… and jeff) what’s wrong with all the african nations. So much talent, so undisciplined and sloppy.

Historically it was all euro and a couple SA countries (BRA and ARG mostly with a few URU sprinkled in). Interesting to see how things seem to be changing, or maybe it’s just a blip. we’ll see.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FIFA_World_Cup_finals

      • Cormonster

So the African countries are kind of like the Lions and Chargers of recent history.

        • MB30SD

yes. lions are a perfect example. Tons of talent everywhere, but too much of a shitshow to actually go long against teams with more diciplin and strategic OC/DCs.

          • Irish Sweetness

Iran nearly had the argies dead to rights. Even Algeria looked good.

        • Lions. Purrfect.

        Uuuhhgggggg

  • Jeff, did you get some action on the Suarez bite bet?

“With odds of 175/1, it was a pretty amazing outcome, despite Suarez’s reliability for biting his rivals.”

    http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/24/football-fan-wins-500-after-betting-3-on-luis-suarez-biting-player-at-world-cup-4774558/

  • Irish Sweetness

    Another safety? Okay> Good.

Greatest over-reaction of the WC so far? Danny Mills on Suarez.

” I am sorry but they have got to throw him in jail and lock him up for ever.”

    Classic.

Suarez pretending to have hurt his teeth after biting the dude.

    Classic-er.

    • Evander Holyfield even chimed in.

From now until he dies, if ever there’s a biting scandal, Holyfield will be relevant again.

      • CanadaBear

He’s definitely the go to guy when it comes to biting incidents.

  • CanadaBear

Jeff apparently doesn’t follow cycling. Every year during the Tour de France there are always some national sportswriters that go stupid about cycling. Anybody can ride a bike, blah, blah, blah. Used to piss me off about 20-30 years ago. Now, not so much. Who cares what those dumbasses think?

  • Cormonster

Politics: Anyone else have a problem with the fact that the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world by a long shot. Cuba comes in a distant second. Rwanda a far distant 3rd. These stats don’t include all the people on probation and parole.
    http://www.prisonpolicy.org/global/

    • bearsfantillend

maybe we should implement public caning instead.

    • For your consideration….

lol, i don’t know about our incarceration rate but I did notice that some of the lowest incarceration rates are in the most cray cray fucking places of all time.

      India?
      Condo?
      Nigeria?
      Pakistan?
      Liberia????? Fucking Liberia????
      Syria?
      Sierra Leone??
      Af fucking ghanistan?

need i go on? The incarceration rate is bad here because we have a bunch of fuckups that live here. We also have repercussions for crimes whereas other countries on this list encourage rape, terrorism, genocide, etc.

      • CanadaBear

I remember reading Tom Thompson’s Serpentine back in the ’70’s (BTW great book). Among other things he wrote about the prisons in India is you have to buy your meals. No money, no food. YIKES!

        • Irish Sweetness

Same in BKK – the Big Tiger … the Bangkok Hilton. They’ll give you the cell to share with 60 AIDS victims gratis … but you buy your own food. You have to work or take the kindness of visiting strangers from your country.

    • A lot of it was Reagan’s “War on Drugs”.
Other reasons, in no particular order.
      1. Substandard education
      2. Cultural legacy of violence (I was just watching the Brits talk about Suarez bite. And I quote: “Finally, something to peak the interest of the U.S. sport’s fan. They may not like soccer, but they love violence.”)
      3. Broken homes
      4. Lack of jobs
      5. How we treat the mentally ill.

      Etc etc…

      • For your consideration….

        c’mon bro, that’s weak.

        • Which one, the “War on Drugs”, or the other reason? lol

If you got more valid reasons, I would like to hear them.

        • For your consideration….

Liberia means “broken Homes” in african dialect

          • For your consideration….

it can also mean “you’re about to get your tits chopped off while 20guys rape you for being in the wrong tribe.”

          • Well, we can go Roman and start crucifying criminals.
But it didn’t seem to work out for them.

          • For your consideration….

maybe we can put them to work in hard labor positions….. that would scare the shit out of guys that were about to do a drive by

          • For your consideration….

i keed i keed, that would be cruel and unusual punishment. To think, an american doing manual labor.

          • SC Dave

Isn’t that why immigra… oh, never mind.

      • Cormonster

Bingo! It all started with the War on Drugs. (BTW, doing drugs is a victimless crime. A total bastardization of the criminal justice system). Nixon started it, Reagan really ramped it up, and every President and politician since has been “tough on crime”.
Drugs themselves don’t create more crime, but making them illegal sure does. Just look at the history of alcohol prohibition. If you want to lower the crime and murder rates in this country, just legalize all drugs. ALL drugs.

        • bearsfantillend

Drugs themselves don’t create more crime… tell that to the family of my good friend/employee that got shot in the face during a robbery because the meth addict needed money to buy his drugs. or to the 2 people whose cars he stole while on a 6 state crime spree, or to the Police Officer in Arkansas who was shot in the hand and shoulder by the stupid fuck when he was breaking into a store. or the other Arkansas Officer that had to pull the trigger and kill him.

Don’t give me that shit that drugs don’t create more crime.

          • CanadaBear

I think that has more to do with the guy being completely psycho and less to do with meth. Lots of idiots do meth. Not many of them are psycho killers.

          • bearsfantillend

lots of idiots that do meth do crazy ILLEGAL shit. do a little research, go ask a police officer how much crime can they associate directly to meth use, look up the side effects of meth. it is really easy to see the association between meth use and crime. and FUCK OFF!

          • Cormonster

Lay off Canada, man. He’s probably the nicest guy on the blog. Here’s a fun little story that describes about one third of police officers on the street.

            http://www.theonion.com/articles/insecure-frustrated-bully-with-something-to-prove,33427/

          • CanadaBear

Thanks for having my back Cor. Had to laugh at the Onion article. I used to work with a lot of cops being the money man at the festival. Overall it was a great experience. Don’t know how they do their job. Dealing with the lowest element of society on a daily basis has to take a toll. Of course, there’s always that cop that fits the profile in the article.

          • Irish Sweetness

Alcohol. Right there. Widest clusterfuck of a drug in existence. Violence. Impaired driving. Rapes. Loss of productivity to society through sick-days/hangovers, health costs, it’s almost endless the number of ways alcohol is abused .. yet it’s still advertised on TV as a cool and normal thing to your children.

Patrons should drink responsibly. Yeah, try that after your fifth tequila shooter.

          • Trac

Your last sentence puts you rational at a slight disadvantage. I recommend avoiding that because otherwise your points are valid. There’s no easy solution but I know this, if a man falls in love with Christ, he will find ways to overcome addictions in a healthy positive manner and the Holy Spirit is faithful to cover and protect him. This is my 2 cents.

          • MB30SD

How about Buddha, or Allah for that matter. .. or maybe life?

            Mhhhmmmmmmm?

          • Trac

All government is given authority by God I believe. Problems occur because man follows that up with horrible concepts and laws to justify what they do. None of what you referenced has contributed more to societies benefit than Judeo Christian religions in my opinion. There are hard religions because the world is filled with hard people.

          • CanadaBear

A little sensitive perhaps? I’ve always thought you were a dick. You just confirmed it.

          • bearsfantillend

yes i am a little sensitive, maybe you would be too if your friend was murdered while working at your business and you had to clean up the mess the next day. Then someone tries to belittle the event without knowing all the facts, without knowing how drugs like meth can really mess people up and make them do seriously fucked up shit. if that makes me a dick, so be it.

          • Irish Sweetness

In those cases, legally available meth would likely have led to the employee still being alive … but where does that stop. Life is hard for everybody, and if most had the option of being high off their tits … who’s going to serve me my burger? (which I will gladly pay for on Tuesday).

Pot should definitely be treated differently, and nobody should be taking up a jail cell because they were smoking pot.

          • For your consideration….

so Irish, since legally available drugs would still costs money, and the robberies, killings that would happen since addicts would still do anything to get access to the money to buy the drugs or the drugs themselves if they didn’t have the money, the answer is to provide free drugs like a welfare drug system??
Free drugs for everyone. Like Old Country Buffet, but instead of chicken pot pie we’d have coke, speed and meth and maybe a little heroin for dessert. It would also be free!!! Not too much heroin Johnny, you’ll spoil your appetite for your meth dinner!

        • I often wonder what would happen if we legalized the harder stuff, like heroine, crack, speed, meth, etc. Or at least decriminalize it. We need to find you an island to run ur libertarian experiment.

          • Cormonster

All of those drugs are legal, except they are prescription drugs that are overly abused. Not sure if previous posts vanished, but more people die from and abuse legal prescription drugs every year than all illegal drugs combined. Heroin is an opiate. Millions of Americans are addicted to and abuse opiates every year. From morphine to oxycotin to oxycodone, etc. Speed is just diet pills. Methamphetamines are prescribed to millions of Americans every year. All kinds of people now have ADHD and are prescribed meth under the names Ritalin, Adderall, and others. The kids don’t have a choice. The parents, teachers, and doctors force them to take meth. Many adults get themselves prescribed because they are addicted to meth. Coke and derivatives, not so much. Mainly used as a topical for surgeries and such.
To me, it’s illiberal to be for the War on Drugs. I don’t get why so many people who identify with liberals or progressives support the nanny state. There is a major convergence in this country between lefties and tea party or religious republicans who want to dictate how people live their lives. “We don’t like how you live your life, therefore there should be a law against it and you should be punished.” Even if no one but the person in question is harmed. We are going to punish you and ruin your life for your own good and the good of society.

        • CanadaBear

At some point the US will legalize weed. You know there are a lot of States looking at the tax money Washington and Colorado are bringing in. Not to mention the tourism dollars. Plus the savings from no longer wasting valuable resources chasing down a bunch potheads.

          • Irish Sweetness

They’ve always wanted to legalize weed – too much tax not getting paid. The Rockefellers funded Feminism back in the day so they could tax the other half of society, nothing to do with raising the profile of vaginas.

          • MB30SD

            I like vagina profiles

    • Shady

Prison is good business maings. From a link in your article:

“The hidden engine behind the state’s well-oiled prison machine is cold, hard cash. A majority of Louisiana inmates are housed in for-profit facilities, which must be supplied with a constant influx of human beings or a $182 million industry will go bankrupt.

Several homegrown private prison companies command a slice of the market. But in a uniquely Louisiana twist, most prison entrepreneurs are rural sheriffs, who hold tremendous sway in remote parishes like Madison, Avoyelles, East Carroll and Concordia. A good portion of Louisiana law enforcement is financed with dollars legally skimmed off the top of prison operations.

If the inmate count dips, sheriffs bleed money. Their constituents lose jobs. The prison lobby ensures this does not happen by thwarting nearly every reform that could result in fewer people behind bars.”

      • Cormonster

Boom. I thought I was a liberal in college and voted for Clinton in 1992. Then I immediately realized I was naïve and that he was a major liar. Then I voted for Republican Tommy Thompson for Governor of Wisconsin in 1994 or 1996. Liked a lot of his platform on economic issues.

Then he had his State of the State address, and I was horrified. He started talking about being “tough on crime” and doubling the prison population. He kept his promise. The prison population skyrocketed under his administration. Until enough new prisons could be built, WI was sending very low level offenders to southern states. It was a total disgrace.

Thompson ran for US Senate in 2012, and he lost to a far lefty. Glad he lost.

        • Irish Sweetness

As in Cali, if you’re paying about 18 times the amount of money on prisoners than you are per student … something is very fucked up at a governmental level. That’s designed.

          • slightly different in that you need to pay for food, medical, and housing for prisoners. You have them 24/7, while you only have students about 35-40 hours a week and (theoretically, at least) are only responsible for educating them (not food, not shelter, etc.)

          • Irish Sweetness

Bottom line – you’re spending a large factor more on prisoners than students (in that state). The priorities are clear. As pointed out elsewhere – in some countries the prisoners need to buy their food, the state does not bear the cost. Priorities.

China leads the world in education.
The USA leads the world in prisons.

Which would you rather be good at?

      • Trac

There’s any easy way to fix this shady. Boycott crime, problem solved. BOOM!

      • SC Dave

Another element, in my mind, is the disenfranchisement of blacks. Remember, convicted felons lose the right to vote for life, so that would be another reason for the disproportionate numbers of blacks in jail for peddling dope.

I believe (could be wrong) that Rand Paul has been advocating a path back to voting eligibility for felons. Too lazy to actually look it up, I would surmise that it covers non-violent criminals who keep their act clean over some time period following release. Personally, I think it an interesting idea.

        • Irish Sweetness

… then they can vote for whichever side of the military industrial complex they choose. The Red fascists or the Blue fascists.

    • Irish Sweetness

Big business. Whilst researching some facts on education I discovered that in California, the average expenditure on each student in the state was around $7200 …. the average expenditure on each prison inmate was around $128,000.

Prisoners are big business, students are parasites.

How about we hold public executions of these animals. Or maybe we go the iranian way, start chopping off body parts. What’s the crime rate in iran btw?

Fuck, as my baby girl goes to school in august for the first time, I’m considering talking to the ex about homeschooling. smmfh.

    • Trac

It’s a huge commitment but I highly recommend it but only if one or both parents are up to the sacrifice. ‘Twas the best thing we did. This is a growing trend among parents due to the horrible public school systems across the country.

It’s been very demanding and there are all types of support groups available for homeschoolers. We go to Church a couple of times a week and play park district sports so the kids were able to have a great social life as well. If I’m not mistaken, some states allow homeschoolers to play sports at public schools in addition to there homeschooling.

      • MB30SD

It’s a kneejerk reaction trac. school was good for me… I did private till 9th grade, then when I showed promise on the football field, I asked my parents to let me go play with the big boys at LJ High. San Diego has some of the best schools in the nation, and my kids live in the best district (poway) in the country for good schools.

We’ll see… sending your babies off to these totally unsecured schools is just a very scary prospect these day.

        • Trac

I feel ya. We really weren’t concerned until the kids hit 6th or 7th grade and we experienced as parents what kids have to deal with today in society. Very escarey. I guess it also depends on each individual family and each families local school district. Homeschooling is a calling and a way of life, I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone.

          • MB30SD

I think if we were together still it might be move of a viable option. Not now.

I’m really focused on safety, not education. I personally feel that school is more of a social experience anyway. I take real education of my chilluns on my own shoulders. Teaching them the important stuff. I plan on taking them out of school to travel the world a lot when they get old enough.

My parents did that for me and it was probably THE biggest influence on the person I’ve become.

    • johnnywad

I know precisely how you feel MB. Gotta do it though. I felt the same way about my daughter….now she owns the school. She’ll be fine. Just give her the tools to stand up for herself (I’m thinking you already have) and the rest just falls into place.

      • MB30SD

        thanks maing.

I’m more thinking random crazy with a gun. I’m not worried about bullies. She’s gonna be the valedictorian AND the homecoming queen if she continues the way she started.

        • CanadaBear

Don’t have kids so not going to offer any advice but from what I’ve see from home-schooled kids is they need the interaction with other kids. Scary times indeed.

Supreme Court ruled this company illiegal

    https://www.aereo.com/

They were setting up antennas in every major city and then selling slingbox subscriptions to it. It was a great way to watch NFL games live for a fraction of the cost of a NFL streaming package.

    • MB30SD

they also ruled that the pigs need a warrant to look at your moooobile!

  • MB30SD

canada, there was a tour preview on yesterday. Got me pumped.

Did a run down of the top contenders. Awesome summer for sports. Sheesh.

    • CanadaBear

Should be a good one. Contador is in great shape, Froome is looking a little iffy and who knows if Nibali’s form comes around. The fight for the green jersey should be terrific. Kittel was on a different level than everyone earlier in the year. Cav has lost a little on the top end. Sagan is always there if the stage is really tough and then throw in all the weird stuff that no one can see coming. Can’t wait!

      • MB30SD

Me neither. So pumped about all the sports this summer… going to be way into le tour this year.

  • John ‘GP’ Nada

Here you go, Al. This one is for you.

    • MB30SD

ohhhhh, that looks good. I like brad maings. Used to think he was a bit of a poof (NTTAWWT), then fight club (or snatch, or the oceans franchise, etc…).

  • John ‘GP’ Nada

MB – I got one for you. Firefighters are going to start carrying sniper rifles for guys like this.

    • MB30SD

      drones are cool.

As for the yacht… meh. silly rich people (present company excluded of course!)

  • MB30SD

Oh fuck, this is going to be bad.

ARG starting to hit their stride at the right point?

    • MB30SD

      HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

This match is starting like apeshit!

      • John ‘GP’ Nada

Nigeria is too wild, careless with the ball.

        • MB30SD

yes. like all african teams. Once things settle down, ARG will start overpowering. They’ve been all up in NGA’s shit besides that one goal

          • John ‘GP’ Nada

ARG is like a NFL Club that only favors the deep fly route.

          • MB30SD

actually they’re like the 2013 Bears. Super strong O lead by a gunslinger, and a D that looks like wilted, sloppy swiss cheese

  • John ‘GP’ Nada

If USA beats Germany tomorrow, is it:

greater than, equal to, or less than the 1980 Miracle on Ice?

    • MB30SD

less than. If they beat brazil/ned/FRANCE in the final, it will be mas mas mas macho

  • Trac

It sure seems like there are less yellow and red cards being given out than I usually see in World Cup play?

Happy Trails, Actor, Eli Wallach. 98.

For a nice Jewish man, he made one HELL of an Evil Mexican Bandit Leader in THE MAGNIFICENT 7.

Calvera (Wallach) Upon first Meeting “The Magnificent 7”:
“Generosity. That was my FIRST mistake. I leave these people a little extra and they hire these men to make trouble. Just goes to show you. Sooner or later you must PAY for every good deed.”

Calvera, as he is sending the 7 away, tails between their legs:
“I once rob a bank in Texas. Your country come after me with a whole army. WHOLE ARMY! One leetle bank. Is clear the meaning, eh? In Texas, only TEXANS can rob banks. Ha-haaa! Adios!”

World Cup ended, went right on to Wimbledon (C Woz ain’t bad looking btw… I’d help her forget that little dbag rory)

Then Le Tour starts on the 5th. Sheesh…. there’s also a bunch of rugby being played right now if you have access.

    • I also think Badminton and Curling are having their championships!

      (Yeah, that was sarcasm).

After WC, it’s back to the usual program. mmmmBeaarsss

      • johnnywad

        What World Cup?

  • I am going to laugh my ass off if Le Bleu lose today.

That being said, in honor of Le Bleu. Butch’s odd ball movie of the day, which is actually a quite poignant flick.

    http://youtu.be/NAZaRub0P_U

    • Doood. That movie trailer makes that movie look like crap. Trust me. It’s not that bad.

      • johnnywad

A ringing endorsement. Its precisely what I look for in my movies.
I’m about to go into one of my bents. I’m not going to watch anything made since the fifties and walk around saying “There hasn’t been a damn thing worth a shit made since the fifties.” I do it all the time with music but I use the eighties.

        • haha yeah, the trailor made it out to be, well, have no idea still.
The actual movie is about deep sea diving competition, which always fascinates me. It’s not overly dramatic, for a french film, and can be actually quite silly, but naturally, it’s french, and it ends that way.

Recommend it when in an artsy mood.

          • MB30SD

            or when HIIIIIIIIIGH!

      • Irish Sweetness

        Great film. Reno rocks.

    • MB30SD

      suck it!

  • And in homage to Bosnia Herz…”The Unbearable Ligntness of Being.” I also have a sneaking suspicion that Seinfeld’s “Rochelle Rochelle” was based on that movie.

    • tobijohn

One of those films I got hoodwinked by some chick into seeing and ended up really liking a lot…

      • Haha were you wearing your coyote coat whilst telling her to pass over the chalice brimming with Colt 45?

Yeah, it’s a pretty good movie, and the only Czech flick I could name off the top of my head.

        • tobijohn

I think it might have predated the coat but it definitely was the beginning of my serious crush on Lena Olin…

  • Random Butch interaction of the day. Today is apparently my Sis’ anniversary with the hubby. The Hubby stops in and I say, “Congrats. 9 years of putting up with my sister.”
Without batting an eye, he responds, “Shh. 9 years of her putting up with me.”

And see kids. That is true love. I know I razz a lot of you married suckers, but sometimes I come across a married couple that doesn’t make it look like a life-sentence.

Then this girl passes by me

Saw this last night from Jon Stewart regarding the IRS fiasco. Funny:

    • SC Dave

Stewart is such a fucking shill for the libtards… what a fucking waste of time that caricature is. He’s far worse than even Rush Limbaugh.

      • Shady

Libtards? Really Dave? I visit this blog I avoid that particular vernacular. I thought parts were funny, especially around the 3 and 8 mins marks, but I doubt you made it that far. I guess I’d rather get my depressing news with a laugh than hear it from a Lou Dobbs or Bill O’Reilly. Dennis Miller can be funny fox personality, but his high brow humor gets old fast.

        • MB30SD

Cut dave a little slack my maings

  • SC Dave

My daughter and I will be singing Mozart’s Requiem twice this weekend with Summer Chorus. Awesome stuff.

The joy of making great music takes a bit of the sting away from my mother-in-law’s diagnosis. Liver and pancreatic cancer. I will dedicate my efforts, for what it’s worth, to her.

Life has its ironies to be sure.

    • For your consideration….

Dave, may you make the greatest music this weekend. My heart is heavy as I think about this shitty diagnosis. Hang in there.

      • SC Dave

Thanks much. Will do, so far as I am able.

    • I loooove Mozart’s Requiem. Man, you guys must be good. Altos, mezzo-sopranos, baritone etc?

Hope the family pull through on the health front. My fam has had a rash of health issues too recently. It seems like when it hits, it hits in waves.

      • SC Dave

Well, we’re good enough to make a good try at it :-). Baritone for me, alto for Sarah,

What is that old thing, compadre? When it rains, it pours.

    • johnnywad

Sorry Dave. Nice you have an outlet you can share with your daughter.

    • Cormonster

Sorry to hear the news Dave. Terrible diagnosis. Have a good show.

    • MB30SD

very sorry to hear the news dave. My thoughts are with you and your family my man. Positive vibes being sent your way.

    • Trac

It will be worth a lot Dave. I hope you stay strong throughout this ordeal and you can be strong for everyone involved. Very very difficulty situation.

    • CanadaBear

Hang in there Dave. Love the fact you get to sing with your daughter. Hate the news about your mother-in-law. Hopefully they can minimize the pain and she has some quality of life. Best wishes my friend.

    • Jokey

Dave, I’m so sorry this happened to your Mom. If you start a fundraiser site for her incidental expenses, please post it here. And good on you and your daughter on the Requiem – I’ve loved that piece ever since watching Amadeus 20 times.

  • Ahhhhh I want Football. REAL Football. I need my fix!
I click on ProFootball Talk to get my daily smack cuz they report even the most innocuous shit, like Onobum getting cut, but it’s no good. I need the good stuff.

Right now their top headline reads :” Titans coordinator talks up Jake Locker”.

And I almost read cuz I’m itching like a crack head.

    #BRINGBACKFOOTBALL!

    • SC Dave

I hear you, but try to embrace our countrymen in Brazil. It’s a tough road, and they need whatever we can provide. I blocked off “personal time” at work tomorrow. And I’m betting everyone can guess when that is.

      • Oh, yeah, I’m definitely rooting for U-S-A! Might even hit a bar for it.

        • MB30SD

My buddy and I are hitting a bar for breakfast manana to cheer on the RW&B baby!

Very long interviews on da site, the administration actually IS somewhat transparent to this point. When the bullets start flyin’ we’ll see if they stick to that. Hope they do even when it’s bad like maybe here in week two when I’ll be in the stands.
